For Baby/Beginner/New Witches 👶🏻🌟
As flattered as I am to receive tons of messages from newer witches asking me so many questions and being so enthusiastic about starting this journey into their Craft, I'm feeling a slight degree of panic because I am not a teacher.
I am barely out of the margin of baby witch myself and I am still learning.
However I do feel like I should at least give pointers on where to start and how to go about this crazy thing we all practice so here we go.
Where Do I Start?
You're excited to get going but you've got no idea where to start, understandable, witchcraft is one of these info heavy subjects. However, if you start at researching these two things I promise it'll become easier.
The History of Witchcraft: Probably one of the most vital aspects of witchcraft you need to learn about is the history. From how long it's been going, some of the old practices, the persecution of witches and the more recent history, the legalisation of witchcraft, etc. Everything you learn after this, divination, herbal magick, whatever, you should always try to have a quick look at where it originated and it's history. It's always good to know, after all, how can you expect to learn and practice something when you don't know why it was created and used for in the first place?
The Different Paths/Types: Right, this is the easiest way to narrow down the research after this to specifics. What you believe in (e.g, are you Atheist? Agnostic?), why you wish to take this up, what types of magick do you actually want to use? These questions, when answered will point to different paths, religions or types of practice and therefore, different types of magick, rituals, different research. For example, if you are drawn to Wicca, you probably won't need to research hexes or curses as most Wiccans tend to follow the rule of 3 (If you do something negative to others it'll come back on you 3 fold). Give every type a fair trial research wise in case something catches your intuition but remember, some paths are closed religions/practices, and so are off limits unless you're born or initiated by someone who is part of that practice into them (Mayan, Aztec, Native American, Shamanism, Voudon *or the more western word: Voodoo, to name a few). Going into these types of religions or practices without being let in, not taking it seriously or fucking around is HIGHLY OFFENSIVE and modern mainstream/trendy witchcraft tends to be guilty of a lot cultural appropriation so be careful and don't be a dick.
Right after those two important things, this is what you can look at afterwards. As you research you should be jotting what catches your eye or basic information you need down in a notebook that either is your actual or is your temporary Book of Shadows. (* beside the ones you absolutely need/highly reccomend you look at, everything else is research inspiration for you)
*Grounding/Meditation.
*Protection: Casting Circles, Banishing, Cleansing, Wards, Protective Herbs/Crystals/etc, Protection Spells.
*Different Types of Magick: Herbs, Kitchen, Tea, Candle/Flame, Colour are good places to start looking at.
*Book of Shadows/Grimoire: What they are, what the difference is and inspiration for how you want yours to look.
*The Rules: The Rule of Three, When you can Substitute Ingredients/Steps in a Spell/Ritual, Magick that is Frowned Upon (*cough* Creepy Fucking Love Spells), etc.
*Why Spells may not work/How they can go wrong/How you can fix this when it happens (Which it will, we all fuck up at some stage).
*Your country/local area's history and if witchcraft is included in it: Fun fact, the county in Ireland I'm from is where the only Christian accused of heresy and magick was "trailed" (she got away and disappeared off the face of the earth), you'd be surprised about what you may discover about where you are.
Altars: What you need for it, what you need it for, how to maintain it.
Altar Tools: Athames, Wands, Cauldrons, etc. What they're for and how to maintain them.
Divination: Tarot, Pendulum, Scrying, etc.
Herb/Crystal Properties: What they're associated with, what they encourage, what they discourage, etc.
Dream Interpretation.
Moon Phases: What each phase means, how it is incorporated into spells.
Astrology: Your star sign(??), etc (I know piss all about astrology, it's something I never use, I just know when Mercury is in Retreograde it's bad but a lot of witches do use it, I'm sorry that's all I know).
Sabbaths: The history, the dates they're on, what each one is celebrating, rituals and spells to perform on each one, traditions associated with each one.
