Y’know I just REALLY hate the way Blossomfall is girlbossified by the fandom. The way she treated Briarlight throughout OOTS and even MADE FUN OF HER DISABILITY in the tunnels is so awful but everyone would much rather care about the able bodied than the disabled.
Yeah it’s uhhh…. Yikes. I’m okay with ppl liking her as a character (although I don't get it she’s written pretty poorly but it’s not ableist) but when people try to defend her actions it’s definitely a red flag.

The only way I could EVER see a "Briarlight walks again" AU is if, and only if, it actually explores what it means for her, and the difficulties involved. Like, the physical therapy, the amount of atrophy her muscles would have gone through, the fact that she'll still probably never get sensation back in certain areas, and so on. (It COULD work, but it would have to be handed really, really carefully. And I'm not the type of person who's qualified to write something like that.)
I think it’d be nice to portray a story like that, but instead of making it Briarlight you could have another canonically abled cat become paralyzed and recover, like maybe when Shrewpaw is hit by the car it doesn’t kill him, but it does breaks his spine, and he later recovers through physical therapy and regains the ability to walk, or something like that. More representation instead of less.

I was thinking coming back to tumble and posting more AU and headcanon content that is too long for Twitter so I thought I could start with answering this question I got.
Tumblr media
It’s important here to remember that disability is a spectrum that can affect people in a multitude of ways. More severe disabilities are often less palatable to an abled bodied audience, so they don’t get represented that much.
It’s also important to remember that a disability is not just a health condition, here is the definition of disability according to the ADA
Tumblr media
So, when someone “allows” a disabled cat to be a warrior they often make their disability significantly less restrictive sometimes to the point where they cannot even be considered disabled. Especially wen you go into it intending to fix the poor representation in Warriors and you make disabled characters less disabled you are saying that people with more severe disabilities cannot be good representations, while also just straight-up erasing our representation and saying the series would be better without us.  Disabled cats in Warriors not being able to hunt, fight, climb trees, whatever, is NOT ableist because in real life disabled people cannot do everything abled bodied people can, that’s what makes us disabled. What’s ableist in Warriors is how OTHER CATS treat disabled characters, how they compare Briarlight to “half dead fresh-kill” and are constantly pitying and infantilizing her. The narrative also often centres the feelings abled-bodied cats in regards to disabled characters, the books go on and on about how Briarlight’s disability freaks other people out, or how sad and heartbreaking snowkit’s death is, or how bad Leafpool feeels about Jayfeather being blind.
I don’t have any issue with disabled cats being Warriors as long as they are still just as disabled as they are in canon, if Jayfeather decides to help patrols track down prey and mark borders instead of treating sickness in the medicine den that is fine with me because he is just as blind as before.  and just because I know someone will say it, I don’t care what real blind or paralyzed cats of any real cats can do because warrior cats is NOT realistic anyways, Lionblaze practically bench presses a tree and they perform amputations with rocks, and what’s more important representing cat biology is a book that clearly doesn’t care about cat biology or keeping the representation of real disabled people intact?

Our new feathered friend is a Red-tailed Hawk, and they can catch and eat cats! This lovely lady does have an exaggerated wingspan, but I just thought it looked cool.

Reminding you all that this map is ableist and depicts graphic torture and torment of disabled characters
Examples: Tawny somehow finds Brightheart's fucking eye and leaves it in her nest, she leaves Snowkit's skeleton in Speckletail's nest, she specifically targets disabled characters with only a few exceptions (Cloudtail)
Snowkit's mother, longtail, brightheart, cinderpelt, the list goes on. Yeah it's bad that this person is being cyber-bullied but I really don't have sympathy for someone who decides to depict literal fucking torture towards disabled characters. Also, mind you, their "apology" is insincere and scummy as hell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^ the correct way to apologize is to discontinue the map and remove those participating. It's not that hard to understand.
examples of just how little these people care
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey warriors community, fucking do something please, I'm so tired of this stuff and I'm pissed off!! So sorry that my emotions took over during this!

