Why Taylor Swift Is Actually An ESFP
Tumblr media
Okay, okay, lower the torches and daggers, and hear me out. I am well aware that Taylor Swift has notoriously been typed as an ESFJ personality type. She has 2000+ votes on Personality Database (Pdb) for ESFJ and she's also been typed as an ESFJ on 16personalities.com. I once believed this to be true, but as we've reached the end of the TTPD era, my perspective has changed. The Tortured Poets Department album is her most vulnerable, unfiltered, raw, work yet, bringing new insight into her inner world and her worldview. As we watched her move through life, from 1989 to TTPD, patterns have been repeated, her way of life has changed, and lyrical narratives have changed.
Taylor Swift: A Brand
I think the qualities we associate with her being an ESFJ personality type, is a part of her persona, branded for Swift (the artist), rather than her true nature and preferences for engaging with the world. In fact, I think the criticisms she’s faced throughout her career, are often, a direct result of when she behaves in ways that are, in contrast, with her own brand. Anyone who has been following Taylor Swift’s career, knows that her image has been carefully crafted. What is the brand you may ask? From her Self Titled era to the Red era, she was perceived as the small town, relatable, girl next door, who yearns for recognition, significance, and a forever love. Most storybook and television characters that fall into the girl next door trope, are SJ/FJ types. Now ask yourself, what is her brand now? Two things that have stuck with her branding is being relatable and being on a quest for true love. Despite writing about this, she lives a life that is in conflict with this. In the TCU (Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe), we've come to learn that Taylor Swift is often, her own barrier to finding a life partner, as she finds herself in relationships that have no grounds in longevity. This is very consistent with the way Explorer types move through life.
The 4 Temperaments
Catalysts (Diplomats): These are the NF types whose core needs are self realization, integrity, and meaning.
Stabilizers (Sentinels): These are the SJ types whose core needs are stability, duty, and belonging.
Theorists (Analysts): These are the NT types whose core needs are knowledge, mastery, and discipline.
Improvisers (Explorers): These are the SP types whose core needs are freedom and impact.
Taylor Swift has always expressed a deep desire for freedom and impact in her life. She writes about her fears of losing her relevance as an artist. She writes about constantly feeling trapped in relationships, long term media narratives, and reoccurring challenges due to her own actions. She also writes about her frustrations with having to constantly accommodate for purposes of appeasing public opinion or having to measure up to the expectations of always bouncing back. In one of her biggest hit songs addressing the haters, she states that “she makes up the moves as she goes” and “that’s what they don’t know”. An anthem of “shaking it off.” She also discusses in a recent Times interview that her time away from retreating from the spotlight after the Rep era was one of her biggest regrets because time was wasted on enjoying life and exploring things. It goes against her nature to isolate and stabilize, as she feels the most free and herself in the spotlight, dazzling and being bejeweled. This could be said why she and former partner Alwyn did not work out. He is described to be more of a stabilizing influence which was attractive to her at the time but not a match for her long term.
Taylor Swift's Dominant Function
ESFJs lead with Fe.
Extroverted Feeling - all about appealing to the group and prioritizing group harmony. At its best, it is supportive and uniting. At its worst, it’s intrusive and inauthentic.
ESFPs lead with Se.
Extroverted Sensing - all about the here and now experiences, whether it be socializing or sensationalizing. At its best, it is entertaining and uplifting. At its worst, overindulgent and hyperactive.
False Perception of Extroverted Feeling
Taylor has been believed to be a dominant Fe user because of her amazing ability to emote in her songwriting, providing the listener an opportunity for emotional processing and parasocial human connection. How does she do this if she is not a Fe user? She uses her dominant Se. Taylor demonstrates a true zest for life. She is excitable and joyful about all things, even if she has experienced it before. In her personal life, she is often strutting the streets in high fashion outfits, exploring the city with her famous friends, hosting large social gatherings at her various homes, and attending lavish parties. In her work life, she is always plotting, planning, and scheming. She is a doer, working hard to pursue her career goals at the young age of 9. She sings and dances like no one is watching at award shows. She isn't one to stick with routine or tradition (Si), moving on from one thing to the next (creative reinvention). She tends to have passionate, short-term relationships over long-term ones. In songs about her 6 year relationship, she narrated how she struggled with feeling satisfied with a calm and quiet life, as she loves the lifestyle that comes with being famous. Taylor loves the honeymoon phases of relationships. Taylor moves through life freely, without restraint, immersing herself in her experiences. She is very inspired by her experiences, which translates in her music. Her musical reinventions have also been inspired by her own life shifts (eras).
Taylor Swift's Auxiliary Function
ESFJs secondary function is Si.
Introverted Sensing- prioritizes comparing and contrasting the present with the past in order to decide and experience things. At its best, it is steadfast and careful. At its worst, it is stubborn and regressive.
ESFPs secondary function is Fi.
Introverted Feeling- prioritizes acting in line with own personal values to pursue harmony with others. At its best, it is nurturing and idealistic. At its worst, it is hypersensitive and melancholic.
False Perception of Introverted Sensing
Taylor has always been honest in her songwriting, and she uses music as a means to process her feelings. Self reflection is a direct result of when she experiences pain and hurt, driving her towards a path of enlightenment. Notice how her albums tend to follow a pattern of excitement, wonder, pain, grief, to enlightenment. Her recall of past events is often narrated when reflecting on past mistakes in an act of self-criticism. In her more recent albums, we hear her often contradict herself in her songwriting, reframing old narratives with new ones, being swept up in the lavender haze (Se).
