spoilers for the bonus chapter because i have feelingsssssss

i am so damn glad that henry ended up abdicating, it finally felt like the truest, most honest ending

we spent the entire book having it reiterated over and over again that henry hated being a royal, or at the very least was sincerely unhappy in that role. he obviously liked using his station to help people, but was also clearly uncomfortable with every other aspect of being a capital-R Royal. being in the public eye and being constantly scrutinized and pressured to behave a certain way and to perform like a show poodle on command, not to mention the immense amount of trauma caused by the institution itself keeping him closeted and silenced. and this doesn't even begin to touch on the absolutely vile history of the monarchy which he directly represents as a prince, which is too massive a topic to even properly breach here.

henry has important things to say and a platform with which to say them, and even if in a post-book world he was able to live openly as a gay man, he would have still been gagged by the fact that he was a prince, not even allowed to have opinions on the things that mean the most to him or even really openly support the causes of the man he loves while he acts in the capacity of a foreign monarch. not to mention essentially killing any chance of future alex ever holding office of any kind (you cannot hold office in the US if you hold a title from a foreign country's monarchy without congressional approval)

that life was never going to suit henry. yes, alex could and likely will choose a different career path, and yes, they could still be acting royals and have a happy and fulfilling life, but I never really bought that either of them would WANT that life.

alex would never be fully happy being muzzled by the restraints of a title, and henry's joy seems to lie outside of that life, too. he got to write his book and marry his man on his own terms and live the life he always dreamed of but never thought possible, and he isn't losing or giving up anything, he isn't made lesser by abdication, he's made whole, now free to make his own choices and speak with his own voice and stand on his own merit and that is the ending i wanted for him.

Top 5 HotchRied moments

ahajsjsjk- evil. pure evil! 🤣 however, it gave me an excuse to spend my morning rewatching some of the best hotchreid scenes so maybe i should thank you instead 🥰

okay, these are in no particular order and i apologise in advance for the incoherent ramblings you're about to read....

literally all of l.d.s.k. okay this is basically the hotchreid episode on my eyes. if i were to pick a scene though it 100% has to be the ambulance scene. you've got all the soft smiles, the fond laughs, hotch reaching out to touch reid like he always seems to want to do! not to mention the fact that hotch lets reid keep his gun despite admitting just how awful his aim is. smitten. he's so damn smitten.

what i have dubbed as 'the nightmare scene' from 1x10. this scene is so dear to me. it's about hotch not being to wait until after the case to comfort reid like gideon does, it's hotch seeing reid yawn and immediately needing to be there for him. it's about the intimacy of this small scene, the lack of personal space, the hushed voices. the "if you wanna talk about it, you know where i am" + hotch yet again gently touching reid.

that damn freaking hug in 2x15! or, no, okay that is a huge moment obviously because there's the softness to hotch's voice and the way he holds reid like he's afraid he'll shatter right in front of him only for reid to cling to hotch like his entire life depends on it. but i think the whole "i choose aaron hotchner" scene actually tops this one. because it's about the huge implication that hotch is closest to reid out of the whole bau team. how reid is putting all of his trust, his whole life, into hotch's hands purely because he knows that hotch will remember some random conversation they had a while back. it's how hotch doesn't blink an eye, doesn't for one second take what reid says about him to heart (unlike the rest of the team) because he already knows exactly what reid thinks about him.

the fist bump scene from 10x11!! i haven't even watched this episode yet but i've seen this scene so many times. hotch glaring at kate when she questions reid, only for his expression to soften the moment he turns back to reid. the proud smirk on hotch's face when reid proves them wrong. the whispered "psst" and the adorableness of that whole moment, reid not even hesitating as he fist bumps hotch, barely even looking up, as if this is a thing they do all the time and hotch isn't totally acting unusually fond or playful at all (which just goes to show that this is how hotch acts when they're off the job and you know i'm a sucker for chaotic hotch).

the physics magic scene is 2x12!!! okay i could ramble about this scene forever. hotch immediately recognising what reid is doing as "physics magic" even though the girls were laughing about reid calling it magic. he just knows what it is. the implication of there being a past conversation/incident about reid doing these little experiments and yet the girls have never seen it before, which means hotch saw it outside of work. not only that but also the fact that hotch has seen reid's physics magic experiment more than once because of his comment "although, you're starting to get some distance on those" + their matching grins, especially hotch's huge hidden one! not to mention how reid responds with "sometimes" when emily notes that hotch does actually have a sense of humour. love reid just understanding hotch in ways that the others don't.

this got waaay out of hand, i'm so so sorry 🤣 give me a chance to talk about hotchreid and i will go overboard!

