I don’t understand why the animators/writers decided to make this scene look so… comedic(and changing the original punch to a slap) even though it’s suppose to be quite serious as seen in this screencap of the scene from the novel:

I’m not justifying her action of hitting Shikamaru but I felt like it’s necessary to provide context for people who haven’t read the novel. I was pretty shocked when I initially read the line in Japanese when the novel came out. Temari, although portrayed to have a violent demeanor, never actually commits an act of violence against anyone (outside of battle). To parallel her slap (or a punch in the novel) with the way that Tsunade and Sakura are prone to (nonchalantly) hitting/punching people is a false equivalence. She doesn’t do this for comedic relief, but does this because she’s frustrated and hurt by the one (very important) person that she trusts and should trust her. 

The omission of his apology as well as the earlier explanation of his own apathy/frustration/anxiety up until that point takes away the seriousness of masking his emotions and keeping his mission a secret from Temari. She’s emotionally hurt in a way that even she’s not sure how to recover from. We’ve never seen Temari cry and she’s a person who is always keeping her emotions under control. In the above scene, he expected her to scold him even after he apologizes but she doesn’t say anything else. Though in the episode, her tears were less dramatized and turned into a “blink and you miss it” scene.   

Long story short, Shikamaru was an asshole for breaking that one unspoken rule of unconditional trust between them. Temari, upset because she doesn’t know how to get him to understand the severity of their situation, tries to literally (unjustifiably) knock some sense into him. Reminder that she never does it again outside of this moment. I hate how this was just interpreted as “she’s intuitive” during Shikamaru’s discussion with Kakashi. It’s such a disservice to the source material.