Those are just the ones off the top of my head, there's hundreds of topics you could look at. As you research more and more you'll get the hang of it. If you have a question in your head, research until you get the answer. Now this may seem extreme but you should be in this phase of JUST research for a minimum of 6 months to a year MINIMUM before you would be ready to actually practice. You never stop researching either, if you keep this on 20 years down the road you will still be researching then. Do not rush this phase, it'll come back around and bite you if you go into this without knowing what you're at.
Okay, What do I Need?
Again, not all of these are necessary or easy for people to get. This is simply what I started off with.
A Place to Practice- Now you won't be practising anything as a baby witch for a good few months but the place where you will eventually use to cast spells and such is a good place to go to do research and to meditate. This can be any space you choose, your room, a place in your garden, under a tree somewhere, just somewhere you can find peace of mind and truly immerse yourself in learning your practice (Please use common sense, don't pick a graveyard or somewhere where horrible things have happened, be respectful or you'll get your ass kicked by entities otherwise).
An Altar- Now this is optional but most witches tend to have an altar, totally up to you though.
Incense or Sage/Your Other Cleansing Method- You will need some way to clean your space after spells and to keep safe. Use what works for you.
White Candles- You are going to be using candles and there's usually no way around that. White can substitute any colour in most rituals or spells and you find them easy enough. Tea light candles you can bulk buy can work for nearly all spells unless they state otherwise.
A Notebook- This will act as your trial Book of Shadows, when I started out I bought a €1 Notebook to act as my Book of Shadows/roughwork book for when I wrote my first few spells and the information I researched/needed. I revisit this notebook when I am coming up with a new spell, despite having an actual Book of Shadows now and honestly it's the handiest thing that I still use as a practicing witch.
BOOKS- I cannot stress this enough, using just one form or research (the internet, for example) is generally a bad idea as you could be missing out on key information that is published in Witchcraft books. Plus a lot of researching is simply cross referencing information from various different sources. I can make a list of books and websites I used to research as a beginner (and still use now of course) in a seperate post (I'll link it here if I ever get round to it). Of course, if your family would not like to have a witch in it then by all means keep safe and use the internet until you're out of that situation.
A Pendulum- If you are looking to go into divination then a pendulum is the easiest place to start. You can get a specfic crystal or make your own using string and a weight (a paperclip will do) or even use a necklace you own.
A few Crystals- Now don't go crazy, especially if you don't plan on using crystals in your practice, just try get your hands on a few standard, common crystals like clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, etc. See what they bring into your life and your Craft, don't knock it until you try it.
You do not need to spend loads of money to get started in Witchcraft, hell you could probably start practicing with like three things from that supply list if you tried hard enough. As you go along, you'll figure out what you need to buy.
Right, I've done my year or two of Research, I'm ready for my first spell!
Great! Here are some appropriate places to start:
A spell jar (for protection, self love, encouragement of creativity, whatever)
A bath spell (again, for something simple)
Literally anything that comes up when you search "Beginner Witch/Baby Witch Spells" on Google.
Here are some places you should stay the fuck away from when you are beginning to practice:
Deity work (Just read my post if you need convincing)
Spirit Work (Self Explanatory)
Love Spells (Just don't do them at all like, they're gross unless you've gotten consent from the other person)
Blood/Any Bodily Fluid Magick
Sex Magick
Anything you see in movie witchcraft, just don't, it looks cool but it's not real.
If it involves you being put in a dangerous situation you may not know how to get out of if things go wrong, then don't do it. You need to have done a good number of spells under your belt and to be sure in your protection magick abilities to move on to any of that shit and that doesn't happen on day one. Before my first Séance I spent about three months researching in preparation just for a ten minute session, as well as making like two protection jars and like fifty sigils for a ward, you need to do extensive and intense research before committing to anything that is not putting herbs in a bottle because of all the shit that could go wrong and the consequences of that.
Just use common sense, as you learn more about what you're doing you'll figure out what you need and what you are capable of in your practice.