Scenes that highlight Gwaine and Percival's relationship:

4x01: Percival and Gwaine shoulder to shoulder preforming a chicken heist from the kitchens while grinning like idiots

4x02: Percival saves Gwaine’s life from a dorocha. "Never knew you cared!" With a smile that quickly disappears at the LOOK Percival gives him.

4x02: The sword toss is flawless and I don't know why Gwaine is tossing a sword to Percival, but I appreciate it all the same

4x02: "Go pick on Percival" "why me?" Lovely banter

4x10: the tiny "wtf" look Percival gives Gwaine and his answering shrug after Gwaine knocks out Elyan is great silent communication

4x12: "I'll keep them off your back as long as I can" and the arm clasp

5x01: The two of them sticking together including sleeping next to each other

5x03: the banter in the armory: "Why does it always take you twice as long to change out of you armor?" "Because I'm twice the size of you, little man." "Then why is it that your brain is so small?" *taps Percivals head twice and retreats with a grin when Percival stands up with a grin of his own*

5x10: Percival participating in playing keep away with Gwaine’s helmet

5x13: Percival providing support and comfort to Gwaine during the execution

5x13: the two of them riding out alone to find and kill Morgana (ah yes, a whole army couldn't do it but through the power of friendship and vengeance the two of you shall. Smh)

5x13 we knew it was coming: Gwaine’s death and Percival’s reaction to it. Holding his head up, desperately calling his name, resting his forehead against Gwaine’s, crying. Dare I say that this is the first time we see one of the knights freely cry? Like not just a tear down the face but audible noisy crying? Which would also make it the last.

I like to think that Gwaine brings a new animal to his and Percy’s apartment at least once a month

Gwaine: She was cold!

Percy: That’s the fourth raccoon on a row, the answer is still no

anon you are so right oh my gosh

Gwaine means well, he really does

And Percival is extremely patient

But there are times when it gets to be too much

Gwaine, pointing to Percy’s hamster village: You have animals!! Why can’t I?? Percival, staring at the skunk in Gwaine’s arms: 

Or on another occassion

Gwaine, a clearly wild and possibly rabid cat in his arms: Please? Percival:  Percival: I’m sorry but your last ‘cat’ broke half of my snow globe collection

Percy starts to feel bad for turning away Gwaine’s...friends, but he wants to keep the apartment somewhat orderly

So they try to compromise

Percival suggests something small, like a fish

But Gwaine is googling where to buy a giant squid in a matter of seconds

Percival: How about...a smaller fish? Gwaine: I’m on it. *10 minutes later* How does an angler fish sound?

They end up buying an ant farm for Gwaine the next day

(And they eventually become a dog family with two golden retrievers, one poodle, one dalmatian, and a bulldog)

My Merlin Fantasy;

Look, I love merlin. Alot. But God was the show depressing. This will include spoilers so be warned. And this is just me because I know my ships aren't canon but still.

Will, Gwaine, Elyan, Freya, and Lancelot would be alive/brought back/never died.

Gili would come back (maybe Morgana too).

Percival and Gwaine would be a couple cause they're my OTP.

Gwen and Arthur are still a thing.

Freya and Merlin would get to be happy.

Friendship between the knights and Merlin would be shown more often.

Gwaine, Will, Percival, and Merlin (and Lancelot though he can never be caught) would pull alot of pranks.

Gwaine helping Merlin hide the dragon egg and the baby dragon.

Hilarious moments of those two hiding the dragon and the others getting dragged in one by one until Arthur finally catches on.

The knights meeting Hunith.

Hunith being everyone's mom cause you know she would.

Gaius giving everyone the eyebrow of death.

A random wacky episode or three were someone pretends to be a dead Knight's son but hold on, that's Gwaine's dad and since he's too stubborn to admit that he's noble he and Merlin (and Lancelot and Will and Percival who get dragged in eventually because you know they would) have to find a way to expose his lying ass self.

More Gwen and Merlin friendship.

More Leon, Gwen, and Merlin being tired of everyone's shit.

Morgana and Arthur being peak sibling energy.

Gwaine's sister showing up and him and her fighting while trying not to reveal that they are related or just Gwaine straight up trying to stop his sister from revealing he's a noble.

Gwaine and Arthur being horrified someone would even consider dating their sisters.

Everyone making a collective face when they realize Morganna is Uther's bio daughter and the implications of that.

Arthur going "Merlin? Why is there a dragon chewing on my shoes?"

And just everyone living their best lives.

I know, I know. It didn't happen but it's my Merlin fantasty and it would have been awesome. Plus I can't get the image of Gwaine running after a dragon while Percival distracts Arthur out of my head. It's cute and hilarious, okay?
