jake peralta going on a blind date that boyle set up but she’s actually completely his type
literally the love of my life tysm for the request
-
"No. No. No. No. No. No. No. And did I mention, no!" Jake says exasperatedly. "You see, I knew you would say that which is why I already set up the date with her." Charles rebuttals. He tells her his name as he taps rhythmically on Jake's desk. "She's thirty-two, she loves herself some Tay-Tay, and her favorite soup is crab bisque. I met her in my hot goat yoga class." "Ew, what." "Yeah, I'm hearing how that sounds now. But still, I think you'd like her. Who knows, by the end of the night you may just be smushing booties." Jake groans, "God, Boyle, don't say smushing booties." "Right, yeah, yep," He picks up the file from Jake's desk, turning to the man as he walks away, "Shaw's Bar, 8 o'clock."
Charles turns back around and bumps into Terry as he walks to his desk. He groans as he crushes his yogurt cup in his hand, "Damnnit, Boyle." "Sorry," He says as he backs toward the exit of the bullpen. He rapidly clicks the close button once inside the elevator, evading Terry's angry gaze. "Jake sighs as he looks back at his computer.
"So, hot date tonight, huh?" Amy asks as she leans around their computers to smirk smugly at him. "Uhm, no. I'm not going," He says, his eyes not leaving the screen as he types mindlessly. "What? Why not? Charles says she's perfect for you." "Exactly: Charles thinks she's perfect for me. Knowing him she's either some hot goat yoga-loving freak, or-" "Or actually perfect for you. I think you should give it a shot. I mean, you're constantly complaining about how horribly dull your love life is," Jake frowns, "Hey, now, I wouldn't say horrible dull-" "Yes you would, and you have. Now no more fighting, you have a date to get ready for." Jake looks at the time at the bottom right corner of his monitor and sighs, "All right, fine. But when this all goes to total shit, I'm blaming you." Amy rolls her eyes with a grin and opens the next file from her stack as Jake makes his way to the elevator.
-
The bell rings as Jake opens the door to Shaw's Bar, his free hand shoved in his jacket pocket. The warm, boozy bar air fills his nostrils as he steps toward the bar, the glass door closing slowly behind him. He looks around the bar, hoping to instantly recognize the mystery woman, to no avail.
The bell rings again as Jake asks Hank for an orange soda on the rocks. The bartender sighs exhaustedly as he pulls the Crush can out of the mini fridge from behind the bar. "Jake?" A voice asks as someone taps him on the shoulder. He turns around, and his mouth opens and closes like a fish as his brain short-circuits. "Or not?" You laugh awkwardly, "I'm really sorry about this, I was told someone would be here, but it looks like he stood me up." You sit one chair over at the bartop, sighing as you rest your chin on your fist.
"Hi," Jake says as he hold out his hand, "I'm Jake." "Oh," You breathe, "Sorry. You didn't say anything and I just thought- Y'know what, never mind, I'm probably not what you were expecting." Jake smiles, "Well, you're right there. Charles told me he met you in a 'hot goat yoga class'." You cringe slightly, "I honestly didn't even know his name, I walked into the wrong building and he started talking to me about his friend Jake." "Sounds about right." You both laugh and he moves to the chair between you.
"So, my weird friend tells me you like Taylor Swift," Jake starts and the conversation lasts hours, the orange soda on the countertop left completely ignored. "All right, time to wrap it up. The bar's closing." Hank says as he wipes the counter. "Oh my god, how long have we been here?" Jake asks him, surprised. The bartender ignores him as he moves on to another part of the bar. You look around to find the bar completely empty.
You laugh quietly, "This was fun," You say softly as you exit the bar, "We should do this again-" You're cut off by a sudden surprising kiss, Jake's hands holding your cheeks gently to keep you close. Your eyes flutter closed and take the collar of his shirt in your fists. He pulls away, mumbling out a quick 'noice' before getting pulled back into a kiss that leaves him gasping for breath.
-

Laughter rings throughout the house. Love fills your heart as you watch your little girls play with their dolls--likely plotting the end of the world together. You take a sip from your mug as your phone lights up.
Instagram Notification
You hold up your phone in front of your face to unlock it, frowning at the direct message request.
hello are you y/n y/l/n that lives in the town hawkins?
You quickly send back a message.
Hello Could I ask why?
They reply within seconds.
do you know someone called eddie munson?
The name nearly makes your breath hitch.
Yes. He was an old friend of mine. I'm talking ages ago.
Not technically a lie, you think to yourself.
i found a mixtape made by him and i would like to share it with you
You look up at the girls and smile sadly, imagining what could've been as you type out your response.
That would be great!Eddie was my High School lover. I haven't heard that name in years!
i will send the mixtape now
The three dots pop up again, then fall, and then, after another several minutes, they send an audio message. You look again at those girls, who look so much like Eddie you'd think he was their father. You look down at the dimmed screen in your hand and only now realize how long you were staring dazedly at your daughters. You tap the screen before it goes completely dark and stand up, walk to the comfort of your bedroom, and close the door.
You take a deep breath to calm yourself, putting in your earbuds before you press play. You listen to the calming melody, so far from what you remember Eddie's music to sound like that you almost think the person who messaged you was pulling your leg. However, as the lyrics start, and you hear that gravelly voice of the man you never stopped loving, you feel a sense of gratitude to the stranger for letting you hear this after all these years.
"I think of you all the time, now that you're gone." He sings, and a lump begins to form in your throat, your vision suddenly going blurry. You think back to all the memories you made with the love of your life, think of the happy and the sad, the bitter and the sweet, and everything in between. With Eddie, there was no bad. not even during arguments.
"I've been doin' all kinds of drugs to get you out of my mind." a silent tear falls and you cover your mouth to hide in your sobs. You remember this. You remember all the pain he was going through, all while playing it off so you wouldn't see just how much he was hurting. You remember the final fight you had, the one that ended it all. You remember the way he cut you off from his life after you got mad at him for keeping it all bottled up. You know you shouldn't have, that you should've been more understanding, you know it then too, but you were fed up. You were done seeing him hurt, not only from the pains life put him through but from his own pocket knife and the substances he put in his body.
β€œ'Cause I noticed you don't like me no more and it breaks my heart." You want to go back in time; to tell him he's wrong, that you love him with all your heart and just want to see him get better. But you know that you can't, that it's too late, that you'll never be able to hold him again.
"So I'll just drift away and disappear for a while." At that you finally fall to the floor, your body shaking in time with your cries of pain and grief. You can hear the door open and three sets of feet walking into the room. You can feel the large arms that hold you every night wrap around your wilting frame, the smaller ones cuddling into your sides. But none of this does anything to mend the shattered, trapped heart; none of this brings Eddie back.
An hour passes before you notice the mixtape stopped playing that beautiful, sad voice; before you notice the last message the stranger sent.
do you know how i could contact him? i thought i would share it with him as well
Your fingers tremble, tears filling your eyes again.
I'm sorry but Eddie passed away over a decade ago now. He struggled with his mental health severely.
You close your eyes the moment you press send, letting your phone slip from your hands as you let your tears flow. Eddie's smile flashes through your mind; his laugh plays in your ears; you can almost feel the long, messy curls that draped over his face; you can nearly smell the cologne that he only bothered to put on when you came over; you can taste the salty kisses you shared after you caught him in the bathroom with his knife.
You hate yourself every day for letting him shut you out. You want to scream at the world for taking him from you. You're mad at yourself for not being happy with your current life; for not loving your husband completely; for letting your heart belong to the ghost of your past that still haunts you inside. But most of all, you hate that this was all your fault.

Book in hand, you walk through the halls, bundled in a sweater to fight the autumn chill. Aiming for your cream-colored locker, you can see the stickers littering the metal as someone bumps into you from behind, forcing the book from your hands and making you lose your page. You swear as you begin to bend down to pick it up, bumping your head against the person in front of you. You both pull back, lifting a hand to touch the aching spot on your forehead.
"Shit, sorry." A masculine voice draws your gaze upward and you lock eyes. You see your book in his hand, held out between the two of you. You take it back slowly, frowning as you see a smudge on the pages and a dent in the corner. You look up in time to see his eyes widen, looking at something behind you, before he grabs your face in both his hands and presses his lips to yours.
You stand completely frozen and only dare to breathe once he pulls away completely, his hands still planted on your cheeks. "I'm really sorry," he whispers, his breath mingling in the air between you. You notice now that he smells like he just came from the cafeteria; He had pizza for lunch, you note. You finally will your body to move and you turn your head in time to see a girl staring at the two of you, her eyes focusing on a spot on the wall as soon as you catch her. You turn back to the boy in front of you and nod in understanding. "It's fine," You say. He lets out a seemingly relieved breath, the corners of his lips twitching up into a half-smile.
You notice it falter slightly, his eyes once again behind you, and you rise on your toes to kiss him again. You grab his neck with your free hand and your eyes catch before the space closes and you let yours shut tightly. His hands snake around your waist as your mouths mold together, and when he pulls away, you're both breathless. He looks behind you once more, to find that the girl is gone, and his eyes are back on you.
"Thank you. Really, thank you," he starts, "I broke up with her like over a month ago and she's been obsessed with me. Keeps trying to get back together." He looks down at you, scratching the back of his neck nervously. "I, uh, I didn't catch your name." You let out a sudden snort and your face heats as you cover your mouth with your sleeve-covered hand. You tell him your name, doing your best to keep your voice even. "Well, nice to meet you. I'm Steve," He laughs softly as he speaks. A moment passes, your eyes not leaving his. "Hey, uhm, this might sound weird--I mean I don't even know you--so feel free to say no, but would you mind," He coughs, clearing his throat, "would you mind, maybe, pretending to be my girlfriend?"
You're face falls, eyes wide and lips opening and closing like a fish as you try to think of a way to respond. "Just for a little--a few weeks maybe. I just- I think this might be the longest I've gotten a moment of peace from you know who." You open your mouth again to reply and he interrupts again, "You know what, that was dumb, I'm sorry. Have a nice day." He turns to walk away and you grab his wrist before you lose the nerve.
"Okay," You say simply. "Okay?" "Okay. I'll do it." He looks as though he'll fall to his knees with gratitude as he thanks you repeatedly. You pull him to your locker, unlocking it quickly before you place your book inside and take out a piece of paper and a pen. You scribble something onto it quickly and hand it to him. "My phone number," you start, "I don't have my own line, so don't be alarmed if a grouchy old man picks up the phone; that's my dad." He takes it and nods, placing it in his letterman jacket's pocket. "We should probably talk about how this is gonna work, so call me. My dad usually blacks out by eight so the phone should be free then." You lean up to kiss his cheek, trying not to make it obvious how nervous you really are, how fast your heart's beating.
Before he can respond, you pick your book back up--being sure to get the textbook for Mr. Jones's class--and close your locker, rushing to class. You can feel his gaze on you as you walk away and the heat in your cheeks only grows.
When you finally make it through the door, the bell rings loudly. You collapse into your seat all the way in the back, next to your best friend. "Who got you all flustered like that?" He teases and you open your book--on a random page, thanks to Steve--in front of your face to hide. "Oh c'mon, hon," He says mockingly as he lowers your book to see your eyes. "Mister Munson, please stop pestering your peers," Mr. Jones says as he walks through the doors. The ever-dramatic math teacher loves to make an entrance. "Yeah, yeah, Jonesy," Eddie rolls his eyes animatedly, and Mr. Jones puts a tally mark under 'Eddie Antics', the count now at thirty-seven. "Keep this up, Mister Munson, and you'll catch up to last year's record." "One can only dream."