Transition: This is YOUR Practice.
I can give you all these places to start but at the end of the day, Witchcraft is an entirely individual experience for each and everyone who ventured into it. You may have to change common things that don't work for you (E.g, I'm asthmatic so I'm not able to use sage or incense all the time but I own and can use a cleansing bell when I need to) and that's 100% grand like, when it comes to the intimate details of your Craft no one can control that. So take some inspiration from this (and hopefully the advice too), open up a book or website, start reading and enjoy your journey.

how to deal with a witchy burnout
most of us have been there. we lose our touch with the craft and don’t feel like doing much. we feel too tired and exhausted to put effort in it and sometimes we feels like there’s no point.
here are some tips on how to get out of this sticky situation! 🌙
drink tea ✨
yes, you heard me! drinking teas with specific herbs (like chamomile for sleep, lavender for anxiety, etc.) will help you get in tune with herbal magick. you can also stir your tea clockwise to bring forward something (like good energy or calmness) or add a sigil on the bottom with some honey (doesn’t have to be perfect). 🍵✨🌸
nature walk ✨
get in tune with those energies outside! i always find a walk on the grass helps pick up my mood (especially barefoot!!). envision the energies from the earth flowing into your body 🌱🌎🍃
witchy movie ✨
sometimes, we just need a little inspo to bring us back to our craft. watching witchy movies can bring back that spark into us! some great movies i recommend are:
the craft
hocus pocus
the love witch
practical magic
charmed (a show)
carrie
the vampire diaries (a show)
tarot ✨
start off with one card if more than that feels like it would tire you. it’s ok! you can do one in the morning by asking a simple question like “what should i focus on today?” 🔮✨💜
food ✨
incorporate some magick into the food you eat! this isn’t hard at all, especially since we all eat food everyday. simply add an intent to an herb or spice and then add it into your food. for example, add cinnamon onto your oatmeal, with your intent being that you will have abundance 🥐🍦🍩
songs ✨
songs are great to get you back into magick! listen to pagan music, celtic songs, or just look up “witchcraft songs,” “wiccan songs,” or “pagan songs” on spotify🌛🤍🌜
gratitude ✨
this one’s real simple! when you wake up, thank the universe that you got to live to see another day. you can even journal it. breathe in the air and think of how grateful you are that you’re able to do that. soak in the sun’s rays and feel the heat. 🌞🌼💛
final words...
it’s ok to take breaks! nothing wrong with that. it’s human. appreciate yourself as a person. remember, you are magickal and divine no matter how many burnouts you have. burnouts happen to nearly everyone and it’s completely normal! 🍄🐥🌈

Grimoire - Fruit Correspondents
Third time writing this since the last two went wrong :\ anyway, I really enjoyed writing these pages they were really fun to write and they turned out really pretty. I learnt so much about fruit and how amazing they are for your health and to use in witchcraft for spells and potions. I definitely am considering taking up kitchen witchcraft now. Let me know if you’d want to see page 2 of the correspondents, as well as a surprise alongside them. Also, please give me some suggestions on what else I could study, as I’m kinda coming to a standstill.
Also I really love you guys messaging me for help and advice, as well as all the compliments I get about my grimoire <3 please keep it up!

What to do when you fell out with your practice
Because I sure as hell needed this post when I did.
1. Realize that it‘s okay. Accept that it happened. Forgive yourself for it.
Maybe life got in the way and you just didn‘t have the time or energy or possibility. Maybe something happened on your path that got you scared, frightened, panicked, or even disgusted so that you had to take a step back and retreat. Maybe your focus simply shifted. Maybe you got bored. Maybe everything just got overwhelming and you weren‘t able to juggle magick and the mundane at the same time. Maybe mental illness got in the way. No matter what the reason for your fall out was, accept that it happened, forgive yourself for it. Because it‘s okay, life happens in phases, and no matter the reason, how big or how small, it‘s part of your journey and totally fine. These things happen to the best of us, so don‘t blame yourself for it. It really is okay. Pinky promise.
