@nessianweek | Day Five: Behind Closed Doors

My first idea for this art was to focus on the dialogue from the Acosf Prison scene, where Cassian says “I can’t risk you” and this phrase was repeated at a time when they were alone, after Bryce returned the mask to Nesta, because I believe it is one of the reasons, among others, for Cassian to be “the most furious” person with Nesta in that situation. However, the same Acosf Prison scene develops in a way that allows me to believe that Cassian recognizes that he should believe her. So I decided that, in response to Nesta’s “I’m fine” after the worlds were safe, in part because of the decision she made, he would again respond with an “I don’t know why I doubted you”, because I want Cassian to increasingly allow himself to consider Nesta’s perspective first, instead of criticizing her in favor of others, especially in cases where she is the most appropriate person to assess the situation.

My dear Jaque made this wonderful illustration, which I was super excited to share, and I don’t have enough words to praise and thank her.

A Fool's Errand, Rewarded

"Azriel saw the moment Cassian asked her the obvious question in the way she straightened suddenly and seemed to hesitate.

His brother reached out, to grip her fingers, and tilted his head as he said something else – perhaps an encouragement.

Nesta’s head lifted, so she could stare into his eyes, and for several moments, they seemed enraptured by each other. Cassian even lifted a hand, to brush a strand of hair from her eyes.

‘Nervous,’ his shadows whispered. ‘She is nervous, but she wants-‘

Before they could finish the sentence, Mor’s vibrant red dress appeared into his periphery, and her sing-song voice called out,  

“Cassian, I thought you promised to show me a good time!”

In an instant, whatever moment that was happening between him and Nesta was shattered. Abruptly, Cassian detached himself from Nesta’s side, dropping her hand like it was ice and responding loudly about how he always kept his promises.

Seemingly without another word, he was moving back into the blonde’s orbit.

It was a frigid slight, the absolute definition of a dick move. Azriel felt the horror that Nesta was valiantly trying to hide as acutely as his own – so much so that he cringed.

Cauldron, what a fucking idiot."

How is this Cassian's reaction to Rhysand taking Feyre to the Weaver

"Cassian tried to convince me last night not to take you. I thought he might even punch me."

"You're a prick, Rhysand," Cassian said quietly.

But yet when Rhysand threatens to obliterate Nesta, Cassian does...nothing. Absolutely nothing. He doesn't almost punch Rhysand. He doesn't call Rhysand a prick. When Rhysand threatens Nesta, Cassian doesn't even know which side to pick: his mate or his brother. Nesta can't even talk about Rhysand in a snide tone without Cassian ripping her head off, but Cassian will stand by and do nothing while Rhysand threatens to kill his mate.

Cassian is more protective of Feyre than he is of his own mate.

Why I’m Anti Nessian

cw: mentions of sa, self harm, and suicidal thoughts

Lately, I’ve been leaning more towards Neris than Nessian.

I have one issue with Cassian. Nesta clearly uses sex as a form of self destruction, and Cassian knows this. Drinking and sex are unhealthy coping mechanisms that she uses. She’s clearly suffering in the House of Wind, and since she can’t drink, she turns to sex with Cassian. And instead of saying, “You’re clearly in distress and using this as a form of self harm, so I will not have sex with you,” he takes advantage of it.

The worst ones for me are after shes SA’d by the kelpie, and Cassian still has sex with her after, even though its so obvious she only wants to have sex to distract herself from what happened to her.

And when they’re in the mountains, and he finds out how deep her self loathing and suicidal thoughts go. AND HE HAS SEX WITH HER AFTER HE FINDS OUT SHE WANTS TO OFF HERSELF. It’s actually wild to me.

In conclusion, instead of being respectful and helping her to stop using sex as self harm, he HELPS her harm herself.

Nesta blinked, assessing Amren with a cool expression.

“That is what I said, yes.”

“But how do you know that for certain?” Feyre asked her, frowning from her place beside Rhysand, at the front of the hearth in the Townhouse living room. “Did you see him? Did he talk to you?”

As she said the words, a murmur of voices rang in Nesta’s ears, as if the dead were just as interested. She closed her eyes briefly, suppressing a shudder.

Apparently, her trek to the forest had somehow conveyed to her family that she was able to be comfortable in places other than the House of Wind. They were wrong, but here she sat, anyway.

A Nesta Drawing! I’ve been thinking about that bonus chapter in the last crescent city book and how much she seems to still be misunderstood and mistreated by those around her!!! I feel like there are still some dynamic shifts that need to happen with Nesta and the Inner circle in the upcoming books….
