Best Books For Study JEE Advance by Recommended - Kalpit Veerwal 

The structure of the post will be Subject-Must have books-Book sets for additional practice (but choose only one set of them)-Books for those aiming for very good ranks or Olympiads. I will be mentioning many books. Don't get overwhelmed on seeing it. Most people don't study them all. Some books are good for theory, some for problems and some books are used for specific topics. I'll mention alternatives to books. You can buy them too. I'll provide pros and cons wherever possible. I have extensively searched the web for the latest and best editions of the books. To ease out things for you guys, I have included links to the books too, so that you can directly buy the books instead of wasting time searching for them (time is precious!). Just click on the link, and you will see the correct edition.

PHYSICS- Must have books- 

1. HC Verma- God book of JEE Physics. Must do for all. Read theory and solve questions. As many as possible. If you are buying one book, this is it.

2. NCERT- Another must have. Reading NCERT will help you answer the theoretical problems asked in the paper, and will help you with JEE (Main).

It will give you a heads up for boards too. Also, see the links below for all four books (read both parts of classes 11th and 12th). 

3.Previous papers questions- Must solve each and every one of the questions.

Kalpit Veerwal Not Score Top-10 In The JEE Advanced Why ?

I scored 360/360 in JEE Main, and 303/366 in JEE Advanced. Any sane person would say that I would get a rank in at least top 30–40 with this score (2016 had only 8 people above 300). I ended up with rank 109. Now, I am well aware of the fact that this is an amazing rank and I shouldn’t be crying about anything and be happy. But let me tell you how IIT Madras (they conducted JEE that year) messed with me and many of my batch mates:

22 marks for bonus questions - We had 22 marks for bonus questions. Out of them only 12 really needed to be bonuses. 20 marks were bonuses for free (almost everyone including every coaching agreed on this). And guess what I was not benefitted by the bonuses at all because I had them all correct anyway! I guess this created a gap of around 5–10 marks between what I should have scored on a relative basis and what I did.

Extremely easy Math's section: In the 1 month between Main and Advanced, mathematics was the subject I studied the most. I did extremely bizarre and toughest of toughest questions from the toughest material I could find. I was equipped with enough resources to rip apart even 2016 Math section (one of the toughest ever). And guess what - the Math section was even easier than Main. Almost everyone in the CSE batch has more than 110/122 in that (I scored 118). The point is, if the paper was of the usual JEE Advanced level, I would have scored higher, relatively speaking.

Some people claim that I did not do as well in JEE Advanced as my Main because I was “basking in the pride” of my Main result, or I got distracted by media, or I became overconfident - I would say that the only reasons are the points mentioned above - my real rank would have been around 20–40, which was anyway expected on the basis of my past exams and AIR in coaching tests.

There was a court case by a student and the result was declared invalid for some time, but the court said this would delay college admission so nothing was done. I feel that this was a big issue as the lives of many students were affected. I got lucky I didn’t but I know people who suffered a loss of 20–30 marks because of this - destroying their dreams of getting into IIT, and I also know people who got into top 25 although their “real” rank ought to be outside 500 - only because of this.
