annabeth’s knife being the weapon that killed luke and the fact that she kept using it would have been interesting to explore more, especially when she lost it in hoo. was she secretly relieved? did she mourn losing a last piece of luke? a symbol of his last selfless act, but also of his death?

“why don’t they ever suspect Luke why don’t they realize it’s Luke why are they so quick to suspect Clarisse and not a Hermes kid”
guys, Luke is the perfect child. Thats the whole point! He gave his offerings he said his prayers he went on his quest he proved his loyalty to Chiron, to the gods, to his dad. And he did it all with a smile. They have no reason to suspect luke! Luke is the best of them!
Ares could’ve come to that meeting waving a big sign that said “LUKES THE LIGHTNING THIEF” and they still wouldn’t have believed him.
Because they also don’t want it to be Luke.
They love Luke. Luke takes care of them Luke protects them Luke is everything they want in an older brother. It doesn’t matter how blaringly obvious the writers get about who the real thief is. They will ignore every sign, every red flag, every warning, until Percy is dying of poison deep in the forest and Luke is gone.

i like to think if annabeth and percy ended up living around mortals they would tell their friends abt some of the stuff they went through bc they can’t really hide it forever except they make it sound like their family’s part of the greek mafia
a lot of “yeah my dads…influential…in greece”
or “my moms,,pretty powerful in greece,, yeah she’s up there lol..anyway”
like they make it sound like maybe poseidon and athena are two “business CEO’s” who butt heads but everyone thinks their two mafia leaders who hate eachother
annabeth slips up and brings up the 7 months percy was missing and they have to cover it up saying his aunt, on his dads side, sent him away to a boarding school in greece where he wasn’t able to contact anyone here in america
“yeah we don’t really talk to her after..that..”
it doesn’t help that their friends can hear them hiss in greek to each other when they don’t want them to know what their saying
or when their stretching in a certain way that makes their shirt ride up and there are obvious scars hidden underneath
and it honestly all makes sense just going off the vibes of the two of them so no one really questions it because who would and anytime either of their parents appear shifted into their mortal counterparts everyone keeps their eyes downcast

percy is an incredibly skilled sword fighter. and it's safe to say that he doesn't just train with riptide. because only training with his god-given weapon would be incredibly irresponsible (and annabeth would never let him develop that crutch). so i have to assume he proficient enough to hold his own with any elongated tool he can get his hands on. and it has to come in handy in the funniest way. like imagine percy and annabeth playing tag. and he just grabs the nearest paper towel roll and 🤺🤺 her hands to she can't lay a finger on him.

