princess arianne of dorne in her house colours - click here for better quality
Princess Arianne strode to the litter on snakeskin sandals laced up to her thighs. Her hair was a mane of jet-black ringlets that fell to the small of her back, and around her brow was a band of copper suns. She is still a little thing, the captain thought. Where the Sand Snakes were tall, Arianne took after her mother, who stood but five foot two.

my take on the book versions of alicent and rhaenyra
The accounts and letters preserved from this time begin to speak of a "queen's party" and the "party of the princess." Thanks to the tourney of 111 AC, they were soon known by simpler names: the greens and the blacks. At this tourney, we are told, Queen Alicent was beautifully clad in a gown of green, while Rhaenyra left no one in doubt of her inheritance by wearing black embellished with red, for the banners of House Targaryen.

I guess I'll be the first to ask on this blog. What are some pretty big misconceptions about Wu Zetian? Her reputation seems to swing from "pretty evil" to "pretty good" from time to time
I'd say that she's not so often misconceptionalized than treated with a double standard.
However there are some misconceptions:
She was not 'China's only empress'. 'Empress' is transliterated as 皇后. She was a 皇帝, which should be transliterated to 'emperor'.
She was not an emperor of the Tang Dynasty. She formed her own dynasty, Wu Zhou. She's lumped with the Tang dynasty emperors as she was the only emperor of Wu Zhou - she had the surname 武, which is different from the Tang emperors' surname of 李. The Tang dynasty was restored as her successor was her son with the family name 李.
She was not Emperor Taizong's favourite concubine. I suppose we have the C-drama Empress of China to thank for this one. She remained at the rank of 才人 (a very low rank, equivalent to a palace maid) for the 12 years in his harem and she never had a child with him. Emperor Taizong probably found her too aggressive for his taste. He preferred women who were smart and talented but who were also virtuous and could soothe his strong temper, like Empress Zhangsun and Xu Hui.
She was not 'new money'. Again, Empress of China to thank for this one. Her father Wu Shiyue was a lumber merchant, but he had friends in high places. Her mother, Lady Yang, was related to the Sui dynasty, the previous dynasty before the Tang.
This is partly my opinion, but it's very ingrained to Westerners that she killed her own baby daughter. However I think that anecdote is false. Babies are fragile, and the girl could have died of SIDS or any other baby illness, and a grieving Wu put the blame on Empress Wang. It was still a year before Empress Wang got deposed, it didn't change Gaozong's perception of her, and it made little sense for her to do it so early in her career.
No matter how much you say that she was demonized by Confucian Song Dynasty historians, the real Wu Zetian was still fond of murder. However, since women are often judged on their morals, and men on their merits, she gets the worse reputation.
Emperor Taizong killed his two brothers (albeit in self-defense), and as much as I like Taizong, that's still fratricide. And Gaozong is often presented as a softie controlled by Wu, but he could get quite purge-y when it came to officials he didn't like. And they aren't demonised half as much as she is.

Danger to her own person was the first thing she had learned to see, back when she was still half a child, a slave girl bound for life to the great red temple. It was still the first thing she looked for whenever she gazed into a fire.

Narha Otherys
"She was the second of the three bastard children of King Aegon IV Targaryen and his fourth mistress, Bellegere Otherys."
Narha Otherys only braids version
It was pretty much my first time drawing braids, there's definitely space for improvement but I like how it turned out
Go to my page to check her mother Bellegere and her older sister Bellenora, and their descendent, the current Black Pearl of Braavos, also named Bellegere. As well as other ASOIAF fanarts.

Bellegere Otherys, the Black Pearl of Braavos
She was a smuggler, a trader, an occasional pirate, and the captain of the "Widow Wind".
She was also one of the lovers (as he was hers) of King Aegon IV, "The Unworthy" and together they had 2 daughters and 1 son: Bellenora Otherys, Narha Otherys and Balerion Otherys (there are doubts about the boy's paternity).
This one was so much fun to make and I loved how it turned out.

Bellenora Otherys, the Black Pearl of Braavos
She was the eldest of the three bastard children of King Aegon IV Targaryen and his fourth mistress, Bellegere Otherys.
Bellenora became a courtesan and took the name of "Black Pearl of Braavos", acclaimed by singers of her day as the most beautiful woman in all the world. The courtesan tradition was continued by her daughter.
Go to my page to see her mother Bellegere and her great-granddaughter (I don't know how many times), the current Black Pearl of Braavos, as well as other ASOIAF fanarts

Balerion Otherys
He was the youngest of the three bastard children of King Aegon IV Targaryen and his fourth mistress, Bellegere Otherys.
I imagined that like his mother he was also a captain and occasional pirate, and he likes to collect coins from places he visited or are important to him, adding them to his braids or necklaces. If you look closer, hopefully you'll see the one he wears on his forehead is the coin of his father Aegon IV, and the one he carries on his necklace is from Braavos.
And with him, House Otherys is complete 🖌
(I guess I could draw other members that are named, but my initial thought was to draw only the Great Bastards, their mother and the current Black Pearl of Braavos.)
