LOGH is a bad show for getting people to write stuff like this and think it’s profound political commentary
#oh my god imperialism is bad it’s always bad there’s no merits#maybe autocracy could be argued to have merits but like#even there it’s a pretty uneven contest

i love yang wenli wistfully treating reinhard and his pack of generals like his favorite tv show
not pictured: immediately prior, mittermeyer and reuenthal doing breathless foreplay about how they're going to kill him bad??

I want to go on record and say I’m the first person to write Hilda/Muller
#not for ‘shipping’ reasons#it ended up being helpful for my plot direction#but I do actually think they’d be a good couple

Three story recommendations for LOGH fans:
The Wire: American TV show with a focus on institutions and bureaucracy. It deals primarily with the war on drugs. I think that fans of LOGH’s procedural aspect, huge cast, and epic scope will enjoy this show. LOGH to me peaks around the second season, while The Wire peaks at season four and then has a satisfying conclusion, making it worth sticking out.
The Dispossessed: a sci-fi novel about two planets, a rich one and a poor one. Both of them are extensively explored, though you follow one main character rather than two. The novel focuses a lot more on political/socioeconomic issues than LOGH and is more dedicated to realism. Author Ursula K. Le Guin’s sensibilities align with those of Yang fans in my estimation.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence: WWII film with heavy homoerotic vibes and anti-war, pro-humanity themes. It’s about forbidden love on the battlefield, ideological/cultural clash, and masculine emotional repression. If you wish LOGH had openly acknowledged how gay it was, this movie is for you. Personally I was holding out for a LOGH captivity arc and MCML also gave me that.

Human lives come first, and the state and the government can’t require any individual to take up a death mission. I seem to remember a line Yang Wen-li said in Legend of the Galactic Heroes:[12] ‘In this war lies the fate of the country, but what does it matter next to individual rights and freedoms? All of you just do your best.”
