Smalltown Boy was on the radio, and I just wanted you to know it still made me think of you and of Kicked Around, Pushed Around.
That fic had/has such a special relationship to music that keeps it alive to me in a way that most things just can’t.
I am so glad for this message. In the three years that have passed since I wrote pushed around, my feelings about it and abt st in general have changed, but I'll forever love the fact that I tried to convey the way I experience music through eddie's character, the big and small ways it can be tremendous, life-changing, a way of communication like nothing else, and people got it, liked it, discovered new songs through it. Hey did you guys know that in the Mongol Empire, the personal bodyguards of the royal family outranked almost every other military officer and they were called kheshig which means favored or blessed and membership was viewed as a high honor and an alternative to hostage-taking noblemen and included the responsibility for watching over their charges while they slept, with the name of the night guard division roughly translating to 'ones that are lying on the bed/floor'.
Anyway, remember how Esen had Ouyang raised up from slave to personal bodyguard and then head of all his guards?