Mr. Jones starts the lesson of the day and Eddie turns to you, his voice hushed, "Who was it?" You shake your head, eyes trained on the board. "Oh come on." He says, his voice a bit too loud as Mr. Jones clears his throat. Eddie apologizes quietly, his eyes not leaving your embarrassed frame. "Was it a guy? A girl?" You huff. "Really? A girl?" His eyes widen, a Cheshire-like grin overtaking his face. You give him a bored look and his face falls, "So a guy?" When you fall further into your seat he rolls his eyes. "Who was it, then? What guy thinks he's worthy of my girl?" "Your girl?" You ask with a raised eyebrow. "Yes. You're mine; I've claimed you. I'm like a cat."
You sigh exasperatedly at his antics and Mr. Jones pauses mid-sentence to add a tally mark at the sound. "What?! Really, Jonesy?" Eddie asks, pouting like a toddler who just got told no. Mr. Jones responds by continuing his lesson from where he left off and Eddie groans, leaning back in his chair until it's balanced on two legs.
You laugh quietly and look at Eddie, who has now decided that puppy-dog eyes would get you to spill--he was right. "Fine," You huff, realizing he was probably gonna hear about the kiss eventually anyway, "It was Steve." His eyes widen like saucers and the chair leans back too far, making him fall to the ground with it. Mr. Jones sighs again, adding yet another tally mark to the board; There are now thirty-nine.
"Steve?!" Eddie whisper-shouts once he gets settled again. You ignore him, writing down the equations from the board and he groans again, "Fine, ignore me all you want. I'll get answers out of you sooner or later."
βœ₯οΉ€β”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆοΉ₯βœ₯
You sigh as you pick up beer cans off the floor, keeping your steps light to not wake up the man currently passed out on the couch. You take the half-empty can from his hand and pour it out in the sink a few feet away. There really isn't enough space in these trailers. You watch the wasted money go down the drain and rub your tired eyes with your free hand. The only thing you want to do right now is lay down with a good book and read till the sun comes up, saying 'one more chapter' every time you finish one.
You don't have a chance to pick up your book as the phone's shrill ringing shakes the trailer. Your dad says something that sounds almost like a threat to the phone's life as you go to pick it up, extending the cord as far as it'll go so you can take the call in your room, the door shut. "Hello?" "Hey," the voice on the other side of the line says and you look at the clock next to your bed at the familiar sound. "Shit, I didn't realize it was already eight." "Is this a bad time? I can call back later, or you can call me when you're free?" You smile at his rambling. "No, no. We can talk now. I've just gotta keep it down so I don't wake up my dad. He's not fun to deal with when he's drunk, even less when you wake him up." "Yeah, I understand how that feels. Thankfully my parents are out of town." He mumbles something else you can't quite hear, but you aren't sure you're supposed to so you ignore it.
"Where do you live, I can drive you to school tomorrow." "No!" You wince at the loudness of your own voice, praying to whoever would listen that you didn't wake up your dad. It's not that you're ashamed of where you live, it's just that you don't want him making him feel like you're worth any less because you're not from some snooty rich area; you've heard about King Steve, what he's like. "Uhm, okay, I don't have to drive you. I just thought it'd make this ruse a bit more believable, y'know?"
"No, you're right, I'm sorry. I just... my dad might not be too pleased with a stranger pulling up to his house," You pause to think of the right words, "How about we meet at the library tomorrow morning?" "Sure thing, It'll give us time to practice our stories on the drive to school." "Stories?" You ask with a confused frown. "Yeah, like 'how we met', 'where our first date was', 'who fell first', that kinda stuff." "Are you expecting to get interrogated?" You hear him chuckle and you sigh, "We met at the fair, our first date was at the movies, and I fell first." There's silence on the other end like he's writing it down.
"Why didn't I fall first?" "You've seen me, right?" You joke, but you can hear his frown as he responds, "Yeah, and? You're gorgeous, I'd fall first any day." You feel a smile form on your face as you laugh out a response, "Thanks, but I think you can only fall first once." "My lack of grammar skills doesn't make what I said any less true." You're cheeks grow warm and you look down at your feet, "Thank you." "Of course. So, we met at the fair, our first date was--what if our first date was at the bookstore? You like books right?" "Oh, sure that works, I just thought you'd prefer the movies or something." "Cool, and then I fell first. Sound good?" "Yeah, sounds great." "Perfect, what time should we meet at the library?" You hum as you think, looking at the clock, then at your dad through the cracked door, "Does seven work? Or seven-thirty?" Based on the silence, you can tell he nodded to your question because a second later, he says, "Yeah, yup, seven works for me." "Great, well, goodnight. I'll see you tomorrow." "Oh, uh, okay. Yeah, goodnight." You frown at the sadness in his voice but before you can say anything the line cuts out.
You open your door to find your dad standing in front of the now-broken wall phone. You look down at the mess on the floor with a blank stare, drop the phone in your hand on top of the mess, and turn away to your room. "I'll pick up a new one tomorrow after school." You say as though it's second nature--it might as well be. He drunkenly mumbles something about not talking back before he collapses onto the couch. You close your door and open the window, picking up your book from your nightstand before you make your escape and hurry to Eddie's trailer next door. He opens the door before you can knock and you sit on the couch, opening your book to the page you left off at.
"So," Eddie starts, "Steve, huh?" You hum, nodding. "How'd that happen?" "We met at the fair." You hear Eddie shut the door, turning all three locks before he sits down beside you. "Where'd you go for your first date?" You huff out a laugh. You'd have to tell Steve he was right about the interrogation. "He took me to the bookstore. Now enough with the questions, please." He rolls his eyes, laying his head in your lap, prompting you to play with his hair, "Fine. I just wanna make sure you're happy. I mean, you know how douchey he was last year." "He's actually really sweet now," You say truthfully. Eddie hums, "Okay, I'll believe you." His eyes drift closed as you run your fingers through his hair, closing your book and falling asleep with your head back against the couch cushions.
βœ₯οΉ€β”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆοΉ₯βœ₯
You startle awake as Wayne walks through the trailer door, his boots are clunky and loud. "Sorry, peach, didn't mean to wake ya," He says and you shake your head, "It's all right, Wayne, I should be getting home anyway." "You sure?" You nod as you lay Eddie's head gently on the couch, "I gotta wake up kinda early tomorrow, but I'll be by to make dinner before you head to work? I was thinking lasagna?" "Sounds great, kiddo. Hey, how's Ed doin' in school?" You shrug, looking at the curly-haired slobbering mess that is your best friend, "Pretty much the same, but he has been getting better at getting to class on time, and I know for a fact he has at least one C+." Wayne lets out a sigh of relief. "That's good t'hear. I'd hate to see him miss out on life 'cause of the school system."
You open the door to leave when Wayne stops you, handing you your book before kissing the top of your head and shoving you out the door. You laugh quietly so as to not wake up the neighbors and head towards your open window.
Once inside, you close the window gently and lock it, closing your dingy blinds before crawling into bed and switching the light on your nightstand off. You close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, your lungs accustomed to the stench of alcohol and cigarettes. You start to drift off, sleep falling over you like a big dark blanket, relieving you of your duties in the real world and allowing you the comfort of your imagination.
βœ₯οΉ€β”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆβ”ˆοΉ₯βœ₯
The sound of your alarm makes you jolt awake, even as it's set to the lowest volume. You crack your neck and your knuckles before rolling out of the mess of blankets--a blanket cocoon if you will. You take a two-minute shower to avoid getting yelled at for using the hot water and wrap a towel around your body. You quickly put your hair up and brush your teeth, nearly forgetting to put on some mascara before exiting the bathroom and rushing into your room. Clothes are scattered all around and it takes you a good five minutes to find something clean to wear, even with the minuscule amount of clothes you own.
You toss on the clothes quickly, making a mental note to do laundry later, and you take your keys off the hook and run out the door. You grab your bike, leaning against the rickety railing of the stairs leading up to the trailer, and take off. Your keys jingle around in your pocket, nearly distracting you from the oncoming car.
You make it to the library with minutes to spare and you lock up your bike using the chain sitting in the front basket. You turn just in time to see Steve pulling up and you smile at the happy wave he sends your way. You wave back despite your exhaustion and greet him as he gets out of the car.
He rushes around to the passenger side, holding the door open for you with a dorky grin and you roll your eyes, "You could've just waited in the car for me." "Now what kind of fake boyfriend would I be if I didn't hold the door open for my fake girlfriend?" "You're a dork," You reply with a straight face and you swear you see a hint of pink dusting his cheeks and ears.
You get settled in the car as he comes back around the driver seat and starts the car. He makes sure your seatbelt is buckled before he puts the car in reverse and backs out of the parking spot. He pulls onto the road and turns on the radio, turning it down as he looks over at you, "How'd you sleep?" You shrug and he frowns, "Are you okay?" You stay silent for a moment, deciding if you want to tell the truth, and you nod, a smile plastered on your face. He nods at your answer and turns back to look at the road, keeping the radio turned down in case you want to talk.
"Hey," you finally speak up and he perks up, "Could you drive me to the general store after school? I need to pick something up." "Yeah, sure." You reach over to turn up the music as your favorite song plays through the speakers. You try your very hardest to not sing along and opt instead for humming along as you sway to the rhythm. Steve smiles at you and begins belting out the lyrics, forcing a laugh to leave your lips. You watch as he messes up the words, still singing his heart out with a wide smile, and you decide to join in. The car stops and suddenly you realize you're at the school. Your face heats at the people looking at you through the window.
Steve turns off the car, and with it, the music. He rushes out of the car, running to the other side, not caring how stupid he looks, before he's at your door, holding it open for you with a hand out for you to take. He pulls you to his chest and whispers in your ear, "Can I kiss you?" You nod subtly and he pulls back slightly to press his lips against yours. Your arms wrap around his neck as his hands hold your hips. You can feel the eyes of your peers, but kissing Steve almost makes that all go away.
Almost.
You first hear whispers, then giggles, then, as you pull away, opening your eyes, you can see all the people standing and gossiping and pointing and you freeze. Your heart plummets as you think of the possibilities. Was this just a joke? Was Steve in on this? You look up at the boy's face to find him scowling. Only, it's not at you. He flips off the crowd as he pulls you closer to him protectively, grabbing your backpack and your hand, and walking into the school with you in tow.
"I'm sorry," He says once you lose sight of them, "People are assholes." He lets go of your hand and your heart flutters as you realize you wish he didn't. You take the bag from his hand as he backs up slightly. "I've gotta get to class, but I'll come by yours once the bell rings, which class do you have?" You clear your throat before answering, now realizing you were just staring a his lips as he talked, "Uhm, Mrs. O'Donell, room forty-eight." He nods, looking up as though he's repeating it in his head a few times before he looks back down at you and nods. "I'll see you later, then," He says, his eyes catching on something behind you before he pulls you in for a kiss, just a peck, but still just as mindblowing as the others. You reach your hand up to feel your lips as you watch him walk away, and you know you're hooked.

