interesting dichotomy of wlw pairings swirling in my brain right now. from the healthy, down-to-earth, though tragic to hopeful relationship between phoebe/crystal to the 1.3 million mind games going on between kitty/lili. truly the spectrum of pn yuri. lucassie is there, too, somewhere in the middle.

remembering my extremely old bobbychloe fankid from out of the blue named serena (after mare serenitatis). her main traits were being bobby jr. and whispering rock’s jock lesbian (with an interest in robotics on her mom’s side).

oh fuck i haven’t made a mirchloe post in forever ummmmm mirtala and her itty bitty hands fascinate chloe. no human has hands that small. she must be a zwickian, and zwickians are with fathians as her favorite aliens. she must continue this research by holding mirtala’s hand - wait tala is now picking up chloe effortlessly. my god with one hand, too. something so yuriful is happening.

nils going to bat for chloe, thinking elka is trying to mess with her, is a pretty interesting character beat for him. commenting on elka's neglect, when she was always adamant about them being together, pushing for a relationship that he never wanted, and then ignoring him speaks volume for her. she foresees they'll be together, so it must be so. her conflicted emotions for nils have highs and lows, and this aspect of neglect during the relationship shows her own dislike for what the future holds. a part of her doesn't want to be with nils.

as for nils, he isn't interested in an extended relationship, but he has history with elka. they've been together since at least last year. with how his own parents tend to look the other way, letting him watch r-rated movies and other inappropriate content for a nine-year-old boy, nils seeks connections, so when a genuine connection is denied to him, he becomes annoyed, maybe a little spiteful. he's fine with flirting, but with a relationship such as the one he has with elka, it's tumultuous, deeper than his flings because she insists it will be, but it's emotionally unfulfilling for both of them.

remembering a super old headcanon from years ago out of the blue. still not sure where mikhail fits in my personal future au, but i recalled a fic i wrote about some shitty kid taking his car for a joy ride to impress a girl at whispering rock, and bobby had to drive him around to find it. the gist of bringing that up is bobby and mikhail ran a fight club for the astral warriors (secretly! don't tell phoebe) but crystal found out, and now, she's joining them to make sure it's really safe! because while mikhail and bobby have taken precautions, they're too lax for her liking (i used to think they'd share a drink on particularly lazy nights). so, they're shooting the breeze while two kids go at it (safely!), and mikhail mentions off-hand that his family used to visit their summer home. they used to spend many weeks up in the mountains, enjoying each other's company and the perks of being born to a decently wealthy family.

what he is not expecting is crystal and bobby squinting at him. cue the arrows pointing at them saying "lower-middle class home" and "lived in poverty" respectfully. they pick up their seats and move away from mikhail and have their own conversation. they're united in their petty front fueled by annoyance and partial jealousy. (it doesn't last long - just a one night thing, and mikhail is rolling his eyes at them.)

it is nice seeing, though, seeing some stats on how they race (even if the wiki is always a little dubious). clem being listed as the slowest makes sense since levitation requires constant, upbeat emotions. crystal being the average racer is nice tidbit to their differing characterizations as clem lets his happy mask slip while crystal tries to stay peppy, even when it hurts. bobby being the fastest out of his sheer desire to beat raz makes him the funniest, most scorned kid in this entire camp (while also being a testament to his talent in levitation as his need for speed and craving to win has him accelerating beyond raz).

phoebe is fascinating in how she acknowledges and stomps out her own struggles. the books and movies she likes are about people losing control of their powers, which she had a history of doing with her pyrokinesis. she chastises herself when she thinks she's having flare-ups and orders herself to stay in control.

so, by focusing on others and assuring she can help them, it's a way of bolstering herself. she wants to be an agent to do just that, but while phoebe admits she has an "addiction" to fire, she also tries putting it in under the rug. she wants to be seen as well-managed! look, everyone, she has it under control! she's helpful, reliable, and cool, but she also has a bit of a temper, and she's incredibly opinionated. she doesn't want to be wrong, and when her worries are exposed, she falters, and that unnerved emotion is a chink in her armor. she's somewhat two-faced in a manner that doesn't intend harm, as it's a way to keep herself in control. she doesn't want to be known as the "kid who keeps burning things/others." she doesn't want to go back to being that person, even if she slips up or brushes off actual criticism.
