It was barely a few seconds before the door was practically ripped open, a flushed face Kairos standing on the other side. She seemed to mirror his anxiety perfectly, fidgeting in her spot as she stared at him then at the flowers, then back to him.

"You...You got me flowers..." Was the first thing she managed to stuttered out, the flush on her cheeks only deepening as a result. "T-They're beautiful, of course!" Kairos quickly stammered out afterwards, swallowing thickly as she shifted her weight between her feet.

"I'm...glad we're doing this." She uttered quietly.

it’s been awhile since he’s done this, been on a proper date. ever since his last relationship, he hasn’t really been in the dating scene. and that was 15 years ago. standing on her doorstep, bouquet of roses in hand, he’s a walking ball of anxiety. somehow, despite his nerves, he knocks on the door, waiting for her to come out.

Kairos scrubbed at her cheek with the collar of her top to wipe the blood from her skin, letting out a scoff at the other's absurd words. "I had to make the body unrecognizable, that's what I was contracted to do." She shrugged, though she looked a bit irritated by the idea as she spoke.

"It's not ideal and I'll have to dump these clothes as soon as possible, but a job's a job." Kairos grumbled, rubbing the stained palms of her hands against her pants. "Is there a problem?"

Really, she had been going out of her way to avoid him and she had been doing a good job up until now, so Kairos would instead blame it on the lack of sleep dulling her senses.

"You're so...You're so annoying." She said, followed by a weak laugh and her hands lifted to rub at her eyes. "I was trying so hard to make this easier and you...you just had to mess that up like always.." Kairos scoffed.

Kairos let out a proper laugh this time as she paused what she had been doing previously to walk over and hug Yuji tightly, properly. "You can call me whatever you want, okay? Be it my name, or mom, whatever makes you comfortable with me." She said, pulling away to place her hands on his cheeks.

Her expression was so fond, her chest felt so warm and it felt just as natural to her as Yuji but also so incredibly new at the same time.

"Also, there's no way I'm not telling your father. I'm sure he'll be just as amused as me." Kairos teased as she reached up to ruffle his hair.

it takes him a dangerously long amount of time to realize what had just come out of his mouth. it almost came… naturally, as if she were his biological mother, as if he’d said it every day for the past 15 years. but no, she’s not his biological mother… so why did it feel natural?

once he realizes what he said, he can feel the heat rise to his cheeks. what does he do?! does he take it back? pass it off as a joke? ignore the fact that it had just come out of his mouth?

“ um- ” his throat goes dry, and he’s struggling to find the right words to say. maybe he should just apologize. “ -i’m sorry, guess it kind of slipped out. you don't have to tell dad. ”

Kairos leaned forwards and placed her chin in her palm, "Aw, really? Nothing that interests you in trying to learn more?" She pouted, purely teasing the other at this point.

"I promise I'm not that scary." She grinned.
