Ao no Exorcist 5 Episode 6: Great Animation… But Inconsistent? 🎭🔥

This episode really surprised me! The animation was actually good—no lazy shortcuts, no stiff movements. Even Mephisto catching Rin at the end looked amazing! ✨ But the pacing since Season 3? All over the place. Some scenes are beautifully animated, while others (cough last episode cough) feel like a slideshow. Still, I won’t complain too much— since I was there when the last seasons of The Seven Deadly Sins happend. 💀

The Good, The Bad, and the Missing Pieces

I’m grateful we have another season, but the early season cuts make no sense. Now that we’re back in the present, I’m worried about how they’ll handle what comes next. They’ve skipped so much that they now have to cram in important explanations before returning to the past. Will they pull it off? No idea. 😬

Demon King Fangirl Bias? 100%. 👑

Please take everything I write in my blog with a grain of salt because.... not gonna lie—I focus heavily on Mephisto, Lucifer, and the Demon Kings. So if their scenes get cut down, I assume a lot is missing from the rest of the cast, as well. Plus, I judge animation quality based on how they animate Mephisto (don't judge me please 💀💅🏻). If he looks off, the whole episode probably does... I guess 🥺

BabyRin Is Here! (And Yes, I’m Making Memes) 👶🔥

I’ve waited years for BabyRin to be animated, and I refuse to apologize for the memes. 😂 He’s actually accurate to the manga—and realistic for a newborn (minus, you know, burning people to ashes).

Final Thoughts: Excited but Nervous 🤔

The studio is picking and choosing which scenes to animate well, leading to inconsistent quality. But honestly? I’d rather have that than bad animation across the board. After so many years of watching anime, I notice lazy tricks much more easily. Some parts of this season are great, others? Not so much.

So yeah, I’m excited but also terrified for the next episode. Will they adapt things well? Or are we in for another slideshow? Guess we’ll see. 😅

Mephisto: The Time-Space Enigma and My Undying Fangirl Devotion ⏳🌌

Alright, I'll probably share my full episode thoughts tomorrow (if anyone even cares, lol). But I have to say this now: I see there are a lot of fellow Mephisto stans of culture here on Tumblr so let me ramble 👏👏

Because really, the second this man did that pose on the chair, I knew. He could literally do anything—sit, stand, breathe, commit interdimensional war crimes—and I’d still say, yep, that’s hot. 🔥 And judging by the Mephisto posts about the new episode, I’m not alone 😂.

Now, beyond my totally intellectual, not at all superficial appreciation of his existence (shhh 🤫), I have to say that Kato-Sensei writes him masterfully. He’s insanely intelligent yet playfully absurd, manipulative yet seemingly invested in the balance of things. He claims he doesn’t experience emotions the way humans do, but… does he really protect this world purely out of self-interest? Because for someone supposedly void of empathy, he sure doesn’t treat most people with cruelty. Sure, Amaimon gets yeeted into cruel treatment on the regular, but, to be fair… he does disobey a lot. And demon siblings have their own, uh, methods of discipline 😅... probably.

What makes Mephisto stand out is that he’s always been complex—from day one. Other Demon Kings have depth, too, but their arcs are more straightforward. Take Lucifer, for example: he preaches about creating a gentle, harmonious world, but at his core, he’s furious—furious that he’s trapped in a decaying body, that he, a godly being, has been made to suffer unfairly. So, in his mind, if existence is unfair to him, it should be unfair to everyone. If he can’t have peace, no one should.

It’s a fascinating character conflict, and he could develop even further, because Kato is a phenomenal writer. But Mephisto? He’s already this layered, enigmatic, and ever-evolving figure. A paradox wrapped in a time loop, sprinkled with chaos, and dipped in raw, unfiltered charisma. And, dare I say it again? Hot.

Mephisto is everything. 🔥💜

At the very least, Baby Rin has gotten the justice he deserves. He’s just as ugly—I mean, accurate—as in the manga, and I’m really excited for the next episode. We’re back in the present now, but honestly, I’m not just excited—I’m terrified of what they might cut out 😭.

🚩 SPOILERS For The New Ao No Exorcist Chapter 🚩

I really liked this chapter! So much happened, and that ending was just cruel 😭. Now we have to wait a whole month… hopefully just one and not two. Sometimes they change it after a few days, and suddenly, we’re stuck waiting longer. Let’s all hope we actually get answers next month! 🙏

Egyn’s situation is super interesting. The obvious answer is that he’s going to ask Lucifer about being used, but something feels off—why did they put the panel in with that drop of elixir he gave Homare? Feels like there’s a hidden message there. And we know Kato-sensei loves throwing red herrings so we don’t see what she’s really planning. Can’t wait to see how this plays out! 👀

And I need to know if Amaimon is coming back soon! He probably will, and I feel like Shiemi might have to fight him again—or do something completely unexpected. Whatever happens, this is huge for her. Now that her mother is gone, she’s officially the rightful Shiemihaza, and this moment will definitely shape her character.

I swear if Kagami skips this for 10 chapters, I’m gonna riot 💀. We’ve been getting so much vampire lore lately, and honestly, there’s nothing better! It's refreshing that finally some story points wrap up slowly.

Also, I was wondering how they were going to stop Ferid from betraying them—he’s insanely powerful. But wow, they were actually smart about it! 👏🔥
