sick of this whole narrative in the mw fandom that Jimmy is some massive manipulator who intentionally did everything he did. bro’s in such a deep psychosis for a good bit of the game that he’s seeing horse centipede babies and thinks a giant purple ghost horse head in the sky is gonna kill him if he makes too much noise. yeah that guys clearly stable and is fully aware and planning out all of his actions. btw this is NOT saying he isn’t a disgusting pos and he still IS manipulative and selfish most certainly but people r acting like he’s some evil villain who planned all of that. Mr head in hands mumbling outside the cockpit imagining deformed pollie statue is chasing him baby cries in the background after crashing the ship sure. most stable guy I know names jimmy
#he's so fucking stupid and pathetic </3#mmm the fact that so much of his shit is the result of his own incompetence just makes it all so much sadder#if he just. fucking. thought ahead for a second??? bothered to think of the consequences before acting??? he's so stupiddddd#but he fascinates me the rare few fics that get his unstable patheticness right are so good lol#im exaggerating ofc when i call him stupid. he's just so bullyable lol. but yeah the fact that he isn't some mastermind is pretty important

crazy that gravity falls was like, hey what if we made twin brothers, and one of them is the worse one. he gets bad grades, he likes to punch his problems, everyone thinks of him as “the other one.” he’s engulfed in a shadow that’s shaped like him. he doesn’t even have his own name—it’s derived of his brother’s name, the only one his parents planned on having and using. everything about him is derivative—imitative of another person (his twin brother) (the one everyone likes and wants) and is disapproved of for that reason (he isn’t just “bad at this thing,” he’s “not as good as his brother”). and then he ruins his brother’s science fair project (the one next to his own—no one noticed it because it’s not good, it’s almost stupid next to a “perpetual motion machine” made by a high schooler) (he tried to fix it) (he doesn’t know how; he’s not as smart as the guy who made it) and he gets kicked out. the potential of the money his twin could’ve made is enough to throw him onto the street, and he can’t go home until he makes that money back (the money that was never gained and therefore was never lost. he never had a chance of making enough). he took every job he could (his brother went to school). he got banned from multiple states (his brother bought a house). he traveled internationally and went to prison and had people try to hunt him down and kill him because he couldn’t make enough money (his brother’s house has three basements. he made them himself, as secure as can be). and when his twin finally summons him for help, things go wrong (he messed up this machine like the last one) (he doesn’t know how to fix it. he isn’t as smart as the guy who made it) (he tries to fix it) (he was never any good at reading and these blueprints are impossible, coded and fragmented and in a science that he didn’t know existed) (he tries to fix it). the townspeople ask who he is, and he doesn’t even say his own name (it was hardly his to begin with). and he invites them to a house that isn’t his to show off experiments that aren’t his because he needs to make money that can’t be his. everything he does for the next 30 years is in his twin’s name, for his twin’s sake. he had two funerals for himself and it isn’t even his body in the casket; he had to wear his brother’s name to both of them. if he had died before he fixed the portal, that funeral wouldn’t have been for him. we meet him as a funny and unique character, but in-universe, he’s only ever been defined by someone else.
and then they went, this is entirely in the background btw. most of that is going to be revealed in one episode and won’t be addressed again. he’s a primary comic relief, even. I’m ill about this.

anyway one more thing that drives me insane about the burning curly scene is the way jimmy physically places him above himself for his shitty non-apology like hes a merciful god whose forgiveness he begs for. loathing and deification are just two sides of the dehumanization coin!! curly cant just be a person who is disabled. he has to be less or more than human because of what jimmy put him through.

MothWashing sketches
AU details under cut
I like Mothman. I like Mouthwashing.
Thus, MothWashing was born.
Basically, Jim and Anya are ‘monster hunters’ and host an internet show where they go out and try to find these monsters. Very Buzzfeed Unsolved coded. Anya is this crazy conspiracy lady who believes with her whole heart these monsters are real. Jim is a skeptic who isn’t taking any of this seriously and is a dick the whole time. They never catch any of these monsters, either because they really are just myths or because Jim is being such an asshole even the ghouls don’t want to be around him.
Things change during the Mothman episode. They actually find him… well, he finds them. Shenanigans ensue.
Also MothCurly has a tendency to eat people. Oops.