The autumn air is crisp. A chill bites the cheeks of those who dare step outdoors. The trees are covered in fiery leaves, each gust of wind taking a few with it. The sky is full of grey and glum which covers the warm light of the sun. If you look closely you might find a few rays casting down on the rolling hills of green and beige.
Wisps of smoke escape your mouth as you look through the trees above. You lay flat on your back atop your best friend's van, half burnt joint loosely clasped between your fingers. You let out a quiet sigh of contentment, eyes fluttering shut. You smile at the silence.
Eddie takes the blunt from your hand, inhaling deeply. He holds his breath for a moment before the smoke comes out his nose. You open your eyes once again, laughing softly at the sight. "You look like a dragon," You say. Eddie smiles in response, "Really?" You nod, "Yeah, but not like a tough one." His eyebrows furrow in confusion and faux hurt as he places a dramatic hand on his chest, "How dare you, I can be tough."
You sit up, criss-crossing your legs as you pluck the joint from his grasp with a playful roll of your eyes. "You're too cute to be tough."
The smoke leaving your nose and mouth blocks your view of the boy, his face and tips of his ears now tinged red, his heart pounding in his chest. "You think I'm cute?" He ask, attempting to sound sarcastic and unfazed. The foggy state of your mind, however, doesn't catch the way his breath hitches as your eyes lock with his, and you nod with a laugh.
"The cutest," You reply in a joking manner.
Eddie takes a swig of his drink, trying to ignore the way your thigh touches his. He opens his mouth to speak, but closes it upon further thought.
Thunder rumbles and he looks up at the sky. A few cold drops splash upon hitting his warm cheeks. Seconds later, the loud pitter-patter of the pouring rain hitting the van drowns out the beating of his own heart in his ears. He looks to you, watching in awe as you lay with a pleased smile, eyes closed as you let the water rain down, wetting your skin.
You lift your head up to look at him and you smile. His dripping hair is shielding his reddened face from the rain, full lips parted, eyes trained on you. You sit up again, letting the rain weigh down your eyelashes as you reach for Eddie's face. You pull him closer, tilting your head to the side as you lean in.
Your lips press against his and he swears his heart stops. He's frozen in shock, eyes wide. The moment you start to pull away, his hand laces itself in your hair, pulling you impossibly closer, finally letting his eyes close.
You curse your need to breathe as you're forced to pull away panting. You look into Eddie's eyes, your shock-filled gaze and bitten lips no doubt matching his. You can feel the warmth in your cheeks combating the cool breeze and icy rain.
Words aren't needed to convey the emotions flowing through you both, so instead, you press your lips together once more, allowing the autumn leaves to fall around you.

"Up next, we have Y/n Y/l/n singing an original song. Let's give it up for Y/n everybody!" The audience applauds as you walk onto the stage. You smile as you take the microphone from the owner and sit down on the small wooden stool, a small, sad smile pulling at your lips. You look out at the crowd, briefly shielding your eyes from the blinding spotlight. Your breath is heavy, your palms are getting more and more clammy with each passing second as you count the number of eyes watching you. You take a deep breath, exhaling with a sigh. Your grip on the microphone tightens slightly.
A small tune starts playing in your head and you count yourself in mentally.
"Hey, this is a story I hate," You sing into the microphone, a small ringing sounds as you wince internally, "And telling it might make me break," Tears begin forming in your eyes as his face appears in your mind. The sound of his laugh is now deafening, his charming smile is now blinding as your thoughts race. "But I'll tell it anyway."
"This chapter's about," The door to the Hideout opens and a group of five enter with smiles apparent in their voices. You look down at your lap, "How you said there was nobody else, then you got up and went to her house," The chatter stops mid-sentence and the bright lights dim slightly, allowing you to see him. "You guys always left me out," You glace at the others surrounding him and your eyes lock with the girl who now stands in your place.
"I still have the letter you wrote," You feel a tear escape your eye and you're quick to wipe it away, "When you told me that I was the only girl you'd ever want in your life," You lock eyes with Robin and Nancy and they look at you with sympathy. Robin frowns as she mouths a genuine 'sorry'. "I guess my friends were right."
You look at him once again and you feel your past try to claw at you from its prison inside your mind. You feel a sob creep up your throat as memories of the comfort he brought you hit you all at once.
Warm in his embrace, you smile, eyes peeled on the light patter of rain hitting the window. His voice speaks calmly and softly as he reads to you, lightly pressing a kiss to your head after every sentence. You look up at him with nothing but love in your eyes committing every detail of his face to your memory. If only you knew how much pain that would cost you.
"Each day goes by and each night, I cry," Your voice booms throughout the crowded bar as you pour your heart out in every word. You can feel everyone's eyes on you, yet, somehow, your eyes remain locked on the man that shattered your heart to pieces. "Somebody saw you with her last night," You can see the guilt behind his eyes as you sing. "You gave me your word, 'Don't worry 'bout her'. You might love her now, but you loved me first." Chrissy holds his hand noticeably tighter, looking up at his face to find him still staring at you.
"Said you'd never hurt me, but here we are." You close your eyes tightly as you ignore the pull of your heartstrings. Tears are now streaming down your face and your voice cracks ever so slightly.
You lay your head back against his chest as you sway under the moonlight. The van is parked beside you, playing a soft melody through the speakers. He looks down at you with a content smile, leaning down to press a dizzying kiss to your lips and you hum into it. "I love you," He whispers into your mouth and you pull back to look him in the eyes, your face heats as you look into his loving eyes. "I love you, too," You mumble back, eyes flickering down to his lips. Thunder rumbles quietly and the moonlight is covered by dark clouds as droplets cool your warm skin. You laugh quietly as he presses a plethora of kisses to your neck and the rain hits your face.
"Oh, you swore on every star," You look up at the lights above you sighing quietly into the silence. Your gaze shifts downwards back to him, "How could you be so reckless with my heart?"
He audibly clears his throat as he looks away, pulling his hand from Chrissy as he looks back at his friends for help. Steve shakes his head silently, crossing his arms over his chest as he stands in front of the door. Steve looks back up at you and nods encouragingly.
"You check in and out of my heart like a hotel," You look at him with a grateful smile and turn your gaze down to Chrissy. "And she must be perfect, oh well. I hope you both go to hell," Chrissy looks uncomfortable as she reaches for her boyfriend's hand once again, only for him to pull it back as he looks up at you pleadingly.
"I still have the letter you wrote when you told me that I was the only girl you'd ever want in your life. I guess my friends were right," Robin stands on Steve's left, Nancy on her right as they watch you pour your heart out.
"Each day goes by and each night, I cry. Somebody saw you with her last night" You remember what you felt that night; the betrayal, the jealousy. Your face morphs into that of anger as you let your mind wander.
You sit on your porch as you await his arrival. Your hair is done up and his ring hangs around your neck with a chain. Your smile fades in the hours you wait as day turns to night and you stand. You enter your house with a confused frown, rushing to the phone as it rings. You silently beg for him to be on the other line, but your heart plummets as you hear Robin's voice, sad--guilty, even. "I'm so sorry." Your ears ring as she describes what she saw and you fall to your kitchen floor, back against the wall as you drop the phone and let it hang by the short spiral cord. You let out a heart-wrenching sob and you cover your mouth with your hand, crying into it loudly.
"You gave me your word, 'Don't worry 'bout her'. You might love her now, but you loved me first," You've stopped wiping your tears, letting them flow freely down our face, only amplifying the message of your words. His eyes catch yours with a sorrowful look and you sneer at him with disgust. "Said you'd never hurt me, but here we are. Oh, you swore on every star. How could you be so reckless with my heart?"
You hit his chest repeatedly as you yell and scream. He takes your hands in his and you pull them back with hatred written into your features.
"How could you be so reckless?" You shake your head in bewilderment at how stupid you were.
You slam the door in his face with a sob, falling to your knees. He yells from the other side, begging you to listen but you don't; you cover your ears, eyes closing tightly as your try to block everything out.
"How could you be so reckless?" You raise your voice, letting out all your emotions into the last few seconds of the song.
You're numb to the cold as you stand outside in the place he first told you he loved you. You can still hear the soft melody playing, you can feel his soft hands on your waist. The moon now looks down on you with pity.
"How could you be so reckless with someone's heart?" You close your eyes tightly, feeling your last few tears slip out; the last you'll ever shed for him. You look down at your lap, wiping your dampened cheeks with your sweater's sleeve.
"Hey, this is a story I hate," You look back at him one last time, disappointment evident in your harsh gaze, "But I told it to cope with the pain," You let out a hopeless chuckle, looking around at the crowd as you sing the final words, "I'm so sorry if you can relate." You let out a sigh and the audience begins to applaud, cheering loudly for the girl that just poured her every emotion, all the pain in her heart, into her song. You smile sadly at everyone, standing from the stool and walking to the bar with your head down.
You glance at the door and see Eddie finally push past Steve and exit the small bar, Chrissy hot on his tail. Robin and Nancy both join you at the bar and Steve sends one last mean look to Eddie before sitting beside you, kissing the top of your head in congratulations.

Sitting at the counter, drink in hand, Y/n swayed to the holiday melodies that echoed throughout The Hideout. She let out a sigh as she looked around the bar, still searching in hopes of finding her date. The stars shined through the tinted, frosted windows as snow fell just outside in the biting cold. She stood tiredly, placing a twenty on the counter top as she picked up her bag and walked toward the door slowly. As she got closer to the door, a familiar tune began.
She smiled sadly, singing along to the words the woman spoke, "I really can't stay." "Baby, it's cold outside." A smooth, familiar voice sang. She shook the thought from her mind as she continued for the door, still humming the words, "I've got to go away." "Baby, it's cold outside." A strum of a guitar rang out through the bar.
"This evening has been," She continued, the bar now suddenly silent, save for the music. The unsettling feeling of eyes on her gave her goosebumps. "Hoping that you'd drop in." The voice caused a shiver to run down her spine and just as she was about to reach for the door, she turned, her eyes locking with his. "So, very nice." Her shoulders dropped in tension as she held his gaze.
"I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice." He smiled at her, holding his hand out in her direction.
"My mother will start to worry." She said, a small teasing smile placed upon her lips as she looked back at the door, taking another step toward the stage. "Beautiful, what's your hurry?" He laughed out, rolling his eyes as he took the microphone off the stand, walking off the stage and closer to Y/n. "My father will be pacing the floor." She looked around at the people in the bar, all eyes on the two of them, all chatter gone without a trace. "Listen to that fireplace roar." A video of a fireplace began on one of the televisions. Y/n let out a loud laugh. "So, really I'd better scurry." She said, taking the boy's outstretched hand. "Beautiful, please don't hurry." The pleading look in his eyes was genuine as he held her hand tightly in his. "But maybe just a half a drink more." She pushed away from him, motioning to the bar tender as she walked to the counter.
"I'll put some records on while I pour."
"The neighbors might think." She said as she brought the glass to her lips, leaning back against the wooden counter top. "Baby, it's bad out there." He motioned to the now open door as two shivering people entered. "Say, what's in this drink?" She smiled, holding the glass up and pressing it against his chest as she walked to a random table. "No cabs to be had out there." He grabbed her waist with his free hand when he finally reached her.
