“Watch the legos!” Zander calls from where he was sprawled out on the floor in the lounge when he hears the door open. “You can help me build if you’d like, but make sure you have shoes on. I don’t have to tell you how much a lego in the foot fucking hurts.” This was his version of stress-relief. After everything that’d gone on the past few weeks, he needed the escape. 

calliope had emerged from her room, mostly to get food, though she only settled for a smoothie, to which she lost her appetite for on her walk back. her eyes widening at the warning, her gaze going to the floor, seeing it covered in legos, “what are you building?” she asks, gently sweeping the legos to the side, out of her way, so she didn’t step on them, lazily holding the smoothie as she stood idle.

calliope had been keeping a low profile, her energy low and mood dark, she felt like a ghost of herself, not that she really knew who she was anyways. taking a moment to enjoy the crisp air, sitting at the fountain, a comfort to her, being outside, near water, completely tuned out to the world around her. her eyes fluttering in the direction of the question, a foolish question, “there’s not a fountain that could grant any of my wishes” her eyes falling to the fountain, “save your money”

Maddie’s eyes widened after a while, she finally remembered what Callie’d told her back then. Confused, she quietly gasped. “Wait, is he alive?” Or was Callie simply hallucinating when she thought she’d seen him? Some drugs would do that to you. She leaned forward, curious, looked at her friend. “Sure I will.” Maddie responded without a second though. “I am.. just… super confused right now.”

“i don’t know” callie says exasperated, she truly felt like was losing her mind, running her fingers through her aimlessly, memories of the past flooding to her mind, “the last time i saw him, we did some questionable drugs” obviously, she woke up in the hospital, “i didn’t get to exactly say goodbye you know?” a gentle bounce came to her knee as she tried ground herself to this reality, her mind racing of possibilities of what could be, “i was his muse” she confirms, her eyes softening as her emotions dared to emerge, “ i just, have to know, if that’s his song...” she tells her, not sure if anything she said made sense or made maddie any less confused, “i know he’s not alive, that’s crazy, but it could be his song” he had a lot of friends, maybe he played the song for someone in their band, and they kept it because he died, she didn’t know, but she needed to find out.

Fingers lightly gripping the barre, Alek lowered into a grand plié, peering at herself endlessly in the mirror ahead of her when she did; examining her posture, focusing on keeping it just right. It wasn’t uncommon for the girl to be practicing even hours after her final class had ended. Maintaining her status among Luxor’s company had been her top priority since transferring, and despite everything else going on in her life, perhaps in spite of it, that wasn’t going to change.

It was only the sound of the studio door opening that Alek’s focus was broken. Releasing the barre from her grip, she turned her head back, spotting Callie once she did. She remained silent. Unsure if she even wanted to speak with her after their last encounter. It was true that Alek had missed Callie but she had also realized that what she missed was something Callie wasn’t even able to provide her at this time in the first place. 

Keeping her eyes on Callie for a few seconds, Alek’s focus only turned back into the studio when she realized that Callie had been studying it. She peered around, almost as though to try and see it through Callie’s eyes. It had been years since the two of them had been in a studio together. Alek could only imagine what sort of thoughts… emotions Callie must have been having. Callie’s words broke their silence, and their little moment of studying the studio together and Alek pulled her eyes back to her. She peered at her solemnly, finding herself missing the very days Callie was referring to. “Yeah..” she said softly, turning her gaze back through the room momentarily, almost as though to try and see it as the studio they had classes in back in New York City. Blinking the visualization out of her eyes, she turned her gaze back to Callie once more. Her lips pulled into a subtle grin though, she didn’t find anything else to say to her.

talking about her feelings was never calliope’s strong suit, feelings weren’t encouraged for the young girl, feelings were a sign of weakness; if she was going to be the best, feelings had no place. her eyes reluctantly left the room as they returned to alek, it was time to address the elephant in the room.

letting out a deep breath now, “i-how are you? how have you been?” callie cautiously approaches, inching herself closer to her friend, watching herself from the corner of her eye in the mirror of the studio, a yearning to grace her muscle memory, an itch to dance it out, to be completely vulnerable in her own art, yet, she remained still, her feet barely lifting off the floor, terrified to embrace all that she’s been walking away from.
