I finally got to see the new Hatsune Miku movie the other day. It was SO GOOD. I related to it a lot. Both the struggle the Miku Who Can't Sing faces to try to reach people with her song, as well as the frustration and hopelessness the people connected to her SEKAI feel.
I had heard some tips before seeing the movie via this TikTok, so I knew that I could get a postcard at the theater, that some knowledge of the Colorful Stage game is necessary to fully enjoy the movie, and that there was an after-credits scene (though I missed the part about light sticks...oops). The playlist of clips he references is this, and these brief bits basically give you context on the bands featured in the film, since the film doesn't properly introduce them. (There are subtitles). I did find that watching them did help when seeing the movie.
As for the after-credits stuff, there is a brief traditional post-credits scene, but there's also a song performance where the Miku from the movie sings her signature song, "Hello SEKAI," with Rin, Len, Kaito, Meiko, and Luka, which is cool! (And other than Miku, they're all in their usual real-world outfits, so they're meant to be the real-world versions rather than the in-movie counterparts). They do also give you a heads-up about the "after show" in theaters before the movie starts, in case you didn't know beforehand that it was happening (even with that, the other people in my showing left before it happened though...so I got that part to myself 😄).
I did secretly snap a couple pictures. (No video though, cause I know better than to film movies in theaters)
I do definitely want to get the soundtrack for this movie, cause all the songs are great. I couldn't find it for sale online for some reason, even when I searched on CD Japan under the movie's Japanese name (Project SEKAI The Movie).
I think it is helpful to at least know how Vocaloids' voices sound going into this movie, cause I imagine hearing them talk how they do alongside normal human characters would be very weird to a total outsider (it was even a tad jarring for me as a Vocaloid fan at first). Kaito in particular still sounds very artificial even after all these years.
(Just checked to see if they released any songs from the movie as DLC for Project Diva -Mega Mix-, but they did not - at least not yet)
Anyway, just wanted to post about this. Go see the movie if you can!