Continued evidence of Introverted Feeling
She has described herself as a “pathological people pleaser” in her songwriting. In her 2020 documentary, Miss Americana, she discusses a past inner conflict with herself from wanting to be perceived as "good" by others. She discusses how earlier on in her career she lived for the external validation that comes with being told she is doing a good job. Taylor was also very influenced by her team at the time, who heavily moderated her, not allowing her to express her own personal beliefs and values. Taylor’s persona was clearly intended to present as a polished, conservative, good girl from the Fearless era to her Red era. She would share how she doesn’t drink or do drugs in interviews. She dressed very modestly, refrained from cursing or writing about lust. If you play close attention to those earlier years, the true nature of Taylor Swift comes out, in moments where she would be unfiltered, publicly calling out ex-boyfriends, on national television and directly naming them in her songs. Her responses to backlash and criticism has never been to submit, but to rebel. What I think is important is less about her desire for external validation but more about her responses to rejection. Per understanding of the ESFJ, being a Fe user, they would submit and align themselves with the group or cultural norm. Taylor has reinvented herself over and over again, in sound and aesthetic (Se), even at the discouragement of her team. She later became vocal about her political views and advocated for her beliefs. She also has advocated for artists rights for proper compensation during the streaming era and for reduced record label exploitations per experience with losing her masters. All very introverted feeling moves.
Taylor Swift's Tertiary Function
ESFJs use Ne.
Extroverted Intuition- prioritizes focusing on possibilities. At its best, it is open minded and inventive. At its worst, it is indecisive and impractical.
ESFPs use Te.
Extraverted Thinking-prioritizes achieving goals and consistency in external environments. At its best, it is confident and organized. At its worst, it is cold and judgmental.
Evidence of Extraverted Thinking
Taylor Swift's mastermind ability is directly related to her Te function. She is very aware of thoughts and beliefs of the collective, keenly planning and scheming ways to maintain her success and outdo her previous accomplishments.
Taylor Swift's Inferior Function
ESFJs use Ti.
Introverted Thinking- Prioritizes analytic thought and logical thinking. At its best it is, informative and reliable. At its worst, it is negative and impersonal.
ESFPs use Ni.
Introverted Intuition- Prioritizes depth in understanding. At its best, it is insightful. At its worst, it is unrealistic and overly subjective.
Evidence of Introverted Intuition
Taylor insightfulness shines through in her self-reflection from learning life lessons. However, the lessons do not stick with her as she tends to repeat the same patterns. Taylor, herself, has written about this flaw, stating that she "makes the same mistakes every time" and "has this thing where she gets older but never wiser".

Girl Meets World: The actual enneagram types of Riley, Maya, Farkle, Lucas, Smackle, and Zay
Tumblr media
The Protagonist: Riley Matthews [Type 7]
Tumblr media
“Dream dreams Maya. You’re going to get everything you want in life.”
Enneagram wing: 7w6 (Enthusiast along with the loyalist)
“Life is so much simpler in black and white.”
Core Fear: To be trapped in pain
Core Desire: To be happy
Core Longing: You will be taken care of
Riley Matthews is a character that embodies the epitome of hope. She actively chooses the focus on the good rather than the bad and encourages everyone else to do so. When the world forces her to acknowledge the realities of life, she takes it extremely hard and struggles to bounce back. However, no matter what happens she still shines her light and makes the world a better place, one good deed and word at a time. Her need to live in an idealistic world, dubbed “Rileytown”, causes her to appear less mature than her peers, as well as, odd and eccentric but Riley Matthews clearly demonstrates that our flaws are also our strengths. Riley is an extroverted character for sure but falls more on wing 6 due to her need for security. She needs to believe that though things change in life, she and her loved ones will never separate.
The Best Friend: Maya Hart [Type 6]
Tumblr media
“Awards are a scam. A girl like me never had a chance, Matthews. Never had a chance.”
Enneagram wing: 6w7 (Loyalist along with the enthusiast)
“Trying to put myself out of misery.”
Core Fear: Having security, guidance, and support.
Core Desire: Fearing fear itself, being without support, security, or guidance; being blamed, targeted, alone, or physically abandoned
Core Longing: You are safe and secure
Maya is realistic, confident, bold, and outspoken. However, in contrast to Riley, she embodies the epitome of hope breeding eternal misery because much of her life has proven that. She is constantly doubting that good things will happen in her life. Riley brings to the table what Maya lacks and I believe this is what draws them together and sanctifies their close friendship. Riley encourages her to hope for the best and luckily the best does come. Maya challenges others for sure which is why I pegged her as an 8. I believe she is the one to one subtype which can make 6′s be mistyped as 8′s. Her true motivation is being safe (as someone pointed out in the comments which has been removed as of now). She ultimately finds that in her friendship with Riley and her newfound family with Shawn. She attempts to find pleasure in mischief and risk taking to avoid her pain putting her on a wing 7.
The Intellect: Farkle Minkus [Type 5]
Tumblr media
“A Farkle is a nerdy, little scientist genius.”
Enneagram wing: 5w4 (Investigator along with an individualist)
“I feel ya. Lets say you and I play by our own rules.”
Core Fear: Being annihilated, invaded, not existing, or incapable
Core Desire: Being capable and competent
Core Longing: Your needs are not a problem
Farkle is defined by his intelligence and ability to think about things more advanced than his peers. Farkle enjoys this title and doesn’t really have much of an identity outside of it. We don’t get that emotional depth from him like we do with the other characters because he is very much emotionally closed off. He is logical and the friend you call when you want to discuss important things. He only is  insecure about his role as “the genius” when other people bully him for his gifted nature. This causes him to feel as if he lacks what other people have (particularly Lucas) which puts him on wing 4.
The Alpha Male: Lucas Friar [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“I think I’ve been the most changed by these people. I know whatever I’m feeling I can say it and they’ll listen.”
Enneagram wing: 9w8 (Peacemaker along with a challenger)
“Did you really think there was something you can put in this window to keep me from helping you?”
Core Fear: Being in conflict, feeling shut out, losing connection with others
Core Desire: Inner stability
Core Longing: Your presence matters
Lucas is defined by how much he cares about his friends. He also holds on to his Texas roots because he believes they are an essential part of who he is. His identify is rooted in these things, Lucas wouldn’t be much of a character without these ties. He tends to be protective rather than perfectionistic and principled so that lands him on wing 8.
