Darth Vader's scaling part 5

Regarding the dark lord's speed and abilities.

The dark lord's combat speed, would easily fall into the ftl (faster than light) ranges.

Blasters are described as firing light.

"The most commonly used weapon throughout the galaxy, blasters fire intense beams of light energy that can either stun or kill."

"Energy weapons fire invisible energy beams at lightspeed. The visible "bolt" is a glowing pulse that travels along the beam at less than lightspeed."

Vader is able to deflect blaster bolts, from all sides.

"Wings uplifted, the shuttle made a rough landing on the tier, bolts from Wookie blasters careening from the fuselage. When the boarding ramp had extended, Appo and his stormtroopers hurried outside, Vader right behind him, his ignited blade deflecting fire from all sides."

Vader is able to fight old ben, who hadn't lost any of his skill or speed.

"It was fortunate for Ben that he had continued his Jedi exercises on Tatooine, that he had not allowed his reflexes to become dull. "

Kenobi, in the clone wars, was able to deflect blaster fire from all sides.

"An instant later the force had him hurling through a storm of blasterfire as every combat droid in the control center opened up on him at once. Letting go of intention, letting go of desire, letting go of life, Obi-Wan fixed his entire attention on a thread of the force that pulled him towards Grievous: not where Grievous was, but where Grievous would be, when obi-wan got there. With all of this, it's easy to see that the dark lord's reaction time is easily in the faster than light ranges.

But the dark lord's abilities also do not disappoint.

Vader's presence makes his enemies feel fear.

"Vader's mere presence was enough to weaken even the bravest heart. He was ruthless, and when he focused his terrible mind on them, Tash felt dark ripples of the force wash over her, threatening to drown her in pure evil."

Vader is able to blow up the crystals within lightsabers.

"Vader stood motionless, the weapon's hilt still gripped in his outstretched fist. She could see a tiny wisp of smoke curling from the emitter. He had overloaded the lightsaber's energy crystal through the force."

Vader can use the force to stun his opponents.

"Vader held up one finger and they both froze, held in place by the power of the dark side."

Due to Vader's unrestricted access to the jedi temple, he would more than likely, have many many more abilities, due to the fact that even a single holocron can hold near infinite knowledge.

"Where anakin had limited access to the jedi temple data room, vader- even light-years from Coruscant- could peruse any data he wished, including archival records, ancient texts, and holocrons fashioned by past masters."

The archives hold seemingly infinite knowledge

"Ever since the ancient origins of the jedi order, knowledge and its mastery have been vital to the jedi mission of supporting peace and justice throughout the republic. The great archives library in the jedi temple safeguards the accumulated knowledge gathered by millions of individuals over hundreds of generations. It is a repository of seemingly infinite information on every part of the known galaxy and on billions upon billions of its inhabitants. The archives is the greatest library in the republic, and an incomparable asset to the jedi, whether they are acting as diplomats, counselors, or fighters."

The only known sith holocrons are in the archives.

A single sith holocron can hold near infinite information.

"Using freedon nad's holocron as a blueprint, he had recreated the intricate matrix of lattices and vertices that were the key to storing ndarly infinite amounts of knowledge in a data system small enough to fit in the palm of a hand."

So with all of this, we can see that Darth vader has ftl reaction speed, amazing force Abilities, and a near infinite amount of knowledge at his fingertips.

And that concludes my breakdown of Darth Vader.

Darth Vader's scaling part 4

Regarding the dark lord's lightsaber skill, in the legends continuity.

Darth vader is not just one of the strongest beings in galactic history, but also one of, if not the most skilled lightsaber combatant.

Darth vader, even Prior to receiving any sith training, was already considered to be the most skilled sith in history.

"You have done well, my new apprentice. Your skills are unmatched by any sith before you."

With that statement, made by sidious himself, vader would be more skilled than maul and dooku. Maul is someone with unparalleled skill.

