okay. i have seen barbie and oppenheimer. if you’re gonna jump on the barieheimer meme train i do fully and completely believe that they should be watched as a trio with asteroid city, which also just came out—it bridges the other two in some really unexpected lovely ways (and! it’s wes anderson!)
someone asked me which one i Liked the most and i can’t answer that. barbie was the most straightforward fun to watch but hasn’t stuck with me; oppenheimer was compelling as all hell and has given me a lot to research/think on; asteroid city hit the strongest personal note and is the only one i would jump to watch again.

"average us president is indicted on 1.54 felony counts" factoid actualy just statistical error. average president is indicted on 0 felony counts. Spiders Don, who lives in cave in florida & is indicted on 71 felony counts, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

TV Executives: “if the strike goes on, you won’t get new episodes of your favorite shows! You won’t get new movies you were looking forward to! Isn’t that terrible, what the writers are doing to you?”
Me: Bitch, that might have been an effective threat in 2007, but we have since survived a Covid shutdown and discovered ways to amuse ourselves while we waited, we can outwait this shit, too. I got a pile of shows saved I haven’t even watched yet, and a Mt. TBR waiting for me.
Compensate (and respect) your writers for their work, assholes.

Turns out, 2000 was 20 years ago. Which is odd, since 1980 was also.

So Andrew Tate just got arrested after starting (and losing) twitter-beef with climate activist Greta Thunberg???
The beginning:
Tumblr media
Greta’s reply (that at the moment of my post has 2.9million likes, making it the 22nd most liked tweet ever):
Tumblr media
A few hours after this, Tate replies with a cringe video where you can see pizza boxes. These pizza boxes are from a Romanian pizza chain, which was used by the Romanian anti-organized crime agency DIICOT to confirm that he and his brother was in the country so they could raid his house and arrest them on charges of human trafficking.
Tumblr media
In short: he picked a twitter-fight with a 19yo, got ratioed into oblivion, posted cringe, doxxed himself and got arrested. Amazing stuff.

I loved all of the celebrity cameos and name-dropping in Glass Onion, but the more I think about it, the more I realize how it plays into the characterization of Miles and Blanc.
Miles keeps mentioning how he has hired people like Gillian Flynn, Philip Glass, Banksy, etc. to create things for him. And we get to see how Serena Williams is on-call as a personal trainer for his guests. But...
When Blanc quickly solved the mystery game Miles had set up, my first thought was that it was really contrived and not well-crafted. The Hourly Dong was minimalistic, yes, but not Glass-like. As for the Piece-of-Shit dock, it didn’t seem very Bansky-ish (at least to me). It looked more like a generic ice sculpture than anything - interesting at first glance, but not really much beyond that.
Then, we have Serena Williams literally phoning it in as a personal trainer. She’s content to sit there and read, as she’s getting paid whether or not she actually does any training.
Miles is quick to drop these names as if all of these talented people are part of his entourage, but the quality of their work-for-hire demonstrates that they don’t give a shit about him and/or actively dislike him.
In sharp contrast, we have Blanc, who is actually close friends with people like Angela Lansbury, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, etc. These people are close enough to him to play online games with him and worry about his well-being. In fact, they’re good enough friends that Blanc’s partner can complain to them about how Blanc hasn’t left the bath for a week.
All in all, it’s a little thing in the grand scheme of the movie, but it does show just how much thought has gone into the characterization of the two male leads.

in a lot of ways, benoit blanc is a love letter to the eccentric detective trope, right? but I think he gets what a lot of other characters who try to fit that archetype don't: he is a very caring person who wants to help people.
the original Sherlock Holmes stories, everything with poirot- the two most famous eccentric detectives. both of them go out of their way to help people, even if it won't help them solve the case.
so benoit blanc's willingness to help strangers, concoct crazy plans, and how he will always help someone who's scared or in emotional distress is a key part of the character type that im glad they kept.
it also sets up the female leads very well- at the end of each movie, we follow them more then blanc, and see how his kindness to them allows them to complete their story and get what they need.

Everybody's out here talking about how Rian Johnson made Glass Onion so that he could dunk on Elon Musk (and he did, and it's beautiful), but can we also acknowledge that he went straight for Joe Rogan's throat too?

You’re not asking the right questions. You have to wake up. Wake up. I know what I’ve seen. I’m not crazy! Wake up.

Reasons everyone should watch 1899:
a good old fashioned brain fuck brought to you by the creators of Dark
Daniel Solace
a bunch of people who all speak different languages run around for 8 hours unable to communicate and yelling at each other that they can’t understand what other people are saying
messy-haired Aneurin Barnard running around looking tortured and being pretty
beautiful cinematography
Andreas (DILF) Pietschmann
honestly just an amazing cast all around
Olek just being the most sweet, helpful, lovely person ever
also a good deal of badassery
pretty people being sad and confused
loml Daniel Solance, please he just needs a hug and a kiss
Olek and Ling Yi
just lots of brain fuckery and confusion and pining tbh
I’m still confused and there’s so many ways to interpret everything and I need more
just trust me on this one, please watch it

not to be the guy to compare two popular new netflix shows to each other, but y'know what? yeah, i am a little upset that wednesday is more popular than 1899. don't get me wrong, i don't hate wednesday, i did genuinely enjoy watching it, but 1899 changed me. it left me thinking about the story and the characters and the mystery. what we know, what we don't know, what's gonna happen. those are all things a good mystery show makes you think about. wednesday didn't make me think about any of that.
wednesday is a fine show. but i think it's getting all the extra hype that 1899 actually deserves.
plus 1899 has more languages and andreas pietschmann, so like-