"I wish I knew how," She looked into his eyes. "Your eyes are like starlight now." Y/n smiled up at him. "To break this spell." "I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell." He leaned down, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"I ought to say, 'No, no, no sir'." She pushed him back with each 'no'. "Mind if I move in closer?" He pulled her back into him, her back turned to him, smiling into her shoulder. "At least I'm gonna say that I tried." Y/n sighed, leaning back into him and the two of them swayed gently. "What's the sense in hurting my pride?"
"I really can't stay." she pulled away from his arms, standing up on the closest empty chair nearby. "Baby, don't hold out." He followed her as she walked onto the table, his hands holding her hips as he looked up at her. "Baby, it's cold outside." The two sang together.
"Ugh, you're very pushy, you know?" She rolled her eyes, holding his cheek as she smiled down at him. "I'd like to think of it as opportunistic."
Y/n pushed him back with a hand on his forehead, stepping onto another table. "I simply must go." "Baby, it's cold outside." He walked to the table, sitting down next to her feet. "The answer is, 'No'." She said with a smirk, stepping to the next table. "But, baby, it's cold outside."
"The welcome has been," She jumped down from the table, kicking a chair at the boy. "How lucky that you dropped in." He rolled his eyes. "So nice and warm." She took a scarf from around the neck of one of the audience members, falling into the stranger's lap for a moment before she stood again. "Look out the window at that storm." He said, holding her arm.
"My sister will be suspicious." She wagged a finger at him, walking back toward the door. "Gosh, your lips look delicious." He smirked, licking his own lips. "My brother will be there at the door." She turned back to the boy, placing her hands on his chest. "Waves upon a tropical shore." "My maiden aunt's mind is vicious." He pressed a feather light kiss to the corner of her mouth. "Gosh, your lips are delicious."
"But maybe just cigarette more." She took the pack of cigarettes from his pocket, pulling one out. He shook his head, taking it from her hand. "Never such a blizzard before."
"I've got to get home." She looked back at the door again, taking a step toward it before she was brought back to his chest. "Baby, you'll freeze out there." "Say, lend me your comb?" She asked as she ran a hand through his long brow hair. "It's up to your knees out there." He smiled contently at the feeling of her hand brushing through his hair.
"You've really been grand." She smiled up at him. "I thrill when I touch your hand." He took her free hand, interlocking their fingers. "But don't you see?" "How can you do this thing to me?"
"There's bound to be talk tomorrow." The two stared into each other's eyes, the rest of the world growing fuzzy. "Think of my life-long sorrow," "At least there will be plenty implied." Their foreheads rested against each other. "If you got pneumonia and died." Their noses brushed softly. "I really can't stay" "Get over that hold out,"
"Baby, it's cold," They sang loudly into the microphone between them. "Baby, it's cold outside."
"Okay, fine, just another drink." She closed her eyes, smiling as she leaned up. "That took a lot of convincing." He spoke as their lips finally met.
He turned off the microphone and brought Y/n to the corner of the room and away from the applauding crowd. "I'm sorry I was so late, my love." She smiled, "It's alright, Eddie." She said as she brought him into a chaste kiss. "Besides," She whispered against his lips, "I think you made up for it." Eddie Laughed, kissing her again.

Y/n leaned against her locker, books in hand as she talked to Chrissy about the upcoming basketball game. She tuned to her locker, unlocking it before pulling it open. A paper fell to her feet, messily placed in an envelope, smelling of smoke and grime.
She bent down to pick it up, eyebrows furrowing at the scribbled handwriting on the back.
'Y/n Y/l/n'
Y/n looked around for anyone who could've put it there, finding it empty spare a few freshmen running to their next class in the short passing period given, Chrissy long gone. She hummed, opening the letter carefully in fear of something jumping out at her. She gently opened it, being careful as to not break the beautiful blood red wax seal on the front.
β€’
Beautiful Y/n,
Your eyes sparkle like the very stars you hung in the sky. Your hair flows elegantly as you walk down the halls.
You're laughing now. Your laugh is like the songs of the angels above, your smile bright as the sun. I admire your beauty from afar, wishing to have your heart, to hold you close, to protect you from the cruelty that is the world around your love.
My dear princess, my queen, you have my own heart. You have me. I am yours. I assure you I mean no harm, I only wish to know your love.
Forever yours,
Your Secret AdmirerοΏΌ
(p.s. check room 30)
β€’
Y/n chuckled as she looked around her once more, still finding no sign of the person that pit this letter in her locker–her secret admirer. She walked to class, her thought filled with guesses at who this could be.
She bit her nails as she watched the clock.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Finally, the bell rang. Y/n stood up, speeding out if the class to search for room 30. She passed rooms 28 and 29 before finally stumbling into the abandoned classroom. "Hello?" She asked the empty room. She sighed to herself, rolling her eyes at the prank that was played on her before she caught sight of an envelope from the corner of her eye.
She hummed, walking toward it, looking around for anyone that could possibly pop out and scare the living shit out of her. She reached for the envelope, opening it the same as the last, preserving the wax seal.
She read the note to herself, a small smile on her face.
Dearest Y/n,
Her smile grew at the words. She looked around as though she would get caught reading something so harmless.
It would seem as though you enjoy this little game, otherwise why would you be here? Obviously if you weren't here you wouldn't be reading this so I think it's safe to assume you like this.
I hope you understand the effort it took just to get myself to do this, I was really nervous.
She chuckled at the person's cuteness. Her face heating with admiration.
Now, a few things;
1. If you wish to continue this, leave your own letter here (its a classroom so im sure you'll find paper) I'll check around 4:30 to make sure we don't cross paths.
Y/n looked up at the clock, realizing it was 4:00. She grabbed a paper from her notebook, ripping it off and getting ready to write, finishing the note first.
2. Look here every Wednesday between 2:30 and 3:00 pm for more notes, You leave notes every Thursday at the same time, good? I think a schedule would be best, no? If you wanna write to me more or something, just say the word and we can make it every other day.
She made a mental note in her head, memorizing the times.
3. If you wish to know my identity, you'll have to guess for yourself. No cheating!!
She let out a snort of laughter, shaking her head as she continued the letter.
And lastly...
Let the games begin,
Your secret admirer
Y/n took out a pencil from her bag, scribbling on the lined paper messily as the clock ticked.
She folded it up, running out of the classroom with a few minutes to spare, her smile wide as she thought of who it could be.
β€’
Eddie leaned against the wall behind the corner, peaking out to look back at Y/n's locker, watching as she opened it, his letter falling to her feet.
She smiled.
That was a good sign right?
She pealed it open, pocketing the wax seal before taking out the letter, she looked around and Eddie moved back behind the wall quickly. He heard a soft chuckle and his smiled, peaking back around the wall to watch the girl with admiration.
She finished reading, looking back around her before the bell rang and she ran to her last class.
Eddie walked around the school a bit, biting his nails until the bell rang. He checked his watch, the time reading 4:00. Eddie sighed, leaning back against the wall as he waited for the 30 minutes to be up.
He heard hurried footsteps running out the school and checked his watch once more. Eddie checked his watch again, the time now 4:27. He stood straight, walking slowly to the room till his watch beeped, signaling it was 4:30. He smiled slightly, picking up the pace until he was standing in front of the door.
He took a moment to calm himself, remembering that she may have just thrown it away. He opened the door slowly, checking around the room for the girl. The room was empty except for a small, folded, lined piece of paper. He knelt down to pick it up, realizing it must've fallen off the table.
He smiled, opening it slowly as though he was afraid it would be a letter of rejection or calling him a freak–which he was used to but something told him it'd hurt more coming from her–or a creep. He took a deep breath, reading it quickly.
β€’
Hello stalker secret admirer,
Firstly, thank you for the compliments.
Secondly, I've got a few questions before we start this for real;
1. Why me? There are so many other girls here, so why did you choose me?
2. What will we talk about? Just our day? Or will we have like a secret code or something? Just wanna know if this'll be fun, y'know?
3. How is it fair that you know my identity but i can't know yours?
4. Can I ask things about you? Like your hobbies, your hair color, who you are, etc. etc.
And lastly...
Let the games begin,
You know who
(p.s. "the word" ;) )

Y/n frowned, closing her locker, securing the lock on it before walking into the cafeteria, books tight to her chest. She sat, back against the wall, feet planted on the floor with her knees curled up to her chest. She took out a granola bar from her pocket, taking a small bite as she looked at all the other students. Her messy mom hair, ratty jeans, and heavy bags under her eyes showing her struggles. She looked at the floor, sighing to herself.
Eddie stood on the table, mocking the jocks as per usual, when he caught sight of a girl sitting at a far corner of the cafeteria, away from everyone else. His smile faded as he took in her appearance, his face morphing into that of pity. He jumped down from the table, stalking toward the girl as though she were a small puppy.
She didn't seem to notice him, her eyes trained to the floor, head seemingly up in the clouds. Eddie sat beside her quietly, keeping his lips shut as he tried to keep still. His leg started bouncing after a moment and he looked to the girl to find her already looking at him with confused eyes. "Do you need something?" Her voice was more tired than her appearance. The mere thought made Eddie wince as his heart cracked a bit for this girl.
He looked down at her granola bar, reaching into his deep pocket to take out a sandwich his uncle Wayne had left on the counter for him. Wordlessly, he split the sandwich in two uneven pieces, offering her the larger one. She looked down at his hand, looking back up at his eyes, feeling at ease with the reassuring smile on his face.
She took it cautiously, taking a small bite from it. She practically groaned out in satisfaction as she took another bite, humming out a thanks. Eddie smiled at her, his crooked teeth on display as he watched her happily eat the sandwich.
She finished her half in a few bites, wiping her still-full mouth as she smiled bashfully at the long-haired boy. "Thank you." Eddie shrugged, still smiling. Y/n cleared her throat, holding out her hand. "I'm Y/n." Eddie shook her hand happily. "Eddie. You new here?" Y/n shook her head and Eddie frowned, wondering how he could've missed such a beautiful sight. "Just got back to retake senior year. Had to take almost all of last year off for... personal reasons." She hummed out smiling down at her feet. "Thanks again for the sandwich." Eddie shrugged again. "It's really not a big deal. Plus, you seem like you needed a pick-me-up." He winked, laughing playfully at the flustered expression on her face.
"What about you?" Y/n questioned, leaving Eddie confusedly blinking at her. "Are you new?" She clarified, laughing at the way Eddie's mouth opened in an 'o' shape. "Nope, failed a few classes, had to retake them. And before you judge, I swear those teachers have it out for me." He raised his hands in surrender. "I wasn't judging. We all learn at a different pace. Plus, that kinda makes us one in the same, don't ya think?" She grinned at him, making his smile grow. "Yeah... one in the same."
β€’
Y/n fumbled with her keys at the door to her trailer, attempting to open it with a bag on one hip and a purse hanging from her forearm. A van pulled up across the small dirt road of the trailer park and Y/n sped up, attempting to get inside without attracting attention from whoever was in the van.
His long hair flowed as he jumped out of the parked van, shutting it with a slam as he turned toward her, walking closer to get a better look in the darkness of the night. "Y/n?" He spoke, walking even closer. "Y/n, is that you?" Y/n turned, shoulders dropping tension at the sight of the metal head. He walked up the few steps to stand in front of her. "Hey." He smiled. "I didn't know you lived here." Y/n shrugged, looking down at the keys in her hand. "My parents kicked me out, this was the most adorable option." Eddie shook his head at her embarrassment. "Hey, I wasn't making fun of you. I live right over there." He pointed to the identical trailer.
