wanted to share my thoughts on a bat based verse based on my extreme bat autism and the miscechiropter I coined on my main :)

🦇 alphas / nocturns (meaning night):

alphas are characterised mainly by their highly sociable and loyal nature. they are valued for high intelligence. alphas typically have very strong scents, but do not necessarily have strong roosting impulses

🦇 betas / stellas (meaning stars):

betas may or may not have alpha or omega traits, such as mating calls, and roosting impulses. betas are often helpful in maternal roosts and help to feed other roostmates. they are more fiercely protective than typical betas and are very physically affectionate. they may or may not have a scent, but are more likely to than omegas

🦇 omegas / lumos (meaning light):

omegas are fiercely protective due to typically having one pup per cycle. they are often very generous but are typically scentless. they have strong roosting instincts and are particularly sociable with other omegas and betas, and can be with alphas

🦇 behaviours:

as bats typically hibernate in the winter, a miscechiropter society is often more dormant during this period, spending long hours resting and sleeping either alone or in roosts, which can be solely omegas (etc), or can be mixed-dynamic.

mating season is during the late summer to autumn, but maternal colonies are not formed until after the winter as pups are born in spring. mating between different roosts is very common. roosts can vary in size and typically have very strong lifelong bonds

other than speech, communication and emotion is expressed through squeaks, trills, screeches and chirps. alphas attract with unique calls that can sometimes sound more like squawks and buzzes, as well as strong scents

this is by no means how a miscechiropter verse HAS to be, just my personal ideas. tagging @miscedefined this may interest you!!

yknow what every1 always talks about omegas being the ones to cook but hear me out, alphas in the kitchen

-> they plan meticulously to make sure all the meals are providing all essential nutrients

-> they feel pride knowing their pack is well nourished because of them

-> planning months in advance for holiday meals ("we'll need two turkeys, fourteen potatoes, three salads and a baked alaska." "that seems like a lot" "i'm worried it won't be enough")

-> big strong alpha muscles kneading bread/pita/naan/tortilla dough. you agree.

-> omega's hungry because of the early stages of heat? alpha's already baked three batches of cookies and a pizza

-> territorial grill-off's. arguing over the proper technique for kebabs.

-> cub/packmate has a big test, sports meet or an interview that day? alpha's up at dawn making a continental breakfast loaded with protein

-> the pack eats together. always.

facts about packs!!!

packs of foxes are called skulks, leashes, and earths! (they are also called leads and of course packs sometimes) packs of rabbits are called warrens or fluffles! (also commonly called a colony) packs of (house/non-stray) cats are called clowders! (for kittens though, its called a kindle. for feral or stray cats theyre called a colony) packs of deer are called herds! (same with cows, elk, etc) packs of birds are called flocks! (sometimes flight flocks though) packs of frogs are called armies! (also colonies, or knots) packs of lions are called prides! packs of lemurs are called troops! (and conspiracies??? apparently??? monkey packs are also called troops) packs of badgers are called cetes!

hi! not a coining post but I noticed three people already using my version of miscecanis scent flags and that’s SO COOL! if anyone is interested in using my template, I’ve created an easier to edit version with individual layers below

to use- I make my flags in ibis paint so the easiest way is to export the first completed flag and then export all the individual layers, it should line up perfectly

disclaimer- this is by no means the only template you can use for scent flags, this one was unintentionally inspired by omegai’s typical scent flags and I’ve seen a bunch that have really unique symbols and are nothing like this. you are welcome to edit this template as you like, change the number of stripes, etc [edit: noticed a missed like a whole sentence here somehow, fixed now lol]
