What really happened in the shed scene

(It wasn't JUST the time Mike gave a genuine love confession...)

Will knew the demodogs would overrun Hawkins unless the party closed the gate and killed everything attached to the Hive Mind, including himself.

Joyce, Jonathan, and Mike didn't make Will just start communicating. Will gathered all his willpower for ONE PURPOSE:

Will had no hope of ever getting out of the possession; he was going to save them.

But remember that MIKE was the one who broke through:

Why?

Of course, Mike didn't love Will more than the others.

It was that MIKE was the one Will wouldn't let die.

El's arc of "pleading with the wrong people" in s4 (Byler analysis)

There's a pattern in season 4. El's learning the difficult lesson that you can't always rely on other people to be what you want them to be:

There was no point in pleading with Angela to prop up her lie to Mike. There was no point in appealing to Vecna's humanity. There was no point in hoping that Mike would be a boyfriend who'd make her feel loved.

El had huge issues of feeling worthless and like "a monster" in s4. With such a low opinion of herself, she kept looking to others to solve problems she needed to take on her own.

That's why Mike's "love confession" -- after she had confronted Dr. Brenner for being the real monster -- was so against her ACTUAL arc in s4. She had confronted the source of her self-loathing, her abuser (Dr. Brenner). She was learning to love herself instead of pleading for love and kindness from others.

There was no happy-couple resolution for El and Mike after the "confession," because she now had a different view of what she wanted from her relationship with Mike, if she still wanted one at all:

She's focused on how she failed to stop Vecna, and she's not really opening up to Mike or seeing him as a partner in helping her process that. In retrospect, since they became official she's never really involved him in the biggest issues in her life, except to paper over them (start of s4) or to be in conflict with him (how to use her powers in s3).

To Mike, El doesn't seem to NEED him the same way she did before (exactly what Mike had feared). She's moved on to other matters.

She is in a different place now. And so are Mike and Will:

A likely reason for that El/Mike scene

We don't know the context of these El/Mike shots from the teaser, but it's clearly a heart-to-heart scene, likely one where Mike and El enter a new phase in their relationship. (And we Bylers of course think that's a loving platonic future, with the heart shape symbolizing that.)

But I've heard it said that "it doesn't make sense" for Mike to suddenly confess he's gay/bi or loves Will, right before she goes into the sensory deprivation tank. It would be strange, out-of-place, and awkward.

It WOULD be. But that's not the only possibility.

Isn't THIS one, also?

Will has been captured by the military or Vecna, and El needs to use her powers to find him.

We know how dangerous it can be for El to project her mind into enemy territory (Season 3). Mike has been protective of El before and not wanted her to put herself in danger. He probably expresses concern for her again, too.

But El senses Mike is terribly fearful for Will.

El has been picking up hints that Mike and Will might be in love with each other. (Which probably starts with the Painting Lie. Mike asks her about the painting, she probably figures out that the painting Will made "for someone he likes" was for Mike. Which starts the wheels turning in her head.)

El takes Mike aside. SHE is the one who starts the conversation.

"I'm going to ask you something. And you need to tell me the truth. Friends don't lie."

(Mike nods nervously.)

"Do... you love Will?"

"Of course I do! He's my best friend."

"No. Do you LOVE WILL?"

"Because It's okay. And I'm okay."

On the Milev*n heart shape

A Byler on Tiktok expressing doubt because of the heart shape from the teaser:

Why the Byler doubt?? Love can be platonic. If they break up, this is actually A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF SYMBOLISM, to show that while they might not be a romantic couple, they will ALWAYS love each other.

(Some of us are just expressing the understandable fear and trauma of having been queerbaited by TV shows too many times. And ohhhh the Duffers deserve ire if they indeed join the Shows of Shame. But the way they have treated Mike and Will with sensitivity and care, and with such subtlety so as NOT to get the attention of the General Audience, already contrasts it to what those shows did.)

If the Duffers plan Byler to be real, they (1) have to throw bread crumbs in both directions, (2) AND they have to continue to present the surface picture of Mileven being canon. Remember that most of the GA thinks Mike conquered his fear and declared his love for Mileven! Anything disrupting that would fuel Byler speculation way too early, if they want to preserve the twist. There's already too big of a Byler fandom, evidence within the show, and too much GA speculation about Mike/Will. They DID seem so much happier together than Mike and El in s4... So the show absolutely cannot have many scenes of only Mike and Will together in promotional materials for that reason.

The lack of Mike and Will together in the teaser (besides their shot with Holly on the highway, which too many Bylers are undervaluing), is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS, given all the behind-the-scenes photos, the fact that Mike declared they'd be "a team" and "best friends" and "kill Vecna" together in s4, that Noah had to stop himself at a con from admitting that most of his scenes are with Finn this season, and that his favorite scene with Finn in the series comes from THIS SEASON.

Half-second shots with zero context say SO LITTLE compared to following the anatomy of the characters, and the directions their arcs are going in. Never lose sight of the big picture.

They have prepared Byler. And if it happens, it is a PLOT TWIST that they won't give away yet.

One of the best ways you know your argument is strong is when people start resorting to ad hominem attacks against you:

I of course am under no obligation to have to prove something that THEY have no evidence against, and I think my method of argument speaks for itself. But just gonna put out that my name is Ronald Cruz and an elementary amount of Google-fu will steer you in the right direction.

Like did you really think you could get away with throwing out false accusations against someone who said he's an attorney? Isn't that kind of... delusional?

So yes, a lawyer did an EVIDENCE-BASED ANALYSIS supporting Byler.

Challenge the argument, not the speaker.

Trailer for Stranger Things 4, Volume 1... Notice anything?

Hardly any Byler footage at all.

Everything lacks CONTEXT.

There's a quick exchange between Mike and El at the roller rink but for all we know they're HAPPY there.

There's a quick shot of Mike and Will, where Mike says "It's gonna be up to us again," but he's not looking at Will. You have no idea that it's an intimate scene. Heck, it almost looks like he's talking to someone else in the room.

But of course, Season 4 Volume 1 was the most explicitly Bylery streak of episodes ever, making everybody think Mike and Will would kiss in Volume 2!

But the trailer didn't hint at it at all.

just a reminder that one of the most heartfelt, passionate and tender byler scenes were in s4 and none of that was featured in any trailers. In fact Mike and Will spent majority of s4 together (just like in s5) and they have a max of like 2 clips shown per s4 trailer.

So don’t get byler doubt! The lack of content proves they have something to hide, and it’s only a matter of time before we see it all unfold.