He turned back to Y/n, looking her up and down. "You work at Benny's?" Y/n nodded slowly, realization crossing her face once she remembered her outfit. Eddie hummed, looking down at her keys. "I could help if you want." He nodded to her hand and Y/n looked up at him. "You sure?" He nodded, a smile on his face. She handed him the keys, holding up the right one as she watched him open the door. She sighed when she walked inside, kicking toys out of the way as she took off her shoes. She walked into the small kitchen, setting down the groceries, reading the note on the counter.
"Had to head home before my mom killed me, sorry!! Cynthia's asleep and fed
- Kat"
Y/n closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she rubbed her temple, nearly forgetting Eddie was there. "I'm sorry, I've been rude. Can I get you something to drink? We have orange juice, milk, and water." Eddie cleared his throat, looking down at the toys by him feet and Y/n's eyes widened. "Oh, shit, sorry. Didn't think there'd be company, didn't have time to tell Kat to pick up the toys before she left." She mumbled, bending down to pick them up herself.
"You got a younger sibling?" Eddie asked as he held her arm, stopping her from picking up the toys. Y/n shook her head, chuckling nervously. "A kid." She whispered. Eddie's eyes widened now as he coughed slightly, eyebrows raised under his bangs. "Oh." Y/n dropped the subject, kicking the toys by her feet into the living area. "You can sit if you like, just gotta empty these bags." "Oh, I'll help!" Eddie chirped as he tied his hair back into a messy bun with the hair tie on his wrist. Y/n's face grew hot as she felt insanely flustered by such a minuscule thing. Eddie smiled at her cuteness, taking the bag from her hand. "You go wash up, I'll empty this."
Y/n walked into her room as quietly as possible, smiling to herself as she thought about how adorable his bun was. She took out her pajamas, walking out of the room with as little noise as possible as she made her way to the bathroom.
She took a quick shower while Eddie worked. Shock filled her face as she saw he was done when she got out., already seated on the couch, holding up two VHS tapes. "Which one? Grease or Carrie?" Y/n smiled, taking in the moment, watching as he explained the pros and cons of each with a wide grin.
β€’
Y/n called Eddie with huff, grumbling into the phone. "Help." Eddie didn't have time to respond before the phone hang up and he sighed, walking over, hands stuffed in his pockets. He opened the door just a crack, closing it quickly as a toy was thrown his way. Y/n stood on a chair, holding a lid to a pot, hiding behind it. "She's been like this for an hour." She mumbled, pointing to the crying child on the floor, whining and throwing toys every which way. Eddie held up a finger, closing the door quickly and running back to his trailer.
He came back moments later, a guitar in hand. He strummed the acoustic lightly, a soothing melody emitting from the wood. Y/n sighed out in exhaustion as Cynthia calmed down, looking at Eddie with bright eyes. "Oh my god, I love you so much right now I could kiss you." She whispered out, rubbing her temple. Eddie chuckled, looking down at his guitar, hair covering his blushing face.
He sang softly, whispering out the words as the little girl's eyes fluttered shut slowly. Y/n stood up, wrapping her arms around his figure when the child was asleep, placing his guitar on the floor gently as she nestled into his chest. "Thank you." Eddie leaned down to kiss her head, smiling as he felt her squeeze him tighter.
β€’
Y/n groaned out, just about ready to snap her book in two as she had done to numerous pencils. Eddie walked in the library moments later, two warm coffees, a kids hot chocolate, and a pastry in hand. He set them down, motioning with his head toward a bay window, pitter pattering with the drops of rain. Cynthia came running down the halls, rushing to wrap her arms around Eddie's leg in hello.
"Well hey there, little princess." He whispered, patting her small head as she grinned up at him, the grin reminding him of Y/n. He picked up the hot chocolate, crouching down to hand it to the little girl, watching as her tiny hands wrapped around the cup. She took a small sip, giggling with glee as she ran back to the kids section, picking up her book again.
"C'mon, queeny, you need a break and I need some alone time, just the two of us." Y/n rolled her eyes, leaving the open book on the table as well as her work and bag as she stood, taking one of the coffees and the pastry before walking to the window. She sat quietly, waiting for Eddie to sit beside her as she watched the rain fall, smiling at the drops racing to the bottom. Eddie walked next to her, kissing her temple as he sat down beside her, sipping his drink happily. Y/n looked at him with a warm smile, looking down at her pastry, then back up at him.
She carefully ripped two uneven halves, offering the larger one to Eddie with kind eyes. He smiled, a faint blush covering his cheeks. He took the pastry, taking a small bite as he smiled at her, eyes flickering down to her lips. He thought silently for a moment, looking out the window as he came up with his next actions, only to get cut off by the feeling of lips on his. His eyes widened as he froze in shock, slowly easing into it as his arms wrapped around her waist gently. He smiled into the kiss, bringing one hand to hold her fade as he deepened the kiss. Her mouth tasted of the sweet pastry and the bitter coffee, creating a warm, inviting environment for his love. Eddie broke the kiss, pressing a few chaste pecks to her lips before pulling back completely, resting his forehead against hers.

Eddie screamed out in pain as the bats bit and scratched at him. His clothes were stained with his own blood, his body sore from fighting. He covered his head, curling up on the ground, hoping for the pain to end but it didn't.
The bats attacked him at every chance they got, soon proving to be too much even for as strong of a warrior as Eddie the Banished. He laid on his back, accepting his fate.
Then it stopped.
The bats fell with a screech, falling dormant on the floor. Eddie remained on his back, his body aching, losing blood by the second, leaving him dazed. He stared up at the cloudy red sky, choking lightly on his blood.
"Eddie!" He heard Dustin cry out. His mind was screaming at him to reach out for his young friend, to hold him and tell him everything's ok, he'll be ok. But his body wouldn't let him. He laid there on the ground, listening to the cries of Dustin get closer and closer, until finally his tears were wetting Eddie's blood-stained face.
He said his goodbyes, letting his eyes flutter closed. His breaths were shallow, barely noticeable. With a half conscious mind, he felt his body being dragged away until finally his mind went blank.
β€’
Eddie's blinked his eyes open slowly, the steady beep of the heart monitor faint in his ears. His head felt as though it was underwater, muffling the sounds around him. He looked down at a Dustin's head; resting in Eddie's lap as soft snores fell from his lips, a book in his hand. Eddie smiled softly at his young friend, looking around the room.
Balloons and 'get well soon' cards lined one wall, a few pictures of his face with a pentagram drawn over it peaked out of the trash. Eddie sighed, looking back down at his friend. He ran his fingers through the boy's hair softly, urging him to wake up.
Dustin groaned softly, opening his eyes and letting them adjust to the light of the room. He immediately shot up, looking at the man he so admired with wide eyes, a big grin evident on his face. "Eddie!" He yelled out in joy as he wrapped his arms around the man's neck. "I'm so glad you're ok!" Eddie winced at his touch, making Dustin pull back with a guilty look. "Sorry." He whispered.
Eddie smiled at the boy, looking at the door as it opened. Steve, Robin, Nancy, Mike, and the rest of Hellfire–except Lucas–made their way inside, teddy bears and cards in hand. Robin was the first to speak, talking about nonsense as the others shuffled in. The last to walk in was his uncle Wayne, a small homemade card in hand.
Tears filled his tired eyes as he walked to his nephew. "Hey, boy." Eddie smiled softly, sitting up slowly. He wrapped his arms around his uncle tightly, his tears wetting his shirt. Wayne's arms slowly snaked around him, holding him as he kissed the top of his head.
Eddie pulled away, coughing. His coughs sounded more like wheezes and Steve ran out to get him some water. He carefully handed it to him, watching to make sure he didn't drop it. Eddie slowly took a sip, holding it in his hands as he looked around at his friends, having never felt so loved.
"How long was I out?" He asked, his voice hoarse. "About 3 weeks." Nancy answered, giving Eddie a moment to process the information. He hummed, looking down at the paper cup. "And you guys visited me?" He asked, almost as though he didn't believe they'd care enough. Steve nodded, "Mainly Dustin and I but Nance and Rob stopped by." Eddie hummed once again. Nancy took the silence as an invitation to speak. "Uh, I get that it's probably not your biggest concern right now, but I convinced the principal to get you the stuff you missed. I was thinking I could help you work on it." Her words slowly became quiet as she spoke, shaking her head. "Never mind, it was dumb, sorry." She looked down at her feet embarrassment. "No, no. I'd appreciate it, thanks. The sooner I graduate, the sooner I can leave the hell that is high school." He chuckled.
Nancy smiled, her shoulders falling, visibly relaxed. Dustin laughed. "There he is!" He cheered as he hugged Eddie once more, this time ignoring his wince.
β€’
Eddie walked with a limp, needing help to stand from the pain in his legs and chest. He stood slowly, holding onto Dustin's outstretched arms to hoist himself to his feet. "Thanks, man." He whispered out quietly, still embarrassed about needing help to do the simplest things.
"No problem." Dustin smiled, running out to open Steve's car door for Eddie. Eddie nodded in appreciation, sliding i to the backseat slowly. "Alrighty, buckle up." Steve said, putting the car in reverse to drop off Robin, Dustin, and Eddie to high school.
"Ok, we're here, get out." Steve said as he stopped his car, looking back at Eddie. "You need help?" His voice now softer. Eddie shook his head, determined to get up on his own.
He walked around the school, ignoring the stares and whispers, as usual, walking to his locker with his head down to cover the cuts and bruises on his face. He stopped at his locker, feeling stunned by what was written on it.
'HERO' in all caps was painted vertically on the door. Flowers and 'get well' cards littered the floor. Eddie stepped around the gifts, opening his locker and putting away his books. People walked up to Eddie, patting him on the back and applauding him as he walked in between classes.
Eddie was relieved when he finally got home, tired of all the attention. He limped his way to the couch, turning on the tv as he sat down. A knock on the trailer door caught his attention. He sighed, groaning as he struggled to get up. "One second!" He called out.
Once he finally managed to get to his feet, he limped back over to the door, opening it to see who was there. "Can i help you?" He asked the girl that stood there, her eyes spaced out as she bit her nails, staring at the wall of the trailer. "Hello?" He waved at hand in front of her, getting her attention. She looked up, catching his eyes. "Oh, hi."
There was a pause, like she didn't remember what she was doing there. "Do you need something?" Her eyes went wide, nodding her head quickly. "Oh, right! Uh could you sign this? I'm trying to petition the mayor to accommodate to the less fortunate rather than the people who can buy there way out of here. I completely get it if you don't wanna sign it though, not many people do. It's just a school assignment so it doesn't really mean much I guess-"
She quickly stopped her rambling, staring at the scar on Eddie's face. "Where'd you get that from?" She reached a hand out to touch it, stopping when she noticed Eddie's shoulders hunch uncomfortably. "Sorry." She mumbled, looking down at the petition. "Y'know what, never mind, sorry to bother you." She sighed out, turning around the walk down the rickety steps, getting stopped by a hand on her wrist.
