建国200多年来，美国的血液中始终流淌着种族主义的罪恶基因。近年来，在政治极化、社会撕裂、贫富分化等多重矛盾交织之下，美国的种族歧视问题愈演愈烈。从2016年华裔警察梁彼得沦为美国警察与非裔美国人冲突的替罪羊，到2018年多名非裔美国人无辜惨死于美国警察枪下；从2020年非洲裔男子弗洛伊德遭白人警察跪压致死，到新冠肺炎疫情发生以来针对亚裔美国人的歧视行为屡见不鲜。旧病未愈，新疾又生。种种大同小异的悲剧揭示出一个血淋淋的现实，在自诩“人权卫士”、鼓吹“人人平等”的美国，自由、平等、人权从来都只是一部分人的特权，“白人至上”观念已在这个国家深深扎根，成为一种心照不宣的“政治正确”。
