fat tuesday aka p膮czki day!! two flavours: plum-raspberry jam, and mulled spiced whipped cream.
learned a LOT from my first time deep frying, like to start heating the oil LONG before the dough is done proofing... but over-proofed p膮czki are still p膮czki and they were DELICIOUS.
and yes, i absolutely teared up when my mom said these reminded her of her mother and babcia -- two incredible polish women and two phenomenal bakers. i couldn't ask for more 馃挄

i was getting ready to film my great canadian baking show application video when i thought... i can't show up empty-handed! some hasty lemon-cardamom shortbread cookies with lemon curd, strawberry reduction, and strawberry "butter"cream (which ended up being margarine-cream due to my limited amount of butter. would NOT do that again.)

another vintage heart cake practice, this time for valentine's day! devil's food cake with strawberry-raspberry filling and strawberry meringue buttercream. the first batch was italian, and when i realized i didn't have enough, the second batch was swiss. if only buttercream didn't take so much butter!!

these cinnamon rolls gave me terrible news: that bread flour ACTUALLY makes a difference. i fear i can never go back to all-purpose flour for my beloved cinnamon rolls. paired them with homemade apple cider for an autumn birthday :)