2. Reconnect with your god(s) and/or non-physical friends, if needed.
If you‘re a spirit companion/have spirit friends like me or are devoted to a god or certain deity/ies, your time with them/devotion to them probably fell under the brick as well. If it did, reconnect. I promise chances are they‘ll understand. As I said, life happens, and they know that too. They probably saw what you were going through. Explain what happened to them, apologize, and move on, if they allow it. Just spend more time with them again, greet them good morning and wish them good night again, invite them to join you throughout your day again. I promise, any good relationship will hold, just show that you really are sorry and put in effort to show that you care again. I’m sure they missed you as well so it’s time to make up for the time you lost!
3. Don’t overwhelm and overestimate yourself.
Chances are the longer your fall-out was, the more your “psychic muscles” lost in strength. Your intuition may be a bit more out-of-tune, you may have more trouble hearing/seeing/feeling/sensing spirits and energies. Maybe you have more trouble programing things or adding energy to objects than before. That’s okay! It’s totally fine and normal, just don’t be surprised if it happens and know that with practice you’ll be back to old strength in no time! Until then, start small and work with what you have.
4. Start small, don’t rush it, one step at a time.
Start drawing a daily or weekly card again. Start carrying crystals with you again. Start laying them out under the moon to charge again. Do small rituals like maybe doing some bath magic before you rush head-first into a huge complicated thing again! Again, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Also, you want to build a routine again to not risk falling out again. Some ideas on what to do when building your practice up again:
lay crystals, items, water, anything out under the moon/sun to charge
talk to plants
draw a daily/weekly card
pick a crystal to carry with you throughout the day in the morning
say mantras in the morning
infuse your tea/coffee with intent
send out your energetic sensers when comfortable and at home. slowly but surely
meditate. 5 minutes in the evening, 5 minutes in the morning. at least.
go for a daily walk at a certain time
look through your grimoire/bos if you have one. write in it again
doodle little sigils in your free time
and many, many more
5. If needed, make a schedule.
As I said, you may want to build a routine. If those work for you, make a daily or weekly plan. Look up transits and check when you have time, then create your own magical schedule. If need be, set some reminders on your phone. Just try to be disciplined about it for a while so that you get back into your practice smoothly!
6. Reinvent your craft.
You probably changed since you last practiced, or maybe there was a reason IN your practice that caused the fall-out. If so, identify what it was. Reflect on yourself, your practice, your life. How can you make everything run together more smoothly? Maybe you want to focus more on the mundane than the spiritual, and if so that’s totally fine. Adapt your practice in a way that fits and feels good, it’s all yours so feel free to do whatever you want! Maybe you want to shift the focus IN your practice, or maybe you want to stop doing something, maybe start doing something else (instead).
(Optional) 7. Talk to others.
Sometimes it is so, so hard to not feel incredibly bad and like you fucked yourself or your life or your relationships up when this happens (and not just in relation to magic but other things as well). Please know that you’re not alone on this and if your own up-lifting thoughts and words are not enough, seek validation outside. I promise that’s not a selfish or vain thing to do, it’s natural and human and you deserve to be told that you’re doing just fine. Go to a trusted friend, family member, maybe blogger, anyone. If you want, you can always come to me. Talk to someone about how things are going now, talk to them about the things you just did to make yourself feel good about doing this.
💗 No matter what, it’s all good. I promise. These things just happen and there is no reason to blame yourself - please take good care of yourself and know that you come first - magic and everything else second.  I hope this was useful to some, I know it helped me as I’m just getting out of a fall-out, too. I hope you all have a magical day~! 💗

Cleansing (Without Sage)
I hate sage. I can’t stand the smell, I don’t like the taste, or the energetic feel. Perhaps it’s because of my taste for the… Darker arts, but regardless, I don’t use the stuff. I know what you’re all thinking, “However will I cleanse my house or my possessions without wafting the stench of Thanksgiving dinner over everything I own, thought of owning, or accidentally spit on once some many years ago.”