The Prodigy: Isadora Smackle [Type 4]
Tumblr media
“Intelligence, compassion, integrity, courage. That army is the real you. No matter what you look like.”
Enneagram wing: 4w3 (Individualist along with the achiever)
“My outward appearance now seems to represent the current trends agreeable to the general populace.”
Core Fear: Being inadequate, emotionally cut off, plain, mundane, defective, flawed, or insignificant
Core Desire: Being unique, special, and authentic
Core Longing: You are loved and seen for who you are (special and unique)
Smackle, much like Farkle, is unqiue and nerdy but Smackle has a quality about her that makes her much more rare. While Farkle is motivated by knowledge, Smackle is motivated by understanding the world around her in it’s depth and complexity and because of this, she beats Farkle every time.  It is this authenticity that radiates from her steaming from her autistic condition. She clearly generates her self-worth from her uniqueness and her successes. She is the overachieving type putting her at a wing 3.
Note: Zayn Babineaux was not a very devleoped character. His type is hard to pinpoint rather than me just stereotyping him. He is described as a smooth talker, confident, as well as, someone Lucas has to often get out of trouble. This could make him 3, 7, or an 8.

Here is my enneagram tying of the HIMYM characters 😁
How I Met Your Mother: The actual enneagram types of Ted, Marshall, Lily, Barney, and Robin
Tumblr media
The Hopeless Romantic: Ted Mosby [Type 2]
Tumblr media
“Love doesn’t make sense! You can’t logic your way into or out of it. Love is totally nonsensical. But we have to keep doing it or else we’re lost and love is dead, and humanity should just pack it in. Because love is the best thing we do.“
Core Desire: To be loved, wanted, and needed
Core Fear: Being dismissed, discarded, or rejected
Ted’s main goal in the show is to find love and be loved in return (in almost a desperate fashion). He often does grand gestures to win love interests over and is dubbed as the most romantic guy of the friend group. Ted doesn’t really have much of a personality outside of just wanting to be loved. It is also noted that he is a bit pretentious and is also an architect. His behavior can sometimes look like a 4 but the enneagram is based on motivations rather than behavior. Ted doesn’t behave in much of a helper fashion unless there is a motive behind it (i.e. getting a girl to date him). However, type 2′s are connected to 4′s in that they can look like 4′s when in growth. It can be said that Ted is always in growth mode as he lives and learns from his failed relationships. With that said, Ted is 100% motivated by wanting to be loved, wanted, and needed. Ted isn’t the healthiest 2 and is a bit narcissistic, which clearly affects his behavior not appearing as stereotyped as a 2. He perceives himself to be the victim in a lot of situations when he has done a lot of messed up things to the girls he dated. He judges his friend Barney a lot for his behavior when he is a lot more like him than he realizes. He pressures Robin for life she doesn’t want and doesn’t respect her boundaries. However, the weakness of 2′s is pride and 2′s go into 8′s when stressed so maybe it actually does fit.
The Humanitarian: Marshall Eriksen [Type 6]
Tumblr media
“Yeah, I’m scared, ok? But when I think about spending the rest of my life with Lily. Committing forever with no other women, it doesn’t scare me at all. I’m marrying that girl.”
Core Desire: To be secure and in community
Core Fear: Being stranded and without support or safety
Marshall is very much defined by his loyalty and duty. He gives his all to his job, wife, family, and friends. He even only has been with one woman (Lily) and doesn’t quite comprehend his friends who have many causal relationships. He feels a responsibility to do good by the universe shown in his passion for global warming which is why he became a lawyer. He is very compassionate and always strives to be prepared. He balances out the sometimes impulsive and reckless, Lily. He is very down to earth and very grounded. Marshall is very much affected by those who take his loyalty for granted, shown in his utter mental turmoil after Lily abandons him and when his boss overlooks him so he quits. He values the security his circle brings him when life isn’t always so stable. Marshall doesn’t seem to have excessive anxiety which is the extreme version of a six. He seems to be a very healthy six.
The Bohemian: Lily Aldrin-Eriksen [Type 4]
Tumblr media
“Definitions are important.”
Core Desire: To find her true heart and feel deeply seen and known
Core Fear: Being too much or not enough
Lily is a hard character to type. She comes off as a 7 with her optimism, fun-loving, and adventuress nature. She also comes off as a 2 due to her need to always give advice and sometimes assert herself when she’s not needed. However, when 4′s go into stress they look like 2′s. The friend group does put her in a lot of stressful situations. With that said, I believe Lily is a type 4. Lily is deep, introspective, insightful, emotional, and empathetic. She is very in tune with her emotions and challenges everyone else to be emotionally open and true to themselves. She is motivated by a need to be special and unique, as well as, leave her mark on the world. She struggles greatly with her identity and making sure she is living a life that is reflective of her truest self. This is essentially what gave her cold feet at first when she was engaged to Marshall; she felt she wasn’t being true to herself by neglecting her artistic side. She was very much an individualist in high school and college, with her gothic like style. It seems Marshall rubbed off on her a bit with his dutiful nature and stability. She eventually paves her way with her art career, achieving her desire and balancing it out with her duties as a wife, friend, and mother. When 4′s are in growth, they take on behaviors of a 1 and we definitely see this with her.
The Womanizer: Barney Stinson [Type 7]
Tumblr media
“This is going to be legen… wait for it …dary!”
Core Desire: To be free to meet his needs through finding new opportunities
Core Fear: Being trapped in pain or boredom
Barney is a classic 7 but a very unhealthy 7. He is constantly striving to fill himself up while avoiding being tied down. He essentially has a sex addiction and avoids connecting emotionally to protect himself from the emotional pain that could follow a heartbreak. He sees the bright side of every situation, in his case, inappropriately hyping up and idealizing the bachelor (fuckboy) lifestyle. Barney’s utter lack of empathy is quite concerning, though it’s just a comedic TV show so I’ll try not to look at it so seriously!
The Skeptic: Robin Scherbatsky [Type 5]
Tumblr media
“I may not love you the way you love me, but I do love you.”
