I realised, ‘This love is unrequited, drowned like the shore when the tide comes in.’ Research Question: How do the qualities of textile materials assist in visualising?

A digital project book for my major project: Unrequited Love.
This photo book with some poetic words intends to articulate the feeling of my one-way attachment and loss to a person.

A inspirational song for this project: Christopher - Moments
It mentioned ‘everything fades away,’ ‘Let it go by with a flow,’ and ‘memories don’t say goodbye.’ I feel like this song mirrors my project, especially I want to use the image of waves to express that my emotion has been washed away.
- Lyric: Please don't say a word Cuz they all have been said now Like a journey coming to an end You say Let it run like the river Wild and without a care Just like the days We were young and fumbling Everything fades away Let it go by with a flow Really wish I could stay But you know me All the moments we shared Are not going anywhere Never quite understood it When you told me Just close your eyes And I be right by your side Cuz memories don't say goodbye

Louise Bourgeois: The fabric works
‘It is not an image that I am seeking. It's not an idea. It is an emotion you want to recreate, an emotion of wanting, of giving, and of destroying.’ —Louise Bourgeois (Celant, 2010, pp.114)
‘Time—time lived, time forgotten, time shared. What does time inflict—dust and disintegration? My reminiscences help me live in the present, and I want them to survive. I am a prisoner of my emotions. You have to tell your story and you have to forget your story. You forget and forgive. It liberates you.’ —Louise Bourgeois (Celant, 2010, pp.260)

“Mend and make do.”
Sashiko is a striking hand-sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. In Japanese, its name means “little stabs”—a reference to the plain running stitch that makes up sashiko’s geometric, all-over patterns. Sashiko is usually described as a kind of embroidery, but to me, this fails to capture its true complexity. Sashiko patterns are very pleasing, with their regular stitches and precise use of space...

BY HAND, From the Heart
“All handmade items contain love, regardless of whether you have deliberately spent time meditating on the person you are making for or not. There is love in the decision to make by hand, love in the choice of project and love in the hours spent making.” -Jessica Wright

Mingwei Lee-The Mending Project Retrospect to a relation art exhibition I have been in Taiwan in 2015, it reminds me that Mingwei Lee’s The Mending Project somehow influence the project of mine. He points out the quilty of threads and fabrics can be not only become the interpretation but the connection between people.
