Skeleton Panda Sea Tunicate Appreciation Post!!! 💀 🐼 🌊

Clavelina ossipandae, the skeleton panda sea tunicate is a species of colonial ascidian, also known as sea tunicates, a group of sessile, marine filter-feeding invertebrates. Just some funky little guys!

First discovered near Kume Island in Japan by local divers, pictures of the animal attracted media attention in 2017. But they weren't given their formal taxonomic description until 2024

The super-adorable sea otters, one of the animals I'd love to see live in their natural habitat... They're so wonderful!!

I've read they keep their favorite rock under their arm so they can crack open clams and other sea animals they eat. Other curious habits include how they spend the day floating (when they're not looking for food or playing around), how they care for their babies by putting them on top of their tummies and cuddle them all day to keep them warm and safe, and the way they sleep, floating wrapped in seaweed or holding each other's hands so they don't end up drifting away, separated from their family in the vastness of the ocean.