Core Desire: To be competent and self-sufficient
Core Fear: Being depleted and without resources
Robin is very isolated, logical, and introverted. She very much appears as a 3 because she constantly expresses that her career is her main priority, however, I believe Robin does this because it is the ‘safe’ thing to do rather than having a deep innate desire to be successful. She turns down a lot of potential opportunities due to fears of overextending herself. Robin also isn’t very image oriented; what you see is what you get with her. For Robin, it’s about independence and being able to meet her needs without needing others. She is extremely knowledgeable about means of self protection. She is motivated by a need to capable and competent. I believe that the trauma she faced from having a father who did not accept her for who she is and emotionally neglected her, resulted in this personality development. She believes she must to be enough for herself because her emotional needs were never met. The isolation she creates between herself and others is a survival method she developed and had to unlearn. Luckily, her friends served as a safe space for her to be vulnerable and in community.

Here is my enneagram typing of the Stranger Things adults :) Happy NYE!!
Stranger Things: The actual enneagram types of Joyce, Jim, Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve
Tumblr media
The Caretaker: Joyce Byers [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“Will wanted me to give him some space, so I gave him few feet.”
Enneagram wing: 9w8 (Peacemaker along with the challenger)
Core Desire: Having inner stability and peace of mind
Core Fear: Being in tension, feeling shut out, and being overlooked
Joyce is extremely caring, bright, and has a strong sense of self which is drawn from her wing 8. She has had a tough past with an abusive marriage but has not let it make her bitter or cold person. She clearly desires peace and stability therefore she keeps to herself to maintain this while nurturing the existing relationships she does have with her boys. She is a little weary in letting others in but when he does it’s a strong, long lasting relationship. Joyce may be counted out or overlooked but she is the rock and glue to the characters and contributes a lot to the groups victories.
The Champion: Jim Hopper [Type 8]
Tumblr media
“And you keep your shit outta my town. That is the deal. I have done my part, now you do yours. Convince me.”
Enneagram wing: 8w9 (Challenger along with the peacemaker)
Core Desire: Protecting yourself and those in your inner circle
Core Fear: Being vulnerable, manipulated, and left at the mercy of injustice
Jim comes off extremely tough and invulnerable due to his rough past but cares so so much about the people he loves. She is always in protector mode and is the clear hero of the series. I don’t even think his type needs more explanation.
The Warrior: Nancy Wheeler [Type 3]
Tumblr media
“I just look forward to you never doubting me again.”
Enneagram wing: 3w4 (The achiever along with the individualist)
Core Desire: Having high status, respect, being admired, successful, and valuable
Core Fear: Being exposed as or thought incompetent, inefficient, or worthless; failing to be or appear successful
Nancy is clever, observant, compassionate, and hardworking. She is goal oriented and a go getter and she desires recognition for this. However, sometimes her need for approval can cause her to discount the important things in life, like her best friend Barb and a good guy like Jonathan. Like Joyce and Hopper, she fiercely advocates for herself and others. She is a feminist icon and is such an underrated character.
The Sidekick: Jonathan Byers [Type 4]
Tumblr media
“Being a freak is the best. I’m a freak.”
Enneagram wing: 4w3 (Individualist along with the achiever)
Core Desire: Being unique, special, and authentic
Core Fear: Being inadequate, emotionally cut off, plain, mundane, defective, flawed, or insignificant
Like Will, Jonathan is different from others but is more secure in this. He leans more on this wing 3 in his pursuit of big dreams and goal setting.
The Babysitter: Steve Harrington [Type 7]
Tumblr media
“I’m stealthy, like a ninja.”
Enneagram wing: 7w6 (Enthusiast along with the loyalist)
Core Desire: Being happy, fully satisfied, and content
Core Fear: Being deprived, trapped in emotional pain, limited, or bored; missing out on something fun
Steve is a classic 7, living for the highs and trying his best to avoid the pain that comes from the lows. He has the hardest time adapting to post high school life as he is sort of aimless about what to do next. He doesn’t want to settle or be tied down. He is more relationship oriented in that he cares what those he loves thinks and wants to be close to others, leaning on his wing 6. He less concerned about control and self protection as a wing 8 would be.

My enneagram typing of the Stranger Things kids :)
Stranger Things: The actual enneagram types of Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Eleven, and Max
Tumblr media
The Lover: Mike Wheeler [Type 2]
Tumblr media
“El, are you there? El? It’s me, it’s Mike. It’s day 352, 7:40 pm, I am still here. If you’re out there, say something… or give me a sign, I won’t, I won’t even say anything, I just… I want to know if you’re okay.”
Enneagram wing: 2w1|2w3 (Helper along with the reformer and achiever)
Core Desire: To feel loved, needed, and appreciated
Core Fear: Being rejected, unwanted and unneeded
Mike is a loyal to a fault going through great lengths to be there for his friends. He was willing to sacrifice himself off a cliff to protect Dustin. He never gave up pursing justice for Will. He also hid Eleven in his home despite the repercussions he may face with his parents and the evil scientists. The hidden motivation behind his actions are to be needed, loved, and wanted. He is very good at intuiting others needs as we see this in his close friendship with Will in season 2 and in his blossoming relationship with Eleven. He sees the good in others and is very trusting which Lucas, a type 6, doesn’t quite understand. He often asserts himself in situations where he is not needed and we see this become a conflict in his relationship with Eleven in season 3. We see him often go into an 8 in stress where he becomes aggressive, outspoken, dominating, and advocating for justice. I believe he leans on both of his wings equally; he shows to have a strong sense of right and wrong but also a innate desire to succeed, be admired, and respected.
The Intuitive One: Will Byers [Type 4]
Tumblr media
“Sometimes the bad guys are smart too.”
