Christmas Party!
The younger club members were treated to an afternoon of fun and games! Santa's elves were on hand to help and assist with arts and crafts and kindly organised a few games. After a few snacks and nibbles, they were delighted that Santa was able to interrupt his busy schedule to stop off and deliver a few presents. There were wide eyes and smiles all round.

Fun and games wasn’t restricted to the children though! Later in the evening, we enjoyed an ingenious game of Rheindeer racing and much fun was had with balloons, although most of the photos are not fit for publication 🤭
Many thanks to Dave, Mim and Adrian for devising the games, to all who took part and to everyone else for making it such a fun night!

Pike Fishing Competition
Despite inclement weather and an early start on a cold autumnal day, intrepid anglers aged 7 to 70, braved the conditions and competed in the annual MNCC pike fishing competition. Fishing was initially slow with an occasional knock to a lure before AlanL got things moving with a nice hen fish weighing in at 5.51 kg. TonyR followed with a nice fish at 3.78 kg whilst Tom had a brace on the south shore of the pool, with the best fish topping 3.35kg. A consolation Jack pike for Steve rounded up a sluggish day, but despite a nice Perch of just over 2lb for Tony, no-one could overhaul Alan’s earlier beauty (which sadly wasn’t photographed in anticipation of something bigger!).
Commodore DaveP presented the massive trophy (its a fishing competition so superlatives allowed!) to Alan. Thanks to William for acting as weighing master and Freddie for providing some levity on a dull day. Sophie’s mum Sharon kept anglers plied with a strange brew at half time, but her support was greatly appreciated.

Bonfire Night!
Despite the dreadful weather, we had a good turnout to see the fireworks and the bonfire burned warm and bright. Many thanks to DaveB, DaveW, IanC and PhilM for putting on a spectacular show in difficult circumstances! A small profit was made on the fireworks, more than compensated for by a really great turnout in the bar, which was packed out, enticed by a supper of Chilli or Giant hotdogs. Thanks to Linda and Pete for heroically catering for nearly 100 people!

Laying Up Supper and Halloween Party
Well attended again this year, with almost 30 people enjoying a three course meal of fish cake, cod in a white wine sauce and a choice of dessert, all prepared and cooked by Danny. Behind the scenes, a team of helpers assisted with service and washing up over the two sittings.
The bar was extremely well decorated by Trudi and helpers, creating a fun atmosphere with spiders webs, pumpkins and other ghostly decorations, and there was plenty of fun to be had! Dress the Mummy, and prizes for the best dressed Male and Female; well done Rob & Trudi!
Later in the evening, a quiz took place that tested our knowledge of music, tv themes, and facts about our river. Thanks to Graham Newell for the Quiz and Kim and team were the winners!
A great success!

October 19th Work Party
Very successful work party, despite the low turnout (83 compared with a maximum of 110 on some occasions). Look at all the jobs ticked off the list - actually, some jobs were done that didn’t even make the list!
Key jobs were taking down the Marquee, improved security measures and clearing the moorings of debris caused by the recent high water.
A well deserved lunch of soup and rolls, with the tomato soup being a real winner judging by how quickly it disappeared!
‘Well done - everybody did very well, did more than was on list!’ Dave Brooke

October Work Party - Barrels of Fun!
A record 94 barrels were painted at the work party! 18 replaced the barrels used to float the pontoons in the big pond and 24 in the paint dock. Looks like we have a great stock of shiny barrels to keep us afloat for a while!