Easy. There are so many other options.
I’m, unabashedly, what I like to call an “herbs, sticks, stones and bones” witch – in that I mean, I don’t do crystals, or metals (often, though I do love copper), or anything that has to be mined really – salts and minerals being my exception. I also believe in using LOCAL herbs. Sure, you can go out to the super market and pick up this or that, order whatever your heart desires online, but I’ve always believed that a witch has certain responsibilities to her/his community and a witch has always been tasked with working with what is at their disposal.
There’s something meaningful about going out into whatever nature you find yourself in and identifying and collecting that which is around you. It ties you to that land on which you work and connects you to the people with whom you share it with.
That being said, I try to identify and collect all of my own herbs from here in my region. Given that I live in a national forest (and have never been opposed to trespassing on public or private property in the name of gathering what I need) I have roughly 100 different herbs/plants/etc (I’m including seeds and fungi) all of which might serve a myriad of purposes.
Digressing back to cleansing, my preferred sage alternatives:
Red or Yellow or White Rose Stems (I gather them in a bundle of roughly a dozen and dry them completely) – can be used in place of sage, no matter what any “correspondence” would say; simply light the ends and smudge as you would with sage, though relighting is necessary more regularly than with leafier matter.
Strands of dried, hot peppers hung above each door to keep the wayward from entering; can be used in addition to brick dust, barberry and step-wash if you’re REALLY trying to keep someone or something out.
Floor washes are PERFECT for cleansing and laundry lists of different recipes will be given you by any number of rootworkers, mambos, or any practitioners of what I like to call Foot-Track Magic. Used to draw as much as they are to ward. Vinegars and spirits are your best friend, though.
In fact, vinegar in itself can be AMAZING for cleansing (and cleaning – but this isn’t a domestic arts column) when used alone or with baking soda (inorganic). Which you can mix to have elementary, chemical reaction fun, or used separately.
Cinnamon (not cassia, make sure you’re getting actual cinnamon – this is one imported resource I never go without, because it’s good for almost anything) is great in both washes and dusts, even in loose incense (don’t bother with sticks or cones, you can never trust what goes in).
For those who prefer the inorganic, I recommend:
Epsom Salt (unscented; general cleansing; wet with just a touch of alcohol, then lit on fire and wafted thusly – can even be placed in jars and put into each room to collect the mounting grossness)
Equal parts: Black Salt (Kala Namak, none of that lava salt BS), Sulfur Powder and Table Salt; for matters of troublesome spirits; sprinkle, sweep/vacuum, and dispose of the collected powder at the edge of your property or in a nearby cemetery.
As mentioned, baking soda, paired with regular salt and left to collect unpleasantness works beautifully. This can even be added to water to make a step-wash or harness gathered negativity for whatever means you deem fit.
This is only a short list of possibly options, but for those others who aren’t fond of the toxic smell of sage, I’ve done my best to offer simple, and accessible solutions for nearly anyone in any given locale.
What’s more, most of these actually REMOVE smell instead of attempting to cover it up! Which I think probably says a lot about their nature comparatively.
Hope to have helped, Q

Wealth Spell
* Five coins * Two green candles * Green or gold ribbon or string * Something to write with/on * Green aventurine * Sigil for wealth (one made by yourself is more powerful)
1. (Optional) Spell opening rituals
2. Set up: aventurine in the middle, four coins surrounding it, and the two candles on either side; light the candles
3. Draw the sigil and write the desired amount
4. Place one of the coins and the aventurine on the paper and tie it with the string/ribbon while visualizing the bundle drawing wealth to you
5. Keep the bundle on you until you feel that you have gained the desired amount
6. (Optional) Spell closing rituals
If you feel that the spell has stopped working before you reach your goal, then disassemble the bundle, recharge the aventurine, redraw the sigil, and rewrite the amount.