Enneagram wing: 4w5 (Individualist along with the investigator)
Core Desire: Being accepted for one’s uniqueness
Core Fear: Being inherently flawed, inadequate, or mundane
Will is the stand out of the bunch not just because of his strong introversion but also his imaginative mind and artistic hobbies. He has never been interested in what his age group has been interested in therefore he is misunderstood by his peers. He also lacked a strong father figure and this has resulted in deep feelings of inadequacy. He desires to be seen and understood by others and it doesn’t help his case that he “died” and lived to tell the tale. I’m hoping to see Will grow more into himself in the upcoming seasons because he is a valuable and important character. His link to the Upside Down proves that. I think he leans on his wing 5 for his intellectual hobbies.
The Defender: Eleven [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“I’m going to my friends. I’m going home.”
Enneagram wing: 9w8 (Peacemaker along with the challenger)
Core Desire: Inner peace and human connection
Core Fear: Instability and separation
Contrary to the life she’s had and the chaotic situations she constantly finds herself in, Eleven is 100% motivated by having inner peace. She is very much values her friends and adoptive family and leans on her wing 8 to protect them. She is a very complex character and this is clearly from the emotional and physical trauma she suffered in her childhood; she is tough but also extremely empathetic and has has the ability to see things objectively rather than emotionally (a true gift of a 9). This is shown in her choosing to spare one of the scientist’s life from Brenner’s lab despite his contribution to her abuse and Eight (Kali) pressuring her to show no mercy. She empathized with Billy and his abuse despite him being a raging bully.
The Safeguard: Lucas Sinclair [Type 6]
Tumblr media
“We have a lot of rules in our party, but the most important is, ‘Friends don’t lie.’ Never ever. No matter what.”
Enneagram wing: 6w5 | 6w7 (Loyalist along with investigator and enthusiast)
Core Desire: To have security
Core Fear: Being without security
Lucas has demonstrated an innate maturity since season 1. He pushes others to practice self preservation. He likes to have a plan in their action and adventure. Lucas is motivated by his desire to be safe so he calls out others in their stupor, so much so, that his friends are nervous to confess their mistakes to him; this clashes with Mike’s agenda as his need to serve, love, and be there for others. Mike’s potential to be compromised by rose colored glasses, poses as a threat to Lucas’s need for security. Max makes it harder for him in achieving security by constantly raising the bar him in their relationship. Despite this, Max’s challenging nature is what is most attractive to him because it somewhat alludes to security. I think Lucas has balanced wings and draws from his intellectual side as well as his adventurous side.
The Analyst: Dustin Henderson [Type 5]
Tumblr media
“You always say we should never stop being curious, to always open any curiosity door we find. Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?”
Enneagram wing: 5w6 (Investigator along with loyalist)
Core Desire: To be capable and competent
Core Fear: Annihilation, depletion, and being viewed as lacking in capability
Dustin is the clear intellect of the Stranger Kids clan. He is always learning and storing information, mentally retrieving it up when necessary. He is essentially the one who makes the needed mental connections in their quest for victory. He is awkwardly confident yet insecure. He cares a lot about what others think of him and is motivated by a need to be seen as competent. Dustin’s friends mean the world to him and valuing that security from this support/community shows that leans on his wing 6.
The Advocate: Max Mayfield [Type 8]
Tumblr media
“It’s just, I know I can be a jerk like him sometimes, and I do not want to be like him. Ever.”
Enneagram wing: 8w7 | 8w9 (Challenger along with enthusiast and the peacemaker)
Core Desire: Self protection and protecting my people
Core Fear: Being weak, powerless, and controlled
Max is the toughest one of the bunch with almost bully-like qualities. She marches to the beat of her own drum and doesn’t care what other people think. Her character flaw is that she can be too careless sometimes at the expense of others. She is self aware of that though and does her best to combat it. She is motivated by a need to protect herself because no one ever protected her against the abuse of her brother and step-father. Despite her tough act, she cares deeply for her friends and will do whatever she can to protect them too; She is willing to be vulnerable to bond with them. She does not show to lean on either wing making me think she has balanced wings. She definitely doesn’t like to commit too quickly to anything and keep her options open (7) but also can try her best to mediate (9) when this is required of her.
Note: In honor of Stranger Things 4 possibly coming out in 2021. Should I continue this thread with typing the Stranger Things adults?

Check out my enneagram typing of The Good Place characters.
The Good Place: The actual enneagram types of Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason
Tumblr media
The Willful One: Eleanor Shellstrop [Type 8]
Tumblr media
“Rule number one– I get to do whatever I want, and you all just have to deal with it. Rule two: no more Spider-Man movies! There’s way too many Spider-Man movies! Too many dorky little twerpy Spider-Men. Rule three: everyone leave me alone.”
Enneagram wing: 8w7 (Challenger along with enthusiast)
“I’m so ready to learn, it’s like my brain is horny!”
Core Fear: Being weak, powerless, harmed, controlled, vulnerable, manipulated, and left at the mercy of injustice.
Core Desire: Protecting yourself and those in your inner circle
Core Weakness: Lust/Excess
Core Longing: You will not be betrayed
Eleanor’s selfish ways were a defensive mechanism she developed to survive her neglectful childhood. As an adult, we must recognize and choose to unlearn these behaviors to be a unhealthy, better person. Unfortunately, Eleanor did not do this until she was dead. She behaved as an unhealthy 8 would during her time being alive but we see her move toward a healthier 8 during her time in the Bad Place. She is more empathetic and takes on the behaviors of a type 2. She is the leader of the pack, helps/supports others, and brings out the best in all of the characters.
The Moral One: Chidi Anagonye [Type 6]
Tumblr media
“Okay, I’ve made my decision. I want to… start crying”
Enneagram wing: 6w5 (Loyalist along with the investigator)
“I missed my mom’s back surgery because I had already promised my landlord’s nephew that I would help him figure out his new phone.”
Core Fear: Feeling fear itself, being without support, security, or guidance; being blamed, targeted, alone, or physically abandoned
Core Desire: Having guidance, security and support
Core Weakness: Anxiety
Core Longing: You are safe and secure
Chidi devoted his entire life to studying and teaching ethics and because of this it’s easy to mistype him as type 1. Chidi is motived by security which inhibited him from making decisions while alive. It was about right or wrong but more about the consequences he’d face from his decisions. When 6′s are in stress they move to behaviors of a 3, becoming busy and arrogant. We see Chidi grow into healthy aspects of a 9 under the influence of his friends.