I don’t rlly post here much anymore, but Im still happy to answer questions like these and give my two cents:
Mental illnesses can totally fit the social model of disability! Coincidentally, I also have PTSD and I would have considered it a disability a year ago before I did some intensively DBT because it made me unable to attend school even when my pain level was low. The only reason why I made such a distinct difference between physical and mental disabilities on my Twitter post was because I was only talking about physically disabled characters, and I’ve seen a lot of neurodivergent and mentally ill people speak over physically disabled people in that particular conversation without acknowledging the crucial differences. In pretty much any other context you do not need to disclose your specific disability, if other people assume you have a physical disability that’s on them, nobody should be assuming that kind of stuff anyways. However when we’re having discussion within the disabled community it’s important to differentiate different experiences so we can address issues appropriately, but you never have to be super engaged with those discusssions.
You have every right to call yourself disabled due to your PTSD, and other people are not entitled to any personal info what so ever. However, if you still wish to be more specific “mentally disabled” would also apply, although I am not an expert I’m just some angry teenaged girl on the internet.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me, anon, I hope this helped. Always feel free to DM me on Twitter if you wanna talk more about this stuff and feel comfortable doing so. You could also dm me here but I don’t check Tumblr as often.

I’ve been listening to The New Prophecy audio books so here is Tawnypelt and Brambleclaw! I’ve just started Dawn and so far Brambleclaw is actually likeable and an okay dude?? He’s stubborn and can be a bit of a know-it-all but he means well and he cares about his friends so much!! I know he’s awful later on but Erins what happened??
Tawnypelt on the other hand, I love her, she’s become one of my favourites. She’s got mad autistic energy and idk why I’ve never seen anyone headcanon her as such?? She comes in dropping some weird philosophy onto Brambleclaw the first scene she’s in and then continues to make sometimes off-putting observations, but she just doesn’t seem like the type of person to enjoy conflict? A lot of the times she doesn’t seem to understand why the other journey cats are bickering, and is very set on their objective above all else. Whenever her expressions are described it’s either her body or her eyes, her voice is even noted to be calm in pretty emotional scenes. She also had a special spot she went to calm down in Shadowclan territory and had told Brambleclaw enough about it that he could find it without ever having been there. She also says that the other journey cats are fighting because of the noise of the waterfall- and expresses that it really bothers her and that she feels like she ““cannot think” which is textbook overstimulation. Anyways I love her.