"In many ways Darth Maul was an exemplary acolyte. His loyalty was unquestionable; sidious knew that, if he were to command it, Maul would sacrifice his life without a second's hesitation. And his skills as a warrior were nonpareil."

Dooku, as a jedi, was already a Match for windu in lightsaber combat.

"In combat, he uses a lightsaber with a curved hilt. Before leaving the jedi order, he was known as one of the greatest duelists, a Match even for mace windu."

Vader can also freely change between his lightsaber style, while in combat.

"Time and again the two jedi knights attempted to alter their style, but vader had an answer for every lunge, parry, and riposte. His style borrowed elements from all techniques of combat, even from the highest, most dangerous levels, and his moves were crisp and unpredictable."

Being able to change your lightsaber style, while in combat, is a sign of mastery

"Wielding a lightsaber may look easy, but it is a difficult skill that requires much training. There are seven Main forms of lightsaber combat. Every jedi has a favorite, but the most skilled can switch between all the styles depending on the Situation."

Darth vader is also an unparalleled lightsaber combatant

"Darth Vader is the embodiment of all evil. Under the guidance of the emperor- aka darth sidious- lord vader controls the galactic empire with an iron fist. He's an unparalleled lightsaber combatant and an even more capable force wielder."

With that statement, vader is a better lightsaber duelist than old Ben. Old Ben was stated to have not lost any of his skill, while in isolation.

"It was fortunate for Ben that he had continued his Jedi exercises on Tatooine, that he had not allowed his reflexes to become dull."

With all of this, it's easy to see that Darth Vader is in his own realm of mastery over lightsaber combat, even when compared to kenobi, maul or dooku.

Darth vader scaling part 3

Since I have already given evidence to believe that vader is above anakin, let us look just how strong the so called "Hero without fear" truly was, in the legends continuity. Keep in mind that I am only going over Anakin's statements, before being put in the suit. I'll Cover Vader's speed, skill with a lightsaber and his abilities in other parts.

Anakin skywalker is stated numerous times to be the strongest Jedi alive, during rots. Here are a few statements, keep in mind that there are more.

Anakin is stated to be the strongest and the fastest Jedi alive.

"This is anakin skywalker:

The most powerful Jedi of his generation. Perhaps of any generation. The fastest. The strongest. An unbeatable pilot. An unstoppable warrior. On the ground, in the air or sea or space, there is no one even close. He has not just power, not just skill, but dash: that rare, invaluable combination of boldness and grace. He is the best there is at what he does. The best there has ever been. And he knows it."

"This makes Anakin, in effect, a jedi master, a rank that Anakin, with his unprecedented power in the force, feels has been long overdue."

Sidious considers anakin to be the most powerful Jedi alive

Yoda thinks that anakin is stronger than any jedi he had ever known.

"Premonitions," he said aloud. Premonitions were a rare Talent for a Jedi, but not unknown. Yoda had searched the paths of the future himself on occasion. No one had done so deliberately in years, however; not since the dark side began to grow, making such foresights dangerous and unreliable. But Anakin was strong in the force, stronger than any jedi Yoda had known in all his hundreds of years."

Anakin is said to be as strong as anyone who ever sat on the jedi council

"Clearly Anakin was as strong in the Force as any Jedi who ever sat on the council."

I will now be going over Anakin's fight with Dooku.

A lot of people have issues with Anakin beating Dooku, and come up with arguments against it.

The first one being that Anakin simply out lasted the count, thus giving him the easy Victory. However, this is blatantly wrong, seeing as dooku was seen rejuvenating himself with the force, being able to keep on fighting

"Dooku himself had stood only moments ago... it was as though he was trying to remember a dream he'd never actually had... He pushed this aside, drawing once more on upon the certain knowledge of his personal invincibility to open a channel to the Force. Power flowed into him, and the weight of his years dropped."

