Three things to say after seeing at least ten pro gruvia posts in the anti gruvia tag after weeks of not being on tumblr.
1-and most important. Why did you, specific graylu shipper, go and piss off the gruvian shippers? I mean seriously, I'm also annoyed by Gruvia and I think it's a terrible ship, but I don't have to convince anyone, least of all people who I already know won't change their mind - and honestly, who the fuck cares what they ship, that's enough for me to have a little corner on the internet where I can vent about things I don't like when I'm particularly annoyed. Also, it bothers me terribly to be compared to people like you so please stop.
2-to pros who post in the wrong tag on purpose. Although I understand your frustration and I know it's not your fault, it's not even our fault. Most of antis stay in their corner - at least here on tumblr, I don't use Twitter so I don't know – so just block that user.
3-in any case, if you publish in the anti tag, know that you are more likely to receive responses from the anti that you might not want to read (I myself responded to a post, not out of malice but to explain my point of view, before realizing that you started posting in the wrong tag not because you all suddenly went crazy but because of an aggressive anti).

The reason why I personally am annoyed by Gruvia but not by Gajevy or Jerza is that – unlike what happens with Jellal and Gajeel – no one recognizes Juvia's behavior as wrong. Let me explain, no one would ever say that Jellal and Gajeel were good person in the first season, that they weren't doing anything bad etc, everyone thinks that they were bad because they clearly did terrible things. And then, rightly, they had their redemption arc. For Juvia this doesn't happen, not only but the worst thing (for me) is that everyone defines her as cute and loving and doesn't even question her behavior, considering it adorable or funny. Now, I don't want to convince you of anything, I actually don't want to convince any Gruvia shippers of anything, which is why I'm no longer entering your tag. Indeed, I understand the reasons why you might like the ship, it objectively has many canon moments - like it or not - so it is obvious that many people will follow the story. The only reason I'm replying to you is because I found this post in the anti tag.
PS also, psychologically speaking, I think it's normal for people to be triggered by things like jealousy/possession since these situations are "closer" to reality or what someone might have experienced, compared to what Gajeel and Jellal did. Obviously this is not logical, but this is how the human mind works.
Make it make sense!
So according to some anti gruvians, Juvia getting Gray teaches young girls it's okay to stalk who you love and you will end up with them. How is that possible? It's fiction first of all. They have magic, dragons, celestial spirts, gods, dark guilds and many others things that we don't have in real life. Second of all, how is Gruvia's ship so related to real life but not the rest.
So Jerza ship doesn't teach you that as long as the boy was brainwashed it's okay he tried to kill you. Gajevy doesn't teach you that it's okay to crucify the girl and her friends to a tree as long as later you fall in love with said girl. NaLu doesn't teach young people it's okay for the guy to crowd your personal space and to grope because it just means he cares about you. Like if it was real life no one would deal with each other and Jellal, Gajeel, and Natsu would be in jail for sure. I love these ships too but my point is that IT'S FICTION AND IT'S OKAY TO ENJOY THINGS IN FICTION THAT MIGHT NOT BE OKAY IN REAL LIFE.
Acting like Juvia is the worst character to ever be created is wild to me. I really wish anti gruvians would watch other forms of media to realize that there are truly horrible characters who get the girl or the guy at the end. Using words such as gaslighting and manipulation to describe gruvia is crazy. She is written by an author at the end of the day. She's not even written as a toxic character. IT'S OKAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE HER CHARACTER OR THE SHIP BUT TO ASSOCIATE HER CHARACTER WITH R@PE AND SA IS CRAZY. I wish anti gruvians would go away and stop trying to convince us that we shouldn't like Juvia and Gruvia.

Every time someone compares Gruvia to other ships I am a bit perplexed. On the one hand I understand the line of 'All FT ships are toxic, so either you like them all or you don't like any of them'. On the other hand I think the main problem with Gruvia is NOT that it is a toxic ship, but that it's not recognized that it is toxic.
This is the main difference between Gajevy/Jerza and Gruvia. The actions of Gajeel and Jellal are clearly wrong, they are recognized in the manga itself as wrong, as well as by all readers. No one thinks they were cute, justifiable, and funny when they were evil, in fact Mashima gave them a redemption arc.
This is also why I personally don't find Juvia stalking Gray at the beginning of the manga, before joining Fairy Tail, so terrible. If after joining Fairy Tail Juvia learned about people's limitations and had a redemption arc, Juvia would be exactly the same as Gajeel/Jellal. But that wasn't the case, because Juvia's behavior is never recognized as wrong, in fact, many pros often blame Gray for an insensitive asshole when he is not, and this is the main reason why many people hate her.