🌌 for the ask game?
🌌Twilight - Favourite ship and least favourite ship
I can’t choose just one so I’ll do top three in no particular order
Fernsong x Ivypool: this ship is the one thing standing between Warriors and complete misogyny (/hj). All their canon interactions are 10/10 Fernsong sees the best in Ivypool and rlly admires her and its clear that Ivypool rlly loves being around him even if she’s too prickly to admit it. But I also headcanon Fernsong as autistic, he prefers doing jobs in camp like helping the medicine cats and queens rather than hunting or fighting cause he finds it confusing and/or over stimulating while Ivypool I headcanon as having PTSD so she likes to patrol and hunt but can’t a lot of the time because she gets distressed and paranoid, so Fernsong accompanies her while she does her duties and does grounding exercises with her if needed, so they’re a rlly good team!! I also think Fernsong’s relationship with Lionblaze has a lot of potential regarding his relationship since I can’t imagine Ivypool likes Lionblaze very much given that he was totally on board with keeping her in an abusive situation as a child for the greater good even though he could’ve done it himself because he is literally invisible and defeating the dark forest is the reason why he had super powers in the first place. (Sorry Lionblaze lowkey pisses me off)
Feathertail x Sasha: read A Shadow in Riverclan and look me in the eyes and tell me they were not girlfriends. I love the trope of two individually troubled people finding eachother and loving eachother despite their pain so much and I think they could’ve worked things out if Feathertail didn’t die, she forgave Leapordstar she def would’ve forgave Sasha, also I understand why she was mad at her, even though it wasn’t justified I think it makes sense given Feathertail’s mental state. I also rlly like how you can actually see how their relationship developes, it’s not instant and you can understand WHY they like each other so much. I wish Feathertail hadn’t died, I wouldve traded Brambleclaw POV for Feathertail POV in a HEARTBEAT. I think Sasha might have stayed if Feathertail was still in Riverclan when she returned, after understanding her trauma more I def think Feathertail would have forgave and apologizing to Sasha. Seeing Sasha and Feathertail’s interact with Hawkfrost would have also been very interesting and could have fleshed him out more.
Grasspelt x Briarlight: I got another AU coming up that has to do with them, so I wont give to much away but I love the idea that indivually Grasspelt and Briarlight are both very smart and admirable cats but then when they get within 5 feet of eachother they both become goofy mushy idiots. I know Grasspelt is like a very minor side character so I’ve just given him a personality myself but just let me have this ok I am tired. They’d also make great parents!! I headcanon Grasspelt as autistic and I like to think he infodumps about how incredible Briarlight is- he is completely and unapoligetically in love with her and she thinks he’s a wonderful cat he lights up her life.
Least favourites:
Im not gonna include any of the obvouisly bad ships like firetiger or other shit like that, just assume all the pedophelic and abusive ships are also my least favourite, ok?
Daisy x Spiderleg: why did they feel the need to do Daisy like this?? What was the point??? I get that those types of relationships happen I’ll but I don’t see why you’d include it in the book if it wasn’t going to have any type of meaning beyond Leafpool being mad at Spiderleg. They could have still had that happen and then had Daisy get a mate that treats her right, I just feel bad at her.
Bumblestripe x Dovewing: Bumblestripe is such a pick me and their relationship reminds me a lot of a past friendship of mine that did not end well. Dovewing deserves better Bumblestripe is manipulative as hell and I feel like he takes advantage of Dovewing’s kind nature. I am so glad she left his pathetic ass, I rlly hope he doesn’t get a mate in the future and I am convinced Rosepeta’s crush on him was comp-het or something cause she must have some taste. I understand why Ivypool was for Bumblestripe and Dovewing’s relationship, she was still totally in the wrong and doesn’t deserve to be completely excused but it makes sense given her character, she’s been denied any agency for a rlly long time, Hawkfrost was her best friend and he treated her just as shitty as Bumblestripe treated Dovewing- so she’s less likely to see the red flags as they’ve been normalized to her. Everyone else though?? I have no idea why they told Dovewing to get with Bumblestripe he literally sucks so much. I think it should have just been Ivypool who said that cause it makes me dislike everyone else lmao.
Blossomfall x Ivypool: Blossomfall is mean to her as an apprentice and compares her to Dovepaw which fuels Ivypaw and Dovepaw’s unhealthy relationship, and then the only reason why they become friends is that Blossomfall gets sympathy from Ivypool and that strikes me as p toxic and unhealthy, obv if someone were to make an AU or headcanon where their relationship plays out differently than that’d be totally fine but in canon I just can’t see them doing anything but dragging eachother down- also Blossomfall is mean to Dovewing and Ivypool and Dovewing’s relationship is already strained as hell that would be very counterproductive.

🍃 &/or 🌩 for the ask game?
🍃Into the Wild - Favourite prophecy/omen  “Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red.” is the only one that sounds cool imo, but the meaning is still p obvious once you start reading imo they should’ve had Tawnypelt and Mothwing more involved and then done some kind of bait and switch with who was gonna kill who- instead of just having Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw fuck around for a whole book.
🌩Rising Storm - Favourite family relationship (parent-kit, siblings etc)
Imo Dovewing and Ivypool’s relationship is the best thematically cause it’s downward spiral shows how both sisters were denied personal agency and how the adults in their lives with using them for a “greater purpose” and to achieve said greater purpose they had to sacrifice their childhoods and sisterhood. I think it’s rlly heart breaking how you can still see the affects of the dark forest in how Ivypool thinks about their relationship, and how Dovewing is now left scrambling to put the pieces back together- even though they defeated the dark forest the damage will most likely last forever, I like that a lot, I think it’s a lot more interesting and impactful than if they had just became best friends again after the great battle.