The second "counter" that I have seen, is that dooku never tried to kill anakin, and was only testing him. However, that is also wrong

"These clowns might- just possibly- actually be able to kill him. No sense in taking chances; even his master would agree with that. Lord sidious could come with a new plan more easily than a new apprentice."

It was also stated blatantly that Dooku couldn't Match Anakin's strength

"Dooku felt himself blanch. Where had this come from? Skywalker came on, mechanically inexorable, impossibly powerful, a destroyer droid with a lightsaber: each step a blow and each blow a step. Dooku backed away as fast as he dared; skywalker stayed right on top of him. Dooku's breath went short and hard. He no longer tried to Block skywalker's strikes but only to guide them slanting away; he could not meet skywalker strength-to-strength- not only did the boy wield tremendous reserves of force energy, but his sheer physical power was astonishing- And only then did Dooku understand that he'd been suckered."

The shinning blue lightsaber whirled and spat and every overhand chop crashed against Dooku's defense with the unstoppable power of a meteor strike; the sith lord spent lavishly over his reserve of the Force merely to meet These attacks without being cut in half, and Skywalker- Skywalker was getting stronger. Each parry cost Dooku more power than he'd used to throw Kenobi across the room; each block aged him a decade. He decided he'd best revise his strategy one again. He no longer even tried to strike back. Force exhaustion began to close down his Perceptions, drawing his consciousness back down to his physical form, trapping him within his own skull until he could barely even feel the contours of the room around him; he dimmly sensed stairs at his back, stairs that led up to the entrance balcony. He retreated up them, Skywalker just kept on coming, tirelressly ferocious. That blue blade was everywhere, flashing and whirling faster and faster until dooku saw the room through an electric haze and now Kenobi was back in the picture: with a shout of the Force, he shot like a torpedo up the stairs behind Skywalker, and under These rather extreme circumstances, it was at least arguably permissible for a gentleman to cheat."

There are also just blatant statements, that anakin is much stronger than dooku.

"Sidious then turned his attention to anakin skywalker, knowing that young skywalker was much stronger in the force than darth tyranus."

"Sidious bared his teeth, but only briefly. "Darth tyranus knew what he risked, lord vader. If he had been stronger in the dark side, you would be dead, and he would be my right hand."

Now that I have given evidence that Anakin is above Dooku, let's look at what dooku is capable of.

"With both younger Jedi fallen,Count Dooku seemed victorious. Yoda entered the chamber, however, to challenge the sword master. The two force warriors attempted to defeat each other with displays of telekinesis and other force abilities, but they were too evenly matched. They turned to their lightsabers, and with a masterful display of form IV, Yoda dodged Dooku's attacks. Only when Dooku threatened the fallen Jedi was he able to distract Yoda long enough to escape."

With Anakin being stated to be the strongest Jedi, coupled with the fact that he defeated Dooku rather easily, someone who can stalemate Yoda, I don't think it's hard to believe that Anakin is stronger than rots sidious. Keep in mind that Sidious grows far stronger after rots, so it's not a contradiction.

Keep in mind that Anakin, after falling to the dark side, grows in power.

"You have done well, my apprentice. Do you feel your power growing?" "Yes, my master."

"He could feel his power growing, indeed. He had the measure of his "master" already; not long after palpatine shared the secrets of Darth Plagueis's discovery, their relationship would undergo a sudden... transformation."

Anakin, now being named vader, was said to have unparalleled power, during operation "knightfall". Operation knightfall was the scene of anakin killing Jedi in the temple. Not to be confused with the anakin that fought obi-wan, though.

"Palpatine elevated himself to the position of emperor, and dispatched Vader as his ultimate enforcer. With his unparalleled force abilities, Vader swept through the Jedi temple."

Does that now mean that kenobi, the negotiater, scales to Anakin? No.

Anakin was conflicted, and therefore weakened in his battle with his former master.

"But even sidious hadn't foreseen Anakin's defeat by obi-wan kenobi. Anakin had still been between worlds then, and vulnerable. The failure to defeat his former master had worked to prolong that vulnerability."