A problem I see in many Gruvia shippers' post is when they defend Juvia and her behavior by saying that Juvia has had a sad and lonely past, that she has never known love, that she is afraid of abandonment so it's normal that when Gray abandons her after Tartaros she falls into depression. There is nothing false in all of this, Juvia has indeed had a sad past and it's evident that she has experienced trauma. But this is an explanation of her behavior, not an excuse. There is a big difference between the two, and with this type of posts you are not defending her in any way.

I see what you mean but I'm referring more to reader reaction than Erza/Lucy/Gray's different reactions to harassment in the manga. I agree that Natsu's behavior is not comparable to Juvia's, but still, he enters in Lucy's house and crawls into her bed without her permission. And again, no one says anything about this either, even though Natsu is not a cute girl. True, Lucy hunts him, but FT fans in general take it as a joke. They laugh, think "what an idiot" and move on. Same goes for Ichiya, Erza kicks him, but the fans still take it as a joke. They just laugh, and he definitely isn't a cute girl. They don't think that Ichiya is a terrible man who needs to be locked up in prison, they think that he is a funny man (exactly as Juvia).
Now that I think better about it maybe you're referring to the fact that when Gray reacts, instead of having a laugh, the fans say that he is an asshole (while they don't do it with Lucy or Erza)? In this case I can see the double standard.
What I mean is that in general all harassing behavior in fairy tail is considered pranks in the same way, regardless of whether it is done by a man or a woman.
It's practically canon that Juvia raped Gray, it perfectly aligns with her character!
TW: r*pe
juva is a r*pist
It really devastates me to think about, but, unfortunately for Gray, you're absolutely right, my friend. juvia really did try to r*pe him.
It is one of the most despicable things juvia has ever done, and yet it is written off as a joke, as is almost everything that juvia does. This one is on a whole other level of evil, though, that is completely inexcusable no matter how you look at it. I hope the Pros would at the very least agree with me on this, but I feel some are in denial about it.
For those who don't remember what we're talking about, it was during the short Avatar arc after the disbanding of Fairy Tail. juvia, who got her own useless behind sick by moping about when Gray disappeared, proudly stated to Lucy and Wendy that she had tried on multiple occasions to sleep with Gray. It's not really specified whether she meant literal sleeping or sleeping with him as in actual sex, but from Lucy's and Wendy's flustered reactions of trying to get her to stop elaborating, I think it's pretty clear she meant sex. (And really, juvia has no shame. she's literally talking about this in front of a small child, a minor, Wendy. she really doesn't care about anyone but herself).
[And even if she just meant sleeping, that is still such an invasion of privacy and personal space. Your bed is a vulnerable place, one where you are in your most vulnerable state of unconsciousness, and yet juvia wanted to intrude on that despite Gray's protests. No doubt juvia would touch him without his consent as well; can you really imagine juvia sleeping in the same bed as Gray and not glomping onto him and touching him all over? (We've already seen that juvia is completely fine with touching Gray any time she pleases, whether it's her acting as his chair without his knowledge or her refusing to let go of his hand after their Unison Raid, so this assumption is no leap in logic.) That non-consensual "cuddling" would definitely be sexual harassment at the very least.]
Anyway, juvia told them that she was unable to because Gray kicked her out of his bed multiple times, and that means she tried multiple times to have her way with him without his consent. It just shows how insane she is to think that this behavior is one, acceptable, and two, actually going to win over her beloved's heart. This is one of the best examples of juvia's wickedness as well.
A disgruntled Pro might say, "Well, it's not like she followed through with sleeping with him! she says so herself that she was rejected, so she's not r*pey and she does care about consent!"
To that, I say this: Is continually trying to sleep with someone who said no already really showing that you care about consent, and that the only reason why you haven't slept with them yet is because that victim is strong enough to physically refuse you?
No.
You do not care about consent if you do that, and therefore, you are a r*pist. Even if you fail to r*pe someone, if you attempted to, you are just as bad as someone who was able to.
And how many times should Gray have to lay down boundaries and say no? Once. But juvia shows she does not care about him or his feelings. she just wants him to herself even if he doesn't consent.
Gray even tells Makao that he didn't even want to live with juvia in the first place, that she barged in and refused to leave. How does anyone excuse that behavior?? Clearly, no matter what it is, juvia could not care less about Gray's consent or agreement.
Edit: I didn't even notice but a chunk of the post was deleted when I posted this sooo thanks tumblr. I guess I'll paraphrase.
I just said how juvia is always given a free pass just because she's a "cute girl", and so no one actually cares when she acts like a r*pist. Thing is, just switch the situation around, where a man intrudes on a woman's home and refuses to leave and tries several times to sleep with her, and no one would stand for it. But it's okay for Gray to be abused because juvia is a woman?? I don't believe that for one moment. We have got to get rid of this double standard, guys. Abuse is abuse.
Anyway, even though it's a very disheartening and disgusting topic to think about, thank you @arielfan1956 for bringing it up (and thank you for your patience) because it's important to talk about these things. Beyond just a nasty, toxic ship, gr///via helps to harm people and society in real life by normalizing, fetishizing, and praising juvia's absolutely horrendous behavior, and no one needs r*pe and sexual harassment normalized.

