Volcano Calbuco erupted on April 22, 2015, for the first time in four decades. Located close to the cities of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt in southern Chile. We spend the prior couple of days on the neighboring volcano Osorno (~20km linear distance) shooting timelapses. After an amazing night under the nightsky we took the cable car downwards after a delay caused by repairs. Already late we headed south to catch the ferry on Routa 7 down to Patagonia. After 10min on the ferry we noticed a massive, almost nuclear looking cloud boiling upwards just were we left a few hours ago. Frenetically looking for a good outlook we then rushed to the only non-forested place to get a decent view of the show. We quickly put every bit of camera-equipment we could find on the constantly growing mushroom-cloud. We shot timelapses in 8K and 4K with a Pentax 645Z and Canon 6D. On the A7s we shot 4K video to the Shogun. We filled almost all of our memory cards in the prior night so I had to do backups while shooting all this stuff. This was for sure the most incredible show I've ever seen. I think this is a one in a lifetime event and I am so happy that we were able to capture it in all its glory. James Benning´s One Way Boggie Boggie & One Way Boggie Boggie 27 years later (Single channel) from Pablo Useros on Vimeo.

James Benning shot One Way Boogie Woogie, an hour long film composed of 60 shots of industrial urban landscape: smokestacks, sidewalks, three Volkswagens, people and animals here and there. In characteristic fashion, Benning's apparently simple, static shots are exercises in meticulous artistic composition and his careful sequencing ensures that the director's playful humor is given full expression. Twenty-seven years later, Benning returned to Milwaukee to shoot "the same film again." As the first versión the film is composed of 60 shots, all of 1 minute lenght. The second versión keeps the original sound of the 1977 film. For study purpuses i´ve edit the two versión in a single channel in order to see the differences in every composition. I strongly recommend to watch first the movies as were intended to show. And then come here to analyze the shots. Bikes vs Cars depicts a global crisis that we all deep down know we need to talk about: Climate, earth's resources, cities where the entire surface is consumed by the car. An ever-growing, dirty, noisy traffic chaos. The bike is a great tool for change, but the powerful interests who gain from the private car invest billions each year on lobbying and advertising to protect their business. In the film we meet activists and thinkers who are fighting for better cities, who refuse to stop riding despite the increasing number killed in traffic.

In the trailer you meet Aline Cavalcante in Sao Paulo, Brazil, From the same city also urban studies professor Raquel Rolnik and car salesman Nicolas Habib. Over the film we meet local historian and bike acitivist Dan Koeppel in Los Angeles. Joel Ewanick who defends the good souls of the car industry is a former top marketing director for General Motors, Porsche and more. He is now working with hydrogene car solutions in California.
