turquoise: what is something that you’re afraid to say out loud?

“in all honesty?” moonkyu asks, brows raising as his rubs his hands together. “almost everything.” the answer falls from his lips with ease, a tiny chuckle following after. “never really been good at words— or talking to people. i get flustered easily, my brain starts spinning and things get jumbled up.” he continues to explain, though there’s a more serious look that overtakes his features. “i’m afraid of talking about a lot of things— but the thing that scares me the most to talk about is myself.”

bloodstone: who is someone you would risk your life for?

“there are twenty-seven people i would risk my life for— all of which happen to be the people i live and work with on a daily basis.” he says with no hesitation whatsoever. “there are a few of them that don’t like me, or have made me cry here and there, but this crew? it’s the closest thing to family i’ve had in years and i wouldn’t trade that for the world.”

pearl: what are you trying to heal from right now?

“isn’t everyone trying to heal from at least one thing that’s happened to them in their past?” moonkyu asks, rubbing the back of his neck before placing his hands back in his lap. “i didn’t have the greatest childhood, that i can admit to. there were things that happened, things i did— it messes with you, even if it’s been years, even if you’ve tried to move on. those things i don’t think ever fully heal, nor do the scars they leave behind.”

“uh”— the blue-haired medic lets out a soft sigh, cheeks tinting pink at the question. “it was— a-actually not that long ago.” moonkyu continues, fingers fiddling with the hem of his sweater, legs bouncing restlessly underneath the table. “i- i’m not going to g-go into details but it w-was nice.” there’s a soft smile that starts to pull on the edges of his lips, eyes falling to his feet. “i h-hope to have that feeling again sometime s-soon.”

there’s a pause, a silence that fills his room and surrounds him— thoughts running a mile a minute as he tries to figure out the answer himself. “i h-haven’t really thought about t-that before now.” he answers truthfully, slender fingers dragging through blue-tinted locks— a slight shrug of his shoulders soon following after. “there i-is someone who m-makes me feel happy whenever i’m a-around them, yes.” moonkyu nods, chewing on his bottom lip nervously. “i d-don’t know how i f-fully feel about them, though.”

“honestly, there’s a few i could pick from that cause me to feel like that.” the male giggles softly, crossing one leg over the other as he gets more comfortable in his seat. “can’t help falling in love by the only and only, elvis presley — not only is it a classic, his voice is...well, incredible. it’s definitely one of the first songs i think of whenever the topic of ‘love’ is brought up.”

maybe his parents were to blame    —   their nonchalant negligence and the haunting fact that they’d never once uttered the words ‘i love you’ had molded him into a boy who felt nauseated at the notion of being loved or cared for. it’s no surprise when drew cringes at moon’s concern. and  he hates himself for it    —   he should be accustomed to it already. his whole life has been a series of interrogations and pity littered concerned. maybe he loathes it because it’s not coming from the person he needs to hear it from. he’s grateful moon doesn’t blow the injury out of proportion & because of that he decides to stay and let him bandage his cut. “ the fact that you wouldn’t even entertain the idea of making a luxury home for your pet is vile. ”  most members of yokai would argue that drew had an unhealthy attachment to ham solo , and in all fairness , they were probably right to think so. his life was a vicious cycle of work , video games , pampering ham solo , and toying with death to prove he was alive or at least something other than dying.  moon’s laughter allows drew to relax his muscles and he finds himself carelessly plopping down where he was told to sit. moon had such a wholesome , puppy-like optimism to him   —  the kind only good people could ever possess. ( the kind his best friend had once had. drew squints his eyes and momentarily he swears he can make out his apparition    —   maybe he should lay off the weed. ) “ he just looks so cramped in his cage ! and it’s like a mini fucking vacation home for when i decorate his cage. ”    he doesn’t intend to sound like an offended toddler , but that was essentially his entire personality at this point. he feels his heart pathetically clench at the idea of his hamster caring about his physical well-being and it’s enough to prompt him to swear to leave his room more often.   “ moon , i almost started crying. if i didn’t know hammie was a materialistic little shit i would agree with you. ”   it’s followed by a playful roll of his eyes. “ i’m a walking blood bag , dumbass. all i ever do is bleed too much. ”   the familiar crimson hue is such a frequent sight he’s permanently desensitized. if he didn’t have the immune system of a cotton ball ( because it’s nonexistent ) he would’ve wanted to be a medic. a good , kind one.  the kind who’d doodle on bandages. just like moon. he’s quick to shrug his sincerity off. he knows moon would help him regardless , because he always has to , fuck , why was drew such a burden ? “ shut up , the band-aids are cute. i dunno you always make my bandages look not outright hideous , so i thought adding some of these little anime fuckers would be the cherry on top. ” he follows this by flashing the little series of ban-aids he’s already wearing, each with a different anime as a design. 