FELLOW DAISUKE HIPPOGRIFF/SEAPONY TRUTHER MAYBE??????????? HELLO HI YES, Pleeeeeeasssseeeee elaborate on your designs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh god, the fact that Curly's cutiemark looks so similar to the Pony Express logo waaahhhhhhh... It's also a very interesting choice to have him be an Earth Pony and Jimmy be a Pegasus-- I usually see it the other way around! I'd love to know about that choice! And Anya with her curved horn and dappled patterning.......... she like da moon......
And Swansea and Daisuke, or rather Aoi and Big Swans... Love when birds is bords lol I love how Swansea's a Griffon to further show that connection to feathered creatures, and that Daisuke still has a name with symbolic meaning! Or at least I think so? "Aoi" means two things right, Hollyhock flowers and the color blue? Representing, potentially, how he has two feet in both worlds as a young adult moving from his teenage years to the working world perhaps?
I think I've talked long enough though and I'd love to hear your process with them!! :>
HIPPOGRIFFS ARE SO PEAK i literally only made him a hippogriff because i remember griffon society in mlp being a Certain Way that fits swansea's "not my circus not my monkeys" mentality and well, wouldnt it be cool if daisuke was also a sort of birdy creature but not quite a griffon. i love hippogriffs and i will make characters i really really like hippogriffs unless i have very good reasons to not do so lmao
i do want to make a full character sheet lineup for them because Hoo Boy do i have ideas! but in very short, yeah i thought a lot about curly but ended up going with an earth pony, specifically a draught horse. hes not super special hes just a big guy that can take on a Lot of work so he does well in his job (that he oops! made his entire life), which jimmy hates because hes also not super special but he has wings and he clings onto that a bit too hard. as much as curly is his friend he does have a festering frustration with how an earth pony is ranking above him, hope it wont lead him down a path he cannot go back on! :) this also bleeds into how he doesnt respect anya as much as daisuke or swansea, who do have wings and as such are more fit for delivery work (according to him).
basically the deal breaker for whether curly should be a pegasus or an earth pony was this! in canon he and anya are jimmy's main targets so i thought it would make sense that theyre the only two members of the crew who dont have wings, something that jimmy thinks about a lot more than either of them because, well, they still have physical strength or unicorn magic, theyre doing just fine.
ive already addressed swansea, but one more thing about daisuke is yes his name!! "aoi" does have multiple meanings, one being, yes, hollyhock but also mallow flowers in general that include hibiscus ( :)) ) and another being, yes, "blue", which can also refer to someone "green" or inexperienced! although what you say about "being in two worlds" wasnt originally my intention, it actually kinda works with his hippogriff shapeshifting (๑•̆૩•̆)

Damn, as much as I love people slowly but surely exploring Curly and Jimmy's friendship and all the toxic and codependent shit there is to it, I DON'T like how people seem to infantilize Curly when it comes to his relationship with Jimmy. I get him being oblivious and letting a lot of things slide, but my dude would definitely caught on if he was genuinely treated like shit. I was on a receiving end of toxic friendships, and the tragedy of it (and of Jimmy and Curly by extension) is not being oblivious to abuse, it's about trying to convince yourself that good outweighs the bad, that your friend treated you like shit, yes, but he also done a lot for you back in the day, so you just let it slide this time. And another time. And the time after that. I genuinely believe that Jimmy cares and that his interactions with Curly are not always built on demeaning him or abusing him, he can be empathetic. And I also believe that Curly is a grown ass man, not an imbecile, and if Jimmy consistently treated him like shit, he would not stick by him the way he does in the story.
The tragedy of JimCurly is that they have good memories, they have good moments, but that doesn't stop the emotional (and post-crash, physical) abuse Jimmy inflicts, whatever reason he may have for that.

Jimmy's apology to Curly is bullshit. At least it is to me. First the only thing Jimmy is apologizing for is taking the Captain position from Curly. Nothing else. Because it's just Jimmy handing responsibility over to Curly again, you know scapegoating him. This is why he doesn't apologize to Daisuke or Swansea despite clearly feeling bad about them. This is why he doesn't even think of Anya.
Jimmy's not actually sorry for hurting Curly. There's no "Sorry I beat you and force fed you meds" or "Sorry I verbally abused you in front of the entire crew" or even "Sorry I ate your leg". Instead we get "You were right being Captain is hard, you be Captain again cause you're better than me. Also let me pretend to save you so I feel like a hero". Yeah Jimmy's only sorry he got himself into more trouble than he could handle even if he feels bad about how some of the crew ended up.