The Intrapersonal One: Tahani Al-Jamil [Type 3]
Tumblr media
“Reach for the stars,” as I said to my good friend Elon Musk. And then he shot his car into space. What a weird creep. Why was I friends with him?”
Enneagram wing: 3w2 (Achiever along with the helper)
“Right now I’m just a girl, towering over a boy, asking him to admit he loves me.”
Core Fear: Being exposed as or thought incompetent, inefficient, or worthless; failing to be or appear successful
Core Desire: Having high status and respect, being admired, successful, and valuable
Core Weakness: Deceit
Core Longing: You are loved for simply being you
Tahani’s entire worth came from her successes and what others thought about her. Her unhealthy need of praise/approval is what prevented her from achieving what she wanted ultimately in life: respect and success. Tahani’s growth to a 6 had to be achieved so that could be truly whole inside. She needed be authentic, vulnerable, cooperative, and loyal to her new friends in order to be the best version of herself.
The Interpersonal One: Jason Mendoza [Type 7]
Tumblr media
“I love getting my name on stuff. In Jacksonville, I got a flu virus named after me ‘cause I kissed a bat on a dare.”
Enneagram wing: 7w6 (Enthusiast along with the loyalist)
“I was scared, dawg, but then I remembered my parole officer’s advice, “keep your mouth shut or they’ll throw a book at you.”
Core Fear: Being deprived, trapped in emotional pain, limited, or bored; missing out on something fun
Core Desire: Being happy, fully satisfied, and content
Core Weakness: Gluttony
Core Longing: You will be taken care of
Jason is happy and carefree but an unhealthy 7 due to his extreme impulsiveness. He had to learn to be introspective, empathetic, and creative which is behaviors of his growth number (5) to be the best version of himself.
Note: This show emphasizes the idea that good and bad is not relative. We are either healthy and unhealthy versions of ourselves and in order to live a full life, we must be introspective and connect/be empathetic/accepting of others, as well as, cooperative to grow. Let’s be as self-aware as Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani in the afterlife while on earth. America should take notes.

As for MBTI goes:
Jen Harding- INTJ (Ni-Te-Fi-Se) with strong Te.
Judy Hale- traumatized ENFP (Ne-Fi-Te-Si) with strong Fi.
Note: I’ve taken down my original MBTI analysis of them because I didn’t agree with it anymore. It’s hard to type characters when they are mentally unstable due to their cognitive functions being misused.
Dead to Me: The actual enneagram types of Jen and Judy
Tumblr media
The Hurt: Jen Harding [Type 8]
Tumblr media
“I am the woman of the house, I do the protecting.”
Wing: 8w7 (Challenger along with enthusiast)
Core Fear: Being weak, powerless, harmed, controlled, vulnerable, manipulated, and left at the mercy of injustice
Core Desire: Protecting yourself and those in your inner circle
Subtype: Self preservation (Goes after whatever they need, not very patient, needs to take care of themselves and their people)
Jen is the epitome of a challenger. She dominates all situations and crosses a lot of people. She desires justice, which is demonstrated the most in her quest to bring justice to her husband’s murder in season 1. She is uncomfortable with being in pain and does what she can to run from it putting her on a wing 7.
The Healer: Judy Hale [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“The spirits of our loved ones can find a way to come back to us.”
Wing: 9w1 (Peacemaker along with the reformer)
Core Fear: Being in conflict, tension, or discord; feeling shut out and overlooked; losing connection and relationship with others
Core Desire: Having inner stability and peace of mind
Subtype: One to one (Merge with one other person or series of others - as a way of forgetting their own needs and desires; can be confused with 2)
Judy is sweet, caring, and loyal. She is the helper in a sense that she constantly puts others before herself, losing herself in the process. She is unaware of her needs and is almost more comfortable that way. However, her true desire is to have inner peace rather than to be loved. Her subtype explains her parallel to 2 with her care-taking nature. Judy desires to feel as if her presence matters rather than that she is wanted. She has a strong inner critic and moral compass putting her on a wing 1.

Check out my typings of the characters of The Office!
For MBTI:
Michael- ENFP
Dwight- ESTJ
Jim- ENTP
Pam- ISFJ
Ryan- ESTP
The Office: The actual enneagram types of Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam, and Ryan
Tumblr media
The Bossman: Michael Scott [Type 2]
Tumblr media
“Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”
Enneagram wing: 2w3 (Helper along with the achiever)
“An office is not for dying. An office is a place for living life to the fullest, to the max, to… an office is a place where dreams come true.” (Or possibly where people force them to go to earn paychecks… one or the other.)”
Core Fear: Being rejected and unwanted, being thought worthless, needy, inconsequential, dispensable, or unworthy of love
Core Desire: Being appreciated, loved, and wanted
Subtype: Social (More of a leader, proud image of influence, gives to get)
Michael is not an obvious two. He can come across as narcissistic and self centered through his social awkwardness but I believe this is because most of that behavior is acted out on when he is stressed. He constantly gets himself into awkward situations so he acts on his stress often. As we know, 2′s under stress act more as 8′s. They tend to be manipulative and dominating. 2’s with the social subtype can also appear as 8′s. His core motivation is to be liked and wanted. He wants to have love in his live. He demonstrates this by his attempts to make everyone laugh and have a good time at the office. He makes sacrifices and lets a lot slide so that his workers can keep their jobs. His attempts to support others and ease their pain always fail because of his cluelessness in social etiquette. He is the achiever-image driven type putting him on a wing 3.
The Sidekick: Dwight Schrute [Type 5]
Tumblr media
“Before I do anything, I ask myself, ‘would an idiot do that?’ And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing,“
Enneagram wing: 5w6 (Investigator along with a loyalist)
"Yes, I have a wig for every single person in the office. You never know when you’re gonna need to bear a passing resemblance to someone.”
