I feel like 99% of the advice I see around depression is like telling someone who’s clinging to a piece of a driftwood shivering in cold water “Hey, try lighting the wood on fire, that’ll keep you warm!”
Like A) I can’t B) even if I could I wouldn’t want to and C) you clearly don’t understand what the problem is.
People don’t seem to get that depression isn’t only an emotional state, it’s also a psychological state. When you’re depressed you don’t exist in the same reality as when you’re not. It isn’t like “feeling” depressed, it’s being depressed. Sensory inputs don’t mean the same things when you’re in that state and things that might help when you feel depressed aren’t necessarily remotely relevant when you are depressed.
I think people imagine depression as the low end on the spectrum of well being rather than what it really is which is a different spectrum all together.
