what i like about magic in fairy tail is that it makes it clear that it's less important what magic u use, than how u use it

like yeah, we have the Dragon Slayers with unique plot important magic and a few others, but the rest?

Erza is a powerhouse and the main way she uses her magic is summoning weapons and changing clothes. her power lies in her weapon prowess and her large collection of magical weapons and armors

Gray? we have 3 other ppl using the same magic, not only that but we also have other types of creation magic. what is impressive about Gray is that his magic requires a lot of stability just to cast and maintain the shapes, which he never loses, and in his ingenuity. we see with Lyon that if u sacrifice stability u lose on the overall integrity of the magic

Lucy? we have lots of other Celeatial Mages, what gives them strenght is their relationship with their spirits and in how much strenght they can physically summon, and we've never seen anyone capable to summon so much as her. most Celestial Mages are passive fighters, but Lucy managed to overcome that weakness

Makarov? Size manipulation that we also see with Brandish. he also uses Light Magic that we've seen in lots of other places. most obviously with Jellal but we also have Mavis, Larcade, Sting, even Laxus that one time. it's also not a stretch to say that Zeref also knows it as he is the one that taught Mavis how to perform Fairy Law. it's also possible that Light Magic is related to Celestial Magic considering that Jellal sometimes invokes the stars in his spells

talking about Jellal? he also knows Sealing Magic, that of course we also see with Zero

and let's not forget Mystogan, the madman can't even cast magic himself and he still became an S rank. i don't think we talk enough about just how crazy that is

Mira? ofc Soul Magic is not unique to her but her Demon Soul is impressive not only bc of the power, but especially bc of the mental fortitude it takes. we know from Elfman that if u are not careful u can lose yourself in the creature u are taking, if it's hard with monsters just imagine what it takes to mentally dominate demons. Mira Jane is completely insane, the mental strenght she has is unbelievable, which only serves to further show just how devastating Lysanna's "death" was for her

many series have their strongest characters use some kind of unique ability or a technique past down in their family, not fairy tail. some of the strongest ppl have magic pretty much everyone can access, what makes them special is their usage. and i think that's more realistic bc how many ancient arts, secret techniques and inovative geniuses can exist?

funny thing about gajevy is that, specifically in the manga, we are presented with 3 different guys in love with levy (jet, droy, and one who is not a mage) before the chapter where we are presented with the aftermath of gajeel attack

but still she chooses this buff ex-bad boy with piercings who munches on scrap metal, laughs weird, plays cringe music and somehow always goes back and forth between desperately trying to fit in and being the oddest guy in the room

and honestly good choice, i respect that

You know what I WILL speak on Gray Fullbuster once again because what do you mean he was supposed to be the opposite/foil of Natsu in FT but this boy LOVES with his whole chest . He put FT above his heart because his family his guild comes first above EVERYTHING even himself. Gray cares so carnally and so much he’s killed himself just to achieve what the guild needs. People wanna look me in the eyes and say that Gray struggles with showing his affection for others when this the same man that WILLINGLY threw his life away to save his family and his supposed rival not once but TWICE!? What is love if not the willing need to serve and protect? What is love if not the willingness to throw oneself in the way to save one of your loved ones?

Did you ever think about the fact that because Gajeel and the others are from 400 years ago, they may recognize some ancient language? Like imagine Levy trying to decipher some ancient text for hours or days only to have Gajeel come up to tell her exactly what is says.

You know how in fics Dragon Slayers would sometimes know the dragon language? I find it funny that something similar actually became (somewhat) canon, bc you can't tell me the language didn't change at all in 400 years 😆
