Devin had to admit she was shocked when he didn’t rebuttal her words, but she appreciated his silence. Placing both hands on the bar as she straightened up in the chair, she reached for her purse as she got ready to leave. When he called the bartender over though Devin’s interest once again returned, she settled back in her chair. “High rolling tonight?” She questioned with a laugh. “That’s fine by me. Bring on the drinks.” Smirking to herself with amusement over the fact he was doing exactly what she wanted, she turned to look at him. “Knew you’d see it my way eventually.” 

“I’d be foolish not to.” Monroe said, pouring her a glass when the bottle arrived and handing it to her. He ordered himself another, separate drink so that she could have the bottle to herself. He took a slow slip, starting to feel the fuzziness of the alcohol in his brain. “I’ll say it now before it is too late, if you’re going to ask me to drive you somewhere, you’re going to want to do it now before I finish this drink.”

“That’s certainly one way to look at it. I have to say I’ve never wanted to frame any gossip about myself and hang it on the wall, but clearly I’m rather boring and haven’t had good enough gossip.” Most of the gossip she’d had wrote about her involved her messy parents or partying habits. “When you’ve lived as long as you have that’s understandable. I mean you’ve probably lived through a wild part or two.” Grinning over at him when he said he was open for suggestions. Taking her phone back from him and she looked over the name quickly, Monroe. At least she knew that it started with an M. “Life has been….” She tried to find the right word, but she didn’t even know how to explain it. “Well I’m here aren’t I? I clearly needed a new adventure in my life and this is where I landed.”

Monroe chuckled, nodding in agreement. “Oh this place isn’t so bad. To tell you the truth, there is something keeping me at this place. I don’t know what it is but I don’t have the urge to get up and leave every day so that’s a start. Plus, it is sort of nice to be able to be yourself, y’know let your monster side be known.”

“i know about things, yes. it’s called being intelligent.” sawyer explained, raising her eyebrows as she smirked. “i didn’t mean a nightmare in a negative way. i meant it as in a beautiful swirl of darkness that can’t be contained. frankly, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.” she told him, leaning a bit closer to expose her cleavage slightly but subtly. 

Monroe wasn’t quite sure what to make of this woman. One on hand, he much preferred for his interactions to be simple and this was far from that. However, he was intrigued; people seldom carried such confidence in their persona. “I don’t think there is either. I think we’ve all got a little darkness in us. It’s just that some of us choose to keep it suppressed. I certainly see no reason to keep it contained.”

“Had? Oh man don’t tell me… Are they alright?” He asked with a frown because it sounded bad and he couldn’t imagine just how awful something like that happening would be.

Monroe gave a sad smile; the worst thing was saying it out loud. It wasn’t a fresh wound, but it was never easy to thing about the possibility of the lives his children could have had in modern day. “Oh, it was a long time ago now. Unfortunately they were born in a time where medicine was very limited.” He shrugged a little, “You don’t really appreciate how amazing medicine is nowadays until you’ve been without it.”

“Oh please, it’s a fact that people in general, the majority of them, are just plain stupid and don’t learn from their mistakes, I don’t believe in luck but it’s the only explanation about how humanity has managed to survive this long, I mean it’s good cause we need food but still, is just a mystery to me.”

Kate shrugged. “I guess I can see how it can be interesting to a newbie and it was to me but there’s apparently some people that were totally surprised by some of the news so I guess it just depends on how oblivious or not you are.”

“Fascinating. I guess you can say that about most celebrity scandals though, right? If you know the victims well enough, nothing is really a surprise. I’m gonna make the assumption that most people won’t bother changing the way they use their phones though. It won’t teach anybody a lesson.”

When he grabbed the back of her stool and turned it so she was facing him once more she fought the urge to grab to be aggressive with him. Instead she gave him a look that made her displeasure with his action known, she crossed once leg over the other. “Did you think I was that easy?” She questioned back and didn’t even bother attempting to answer his question. “But who says I want you?” She counted, she took another drink from her glass. “Just because you’re hooked doesn’t mean I am.” Taking the olive’s from her drink, she put the tiny stick into her mouth with them on it. Chewing them slowly while she listened to him continue to talk, she gave a shrug. “Nah– it’s way more fun watching you squirm. I’m interested to see how far you’ll go with this.” Turning back around once more, she toss her hair back over her should. Taking a long drink from her glass, she finished it off. “Ope– well now I’m out of alcohol. What to do, what to do.” She teased as she attempted to get up from her seat. 

