thoughts on orb: on the movements of the earth
very rarely does an anime make its way up to my favorites on anilist, but orb did just that on the day episode 3 aired.
granted i don't watch a lot of anime, nor would i say that i have the best taste, but there was something about orb that truly made it special.
now its been a while since orb ended, and im no philosophy - religion - astronomy person, so bear with me.
orb, by all means, is a story about humanity.
law. order. curiosity. discovery. beauty. knowledge. and the truth.
the truth will always prevail. the truth lives through all of us.
heliocentrism was something that the 'main' cast of characters did not believe in at first either. they all had their own reasons and intentions for further pursuing the topic but that in of itself just goes to show their humanity. they had a purpose. a cause. a belief.
just how far can people go to fight for something they believe in?
i feel as if we are at an age where people barely have any beliefs that they truly hold on to, and for an anime like to come out in the middle of all the isekai slop being aired every season (no offense) to slap us all in the face to basically say: fight for the truth! fight for what you believe in! is so refreshing.
of course, i also have to acknowledge just how good the pacing of the series is. admittedly i have the attention span of a 2 year old child, but orb had me at the edge of my seat every damn episode!
(i remember talking to a friend on how one of the episodes had 3 scene changes in total purely gripping dialogue that had me STRESSED for a solid 24 minutes).
i couldnt be more happy that they decided to adapt the manga until the end because god knows how much were being hit with the 12-13 ep adaptations these days.
and of course, the preservation of knowledge and history.
heliocentrism would never have seen the light if it were not for the preservation and passing on of knowledge. i can not stress just how important preservation of history is.
at present time, those in power seem so hellbent on erasing records (internet archives, taking down scans of literature that are no longer in print, movies, games, new articles, literally anything!) these pieces of media are living proofs of humanity, these are works that scream i was here! this is what i made! this is what i love! this is what happened! this is what i believe in!
and to think there is a possibility that we could lose of all this... i don't event have the words for it...
although very much a fictional story, there is no doubt in my mind that there were, are, and still will be, people as passionate as these that will fight strongly for what they believe in, despite the constant cycle of humanity.
tl;dr: orb is PEAK