Kenobi himself even said that anakin fought with a blind fury, and that he wasn't paying attention to his defense

"My duel with vader was awful in its savagery. In the end, he was more determined to kill me than defend himself, and was blind with fury when I felled him."

With all of These statements, I think it's fair to say that Anakin, at his peak, before needing the suit, was stronger than revenge of the sith palpatine. Again, I am not saying that Anakin is stronger than peak dark empire sidious, I am just saying that Anakin was stronger than rots sidious. With vader being above anakin, multiple times, as I have explained in the previous post.

With this scaling chain being as follows: peak rotj Vader>>>>> knightfall anakin> rots sidious, pre yoda fight>>>> Darth maul.

The reason for "pre yoda fight" is that Sidious grows stronger during the time of Anakin's betrayal and his fight with yoda, due to order 66

"When those blades met, it was more than yoda against palpatine; more than the Millennia of sith against the legions of jedi; this was the expression of the fundamental conflict of the universe itself: light against dark."

Why is that even Important, you may ask. Because sidious, weaker than when he fought yoda, and weaker than knightfall Anakin, who is weaker than rotj vader, ragdolled maul. And maul was stated to be proof that the sith were stronger than ever.

"The mysterious assailant fights with with a double-bladed lightsaber. It is clear that he is highly trained in the ways of the force. He battles the Jedi master with incredible skill and Power. Qui-Gon struggles to cope with Maul's suprising skill and only narrowly escapes when queen amidala's starship picks him up. The jedi is unprepared for the encounter because the sith were believed to be extinct. it is clear from this duel that the sith are very much alive and more powerful than ever."

And sidious casually ragdolls maul, when resorting to the force, in star wars the clone wars season 5 episode 16.

There are also These two statements, making it clear that sidious was never in danger when fighting the brothers.

"Meanwhile, sidious duels the sith brothers, never wavering from his Position of superiority."

Darth Vader's scaling part 2

Since I have already adressed the quote from George Lucas, I will now explain why I think that Vader, at his peak, holds far greater power than anakin skywalker.

Vader, a few months after rots, was stated to access a new threshold of power, stated to have nothing to Do with his armor.

"More important, Vader's bloodlust had been appeased; replaced by self-possession of a sort he had never before experienced. It was as if he had crossed some invisible threshold to a new World. He could feel the power of the dark side Surging through him like an icy torrent. He felt invulnerable in a way that had nothing to Do with his durasteel prostheses, his suit of armor and gadgets, which now seemed little more than an Outfit. And it had taken a Jedi- yet another Jedi- to usher him over that threshold."

Vader is said to come back from defeat, stronger than ever.

"Vader survived, but not unscarred- his shattered body encased in Life-supporting armor and a breath mask. In spite of These handicaps, Vader thrived. In fact, he found a way to turn These to his advantage. He had his breath mask crafted into a sinister black helmet and, donning a Black cloak over his black armor, he became a figure out of a nightmare. From the ashes of defeat, Vader emerged even stronger. Aided by the emperor, Vader continued his own twisted Jedi Training. As he grew in strength, he gained more and more authority and responsibility, rising to become the emperor's right- hand servant."

Vader is said to grow in power, until hitting his peak in rotj.

"Even his own generals could not escape Vader's wrath and, as time went by, the sith's powers grew even stronger. Anakin Skywalker had been a brave pilot and highly skilled with a lightsaber, but the dark side of the force continued to corrupt the mind of Darth Vader. He would strangle people without even touching them and he could read the thoughts and feelings of others."

Vader is also stated stronger than kar vastor.

