I had a client tell me she was in Ponta Delgada during the 25th of April and saw the celebrations there, and while there, she took a tour. Unaware of what the fuss was all about, she asked the tour guide what were the celebrations all about. And, of course, the answer here was that it's the 50th year anniversary of the revolution that overthrew the dictatorship.

For some reason, the tour guide told my client "it's the day the colonies became independent"

Which is not right, but also not 100% wrong. I asked if the tour guide had said something else but the client said that's all she said about it, and now after MY explanation of what the day was about, my client was a little suspicious this girl's political views might align with a certain system.

I'm utterly confused, and admittedly I'm not too familiar with the developments of the 25th of April on the islands, so my Azorean friends, would you be able to shed some light into this for me? Like, is there a reason for this or was the guide just straight up either a fascist apologist or perhaps an idiot?

This was very lovely to wake up to. It's completely legit, in the replies people posted videos and pictures of the 'walk for El Vaquita', the fake protest to get El Vaquita desperately needed medical attention.