moonkyu remembers his childhood all too well — remembers the amounts of boxing matches his father came home from a drunken mess, only to start screaming at moon's mother for only trying to help patch up his wounds. remembers the sound of the empty whiskey bottle flying past his head only to smash into the wall behind him. ( he still carries that memory in the form of a small scar on the back of his arm. ) it's the reason he'd started worrying about everyone other than himself, why he'd stepped in & taken his mother's place. why he was the person he was right now. a medic, someone who did nothing but help others, patch up their wounds, try and give them something positive to look at while they healed. "i never said i wouldn't entertain the idea of it, i just think if i were to do it, i'd do a little more research and maybe even ask for help in the process so that my poor pet doesn't stress out about it's owner being injured." he retorts with a small sigh, smile starting to gently pull on the edges of his lips. he'd actually thought about making a little staircase for monet, his puppy, not too long ago so that he could get into moonkyu's bed and curl up. "if you need help, i can try. i'm not the best builder.. but if i can mend people up, how hard can a hamster condo be?" he giggles lightly, brow raising as he gives the other a small nod of his head. "monet doesn't like his dog bed, i'm looking into making steps for him so he can sleep on my bed. i get it." he continues, a shrug of his shoulders following after his words. "just let me look at you, stop fussing. hammie will get his condo and you'll be fixed up as good as new." the blue-haired male continues, gently pulling the other's arm towards the edge of the desk, turning it so the cut is facing upwards. "do you know if you've washed the thing you cut yourself with recently?" moon asks, pulling out a bottle of peroxide and a few cotton pads. "this will hurt, but it'll make sure your arm doesn't fall off from some sort of infection." the medic states, gently pouring the liquid over the other's wound as his free hand gently smooths out the skin of drew's wrist as a form of distraction from the sting he's sure to feel. "he can't be materialistic if he doesn't have his owner there to give him all the fancy stuff!! so quit arguing with me!" moonkyu jokes, running a clean rag over the surface of drew's skin to remove the peroxide that didn't need to sit there. "stop getting yourself into situations like this and maybe you wouldn't bleed all the time!" there's a giggle that falls from parted lips as the medic speaks, a playful shake of his head following afterwards. even though he knows the other is accident prone, he wouldn't ever stop caring about drew. "i guess i could always paint something that'll go along with whatever stickers you'd like me to add to this bandage." he hums out gently, eyes scanning over the other's band-aids with a boxy grin settling on his features. "alright, alright, you want the whole crew to know you're a nerd, i got it. pick a few for this one while i finish cleaning it."

she had just finished changing, wig and all, to go to the park when she saw a figure at her door. she always found moon suspiciously nice and had a hard time believing someone could veritably be that kind without an anterior motive. in fact, she wouldn’t be surprised if everything was a facade. she had half a mind to simply take his food and shoo him away but she knew better. he was one of the medics and the last thing she should do wanted to do was get on his bad side. their line of business was filled with questionable people and she’s seen instances far into her past where medics purposefully cause more damage to those who have wronged them. she started at him blankly as he rambled on about (what seemed to be) his life story, taking out her notebook and jotting down some of his traits she could have for a new character as we went on. he finally finished and before answering his offer, she asked in return, ❝ do you usually talk this much? ❞ there was no malice in her tone as she was genuinely curious. ❝ that sounds good, though, i’ve never had handmade noodles. i was actually headed to yoyogi if you want to eat there instead. ❞

moonkyu had always been the type of person that gave notice, told people he was showing up instead of just appearing at their door. he wasn't sure why today was different than that, though, his thoughts taking him towards her door before he even really realized that he hadn't given the proper amount of notice that he usually did. maybe he was starting to get out of the shell that he'd lived in his entire life thanks to the other members ( or well — most of them, at least ) being open and inviting to the medic. sure, there were a few people who'd gotten the poor blue-haired boy to shed a few tears, but most of them weren't like that. maybe they'd open up to him over time, be less harsh... one could only hope, right? "i—" he starts out, cheeks instantly blushing a bright red color as he shakes his head. "n-no.. not really." it's the truth, he was known for being quiet and reserved, always sticking to the edges of the room, spending most of his time cooped up in his bedroom. "i'm u-usually in my room." he continues to explain, free hand fiddling with the hem of his shirt as his nerves begin to kick in once more. "oh? i make them at least t-twice a week. if you like them, i'll start bringing them to you more often." he grins softly, eyes lighting up ever-so-slightly. "that sounds awesome! maybe i can get a few new sketches while we're there too!"
