“There are certain things in the movie that are very Russian that is difficult for an American audience to pick up on. Like when [Kirk and Sulu] freefall and I capture them and I say something in Russian….[says Russian phrase]…it means “Oh man!” basically, which is something I ad-libbed. Which goes back to what I was saying. Chekov never speaks Russian in the series, and that was Russian slang. And that that is something I decided to add just for the hell of it, because JJ [Abrams] said ‘throw in some Russian, let’s do it for fun.’ It was just a moment that needed some kind of reaction, and they loved it out there. It is one of those things that Russian people get. I think Russian people are very happy with Chekov because he is one of the few Russian characters in American pop culture history that is not the Red Dawn kind of Russians.” — Anton Yelchin

Now obviously John Mulaney has had a profound affect on all our lives, but without a doubt to me one of the most impactful things he has ever said was: “Whatever. This might as well happen. Adult life is already so goddamn weird.” That has become one of my guiding life philosophies.

Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear so immediately that the two of you, on some level, belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you’re in love or creating things together or foxhole buddies or partners in crime. It’s so clear, right off the bat, that this is what you’re supposed to be doing, that this is what you’re for. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest of circumstances, and they help you make a life. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but. It definitely makes me believe in something.

People go like “you can’t force diversity” as if the racial hegemony and absolute heterosexuality in media happened naturally and wasn’t carefully constructed and heavily forced by a white supremacist agenda and society’s obsession with hetero normativity

the mcelroys look like the least compatible people in the world based on just their appearances alone and it’s the funniest fucking thing to me
like, who knew that some elusive cool uncle who’s probably a trickster god sporting a hawaiian shirt, a goth cowboy who just stepped from a starbucks and is probably keeping the secrets of magic from the public, and an assistant regional manager for Staples who only owns clothes in beige are a) related and b) rule the Internet as reigning funnymen with a less-than-benevolent fist

i wish people (even in the mental health field) would acknowledge that trauma doesn't necessarily have to be an extreme, earth shattering horrifying event in order to affect us. we forget that we are gentle animals. have you ever stopped to think that maybe you being picked last for kickball every time was traumatic? have you thought about the fact that you internalized false messages that you aren't good enough, you aren't athletic, you aren't desirable because of moments like that? nobody acknowledges that seemingly insignificant points in our lives like this in childhood development can be traumatic! and so we grow and we live our whole lives with these ideas in our heads and they aren't recognized because maybe they aren't "shocking enough" to be treated, maybe they aren't taken seriously. but they should be. they really really really need to be.