Core Fear: Being annihilated, invaded, or not existing; being thought incapable or ignorant; having obligations placed upon you or your energy being completely depleted
Core Desire: Being capable and competent
Subtype: Self-preservation (Concerned about being overextended, protect resources, and limits needs/wants)
Everyone who’s seen The Office is aware that Dwight’s mind does not work like the others. He always wants to be prepared for anything and to be of use to others. He values logic over emotional reasoning and is constantly correcting others. Jim’s practical jokes sets him off balance and stresses him out. He always often retaliates because he wants to prove his competency. I believe the biggest proof of Dwight being an 5 is the letter Michael wrote specially to him.
“To whom it may concern. The dictionary defines superlative as: of the highest kind, quality, or order, surpassing all else, or others. Supreme. I define it as Dwight Schrute. As a sales executive, as a leader, as a man, and as a friend, he is of the highest kind, quality, and order. Supreme.“
This letter validated his core desire. He is quite anxious about his safety landing him on a wing 6.
The Comic-Relief: Jim Halpert [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“Everything I have I owe to this job…this stupid, wonderful, boring, amazing job.”
Enneagram wing: 9w8 (Peacemaker along with the challenger)
“I am a black belt in gift wrapping.”
Core Fear: Being in conflict, tension, or discord; feeling shut out and overlooked; losing connection and relationship with others
Core Desire: Having inner stability and peace of mind
Subtype: Social (Can be workaholics, overcompensate to feel part of a group, light-hearted and fun)
Jim is quite subdued yet fun-loving. He is uncomfortable being in any type of conflict, this is especially shown in his relationships with Karen and Pam; even more so in the awkward positions he faces working with the interesting characters at Dunder Mifflin.  He values the things in his life (job, family, friends, kids), appreciating what they bring to the table. Jim is certainly defined by these things. He does his best to stay out of the interpersonal drama in the office and entertains himself through pulling pranks on his coworkers, specifically Dwight. It is learned that Jim got his prankster habits from his brothers who essentially bullied him when he was younger. We can assume this contributes to his peacemaker title but his wing 8 influences him to be a bit more vocal and assertive.
The Underdog: Pam Beesly [Type 9]
Tumblr media
“Be strong. Trust yourself. Love yourself. Conquer your fears. Just go after what you want and act fast, because life just isn’t that long”
Enneagram wing: 9w1 | 9w8 (Peacemaker along with the reformer and challenger)
“There’s nothing like a beautiful day at the beach filled with sun surf and diligent note-taking.”
“I did the coal walk Michael! Maybe I should be your boss.”
Core Fear: Being in conflict, tension, or discord; feeling shut out and overlooked; losing connection and relationship with others
Core Desire: Having inner stability and peace of mind
Subtype: Self-preservation (Merge with comfort of routine, doesn’t pay attention to themselves, irritable, and stubborn)
Pam, like Jim, is subdued and would rather stay out of drama and have peace in her life. They are the most ‘normal’ of their coworkers and their similarities are essentially what attract them to each other. She identifies with the things in her life that matter to her. She’s very caring, supportive, and empathetic. She begins the series leaning on her wing 1 and appears to be more sloth-like but gravitates more towards her wing 8 as the seasons progress. She experiences the most personal growth out of the characters, allowing herself to have a voice and to matter just as much as everyone else.
The Snake: Ryan Howard [Type 3]
Tumblr media
“I’m such a perfectionist that I’d rather not do it at all than do a crappy version.”
Enneagram wing: 3w4 (Achiever along with an individualist)
“People keep calling me a wunderkind.”
Core Fear: Being exposed as or thought incompetent, inefficient, or worthless; failing to be or appear successful
Core Desire: Having high status and respect, being admired, successful, and valuable
Subtype: Social (Wants to be seen as successful, very social, shape-shifter)
Do I even need to elaborate? Ryan is very image-driven. All he cares about is his status, needs, and wants. He wants to be better than other people putting him on a wing 4. He uses people and commits fraud to get where he wants. After he is exposed for fraudulence and loses his status, he appears more like a 9 (sloth-like) for the rest of the show which 3′s goes into when stressed.
Note: I typed in-depth the presumed main characters. There are so many other characters and I find them really hard to type. Maybe because it’s more of a comedy so the emotional depth isn’t there. Let me know what you think!

Check out my enneagram typing of the characters of Boy Meets World! Follow my enneagram page @enneagramwingmiranda
Boy Meets World: The actual enneagram types of Cory, Shawn, Topanga, Eric, and Mr. Feeny
Tumblr media
The Protagonist: Cory Matthews [Type 2]
Tumblr media
“I’m going to fix you, I’m going to fix you, and I’m going to fix you then I’m going to take a bath.”
Wing: 2w1 (Helper along with a reformer)
“Don’t risk anything you aren’t willing to lose.”
Core Fear: Being rejected and unwanted, being thought worthless, needy, inconsequential, dispensable, or unworthy of love
Core Desire: Being appreciated, loved, and wanted
Core Longing: You are wanted
Cory’s main focus is always on other people. He is the caretaker and protector of his loved ones. He believes in the power of love and risks it all to make sure Shawn and Topanga are happy or okay. However, the way he demonstrates this led me to at first thinking he was The Protector (8). This makes sense, however, because at a 2′s stress point they behave as an 8. It is clear though that Cory is motivated by love rather than control. His wing is most definitely a 1. He stands out from his peers with his high moral views. He always does the right thing and often doesn’t understand why others do not posses his life view and sense of morality. He most certainly expects himself from other people.
The Best Friend: Shawn Hunter [Type 4]
Tumblr media
“I don’t know anything. I don’t even know who I am.”
Wing: 4w5 (Individualist along with an investigator)
“I’m afraid of getting hurt okay? I’ve seen the look in my father’s eyes every time someone walks out because he’s not good enough.”
