Even if you don't think/know that you have [disorder] (or even if you know you don't!) you're allowed to use coping strategies meant for or associated with that disorder. You can use ADHD tips for your poor memory. You can stim even if you're not autistic (stimming has a lot of overlap between disorders honestly). You can use chronic fatigue tips if you have depression. You're not stealing resources. If it helps you, it helps you, whether you were the target audience or not

When your dad tries to guilt trip you into visiting him: “well I guess I’ll just spend the weekend all by myself...”

You say “glad to know we’re on the same page.” Slowly, he will have to adapt to just outright telling you what he thinks instead of playing mind games.

When your friend tries to hint that they’re mad at you without saying anything: “Oh, I’m fine, clearly you don’t need to worry about me,”

You say: “I’m glad you’re doing well. Call me if you want to talk, though!” Soon enough, they will accept that they can’t be passive aggressive with you.

When your boyfriend says: “All your friends are great, I really love *insert male friend* especially.”

You say: “I’m so glad you like my friends! I should invite them back soon.” He needs to understand that if he has a problem with your friends, he needs to just voice his concerns instead of being sarcastic and accusatory.

As someone who has lived through several toxic relationships and has an abusive father, I think one of the most important manipulation tools a toxic person has is excessive subtext and hidden meanings in their conversation. It hides all of the actual fighting from the eyes of onlookers while still hurting you, which is scary and makes you feel like you’re making it all up. Don’t put up with this bs. Make them stop hiding.

So, it’s established that Maxwell lives at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. Of course, that version of the hotel no longer exists because of the Great Earthquake in 1906 (which was all Maxwell’s fault, as we know). This Palace was built in 1875, and among its many features was this stunning interior courtyard, with a sunny glass ceiling on the seventh floor. It was originally a drop-off point for carriages, but the lighting was so popular with guests that in 1900 they converted it to the Palm Court. Every floor would allow guests to look over the balustrade and down at the happenings below. I imagine that this is where Maxwell held interviews for his Assistant position, and I can also imagine Charlie and him having breakfast/shootin’ the breeze here. All very on brand for Don’t Starve, of course. *painful wink*

Carter Family Fun Time

ok I’m not the first person to do this, but I wanted to try designing some of Maxwell’s extended family. We know he has his brother Jack, and we’re also 99% sure the “twins” Jack writes about in his postcards are Wendy and Abigail from the game, so there’s probably a Mrs. Carter in there too. Genetics are never as 1-to-1 in real life as they are in cartoons, but for the sake of visual shorthand I’m doing it this way. I’m calling the twins’ mother “Mary Ellen” as a placeholder, no particular reason. If they’ve dropped an official name at any point, I haven’t seen it. I wanted Jack and William to look reasonably like brothers. I’m totally on board the blonde Jack bandwagon though.