Pjo hadcanon, - demigods don't really suffer from PTSD, they can't suffer emotionally at all or are as blunted as possible.
They are disconnected from their feelings/emotions and cannot react to bad things Like ordinary people.
They are frighteningly indifferent to any pain, mental or physical - the pain from physical injuries or something emotional lingers for a maximum of a couple of weeks and then disappears into oblivion like a morning mist. grief passes easily and quickly, fear disappeared in a few minutes, the risk of pleasant waves of adrenaline warming the blood.
And they are prone to sadism and any enjoyment of any kind of violence.
It doesn't matter if it's over yourself, a monster, a mortal, or another demigod.
They are always happy to use weapons or hands/abilities.
These children learn to hold weapons, wear armor and be able to cause serious harm, as soon as they enter the camp, do not expect anything normal/correct or at least explicable from them.
They are not human, they - living weapons, expertly crafted from golden divine blood and mortal flesh.
They were born to fight and die in battle with a blissful smile on their lips.
They were born with broken souls and sick minds.
It's just that someone is bigger, someone is smaller.
this is a fun headcanon, but i want to put a bit of an angstier spin on it:
these children are human, but only partly. they can suffer PTSD. they know what's happened to them, what's been done to them, is wrong. they can suffer flashbacks and repressed memories and trouble sleeping and nightmares and intrusive thoughts and panic attacks and depression and apathy. they do suffer it. but they always get back up. there's surety in their recovery, and there's tragedy in it. they can't stop, can't falter, can't take time to process, can't slow down enough to work through their trauma before the next terrible thing happens.
these demigods are too inhuman to move at a normal pace. they have too much mythical strength in their bones and their blood to stop for any amount of time and heal. they throw themselves at each threat that comes their way like a battering ram with terrifying speed and strength and awareness. it just builds, and builds, and builds until they die or they break.
(sometimes, they think the ones who do die are the lucky ones.)
maybe it's the ever-growing trauma. maybe it's the divinity in their veins. maybe it's something entirely new, entirely too human to be godly, but too godly to be human. maybe they've just finally snapped.
some slowly feel their grasp on reality slipping. what time is it? did they sleep through a whole day again? when did they get to the lava wall? how did they reach the top, and is that a real burn on their hand? it doesn't hurt. is that a camper, or a monster? did the border fail? are those heavy footsteps outside the cabin real? are they really still alive, or is this their eternal punishment for failing succeeding?
some watch as their moral code slips through their fingers like sand. they'll fight as hard as they have to to save their siblings and their allies. they'll kill any monsters that come their way. maybe, they'll kill any demigods, too. maybe even humans. maybe they couldn't save someone, but the battle was still a victory. maybe that sacrifice was necessary to win. maybe sacrifices are okay, to minimize the damage. maybe damage is okay, so long as the enemy dies. maybe, just maybe, a pyrrhic victory is worth it, no matter who was lost, so long as they're still standing at the end of it all.
some stop feeling. it starts as depression. is winning wars worth it if they couldn't save everyone? their sibling died, their friends and lover died, and the world still turns on, cold and unfeeling. maybe cold and unfeeling is the way to go. maybe joy is unnecessary in the long run. maybe sadness is, too. maybe it will make things better. they pick themselves up, resume their routine. everything is normal. archery practice. lava wall. weapon smithing. capture the flag. everything is normal. everything is numb. why should the gods care when their children can't even manage it?
some turn violent. they grew up in war, training endlessly, fighting battle after battle, the only thing standing between the world and its doom. what is there to do now that the war is over, is won, than train more? practice weapons they've never tried, master moves they've never managed. kill in ways they've never thought of. they grew up in war. what good are they without it? what good is a weapon, just sitting around, gathering dust? maybe hurting people isn't right, but if it makes them feel something, isn't it worth it?
it's a cold world. it's not meant for children, human children. those children evolve to survive, and what they turn into barely resembles their mortal parentage. it's a dog eat dog world, survival of the fittest, and the unlucky ones? the ones that didn't die? the ones stuck in their trauma and PTSD and broken minds? they have to figure out how to live in it.

I personally have always felt that, on Jason's end, the rivalry he bad with Percy was done to like meet the expectation of his role S a son of Jupiter. He doesn't even know how to have a genuine rivalry because he's all in his head.
I dunno I might be talking outta my ass
i understand how it comes across that way. honestly, that's probably how rick wrote it. "well these two are kids of the big three, gotta put some tension there."
he clearly didn't think about percy and jason as three-dimensional characters that could have a rivalry grow naturally between them. he thought a rivalry would just be a flat plot point and made something up.
the rivalry should have been jason trying to fill percy's shoes at CHB for months, and still falling short because he's not thinking of percy as a person who can't be replaced rather than just an empty leadership role that needs to be filled.
the rivalry should have been jason learning that percy became praetor after spending less than a week total at CJ—he was literally on a quest 90% of the time. no matter how much he helped in the battle at the end of the book, jason wouldn't think he'd truly earned his position. earning a praetorship, jason would think, takes years of work, not a week.
the rivalry should have been percy remembering how bitter he really is towards the gods as he recovers his memory, percy realizing that CJ deadass has an entire child army, fully sanctioned by the adults in new rome, and realizing that those adults are just as bad as, if not worse than, gods who would send children on life-threatening, world-saving quests, and the only person he can really take that repressed anger and bitterness out on is jason.
the rivalry should have been jason hearing how flippant percy is when talking about these deities that they're meant to worship, how much he insults them and how impertinent he can be without consequence, and he simultaneously envies how much percy's able to get away with and hates how disrespectful he is.
we should have seen roman leader jason, groomed from his toddler years by the legion and lupa herself, who leads a structured, militaristic camp that prioritizes the safety of the many over the safety of the few, bashing heads with greek leader percy, who went from being an outcast to growing into leadership because he wanted to save as many people as he could.
we should have seen jason's envy of the fact that percy had a mother. we should have seen jason's jealousy over how much percy's father loves and values him. we should have seen jason's heartbreak that this self-important, standoffish, disrespectful jerk has the brotherly relationship with thalia that jason's desperate to have.
we should have seen so much more of these two characters that made them seem less like legendary heroes and more like the traumatized teenagers they are.