I agree with everything but I don't think Juvia has a free pass because she's a cute girl, in the end Natsu behaves similarly with Lucy (obviously to a much lesser extent than Juvia) so I think it's more of a Fairy Tail problem in general and not double standard

Actually you're right, nobody ever talks about Natsu and he doesn't have a great development either (I personally think he's exactly as developed as Lucy), but I don't know how much it depends on the misogyny in the fandom. I think a lot of it also comes down to the fact that the story is constantly revolving around Natsu so people don't pay attention to it. It is only a hypothesis, however, maybe you're right.
This is just to say that:
1-I don't think Lucy is weak, and that she hasn't grown in strength (seriously whoever says that has read/seen FT with closed eyes)
2-I definitely don't even think she's the best developed character
That's all
Tumblr media
It is 2023 and y’all still can’t read 🤡 Lucy has the best character development in fairy tail, if you don’t see that I have to ask wtf you’re reading bc she is literally the only character who undergoes consistent growth and power ups. Girl went from passing out after summoning one spirit for two minutes to summoning THREE spirits at once (unheard of before her in the ft universe!), physically fighting while keeping 2-3 spirits out (this expends a lot of magic power, and it’s canonically noted), channeling the spirits’ power into her own body (knowing what we know about celestial magic, this can’t possibly be anything but strenuous af but she still does it and doesn’t break a sweat), and inventing her own spell. I ask you, what has the rest of the cast done by comparison? Yelled about their dads? Obsessed over love interests? Seriously wake me up when your fav can rewrite the fabric of the universe from memory, bringing the main character back to life and effectively ending the final battle. It is 20 fucking 23, I have been in this fandom for ten years, and to this day the fandom (mostly!!!!! Dudes!!!!! It’s pretty much always men who do this) just outright refuses to acknowledge her growth. Saying “I don’t care for her” is one thing. Straight up making shit up and saying she’s weak/shows no character growth + she’s unlikable as if it’s a concrete fact and not your poorly-formed opinion that doesn’t have any real evidence is another. Put some respect on her damn name or leave, bitch. She’s mashima’s favorite, and it’s obvious. Cry more.

The problem is that Lucy is the main female character so people rightly expect a development that doesn't exits (and to be clear, I'm not denying that she's gotten stronger -anyone who says that hasn't seen Fairy Tail- but getting stronger is not a development, I'm talking about character development and she's pretty static). You will rightly tell me that the other Fairy Tail characters also have no development, and you are right, except those who have had the bad to good arcs (Gajeel, Laxus, Ultear, Jellal), and the exception of Gray, there isn't much more. But since Lucy is the main character this lack is more evident on her. This is sad, because everyone talks about how she's a useless character when she clearly isn't, but it's sadly understandable.

When you know Fairy Tail better than Mashima and you know that:
Mirajane is a lesbian
Minerva is the Master of Sabertooth
Natsu is fucking smart when it comes to fighting and strategy
Sting is gay
Erza and Mirajane had a romantic relationship at some point
Natsu and Lucy are a couple even though neither of them knows it
Juvia is the cruelest mage in the guild and can kill you if you harm her friends
Wendy is the strongest Dragon Slayer
Laxus and Freed have been in a secret relationship for years
After Gildarts, Mirajane is the strongest wizard in the guild (yes, she can beat Erza and Laxus)
Levy is Fairy Tail's new strategist
Erza was the first choice as the next Master but she gave up in favor of Laxus because she wanted to keep going on missions
Gray is NOT a tsundere, he is an idiot like Natsu (please stop changing his character, no one can understand what his personality is anymore)
Lucy still has a certain grudge against Minerva and her father even if she doesn't show it
Lisanna eats stones