Something that really bothers me is how people write Jimmy to be this horrible, all knowing cruel entity that isn't human.. but also write in the fact that he actively enjoys being like this too. At no point in the game does Jimmy ever express he's having fun or enjoying himself doing what he does.
People write him like he's intentionally harmful, abusive, cruel and selfish when all he ever expresses in the game is an overwhelming sense of shame, self doubt and anxiety over everything he does. Paranoid, flighty, escalates situations for no reason, constantly on his back legs getting ready to bite and kick all the time. Doesn't this all line up with the potential of him to being apart of the cycle of abuse?
Jimmy isn't a crazed maniac with a insatiable bloodlust, to me, he seems like a caged, wild animal that just scratches and bites everything it can, protective of itself to a fault in self-destruction, but so wrapped up in his self-loathing and inferiority complex. Making him out to be a ruthless, pathological abuser and a murderer right from the start discredits everything about his character and the people that are like him, the people that find relatability in his panic and temperament.
Jimmy is a victim too, of his own self-destruction most definitely, but he is very much apart of the abuse that is the capitalist hellhole he lives in, even if he momentarily benefits from it.

I think it’s good to remember Jimmy doesn’t revel in others misery more so feels less miserable when people are as unhappy as he is. The acts he does do not bring him any pleasure, it’s more so the ending effect and reward and even then he’s not exactly happy just content in not feeling lesser.
It’s very easy to characterize his behavior as something cartoonishly villainous and cathartic and, while their is some catharsis there, it is ultimately the case of him acting out deep internalized feelings and frustrations against other people (possibly even himself) that he doesn’t necessarily like doing or even feel relief doing.
It’s both a conscious and unconscious behavior of his that too often gets chalked up to “Jimmy likes/gets off to tormenting others” and it’s a little one note to what is actually displayed in game.
#this part of him is so important to me actually auhhgh#see too many fan works that have him revelling in the shit he does

this post by scrawnym4 has made me realize something that pisses me off.
the downside of having a genuinely bad character that a fandom hates is that the fandom will be so annoying about it and never bother to analyze them and their plot in the story and/or refuse to even properly talk about the character in a serious way.
if someone dares to say they like that character or (even worse) are in some way attracted to that character (or even WORSE WORSE) somehow relate in a way to said bad character they're told they condone character's actions in REAL life and told to die (or some other 'you're a bad person' jargon).
maybe the mouthwashing fandom has jaded me a little because because that post mainly reminded me about jimmy.
like, most don't even say jimmy's name. they censor it? for some fucking reason? shit was funny at first, cause i thought they were kinda playing on how swansea called him jimbo, but it got so annoying so fucking quick.
also, small nitpick, can we stop amplifying that bad and/or "evil" people stink "naturally"? cause i'm tired of the concept of being dirty and not washing a thing only "bad" people are/do, thanks.
adding this cause a lot of people claim jimmy, who's a canonical rapist, doesn't shower or wash or generally take care of himself because he's "evil" and a bad person. can we please stop this? cause jimmy canonically washes and showers. he even said in game he misses the showers!
also just in general people do this it's NOT just a mouthwashing problem it's a people problem, it's even in scrawnym4's crude doodle of "bad guy mcweirdson", he apparently "stinks really bad". why? who knows, it was more than likely a random "trait" they pulled out of their head they found annoying or bad. (i'm not them idk. also this is NOT an attack or call out do NOT assume it is, jesus christ!!!).
it's fucking annoying regardless. how clean someone is does NOT dictate who they are or how they act.
bad characters can be bad but either get mischaracterized or extremely infantilized. i'm not even gonna bring in sexualization, by the way, cause i've seen more accurate character analysis from people that wanna fuck "evil" characters than the ones that wanna remain "pure and wholesome".
i've notice a lot of people can't tolerate genuinely bad characters cause half the time they're human. and who want's to realize that any random person can be bad?
like i've noticed a LOT of "villains" and bad people in fiction aren't even people half the time, and if they are they have super natural powers. they're fictionalized.
mouthwashing makes people realize that ANYONE can be a bad person. jimmy is just a fucking GUY. he's not this supernatural evil entity that lurks in the darkness.
he's a middleaged man that raped a woman.
and people hate this. they hate realism. they refuse to even look into his character or even bother to entertain him outside of his actions because making characters soley one thing is something i've seen VERY RECENTLY that's making me just as mad.
jimmy isn't just a rapist. curly isn't just an enabler. anya isn't just a victim. they all have their own roles within the game and how they interact with each other.
does this make sense? genuinely.
#i find him to be fascinating as a character and yeeaaarrnnn for detailed analyses of him#a couple fics really dig into it and they're so good#.. but a good majority of them make him cartoonishly evil and ugh. uugghhh#the most fascinating part of him to me is how human he is. he's largely just A Guy#thats part of it too. it's accurate. real humans arent cartoonishly evil. they can appear normal then turn around and do the worst things