give me more of Percy and Grover's empathy link.
give me random emotions flitting through their connection. give me Percy, confused why he's suddenly filled with righteous indignation at the skate park. give me Grover, feeling rage that's not his spreading through him like a storm, and immediately knowing something's wrong. give Grover Percy's satisfaction when he kills a tough monster. give Percy Grover's delight at how good this enchilada is.
give me physical symptoms. i want Grover to IM Percy every time his sinuses get stuffy and tell him to stop missing Annabeth so hard you'll literally see her this weekend. I want Percy to get a very specific kind of headache and immediately know that Grover's about to kill another oil company CEO, so he grabs the greek fire and goes to find Blackjack. i want Annabeth to notice Grover growing deathly pale, and when she asks, he just shakes his head and says, "we need to check in with Sally," and when they do, New York is in the middle of an unexpected cat 5 hurricane because she got mugged.
i want Percy to get sliced by a poisoned blade and Grover gets such a bad side stitch he can hardly move. i want Grover to get knocked out and four hundred miles away, Percy gets a migraine. i want Percy to get a toothache when Grover gets a bit of tin can stuck in his teeth.
i want so much more of these boys being so important to each other. i want my favorite best friends back.

i don't understand how annabeth is interpreted as cold hearted and stoic. this woman was falling in the tartarus, the darkest pit of hell without any guarantee whether she'd make it alive or not but no, her main priority was thinking percy had never looked more handsome.
she's completely hopelessly WHIPPED for him yall...lmao

anyway have any of you ever thought about how Jason was raised by wolves and then an army and told he had to be the best so he became the best, made himself the best using his experiences and power, who has to prove himself time and time again to the people who made him, and then he meets Percy Jackson who, with almost none of Jason’s training, without having been raised and molded into a leader, is better than him
Percy Jackson, who had a childhood, who had a mom, who seems all the better for it. Jason can finish his quests and missions and get a pat on the back and congratulations for bringing honor to the Legion and nothing else because that’s what’s expected of him, while Percy gets hugs and cookies and tears of relief and so much love because people had been hoping he’d succeed, not because it meant victory, but because it meant he'd live.
all of the things Jason’s gone through to make him that perfect leader and soldier feel like they were all for nothing because he looks at Percy Jackson and sees that perfect leader and soldier and none of the things that made Jason good are what made him great

you ever think about how, at Camp Half-Blood, value is placed on the individual?
you are taken somewhere safe. you are trained so that someday you can survive on your own outside the borders. you bunk with your friends and family, either in cabin 11 or your parent's. you are taught greek myths so that those myths cannot take you by surprise. you are given the skills you need to succeed where you can, to live your life: forging, archery, agility, fighting, riding, gardening.
quests are rare. quests are for the unlucky. the gods are there, but as a background presence. they are given offerings, and prayers, as parents and rulers, but they are not the main focus of the camp.
now, do you ever think about how at Camp Jupiter, Rome comes before all else?
you are taken somewhere in the wilderness. you are trained by the mother of Rome so that someday you can take your place in the Legion. you bunk with your comrades, in cohorts separated mainly by skill. you are taught roman history so that you can honor it. you are given the skills you need to fight for Rome.
quests serve to bring glory to the Legion. quests are for ranking officers. the gods are distant, mythical, all-powerful beings that are to be respected before all else. they are the lifeblood of Rome. Camp exists to serve Rome and Olympus before all else.
it's no wonder they clash every time they meet.

okay but percy calling the minotaur 'ground beef' is so diabolical. because imagine being the well-known. undefeatable. half-bull half-man. seven foot tall monster. prancing around in your fanciest fruit of the loom tighty whities. and this twelve year old. with no objective experience in swordfighting. whose mom you just violently squished to death. calls you a feast for carnivores. the important part of a taco. the beef of the wellington. i would have gave up.

My father, he just... didn't show. I mean, ignoring me is one thing, but he doesn't get to ignore you. I'm gonna make him come down here. I'm gonna make him see me. I'm gonna make him see us both.

as far as everyone was concerned. percy had a year left to live in tbotl. and i know that we didn't see what that like for him because it didn't matter plot-wise. but i would have loved to read it. give me percy who is hardly speaking up at the dinner table. half-asleep and behind on last week's homework. give me percy who is clearly losing the will to live and trudging around the apartment like he doesn't care where his feet takes him. give me percy who is sneaking out of the house and visiting montauk. sitting along the beachside shore. wondering why his only purpose in life is that of a soldier and not of a kid.