I don't think Natsu deserves anything bad from Lucy as he had to watch his father die in front of his eyes and was clearly devastated. I also don't think he has to apologize for anything (like yes he was her friends but he thought there were Gray, Erza and the guild with her, he had no intention of leaving her alone). But yeah, I absolutely think they should have had a confrontation and Lucy had a right to be angry. I really can't say 'Natsu was wrong and selfish' nor 'Lucy was insensitive and she didn't understand that Natsu needed to be alone'. I can only see two hurt and human people who make mistakes, and they should have confronted each other about that.
Ngl I don't agree with the vast majority of the remaining ft fandom's takes on when natsu left the guild. I wanted a throwdown between him and Lucy and I wanted him to have to work to win back trust

When someone says that Lisanna was better off dead, they usually don't mean that they hate Lisanna and would never want to see her. I understand that there is a lot of unfounded hate towards her just because of a ship (yes, too many fanfiction portray Lisanna as bad when you literally don't need to if you want to write some Nalu), but usually people mean say something else.
Lisanna's return was useless. A DEAD person was brought back to life and nothing has changed. She has no ties to anyone. Mira and Elfman didn't undergo any changes or evolutions when it happened, there's no more bond with Natsu, or with the other guildmates. Literally nothing would have changed if she had stayed dead.
So yeah, I understand Nalu shippers can be annoying, but let's be realistic, Lisanna could have had relevance beyond the ship. She doesn't have it, so she's a wasted character.

Since you posted in the anti tags I assume you are open to the discussion so here are my answers.
1-exactly, they are fictional characters. We aren't criticizing/hating real people, but fictional characters, so who cares? As long as the post is in the right tag let people have fun the way they think is best for theirs. Personally I like to criticize characters, because I like to think about how they could be written better, and about the possibilities that have not been addressed in the manga. For those who post hate, they will have their reasons. Maybe a certain character reminds them of personal experiences, maybe they're frustrated because they can't understand what the fandom likes about that character/ship, maybe they're tired of a certain unhealthy trope being hailed by the fandom, whatever is the reason, who cares? I repeat, as long as they keep posting in the correct tag, let them do.
2-Honestly, YOU don't care if a couple is unhealthy in a fiction. Someone might be interested in it for the reasons I mentioned above, and generally those who post hatred on a particular ship do so because they are tired of unhealthy relationships being romanticized, because then they risk being revived in real life. Whether this is true or not, it doesn't matter, haters have their reason (which isn't a bad reason, by the way), so I repeat: since they post hate on fictional characters and not real people in the right tag, let them.
3-I don't know if you are referring to those who criticize the writing of Mashima or those who criticize the authors of Fanfiction, but:
In the first case, every movie/book/artwork has always been criticized, there's nothing unhealthy about doing it, especially since people pay to consume that manga.
In the second case, take it out on the person who criticizes Fanfiction, and don't openly criticize all the antis, as most are quiet people.
4-I can criticize or hate a ship/a character and be respectful, as long as placed in the correct tag (which you are not doing now), and I repeat, if there are people who do cross tags or whatever, take it out on them , instead of criticizing a whole slice of the fandom. It's like I say "all nalu shippers send hateful messages to those who don't like nalu". Not true, as most nalu shippers stay in their tags and have fun with their ship. If I see an asshole sending death threats, regardless of who they are, I give shit to that person, not to the whole fandom.
I sincerely advise you to block the tags that annoy you and have fun in the way that you think is right for you.
p.s. anyway I'm really curious to know what post you are referring to, since most of the anti that I have seen are people who analyze ships and characters in a completely respectful way (I'm not saying that there is no asshole in the anti-fandom, but that there are very few)
Attention all Anti-Nalu, Anti-Gruvia, Anti-Jerza, Anti-Gajevy, people. I want you to know a few things.
1. These are fictional characters and fictional pairings. They are not real, you are posting hateful comments about something that does not exist. So what exactly do you hope to accomplish here?
2. None of these couples would actually work in real life. None of them. Not one couple is completely healthy and rational realistically speaking. But good news, they are not real. They are in a fantasy world, so who cares if logically they’re unhealthy or not?
And 3. This is a person’s life’s work. Their art and their writing, something that they work very hard on. So to insult them like this is very cruel and rude. If you don’t like what they create then don’t read it and keep your mouth shut. Nobody is forcing you to read the manga. This person has the freedom to write whatever they please. So can’t show a little decency and respect? Or at least have the curtesy of keeping your opinions to yourself?
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of characters and shippings that I despise, but I don’t talk about it because A. It’s stupid to obsessively hate something fictional and B. I understand a person’s passion for writing and I would not want to hurt their feelings. I recognize that the writers and artists are real people with real feelings. But no, you only care about fictional characters, the ones who aren’t real.
Seriously, what’s wrong with you people? Don’t you have anything better to do? Get a life!