"It's ok, I'll sign it. Do you have a pen?" Y/n looked down at her hand, her eyebrows furrowing in thought. "I could've sworn I had one." She mumbled, patting her pockets, determined to find that damn pen. "I think I may have one, you're welcome to come in." He said as he walked into the small kitchen, picking up a pen from a bowl and testing it on the paper, repeating till he found one that worked. "Got it." He said as he sat next to the girl. "Ok where do I sign?" She pointed to the line on the page marked '3.'
"You want some water or something?" He asked, eyes focused on the page as he tried to keep his hand from shaking. Y/n was staring at his scar again, sitting up in her chair and moving closer, pushing Eddie's hair out of the way as she trued to get a better look. "You never said where you got it from." She whispered absentmindedly, focused on the line down the side of his face. "It's uh-" He started, pulling away from her hand, "it's kinda a hard story for me to tell. Also kinda hard to tell it without sounding completely crazy." He mumbled the last part, looking down at his lap.
Y/n smiled. "I like crazy." She touched the scar lightly, softly petting his hair. Eddie sighed, looking down at his lap, picking at his nails. "Long story or short?" His eyes stayed downward. "I have time." Y/n said as she rested her face in her palm, putting her full focus on Eddie.
β€’
Y/n walked up to Eddie's trailer nervously, biting her nails as she waited for the door to open. She watched the two kids playing makeshift soccer, giggling each time they bumped into each other. Y/n laughed with them, a small smile resting on her face.
"You have a nice smile." Eddie's voice caught her attention and she turned to face him, cheeks hot as she turned her eyes downward toward her feet. "Thanks." "C'mon in." He stepped to the side, letting her walk in before closing the door.
Y/n turned around to face Eddie with a similar smile as before, walking into his room to look for movies to watch. Eddie held up a VHS, Y/n's smile growing at the title on it. "You like The Breakfast Club?" Eddie rolled his eyes. "Of course I like it, it's amazing. Cinema at its finest." Y/n laughed, nodding in agreement.
β€’
Y/n laughed, touching Eddie's arm gently as the two walked to class. He opened the door, gesturing for her to go through before he followed after. "Ah, Ms. Y/l/n, Mr. Munson, how nice of you to join us." Mrs. Harris commented, stopping in the middle of her sentence with a raise of her eyebrow.
Y/n shared a look with Eddie, looking back at Mrs. Harris, biting her lips in attempt to stop herself from laughing. "Uh, hey, Mrs. Harris. How's it goin'?" Eddie snorted loudly, Y/n following shortly.
Eddie whined as Y/n hit him on the arm, the two of them walking to the principal's office. "I can't believe you got us in trouble." She huffed, feigning disdain. "Oh hush, you were the one who insisted on going to class. I was perfectly set on staying in my van and getting high till 3rd period was over but no." He rolled his eyes playfully. Y/n shook her head, laughing softly as she looked down at her feet.
"Y'know," She looked back up at Eddie's eyes, moving his hair out of his face and tracing his scar, "we do still have time for that." Eddie blushed, his face hot as he smiled down at the girl. "Van or forest?" Y/n hummed in thought. "How 'bout your place?" She smiled mischievously as she took off, running to his van.
"Go! Go! Go!" Y/n yelled as Eddie started the car, looking back at the school in fear of getting caught. "I'm trying, hold on!" He got the car to start, pulling out of the school parking lot quickly as he drove back to the trailer.
Y/n ran to the door, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she waited for Eddie to unlock the door, running inside as soon as he did. She jumped onto the bed, her arms and legs extended as she laid on her stomach. Eddie laughed as he walked into his room, rolling his eyes at the girl as he went to his dresser to grab out a rolled joint.
He lit it quickly, taking a drag and passing it to his friend. He watched as she did the same, closing her eyes as she let her head fall back in bliss. "Hey." He whispered, looking into her eyes as he moved closer. "Hi." Y/n smiled, moving Eddie's hair out of his face. Eddie leaned in, giving no time for second thoughts, catching her lips with his.
Their lips melded together like putty, fitting together as though they were puzzle pieces. Y/n held Eddie's face with a feather light touch, pulling him closer gently.
Eddie pulled back, frozen completely. He panicked, eyes wide as he stared at Y/n's lips. They formed a small amused smile, her eyes trying to catch his gaze. "Eddie." His name sounded so nice coming from her, catching his attention quickly. Her fingers playing with the hair around his face, rubbing his cheek softly. "Hey." She whispered, biting her bottom lip to conceal her grin. "Hi." He whispered back, completely in awe as she brought him back in for another kiss.
β€’
Y/n placed a gentle kiss to the top of Eddie's head, brushing through his hair as they watched TV. Eddie sighed, leaning his head back to look at her, smiling. "I love you." Y/n whispered. Eddie paused, sitting up and turning to look at her. "Really?" She nodded, smiling softly at the boy, placing a kiss to each cheek, peppering kissed along the scar on his face. "More than anything."
Eddie felt tears form in his eyes, swallowing the sob that threatened to leave his lips at the thought of being loved and held at such a high place as number one in someone's eyes. He smiled, hugging Y/n tightly. "I love you too." A few tears slipped from his eyes, wetting Y/n's shirt.
"Aw, baby, why are you crying?" She asked softly, kissing his tears away. "I..." He sniffled, looking up at Y/n with glassy eyes. He smiled, hiding his face in her neck. "I've just never felt this happy before." He sighed out, relaxing at the feeling of Y/n's fingers scratching his scalp.
Y/n bent down to kiss the tears off his cheeks, her hand tracing the scar on his face. She kissed his lips once, twice, the kiss slowly growing heated. Y/n stood up with Eddie, their lips remaining connected. Eddie pulled back to take off her shirt, kissing down her neck, whispering 'I love you's' against her skin.
Y/n pushed Eddie back on the bed, crawling over him, pressing open-mouthed kisses to his jaw, moving downwards toward his collar. She slowly lifted his shirt, her hands sliding underneath, only to get pushed away by Eddie. Y/n held his face in her hand, kissing the tip of his nose. "Hey, we don't have to do anything." Eddie shook his head, looking down at his lap.
"No, no, I want to it's just- I just don't want you to- I don't like-" Y/n waited patiently for him to finish his sentence, smiling comfortingly, encouragingly. "I don't want you to see the scars there. They- I don't like them." Y/n nodded in understanding, kissing his forehead and cheeks, pulling back with a smile. "Like I said, we don't have to do anything. If you didn't want me to see them, then I won't do anything, I promise." She held out her pinky, making him laughing slightly.
Eddie locked pinkies with her, looking into her eyes, finding nothing but love and sincerity in them. He looked down at her lips, capturing them in his own, pulling her back on top of him, taking off his shirt in a wave of confidence which was gone as quickly as it came. He became bashful, attempting to his his scars unsuccessfully with the amount there were. Y/n bent down, taking time to kiss each and every one of them, showing them an equal amount of love.
Coming back up, she kissed his lips, smiling into the kiss. "You're beautiful." She mumbled against his lips. Eddie smiled, chuckling. "So are you." He winked.

tbh i dont suggest listening to the song while reading bc you'll have to keep pausing which is really annoying so if you've never heard it before, listen to it before reading so you know what the tune is and if you have heard it, you're good to go

Eddie sat Y/n down on the edge of their shared bed, moving a chair to sit in front of her, guitar in hand. He looked into her eyes lovingly, smiling at the sight he knew he'd never get tired of. "Happy anniversary, my love." He said as he picked up his guitar pick, strumming away at the acoustic guitar in his hands.
I met you in the dark, you lit me up
You made me feel as though I was enough
Eddie looked around the room, feeling overwhelmed by the amount of people bow in the small pub he'd grown so fond of, celebrating the graduation of the class of '86. He walked to the bar, ordering a drink over the noise.
Y/n walked to the bar, already tired of the people around her. She walked up next to a boy with long curly hair and rings littering his hand. She smiled at his appearance. "Hey, I like your hair." She yelled over the music as she admired his curls. "Really? I was thinking of cutting it." Y/n's eyebrows furrowed. "Why would you do that? It looks awesome." Eddie looked down bashfully. "I used to get bullied for it, called a freak–well technically it wasn't just for that." He rambled, his mouth moving on its own as his mind focused on the girl before him. "Well now I have to know." Y/n rested her chin on the palm of her hand, batting her eyelashes at the man. He laughed.
"I'm in a band-" "Oh, that's not too bad." Eddie looked down at his drink, not wanting to finish and drive the girl away. "And I play DnD." Y/n shrugged after a moment. "Still don't get why they called you a freak. I mean I get that the newspapers call it devil worship and shit but they make shit up all the time, anything to get more readers." Eddie chuckled, lifting his glass to take a sip of his drink. "I wish everyone was as open minded as you." Y/n smiled. "But then what would you need me for?" She nudged him, Eddie looking down at her with fondness in his eyes. "Hey, what do you want to drink? It's on me." He winked, smiling growing wider at the sound of the girl's angelic laugh.
We danced the night away, we drank too much
Y/n stood up after her third drink, grabbing Eddie's wrist as she walked to the middle of the room. "What are you doing?" Eddie laughed out, confused. "I'm tipsy, I dance when I'm tipsy." Her words came out slightly slurred as she stumbled through the room. "C'mon, dance with me. I thought you were fun." She pouted as Eddie stood still, watching the girl in amusement. Y/n walked forward, moving Eddie's hands to her hips as her own trailed down his chest, back up to his shoulders.
"I don't even know your name and you're trying to feel me up." Y/n laughed, leaning up to his ear. "Y/n." Eddie blushed slightly. "I'm Eddie." Y/n ran her fingers through his hair, a lazy smile resting upon her face. "You have pretty eyes, Eddie." Eddie leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to her nose. Y/n pulled back, dancing a little as she tried to encourage Eddie. "Now c'mon, you know my name so dance with me." She whined. Eddie rolled his eyes, taking her hand and spinning her, swaying to the rythme of the slow music. The two stared into each other's eyes, minds clouded with the thoughts of the other.
I held your hair back when
You were throwing up
Y/n groaned, sitting up in the unfamiliar bed, holding her aching head. She looked around the room, finding herself alone, surrounded by metal posters and random knickknacks and clothes. A sizzling sound came from just outside the room, the smell of bacon carrying throughout the trailer. Y/n stood slowly, her legs feeling like jelly.
Eddie turned and smiled at the messy-haired girl walking out of his room. "How'd you sleep?" Y/n looked confused. "Where am I? You didn't kidnap me did you?" She chuckled, sitting down on a random chair. "No I didn't kidnap you." Eddie rolled his eyes. "You at my trailer, you want me to take you home?" Y/n whined, shaking her head, stopping abruptly.
Her head was spinning, her eyes going unfocused. Eddie turned to her fully, looking at her worriedly. "You ok-" He was cut off when Y/n stood up, walking quickly into the bathroom. She lifted the lit to the toilet, letting out whatever it is she ate the night before. Eddie winced at the sound, turning off the stove before walking in slowly. He knelt down next to Y/n, rubbing her back comfortingly. "Shh." He whispered in her ear, holding her hair in a makeshift ponytail. He kissed her shoulder lightly, whispering sweet nothings in her ear repeatedly.
She sat up, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, looking up st Eddie with teary eyes. "Sorry." She mumbled. "Why are you sorry?" She shrugged, looking down as Eddie ran his fingers through her hair. "Go lay down, I'll bring you some food and water." He said softly, pressing a kiss to her temple, helping her up and into his bed once more.
