"When you develop an infatuation for someone you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you. It doesn't need to be a good reason. Taking photographs of the night sky, for example. Now, in the long run, that's just the kind of dumb, irritating habit that would cause you to split up. But in the haze of infatuation, it's just what you've been searching for all these years." Ricard, The Beach
Had Vladimir Lenin lived long enough, would he have been a Star Wars fan? Ukrainian artist Alexander Milov recently completed an awesome transformation of an old bronze statue of Lenin located in Odessa, Ukraine. The statue of the former Russian leader is now an awesome sculpture of Darth Vader. The geektastic alteration is the result of a law enacted by the Ukrainian government last spring to remove all reminders of the country’s Communist-era past.
Citing local reports, the Russian news agency TASS states the plaster statue resides at a factory in the port city of Odessa, where workers and local residents decided “it is time for new heroes.”
Milov told reporters that he left the bronze Lenin intact inside the new Vader statue:
“The Bronze Lenin was left inside, so that the grateful or not so grateful descendants could exhume him, if needed,” Milov told the media. Asked to comment on the statue, a nearby factory’s warehouse manager waxed philosophical. “Everything glows, everything changes, old figures give wave to new ones, and so the world turns.”
The new sculpture is also the housing for a free Wi-Fi router, so Vader has that going for him too.
