i'm not trying to ~small bean~ify nicolette, she's sweet and mild mannered in an almost detrimental way. she's 27, not 17, but she's very much still dependent on her family. her kindness is not the flaw, and over her character arc where she. grows a spine. she never loses her kindness. it is her initial need to be liked by everyone and her fear of being criticized that causes trouble and leads her to make choices she eventually regrets. ie. siding with the templars.

obviously nicole doesn't frame it as i'm recruiting the templars because my parents want me to. she's 27 not 17 and despite being very sweet-natured, she knows how to act the part of a refined noble woman. her public reasonings are essentially that her connections should earn them more allies if she sides publicly with the templars, thereby increasing the power of the inquisition. also that there is something obviously wrong with lord seeker lucius and that some templars must disagree with him. she also never travels to redcliffe at all so she never sees that they've allied with tevinter, or she would have gone down that route.

colette does frequently ask people if they’re okay or upset with her. shes very sensitive to shifts in mood and its because of the unstable relationship she has with her parents. her father specifically has an unpredictable temper and her mother would completely give her the silent treatment as a form of punishment. anyone Minorly seeming upset with her is enough to bring her to tears tbqh