I really don't care if I'm an anti or not, lol. I just think I'm not an anti because I don't hate Gruvia, I think some of their moments are nice, and I can imagine a beautiful love story between them. Except in my head Juvia is a little different from the canon haha.
However I agree with what you say about Gruvia, which due to the popularity Mashima has ruined it. What I meant is that I like the idea of Gruvia. Gray is afraid of loving someone for his traumas, he needs a person who loves him completely and selflessly, Juvia loves him and is not interested in whether Gray loves her back or not, she just wants to do everything for him, etc. All of this is good. The problem is that from how it was written it seems completely the opposite, because Juvia's love is not in the least selflessly! She just wants Gray, and that… turns her into a completely different person. (Also, even from how Gray was written, he doesn't seem very romantically interested in her and that's another problem).
Anyway, in my opinion the most ruined character by the ship is Juvia, who in the end is just a simp of Gray, without character, without history and without decently developed relationships. (Although now Gray is also being ruined in 100 yq).
I understand your point of view, of course now it's too late for Juvia to redeem herself. But if she had had a good development since GMG, they would have been a good couple. But this is a personal opinion.
Anyway I'm curious about your post on that episode!
I have a question for my fellow Antis
Good evening (or whatever time it may be for you), my fellow Antis!
Does anyone remember the number of the episode in the Grand Magic Games arc where the little she-devil juvia says outright that she wants one of the Fairy Tail members to get hurt so she can replace them and fight alongside poor Gray in the games?
A good tumblr friend of mine @jerzalover came to me and requested that I make a post asking this because unfortunately, I don't remember myself.
It's a very important episode because it reveals some of her basest nature, (even though she started to cheer for them harder to overcompensate and make herself feel better because she felt guilty, because how dare she wish for harm on her fellow guild members in the first place!!) so I hope one of y'all are able to help us out and find which episode it is.
Thank you so much for your time!

Many people would call me anti because I have a lot of problems with how Gruvia was written (by the way, I enjoy reading your posts about it), but at the same time I think Mashima's intentions are really good, and that the ship could have a great potential. So yes, I can appreciate it in certain moments of the manga/if Juvia were to be deepened more as a character, as opposed to yours than - from what I understand reading your posts - you would never be able to see Juvia and Gray together.
So here's why I read your posts.
I have a question for my fellow Antis

I don't think I'm an anti but… 173, the episode where Lyon battles Kagura and Millianna

@gruviasilversblog @fairytailuv4life
Hey! I wasn't expecting an answer under this post as it's tagged anti Gruvia, but I'm glad someone answered me.
I can recognize that Juvia is compassionate, and the fact that she went from being a Fairy Tail enemy to one who would sacrifice herself for all of them is actually curious. Except that personally I can't find Juvia interesting because all of this disappeared after Tenrou. I'm not saying that after that arc she is just obsessed with Gray, but that after Tenrou, all I can see of her is just 'Juvia simp around Gray'. Interactions with other characters are few and small, and the battles against Meredy and Silver involved Gray. Her whole character revolves around Gray and that becomes boring (to me).
However, apart from that, on one thing I totally agree, the anime has definitely exaggerated everything.
While I understand why some people love Gruvia (although I don't completely like it, Gruvia objectively has significant moments, like it or not, and a clear development), I really can't figure out what Juvia stans loves about Juvia. Not because I think she is a bad person as some anti gruvians insist, but because I just don't know how to describe her. She only exists as a function of Gruvia, I can't think of a personality of her outside the ship.
I hope to get an answer from a Juvia stan in my previous post, because I am genuinely curious as to what they are fascinated by.

When did Gray hurt Juvia?
HEADCANON TIME!
Gray hurt Juvia many times, but she always forgave him, because she always knew that the reason he ended up hurting her was his intention to protect her and keep her safe, even from himself.