Core Fear:  Being inadequate, emotionally cut off, plain, mundane, defective, flawed, or insignificant
Core Desire: Being unique, special, and authentic
Core Longing: You are seen and loved for who you are
Shawn is somewhat an unhealthy 4. He strives to develop an identity and sense of self throughout the entire series. He envies those who have what he feels he doesn’t. He truly feels very internally flawed and lacking in comparison to others, especially Cory and Topanga. He struggles with self expression. He wants to be special and unique in a good way rather than in a negative way that he feels he is. Shawn is quite withdrawn and analytical. He fears to be perceived as incompetent due to where he came from which lands him on wing 5.
The Soulmate: Topanga Lawrence [Type 3]
Tumblr media
“I’ve never failed. Not now. I’ve worked very hard to be perfect up until now.”
Wing: 3w4 (The achiever along with an individualist)
“I do my thing and you do your thing. You are you and I am I. And if in the end we end up together? It’s beautiful.”
Core Fear: Being exposed as or thought incompetent, inefficient, or worthless; failing to be or appear successful
Core Desire: Having high status and respect, being admired, successful, and valuable
Core Longing: You are loved for simply being you
Topanga is very stable, mature, and charismatic. She values her image and good name. She is a feminist icon and a role model. She cannot handle when anything poses a threat to demolish what she’s worked for. For instance, she demanded that Mr. Feeny would give her the grades needed to be valedictorian. She was at odds with herself when Feeny threatened to fail her if she lead Cory and Shawn to succeeding with their assignment. In fact, Mr. Feeny gave her this assignment so that she could learn that failure is unavoidable in life and that she needed to be okay when this does happen. She was also at odds with herself when she had to choose between Yale and being with Cory. Topanga enjoys being unique and special (4) which adds on to her need for admirable and control of her image. However, she truly is one of a kind and her close ones know it. Cory’s family and friends always remind him of that.
The Older Brother: Eric Matthews [Type 7]
Tumblr media
“Life’s tough, get a helmet.”
Wing: 7w6 (Enthusiast along with a loyalist)
“Lose one friend, lose all friends, lose yourself.”
Core Fear: Being deprived, trapped in emotional pain, limited, or bored; missing out on something fun
Core Desire: Being happy, fully satisfied, and content
Core Longing: You will be taken care of
Eric strives to the see the good in life and take advantage of the adventures that present themselves. However, he can focus too much on these moments, neglecting his duties and responsibilities. The root of his avoidance is inner insecurity. He feels he cannot accomplish worthwhile things. This is a pain he runs away from until life forces him to face it, tackle it head on, and come out gracefully to the other side. Eric falls on the 6 wing for his need to be comforted and guided by the people in his life.
The Mentor: George Feeny [Type 1]
Tumblr media
“To me, a real hero is someone who does the right thing when the right thing is not the easy thing to do.”
Wing: 1w2 (Reformer along with the helper)
“I believe that when you find love, you hold on to it, and cherish it! Because there is nothing finer, and may never come again. And that, my dears, is the most important thing I could teach you.”
Core Fear: Being wrong, bad, evil, inappropriate, unredeemable, or corruptible
Core Desire: Having integrity, being good, balanced, accurate, virtuous, and right
Core Longing: You are good
Mr. Feeny is defined by his morality and virtues. He expects others to behave the same. He truly is influential in his example and mentoring. He obviously lands on a wing 2 for always being there for the people that mean something to him and desiring appreciation for it.

You: Joe Goldberg [INFJ]
Tumblr media
Dominant function: Ni Auxiliary function: Fe Tertiary function: Ti Inferior function: Se
Ni (Introverted Intuition)- Joe is constantly reading other people and feeding off the energies of those that catch his attention. His small interests turn into unhealthy obsessions, with his attempts to interpret the meanings and connections of others behaviors so that he can use this information to his advantage. This behavior is blown up when he falls in love, however, because he lives in his mind this unhealthy trait goes unnoticed by others. He also lives in a dream world of fantasy and idealism (psychosis in his sense), idealizing his lovers and painting them perfect without really even knowing them.
Fe (Extroverted Feeling)- Due to Joe’s mentally disorder mind, this function isn’t used to a healthy degree either. He feeds off his target’s vulnerabilities and appeals to them to lock them in (he makes his move on Beck when she is drunk and suicidal thus making a big impression on her and leading them to a toxic romance). He is shown to ‘care’ about other people and goes to great lengths such as murder (!!!) to eliminate any perceived threats to the target or to his ownership of them. Not only does he do this for Beck but also for Pac because he somewhat identifies with him.
Ti (Introverted Thinking)- Joe’s logical trait is what essentially keeps him out of trouble. It protects him by getting him out of his head (Ni) and out of his feelings (Fe).
Se (Extraverted Sensing)- Joe also analyzes all possible outcomes of sensory experiences because he is fully aware that things can change. He is a stilled predator.
Note: Joe clearly has Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) which symptoms include lying, breaking laws, acting impulsively, and lack regard for their own safety or the safety of others. He also has Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD) which symptoms include not desiring or enjoying close relationships, even with family, and are often seen as loners. Guinevere Beck comes off as an ESFP and Peach is ENTJ.
Side note: It sucks how personality disordered characters portray diplomatic personality types like INFJs and ENFJs to an unhealthy degree.

The Good Place: Jason Mendoza [ESFP]
Tumblr media
Dominant function: Se Auxiliary function: Fi Tertiary function: Te Inferior function: Ni
Se (Extroverted Sensing)- Jason is another textbook ESFP in television. His main focus is on the present moment. He enjoys the world through his five senses. He likes partying, stealing, abusing substances, sex... basically anything that is pleasurable and gives him a rush.
Fi (Introverted Feeling)- He is friendly but doesn’t consider much how his actions will effect other people. He is very self serving.
Te (Extroverted Thinking)- Jason is quite charming and is pretty skilled in achieving his wants; all he has to do is play dumb or create random distractions. He’s committed many crimes and never faced the consequences for them.
Ni (Introverted Intuition)- Jason shows very little awareness of anything.