Then you smiled over your shoulder
For a minute, I was stone-cold sober
I pulled you closer to my chest
Eddie yawned as he woke up, hugging Y/n tighter to his chest. He placed a tiny kiss to her hair, trailing down her neck to her shoulder. "Good morning beautiful." He whispered groggily in her ear. She groaned, squeezing her eyes to stop light from slipping through the cracks.
Eddie kissed her cheeks, then her forehead, then her nose. Y/n turned her head into the pillow, making Eddie chuckle. "C'mon, love, we gotta get up." Eddie spoke quietly with his lips pressed to her bare shoulder. "Why?" Y/n whined. "Because," Eddie kneaded her thighs gently under the covers, "I have a date planned for us, remember?"
Y/n turned her head to look at him, her face puffy with sleep. She smiled softly, looking up into his eyes, letting Eddie place a chaste kiss to her lips.οΏΌ Eddie pulled back to admire her, completely smitten. He stared at her in awe, his mouth slightly agape. "You're gorgeous."
And you asked me to stay over
I said, I already told ya
I think that you should get some rest
Y/n stumbled into her room, Eddie behind her, keeping her steady. "Alright, c'mon." He mumbled, helping her onto her bed. She sat at the edge, whining as Eddie picked up her leg, taking of her shoe before moving to the other. He moved to the dresser, opening a drawer to find pajamas. "Ok what do you wanna wear?" Y/n looked up at him, thinking for a moment. "The grey ones." Eddie nodded, picking out a grey shirt and pants.
"Alright, can I take this off?" Eddie asked, his hands holding her waistband. "You can to more than that." Her face morphed into a sloppy smirk, leaning back on the bed. Eddie rolled his eyes, taking them off slowly, replacing them with the pants he grabbed.
He slid off her shirt, stopping to admire her, leaning forward to kiss her lips. Eddie unclasped her bra, looking away slightly as he put the shirt over her head.
He laid her down completely on the bed, placing the covers over her as he pressed a kiss to her forehead. Y/n snaked her hands around his neck, pulling his closer. "Stay." She whispered, her eyes fluttering closed. Eddie shook his head, pulling back. "Get some rest, my love."
He turned off the light, closing the door most of the way before walking back down the stairs and out if the house.
I knew I loved you then
But you'd never know
Eddie kissed all over Y/n's face, relishing the angelic sounds of her giggles. She grabbed his head gently, kissing him softly. Eddie deepened the kiss, Y/n's hands falling to her sides.
Eddie pulled back to look into her eyes, his face falling into a soft smile.
"What?" Y/n laughed out, furrowing her eyebrows. Eddie shook his head, lifting his hand to hold her face. "I love you."
Y/n's laughter slowed as she placed her hand over his. Her smile grew as her face grew hot. A smile took over her face as she looked into Eddie's eyes lovingly. "I love you too." Eddie smiled, tickling her sides as she leaned up to kiss her nose, biting it lightly.
'Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go
Eddie frowned, hugging Y/n tighter as the speakers announced last call for her flight. "I'll be back in a few months to visit, I promise. We can call every day." Y/n tried, pulling back to look into his sad eyes. Eddie nodded, stepping back with a sniffle. "I love you." Y/n smiled softly, kissing his nose, then cheeks, then lips. "I love you too."
She picked up her bag from the floor, wheeling her suitcase to the gate, leaving Eddie standing by himself.
Eddie sat in his car, sobbing as he rested his head on the steering wheel. He watched as what he assumed to be her flight took off, taking his love away from him. Eddie took a moment to compose himself, driving home to stare at the phone until it rang.
I know I needed you
But I never showed
Eddie held his pillow to his chest, crying into it. His room felt empty without Y/n, making his heart ache ten times worse.
The door squeaked quietly as it opened. A figure tiptoed in, setting down their bag as they sat on the edge of the bed, hearing Eddie's soft sniffles. The figure moved his hair out of his face, eyebrows furrowed in concern. Eddie looked into the familiar eyes, perking up immediately. He brought her i to a tight hug, relishing in the feeling of her warmth. "I love you." He mumbled into her neck, drowsiness taking over.
"I know, baby, I love you too." She spoke softly into his hair, pulling back gently. "Let me get changed and I'll be right back, ok?" Eddie whined but nodded, loosening his hold on Y/n as he watched her move around the room.
She got back into the bed, pulling the covers over the two of them as Eddie rested his head on her chest, holding her close. His eyes fluttered shut, content at the feeling of her hands running through his hair."
But I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Eddie took Y/n's hand, guiding her to their destination. The blindfold on Y/n's head was pulled off, revealing a picnic set up at the edge of lovers lake. She turned to him and smiled, her face morphing into that of surprise at the sight before her.
Eddie kneeled, one knee on the ground, a small box in his hand. The tux he was wearing too big for him–likely borrowed from Wayne–making him all the cuter. Tears filled Y/n's eyes as Eddie opened the box, revealing a small ring with one circular diamond in the middle.
Y/n knelt down in front of him, taking his face in her hands, bringing him into a long kiss, nodding into it, running her fingers through his curls. She pulled back, smiling at him brightly, kissing his nose before picking up the ring from the box, slipping it onto her finger.
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Y/n screamed out, squeezing Eddie's hand tighter and tighter as the nurse told her to push. She stopped, shaking her head as tears flowed down her cheeks. "I can't, I can't." She repeated, sobbing as Eddie kissed her temple comfortingly.
"It's almost over, my love. Just a little more, baby." Y/n looked into his eyes, nodding, pushing once more before finally hearing cries that weren't her own. She relaxed, closing her eyes as she laid her head back. Her eyes wide, shooting down to look at the doctor as she told her there was another.
After another few minutes of hell, Y/n took her two beautiful babies into her arms, both blessed with the big brown eyes of their father. She looked up at Eddie with a soft smile, pressing a kiss to both the little one's noses.
I'll wake you up with some breakfast in bed
I'll bring you coffee with a kiss on your head
Eddie shushed the two anxious kids as he opened the door softly, revealing a sleeping Y/n. The kids immediately ran, jumping on the bed to wake up their mother. Y/n groaned at the feeling of tiny feet trampling her, turning to shove her head in the pillow. "Wake up! Wake up!" They shouted, stopping their movements to sit next to Y/n under the covers.
Eddie walked in with an apologetic smile, leaning forward to kiss Y/n's head. "Sorry, love, told them to stay quiet but they didn't seem to listen." He rubbed the back of his neck, placing a tray full of Y/n's favorite breakfasts. Y/n sat up, looking at the meal with tired, happy eyes. "What's all this?" She yawned, tickling toddlers' stomachs. The two kids giggled, leaning up to peck her cheek simultaneously. "Happy mother's day, mama." She smiled at them, pulling them into a tight hug. "Thank you babies, I love you." She said softly as she kissed the top of each of their heads.
Eddie came back into the room, a mug of coffee and a card in hand. "Happy mother's day, beautiful." He mumbled against her lips, making the little one's screech out in disgust. "Eww!" The couple laughed against each other's lips, making a scene of kissing each other deeply.
And I'll take the kids to school
Wave them goodbye
Eddie let a tear fall down his cheek as he watched his little one's walk into the big middle school for the first time, smiling sadly at how fast they're growing up. He waved them off, his cheek missing the goodbye kisses they used to give as they went on their way.
He pulled out of the school parking lot, crying softly on the way home. He sat at the dining room table until Y/n got home from the night shift, crying in her arms. They stood like that for a while until Eddie's alarm went off to pick up the kids from school. He sniffed, pulling back to look into the eyes of his wife, smiling at her beauty. "I love you." She whispered, beating him to it. Eddie chuckled softly. "I love you more." Y/n shook her head, running her fingers through his hair. "Not possible."
And I'll thank my lucky stars for that night
Y/n sat at her home desk, typing up some emails, pausing as she rubbed her temple, struggling to keep her eyes open. She leaned back in her chair, her eyes moving to her and Eddie's wedding picture. She smiled at the memory, playing with the ring on her finger. Eddie walked in quietly, wrapping his arms around her tired frame. "Come to bed." He whispered in her ear, his voice raspy from sleep. "I'll be there in a minute, get some rest." Y/n mumbled, her eyes still on the picture.
Eddie followed her gaze, smiling at the picture on her desk. He kissed her neck lightly, turning her face to look at him. "I love you." Y/n's eyes fluttered closed as Eddie's kisses trailed down her chest. "Now come to bed." Y/n let him guid her to their shared room, falling asleep the moment her head hit the pillows. Eddie smiled down at her, kissing her forehead and getting into bed next to her, rolling over to turn off the light.
When you looked over your shoulder
For a minute, I forget that I'm older
Her fingers were pruned from how long she had been washing the dishes, scrubbing away at the mess of the dinners they ate that week. Eddie sat at the dining room table, strumming away at his guitar, writing down on his notepad every time he found something he liked. Y/n smiled at his soft humming, listening to the lyrics he added every so often.
"For a minute I forget that I'm older." He sang quietly, stopping to write it down. Y/n hummed a small tune, continuing washing the dishes as Eddie played the very same tune moments later. "Thanks, darling." Y/n looked back at him over her shoulder, the smile lines by her eyes prominent as she admired him. Eddie looked up at the feeling of her eyes, making funny faces at her to hear her laugh.
Y/n stepped away from the sink, turning it off before stopping in front of Eddie. She looked down at him, playing with his partially graying hair, staring lovingly into his eyes. "I love you." She sighed out, kissing the tip of his nose. Eddie smiled brighter, kissing her stomach, eyes looking up into Y/n's.
I wanna dance with you right now
Eddie hummed softly, taking Y/n's hand from her desk. Y/n looked up at him, slightly confused as he started dancing as she had done when they first met. Y/n laughed, standing with him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I wanna dance with you right now." He sang quietly before humming once again.
Y/n smiled against his shoulder, rocking gently. "I love you." She whispered. Eddie smiled. "I love you more." Y/n pulled back, biting his nose softly. "Not possible.
Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that everyday you'll get better
You make me feel this way somehow
Y/n turned around, clasping her necklace before patting down her dress. "How does this look?" She asked Eddie as he sat with his back against the headboard, tapping his pen against his notepad. "You look as beautiful as ever." He said as he stared at her in awe, writing down the words after a moment. Y/n kissed him on the cheek, laughing as he hid the paper from her view.
"Wish me luck." Eddie shook his head. "You won't need it, you're already the luckiest person in the world." He rolled his eyes, playfully gesturing to himself. Y/n chuckled, putting on her shoes before heading out.
I'm so in love with you
And I hope you know
Eddie read the words back over and over, smiling at the accuracy. He hummed the tune, strumming away at his guitar. With Y/n out he could finally practice the song he'd been working on for months, just past halfway done by now.
He looked at the clock on the wall after what felt like a few minutes, only to find that it'd been at least three hours. Seconds later the door opened and Y/n walked through. Her feet were sore from dancing and the lazy smile on her face suggested she had a few drinks. Eddie chuckled, standing up to take her hands in his, guiding her to their bed to rest.
Darling, your love is more than worth its weight in gold
Eddie smiled as Y/n unwrapped her gift, their matching Christmas sweaters sparkling under the Christmas lights. Their kids came home for Christmas, sitting around the coffee table as well as their partners. Y/n gasped at the small ring inside, the diamond much larger than the one on her ring finger. She looked up at Eddie with wide eyes, tears forming in them when he got down on one knee, taking the ring in his hand.
