Jack had been warned to be careful when it came to the Nightmares. "Do not go after them alone," he had been warned, "they may just be bad dreams, but they are also Pitch Black's creations!" Jack took it in a stride. He'd handled Nightmares before, he had fought possibly hundreds at the Easter Battle! What was one single Nightmare going to do?

He had landed on its back, confident that he could freeze it if things got too far. But as it had bucked and jumped, he lost the grip on his staff, and while he could use his powers without it, he still felt a surge of unease if it got out of his sight. It was this shock of losing his staff that the Nightmare used against him, tendrils of black sand suddenly wrapping around his legs, and keeping him 'saddled' on the Nightmare's back as it suddenly took off.

As the ride went on, it went faster and faster, and he found himself instinctively clinging to the ribbon-like mane, even as the tendrils of it wrapped around his wrists, tightening when he realized they were heading towards a cliff towards the ocean! He shouted, crying out in hope of one of his fellow Guardians hearing him! Sandy, Bunny, anybody!

And then the Nightmare jumped. It felt as though the world slowed down, the wind shrieking in Jack's ears, the waves roaring against the cliffs...

He barely heard the crash as they hit the water, and his mouth and throat filled with saltwater.

It's cold... was all Jack could think, his body trapped against the Nightmare as it began to swim into the deeper, darker depths.
