The Fires We Let Burn

Summary:

Desperate to escape a bad situation, George impulsively takes a last minute job serving as a fire lookout in the Montana wilderness. He's expecting nearly five months of complete solitude as he keeps watch for fires by day and tries to heal from his past by night. What he's not expecting is a chatty neighbor in another fire tower twenty miles away. Dream is an experienced ranger tasked with keeping an eye on the new guy, but as they talk day by day over the radio, getting to know and slowly trust one another, something new starts kindling beneath the surface. Will the spark between these two strangers die in the smoke, or will it turn into a full-blown fire? And what will happen when fire season is over and George has to go back to his normal life, full of troubles?

the entire @comhousebigbang team deserve so many props. this event has been so smooth - professionally organized, emails on a regular basis, follows ups and reminders for check-ins, open to everyone and making everyone feel invited and appreciated, community engagement and fun challenges in the discord, and always there to answer a question no matter how silly it is.

the posting starts this weekend and i'm so ready for the fic to come. this is the kind of attitude and event-running spirit that really uplifts a fandom and brings people together, and i know it isn't easy.

Okay whateva I’m coming off anon PLEASE YES to George in London era he was so new and softer and quieter back then and had more walls up it’s so fun to read how people write him from a time when we know so much more🙏

don’t apologize!!! this is epic for me thank you so much!!! and i think a body swap fic from that era would be so much fun because of all the differences and intricacies, like how george didn’t know what dream looked like, george had more walls up (like you mentioned) and they’d never been in each other’s space before and didn’t fully know how the other lives day-to-day, and assuming that in the context of the fic that was a time where there were still some uncertainties around the nature of their friendship… there’s so much nuance to work with. i almost love this concept so much that i’m scared to write it because i know if it’s done well it could be amazing and i’m not sure i’m confident enough in my writing LMAO but i’m getting more and more interested in it the more i talk about it

i completely agree with you on your second ask too - ugh there really are so many possibilities with dnf and so many directions to take a fic (/pos). i did write a little pwp oneshot with that kind of vibe but thinking in terms of plot i can definitely see some good possibilities…

I literally just reread that one yesterday it gets better every time MORE OF GEORGE FUCKING HIMSELF!! Or dreamcest idc it’s just more of a character I love😭😭But yes one of my favorite fics was a time swap I looked through tags one day and couldn’t find it so I think it’s gone now so we as a community must bridge that gap again

WAITT I’m back I just realized I fumbled bringing up my favorite trope that not nearly enough people here use the time swap body swap one I literally obsess over the idea of current Dream and old George meeting or current George and old Dream if you need another idea there’s one

OHHHH YOURE SO RIGHT that’s such a good one and there aren’t nearly enough fics with that trope… where do you want to be in five years is my roman empire. such a good fic. you’ve got sexuality exploration, feelings realization, self-love (and a bit of selfcest), and it’s also just hot as fuck. that’s a really good idea anon, thank you!!! you’ve sparked some inspiration in me… 😁

WONDERFUL then I’m thinking something with Dream jealousy demons😁😁maybe they’re in La or something and of course men notice George and dnf have been playing around that line so long maybe George entertains the men you could decide how far that goes and Dream is just losing his mind. Poor guy he wants George to be happy but he is literally dying inside thinking about another person trying to take his spot next to George eventually it leads to the actual getting together maybe something like that… I love jealous Dream and jealous George so bad

UGHHH this is such a good trope for dnf, thank you so much for the idea 😁 one of my favourite jealousy fics is our own terrible way by @czargasm (which is anf fwb -> endgame dnf), it’s so good and it hits the mark perfectly on what you said about dream wanting george to be happy but having it eat at him. you can truly never go wrong with a jealousy fic, you’re right…

What era is your pwp fic there’s different things you could work with depending on the time🤔

good point! there’s so little plot that it could literally be any era 😭 well, any era since george moved to florida. so i guess george in florida era.

i’m writing a dnf fic but it’s pwp and for some reason i can’t get into writing it… i need some plot. but the problem is that i’m horrible at coming up with plot ideas. so if anyone has any ideas….. or anything they want to read…….