"Vader was as tall as Vastor had been, but probably massed a good twenty kilos less. He wasn't physically impressive in the same way; no masculature was visible under the Black armor. It didn't matter. There was no doubt in Nick's mind that, were Kar Vastor somehow to be pitted against Darth Vader, the feral Balawai renegade wouldn't stand a Chance. The Force was powerful in Vader; even the dim wattage of Nick's connection could feel that. It was far more powerful than it had been in Kar Vastor. It had pulsed from Vastor in waves of fury, blasted like an open furnace. In Vader, it was- contained. Pent."

Why is that impressive? Because kar vastor is far stronger than windu

"Vastor was younger, stronger, faster, and immensely more powerful, and he wielded weapons that could not be harmed by the Jedi blade. Mace couldn't win such a battle on his best day, and this day was far from his best: he was exhausted, badly wounded, and heartsick."

With this it's easy to see, why I believe that vader is stronger than anakin.

To make the difference between vader and Anakin's power clear, let's look at Vader's fight with kenobi.

Old ben was a Match for anh vader.

"Although obi wan is still a Match for darth vader, he allows himself to be killed in the duel, giving Luke and the rebellion time to escape."

"Teacher and pupil engaged in a savage but evenly matched lightsaber battle."

This is very impressive, and not contradictory to Star wars. Seeing as characters like yoda and palpatine are at the peak of their powers, at a very old age.

Vader thinks that his son, Luke skywalker, before empire strikes back, is the strongest Jedi. Making him stronger than old Ben, who given the Prior statements, was a Match for anh vader.

"Vader shook his head. A great Victory. Once that would have been something to make him proud. Now? Now it was as hollow as smashing These weak X-Wing pilots. A warrior needed to contend with equals. Obi-Wan Was gone, and the other Jedi were all extinct, save one, who was the strongest of them all. His own Son."

And we can see in empire strikes back, that Luke gets ragdolled by vader.

The same happens with the clone of galen marek. Galen could put up a fight to vader, on the death star, though his stronger clone gets beaten easily.

"Starkiller Lunged again, and his right lightsaber joined his left. He Fell back, beaten, and stared up at his former master. "This is your last chance," vader said, standing over him with the unwavering tip of his lightsaber pointed directly at starkiller's chest. Starkiller stared up at the Black mask, sure of two things. Vader didn't want to kill him, but not out of mercy or sympathy for his lot. The dark lord had invested far too much time and energy in recreating his former apprentice, and he wouldn't want to throw all that away. Not when he seemed on the verge of Victory."

With These statements, it's easy to see why I believe that vader has surpassed Anakin's power, numerous times, before hitting his peak in rotj. My next part will be about Anakin's statements, and why it is impressive that vader scales far above him.

Darth Vader's legends scaling part 1

I will be going over Darth Vader's scaling, in the eu. Meaning I will not be using any statements made after disney got the rights to Star wars, in 2014.

But before I can explain my take on the dark lord's power I will have to go over the counter argument, that I have seen the most.

The creator of Star wars, George Lucas, said in an interview, and I quote:

"Anakin, as skywalker, as a human being, was going to be extremely powerful," he says. "But he ended up losing arms and a leg and became partly a robot. So a lot of his ability to use the force, a lot of his powers, are curbed at this point, because, as a living form, there is not much of him left. So his ability to be twice as good as the emperor disappeared, and now he's maybe 20 percent less than the emperor."

This statement is the one I have seen the most, when it comes to debates about vader. Along with the logic, that any and all statements made by George Lucas fall under G-canon. However, it shouldn't be the "be all end all" that people claim it is. Seeing as Leland chee, the continuity Manager of the eu, stated that a g-canon source can be over written.

"- we need a list of characters from the films. I'll do a search of Characters by G-canon.

-we need a list of some planets from the films and the EU. I'll do a search for planets Sorted by canon to determine which ones are going to recognized by more people.

-source a contradicts source b. More likely than not, if source a is from the films and source b from the eu, we'll use source a. Of course, there can always be exceptions which is why the case-by-case determination is always in effect no matter the sources."

Factors such as consistency and popularity are also important in the descision making progress.