Monroe fought the urge to comment on how if she wasn’t interested, she wouldn’t still be here. He silenced the cocky voice in his head for the greater good, biting his lip to keep any words from escaping. He wasn’t about to go half-hearted into this either. Calling the bartender over, Monroe pulled out his wallet. “Can I just have a bottle of the most expensive thing you’ve got?” He turned back to face her, “I won’t let your glass get empty again.” He said with a slight smile.

Carter nodded his head. “I mean… two years ago I was on a scholarship at a JUCO college and doing everything I could to get into Division I or Pro football.” He said flexing his arms. “I just need to stay in shape and don’t get the whole dad bod from her and up until my daughter, her name is TB, finishes high school and we’ll be good.” He explained and pulled out his cellphone. “This is her, she just turned two in December.”

Monroe smiled, “She’s adorable.” He said genuinely, “I had three kids. Three girls, actually, so I completely understand the whole protect them at all costs thing.” He was envious of the high quality picture Carter had of his daughter. His own picture was an official portrait, depicting a baby, a toddler, and young teenage girl. Monroe smiled as he showed the picture on his phone, “They’d be quite a bit older than your daughter now.” He said with a soft laugh.

Monroe couldn’t help but smirk at the comments and recommendations. “I am very open to suggestions.” He said slowly, pushing the knife through the woman’s flesh now, angled to pierce the eyeball. His actions were slow and calculated, causing his victim to flicker between consciousness as the pain grew too much for her, “I’m always reluctant to completely block out sound. I can’t help but get off on that hopeless whimper and that final sigh when they realise that this really is the end.” Tilting his head slightly as he watched Gigi casually eat her snacks, Monroe was amazed. He’d spent many nights in shady alleyways and dimly lit parks but never had he come across somebody with such a perplexing character as her. He was in awe. “I didn’t know that,” He smiled, bemused, “But I totally get the murder turning you on thing. It is euphoric, and few other things compare to the feeling of taking away somebody’s life.” He made sure to speak the words close to his victim’s ear, remind her of her fate.

Monroe scoffed a little at her abrupt response, chuckling a little in surprise, “Somebody’s got a chip on their shoulder.” He remarked, glancing around. Monroe didn’t know very much about women’s fashion, other than how much it had changed over time, but he certainly couldn’t see too much of a difference between any of the women there. He couldn’t help but laugh again at the comment about being a nightmare, “Trust me, I have dealt with people much worse than yourself, and I am sure I will again in the future,”

Taking her usual from the bartender, she took a long drink from it before she turned her attention back to Monroe once more. “I love control.” She grinned. being in control was basically her favorite thing in the world because the other person always did what she wanted. While it would be nice to get a little wild tonight she wasn’t going to give in that easily not after his earlier comment. “Interesting offer, but you’ve already made it clearly that you’re going home with someone and that someone doesn’t have to be me. So..” Turning around on her stool with a smile, she took another drink from her glass. “Guess since you aren’t going to try with me you might want to talk to someone else. As you said you shouldn’t need to sell yourself, right?” Looking back at him with a smirk. “Have fun not trying with everyone else. If you decide to try well you’re welcome to come shoot your shot again if I’m still here.” 

“Wait, wait. You are not getting away that easily.” Monroe said quickly, grabbing the back of her stool and turning it to face him again. “You’re really going to make me work for it, huh?” He rose one eyebrow quizzically, he definitely enjoyed a challenge. “I know I could have almost anybody here, but that doesn’t mean I want them. I want you, now. You’ve got me hooked.” When she mentioned she liked to control, he couldn’t hide his smile. It was very rare that he got to be dominated, and he certainly wasn’t going to miss his chance, “If you want to control me- then tell me what I need to do to win you over.”

While she wasn’t exactly sold on the idea she was at least interested enough to bite. “You’re really trying to sell this aren’t you?” She asked with a laugh. While she wasn’t exactly against the idea of having sex with him she was into being amused for as long as possible. “Really now? Well– go ahead and tell me. How about we go ahead and get another drink so you can tell me everything that I can do with you?” 

“I’m not trying that hard. The fact is, I’m not going home alone tonight. Whether you want to be the person that joins me or not, that is up to you. I shouldn’t need to sell myself, you have eyes, right?” Monroe chuckled, only slightly joking. He called over the bartender, this time ordering a Sazerac and whatever Devin wanted. He paid for both drinks without hesitation and thanked the server. “I don’t think I’d be exaggerating to say near enough anything. You seem like the kind of person to want to be in control, right? Tie me up, then. Leave your mark. As long as my heart is still beating by the end of the night, then you have your fun.”

Perhaps it is too early to tell. I’m hoping it will lighten up, otherwise I am going to find somewhere with a little bit more life. I’m Monroe, by the way”