"Last time I tried this, I never got to say the speech I had planned so I thought I'd do that now." He cleared his throat, taking his wife's hand in his free one.
"Y/n, you're smile brightens my day, twinkles like the stars. Your laugh makes my day, your cries break my heart. I love you more than the sun loves the moon, so will you please do me the honor of being my wife." Eddie looked up into her eyes with all the love in the universe, he paused for a moment. "Again."
The room echoed with laughter of the people inside as Y/n nodded through the tears, holding his face to bring him into a kiss. "That was the cheesiest shit ever." Y/n laughed as she wiped her tears, stopping Eddie as he tried to take off the old ring, instead putting the new ring on her right hand.
We've come so far, my dear
Look how we've grown
And I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Eddie kissed Y/n's shoulder, listening to the soft snores she emitted as she slept. The room felt peaceful, Eddie felt calmed. He hummed the song from where he left off, picking up the notepad from the bedside table to write down the notes.
"I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old." He whispered as he wrote it, stopping once he heard movement from beside him, quickly closing the book to kiss his wife good morning.
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Y/n threw her shoes at Eddie as he walked into the room, his heart laced with guilt. He cried silent tears as he watched the love of his life sob in their shared bed. "I'm sorry." He whispered, kneeling next to ber on the bed. "I'm so sorry, my love." His voice cracked as he held her head in his hands, he kissed her forehead, hugging her tight. "I-" He started, stopping as he realized he had no excuse.
He instead sat beside his wife, crying as she curled up i to him. She sobbed softly into his neck, shaking her head. "Why?" He shook his head, running his fingers through her hair. "I don't know." He whispered.
"Do you love me?" Y/n's voice was small, her eyes looking everywhere but him. He held her face, looking into her eyes. "Of course I love you. You are the only person I will ever love, I swear. I am so sorry I ever did that to you. And I will spend the rest of my life hating myself for it. For hurting you."
Y/n looked down. She turned around, facing away from Eddie. "I don't hate you," She started, tears falling again, "I just need time to think." Eddie nodded, moving to stand. "Lay with me?" Eddie smiled sadly, laying back down, wrapping his arms around her. "Of course, my love." He kissed the shell of her ear, whispering softly. "I love you so, so much."
I wanna live with you
Even when we're ghosts
Eddie drove to the supermarket, buying a bouquet of Y/n's favorite flower, walking down the street with them in hand. He walked past an old couple, holding hands and sitting in the park, smiling at them as he realized that's what he wanted with Y/n.
He walked faster, running into the house, picking Y/n up and taking her to the couch to pepper kisses all over her face. She laughed as she pushed at his chest, smiling up at him. Eddie lifted the bouquet in between them, hiding his smile behind them. "What's this?" She took it in her hand, getting her arm pushed back against the cushion as he kissed her neck. "For you."
He kissed her lips, soft and slow, smiling against her lips. "I love you."
'Cause you were always there for me when I needed you most
Eddie whined, coughing into his elbow. The ice pack on his head was no longer cold. The thermometer on the table reading 105Β°. Y/n sighed, switching the ice pack as she sat next to him, a bowl of soup in hand. "Alright, c'mon. It'll make you feel better." Eddie pushed it away, careful not to spill any. Y/n rolled her eyes. "I already had to deal with two kids, I'm done with that. If you don't want to get better, that's your choice.
Eddie grumbled, taking the bowl, lifting the spool to blow on it before taking a sip. He hummed in delight, eating the rest in minutes. He turned to Y/n, pulling the best puppy-dog eyes he could manage, Y/n rolling her eyes and laying his head on her chest. "I'm gonna get sick you know." Eddie hummed contently, hugging her tighter. Y/n kissed his hair, laying back against the couch.
I'm gonna love you 'til
My lungs give out
Eddie huffed, bending over with his hands on his knees as he tries to regain his breath. The family went to the local park and the little ones wanted to play tag–which for some reason included Eddie. He shook his head, standing up once again. "No more, I'm out." The kids whined and groaned as Eddie walked away, sitting next to Y/n at the picnic tables.
"You're getting too old for that." Y/n smirked as she took a sip from her glass. Eddie placed a hand over his chest, feigning hurt. "I feel betrayed." He turned away from her, crossing his arms like a toddler. "Oh c'mon, you big baby." Y/n rolled her eyes, nudging Eddie with her shoulder. "It means we can spend more time together." She interlocked their fingers, resting her head on his shoulder, looking out at the family she and the man next to her built.
I promise 'til death we part like in our vows
So I wrote this song for you, now everybody knows
That it's just you and me 'til we're grey and old
Eddie and Y/n sat on the couch, cuddled up together as a movie played. He looked down at the woman he loved with everything in him, a soft smile on his face. He kissed her cheek, holding her tighter to him.
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Oh, just say you won't let go
Eddie finished, setting his guitar down, a small blush covering his cheeks. He looked down at the floor, too nervous to loom up into her eyes. Y/n smiled like she smiled when they first got engaged, like their wedding day, like when their children took their first steps, like when those same children graduated high school. She looked at him with complete and utter love in her eyes, and behind it all, pride. Pride for the man she had loved for all those years, and the many years to come.

Y/n sighs tiredly as she sits on the edge of her bed, thoughts racing as she bit her nails. She couldn't get her out if her head. Her eyes. Her hair. Her lips-
"Honey?" Her mom asked as she knocked on the door. Y/n looked up, panic in her eyes. "Oh, honey. C'mere." Her eyes softened as she walked toward her daughter, offering a gentle smile and open arms. Y/n sobbed silently into her mom's shoulder, hyperventilating. "Shh, it's ok, hun, why are you crying?" Y/n pulled away to look at her mom's face, looking down quickly after. "Hey, you can tell me anything." Y/n shook her head, sniffling as she looked around her room, avoiding her mother's gaze. "Y/n, I need you to tell me what's wrong. Did someone hurt you? Touch you?" Y/n cleared her throat, another sob itching at her throat in attempt to escape.
"No, nothing like that." Her voice barely above a whisper. "Is it a boy?" Y/n wanted to laugh. Of course that's where her head went. Y/n looked at the window, planning her escape for when this all went south. "Not exactly." Her mom placed a hand on her shoulder. "Then what is it?"
"I-" She started, her voice cracking as she felt tears flowing down her cheeks once more. "I think I like girls." Her mother barely heard her, the only implication being that her face hardened, her once soft features now angry as she stood, stepping away from her daughter. "No. I will not have my own daughter being a- a sinner." She looked at Y/n with disgust. "Out of my house." Y/n looked up at her mother with a stunned expression. "What?" "Get out or fix yourself, your choice. But I will not tolerate someone like you–like that–living in this household. Get. Out." Y/n shook her head, panic now blocking her airways as she cried. "No, mom, please." Her mother stepped closer, hatred laced in her glare.
A hand slapped across her face, whipping her head to the side at the force. "You do not get to call me that. Get out." Y/n held her face as she stood, cowering like a hurt baby dear. She walked to her dresser to pack when she was pulled back by her hair. "No, you don't get to wear anything from that dresser till you're fixed. Now leave." She stood with her arms crossed as she watched her daughter run out the door and down the stairs, picking up 50 cents as quietly as she could manage before she left.
β€’
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she typed in the familiar phone number into the machine. It rang a few times before she answered the phone.
"Hello?"
Y/n didn't reply, words caught in her throat. The voice repeated a few times before Y/n let out a quiet sob, whispering into the payphone, "Hi."
"Y/n? Y/n is that you? What happened? Are you ok?" Robin's voice grew louder with each question, worried for her friend. "I," Y/n started, wiping a tear from her cheek, "I don't know." She took a shaking breath, looking around her. "Can- uh- can I come over?" Robin was quick to answer, "Yes, Yeah of course!" Y/n nodded, clearing her throat. "Th-thanks." She hung up the phone, leaning against it for a moment.
She walked with her hands in her pants pockets, wishing she had grabbed a jacket on her way out as a breeze blew by. She knew she looked a mess, it was even more apparent by the stares she received from her neighbors.
β€’
She knocked on Robin's door, so light Robin wouldn't have heard it if she weren't listening for it. She opened the door quickly, bringing Y/n into a hug as she brought her inside. "Are you ok? What happened?"
Y/n cried once more, feeling comforted in her best friend's arms. "Hey, look at me." Robin spoke quietly, tilting Y/n's face up gently. "Tell me what happened." Y/n's eyes fell to Robin's lips, so close her her own, Y/n's face heating as she looked away. "My mom kicked me out. She-" Her head fell to loom down at her lap. "She called me a sinner." Robin froze, eyes angry at the woman that called the angel next to her a sinner. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to comfort her friend before she marched to her house to beat the shit out of that bitch. "Why?"
Y/n was now hyper aware of Robin–how close she was, how their legs were nearly touching, how Robin's hand was holding her arm with the lightest touch. "I told her," Y/n paused, looking into Robin's eyes for a brief moment, looking back down at her lap to whisper the rest, "I told her I like girls." Robin swore her heart stopped, eyes wide as she felt the world around the her slow. "Wh-what?" She stuttered, internally hitting herself for sounding so dumb.
Y/n felt tears prick at her eyes once again. "I- I'll just go, you- uhm, you never have to talk to me again, I'm sorry." She spoke almost too quickly for Robin to understand as she stood from her spot on the couch, walking toward the door–almost. "What? No, Y/n." Robin's fingers wrapped around the girl's wrist, pulling her back. "Why would I ever stop talking to you?" Y/n looked at her lips, heart beating out of her chest as all rational thoughts stopped.
Y/n pressed her lips against Robin's, a soft hand on Robin's cheek. Y/n pulled back, noticing her friend's frozen stance. "Shit, I'm sorry." Y/n blinked away the tears as she reached for the door again. Robin woke from her trance, pulling Y/n back in to kiss her, a small smile forming as the kiss grew deeper. Y/n's hands now tangled in Robin's hair, Robin's hands on her waist. They pulled back at the sound of dishes falling, turning to see Robin's mother standing there with wide eyes as she stared at the two girls, broken plates and cookie crumbs as her feet.
Robin's mom froze, trying to comprehend what happened as she took a deep breath. She slowly bent down to pick up the larger pieces of the plate, walking back into the kitchen. "Don't walk here without shoes, girls. I'll get started in dinner." Her voice sounded stunned, slippers crunching as she walked back to the stove.
Robin turned to Y/n, face beet red. Y/n smiled shyly, looking down at her shoes. Robin hummed in thought, making Y/n look up i to her eyes. "What?" Robin shook her head. "It's dumb." Y/n touched her arm gently. "What is it?" "I've been wanting to do that for years." Robin admitted, chuckling nervously.
Y/n held Robin's face, kissing her red cheeks, then her nose, then her forehead, before finally making her way back to the girl's lips, savoring the sweet taste of her chapstick. They pulled away, smiling overtaking their features as they interlocked hands. "I'm glad." Robin bumped their noses together, lips nearly touching again. "You wanna go rent a movie? We can eat junk food and cuddle." She mumbled the last part, nibbling at her lip slightly. "I'd like that." Y/n whispered back, running her fingers through Robin's hair. She brought her in for one last kiss, this time messier as the two beamed.
