I wouldn’t last an hour sitting at a desk, ” they said, mocking a gag, their nose then scrunching up. “ I can’t do work without doing something. Hence, actor. ” A dramatic wave of their hand, and their expression shifted to a smile.

“ I can always figure something out. Wasn’t sure if you’d be up for a full day ; had backup plans, of course. ” Elegy put their hand to Yi’s back, guiding them along. “ A walk about town, perhaps ? Stopping into some stores, then a nice lunch ? ”

Hooking their arm around Yi's, they began to walk, the attorney in tow. " Now, how shall we spend these precious few hours ? "

Yi had turned to see Elegy arrive, their smile growing a bit wider. It had been a battle to get out of work, but they had managed to worm themself out of the meetings and paperwork to visit an old friend.

Yi hadn't been looking at Dark while he spoke, not bothering to want to look at him. Even if they had been freed of the mirror, they didn't feel the most amicable to the entity who placed them there. Or anyone who had been at that damned party, to tell the truth.

So when Dark grabbed their chin and turned them, a flash of anger immediately filled them. Grabbing his wrist and pulling his hand off of their chin, they spat out, " Do not touch me like that. "

I don’t remember. I know I should. I’m sorry.

Though surprise shocks him, he fights back any sort of reaction. Yi had been through enough. He didn’t want to add to that pain.

“ . . . I want to tell you that it will all be okay, but I know that I cannot promise that, ” he slowly began. “ Please, though . . . know that all I ever wanted was to help you. To keep you safe. If I could have spared everyone from all of this, I would have, in a heartbeat. ”

The phantom pains of that night still lingered heavily around him. He didn’t remember it. Not as well as he used to . . . but he knew that something happened. Something, that tore everything apart. Something that he’d stood and watched as it all fell to pieces. Maybe he’d been able to do something, at least to try. Maybe he never could have. He didn’t know. He never would.

I’m not the same person I was. I wish I still were.

To keep you safe. Something Yi had thought about time and time again, whether this was done out of malice or for protection. To damn them or save them. It was a nice thought, that this was done out of kindness, but that kindness had turned this place into their own living hell.

Yi stared at Damien, not moving, not breathing. Just...staring.

"Damien." Yi said, finally shifting just a bit. "That doesn't matter anymore. Even if you wanted to keep all of us safe, you..." They stopped, hesitated. Then they closed their eyes, and said, "You failed."

Thoughts of that day, those hours, spent searching for an answer. Believing they would be the exception to the detective's long list of dead partners. That this house that they'd never liked anyway was just a house.

They opened their eyes again, and with the smallest crack in their voice, Yi said, "We all failed."

There were still many parts to readjusting that Elegy had yet to work their way through. They’d been gone, literally and metaphorically, for so long that everything felt so strange. They’d been so lost.

Now, though . . . for the first time in a long time, not everything felt so horrible. They’d begun to try living again.

In crossing paths with this person, they knew it wasn’t someone they had met much before. Not in person, at least. Yet, there was the lingering sensation that they knew them . . . and not in the same manner as knowing them for their office.

A weak smile and a wave of their hand dismissed any apology. They didn’t need to trouble the District Attorney ! It was an accidental run - in, nothing more. Unless the story had written it to become more.

Yi had been hurrying along, as they tended to, wanting to see if they could grab some lunch with some friends. Being the one to drag their friends around, they were going to lunch either way, but it was nicer to ask before carrying someone away from their work. They almost bumped into the stranger near them, as they sometimes did, and they nodded at them before pausing.

“Hey, wait!” They called out trying to get the person to stop. A…feeling had ran up their body. That sensation, a lingering sense of unfamiliar familiarity that surrounded their life, was back. It almost ran their life with how frequently it popped up. “Do I know you?”

“ Not all of them have been woken up, ” they signed. “ I’m . . . still working on that. Do you need assistance of some sort ? ”

Well, they had claimed to be a bandit. Though, if Aster was being honest, they hadn’t seemed very sure of it. Amidst the chaos, what was one more problem to solve ?

“Ah, cryosleep, yeah, that would…” Yi trailed off. What was the use of keeping up appearances at this point? It was hard enough to wrap their head around what was happening, now trying to lie on top of that was…too much, at this point.

“Ok, so, I may have lied. I’m not a bandit,” they said, slipping the coat just far enough to show Aster their Invincible II patch. “I’m the captain of the Invincible II.”