💧 ooga booga I’m coming to eat u
I love it when y’all send me weird shit like this my entire day is made
💧The Raging Storm - a character who literally does not need to exist like all of Blossomfall and Thornclaw’s kits beside Stemleaf I can’t even name any of them- who are they??? I don’t understand why Blossomfall and Thornclaw needed to have kits in the first place- Thornclaw is ancient and Blossomfall never struck me as the motherly type she’s like- kinda mean. They didnt need to give Stemleaf parents imo, it would avoid a lot of incest if they just plopped in some side characters between series.

ah i probably should have been clearer but yeah i have seen people defending the name as not that big of a deal and it often came from the same people who would hate other characters for much less (like hating jayfeather for apparently complaining too much about his treatment) and i understand that it isn’t the worst thing but when combined with a broader look at the communities treatment of disabled characters it really bugs me
Ah I see! I’ve also seen ppl say that about Jayfeather and it rlly bugs me cause his attitude is a direct result of being forced to live in a society that sees him as inherently inadequate and shows no sign of changing even after her literally helped save their asses. I am not a huge Jayfeather fan but I’d be pissed to. The way that the canon books treat Jayfeather‘s constant bitterness as treated as a quirky personality trait rather than a symptom of oppression irks me tbh.

i still think about how people really let bluestar off the hook for the lostface situation. i’m not surprised at all considering the standard of ableism but i’m still not going to forget about it. the flawed character argument can only extend so far and while i’m not saying people can’t like bluestar i just think not enough bluestar fans acknowledge that as a problem
I actually don’t rlly have a problem with that, it was framed as bad, and I haven’t actually seen anybody defend it? the books made a rlly clear point of it being bad and ableist, and we actually got to see how it affected Brightheart negatively (compared to Blossomfall’s hatred of Briarlight, which we never get Briarlight’s take on, and instead it’s made to look like a victimless crime.) Also Bluestar herself was shown to be mentally ill, she didn’t have the same reasoning and empathizing abilities as other cats at that point. The problem with Millie is that she is framed as a good mother to Briarlight, and only a bad mother when she’s snapping at Blossomfall, which suggests that Blossomfall only deserves to be treated better because she is able bodied, while nobody can expect her to not abuse Briarlight- and the fandom echos this sentiment.

People are so unshy about saying that we are lesser and that it would be merciful to kill us. Then they think we should be perfectly ok with that? Because we are incapable of higher thought or something?
Like they literally compare us to CATTLE and other livestock all the time. They even have the audacity to admit they care about the animals more and would rather prevent a cow being butchered then a disabled person. I really wish I could punch people through the screen sometimes.
I hear you, Anon. Sometimes I just like- want a break from the world, like I dont wanna die or anything but I think I need a vacation, I think we all do. Its also rlly frustrating that we’re left out of most conversations about equality even though we don’t have equal pay, marriage equality, reproductive rights, we’re constantly getting murdered, etc. We‘re also just completely denied either if human interaction and representation while instead being objectivified for inspiration porn or mocked for able ppl’s entertainment. Also people literally expect us to live the rest of our lives feeling sad and worthless because of our disability- like no bestie I got shit to do. I critique the ableism warrior cats and it’s fandom because PERHAPS people may actually begin to change their behaviour, maybe there’ll be a little less shitty ableist content made. I can never change any of the bigger issues- Its very likely that I’ll live the rest of my life without ever being seen as anything close to equal by society at large. But maybe I can make the warrior cats fandom a little bit nicer, maybe that can be my vacation.

I don’t think able bodied people realize how insufferable it is how, when it comes to situations with disabled characters in family settings, people will consider the feelings of everyone but the disabled person. I’m tired of ableds thinking that disabled people owe them sympathy for being at all affected by their being disabled
The fact that ppl will hate Millie and call her abusive for scolding Blossomfall (which WAS wrong of her, she manipulated Blossomfall into playing into the abuse) but then see her ongoing emotional abuse and degregation of Briarlight as “the best she could do” even aftee Briarlight ended up neglecting her own health to the point of death pretty much says all you need to know about what able bodied ppl think :/
