Thoughts on: A Tale of Two Stans !SPOILERS AND THEORIES!
SPOILERS! I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO READ MORE ON MOBILE SORRY JUST KEEP SCROLLING IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THIS OKAY
Well, the Gravity Falls wiki mods are going to have fun changing Stanley and Stanford’s names on the wiki for their articles? Am I right? I can especially relate to Soos in this episode, being so into the plot that I wasn’t aware on how fast the episode was going by.
After seeing the episode it’s obviously going to create a lot of perspectives for the fandom. My first thought is Stanford’s time in the portal. I find it somewhat odd that McGucket seemed slightly shocked or suffered some trauma after seeing things in the portal for 5 seconds. With Stanford he’s been in the portal for about 30 years. I think we’re probably going to look at a few thing’s from Stanford’s perspective in the next few episodes, as what he could of seen could of taken a toll on his mind, something that Stanley wouldn’t have been able to understand. The possible reason on why Stanford hasn’t shown any reaction is because of all the events that have quickly taken place when he was freed from the portal. Finding out about his grandchildren, confronting his brother etc.
Judging by what young McGucket said when he was pulled out of the portal, I think that Stanford would’ve encountered Bill constantly in the portal and had either his own struggles and confrontations with the dream demon, or he was fascinated by what he had seen and was interested in what the demon could do. I think Stanford knows a lot more about Bill than Stanley does, as in Dreamscaperers, when Stanley’s mind is saved, he seems clueless by what had actually happened. It was also noticeable that when Bill had shown memories of ‘Stan Pines’ it was a possibility that he was actually referring to Ford, not Stanley. Back when he was talking to Gideon, he was especially overjoyed with the idea of Gideon getting the shack. This means that this would shatter the mission of Stanley going to the portal to free his brother.
So what does this all mean? A possibility is that Bill wanted Stanford to stay in the portal. He didn’t want him to be released. This is probably because Stanford poses some sort of threat to Cipher’s plan. With the two brothers together, they obviously would make a good powerful team just like they did as kids. If Bill Cipher would’ve let Gideon, a physical human being take over the shack, then it would pose less suspicion to Dipper and Mabel, who pose a similar threat, which comes to my next point.
It seems like Mabel is concerned for her and Dipper’s relationship as siblings. MOST fan art often revolved around Bill messing with Dipper’s mind, but I personally think that he might mess with Mabel as well. If you think about it, Dipper and Mabel are just like Stanford and Stanley, Dipper being Stanford and Mabel being Stanley. Mabel is afraid of losing her brother. This could be a vicious circle for the four of them, the siblings taking the exact same course as before, which is probably what Bill could intend to do. If he breaks up the sibling bond between Pine Tree and Shooting Star, then they won’t work together and pose as a real blockage for his plans. While the bond is strong, they are indeed standing in his way. Note the previous episodes. Dipper tends to get himself into trouble but finds out more information. Mabel is less involved but still plays a major role in saving the day, mainly protecting Dipper from paranormal harm. This is seen in a resemblance where Stanley is often the one defending Stanford from harm such as mental and physical abuse from bullies. It’s pretty much the same resemblance in both pairs of siblings. Bill Cipher knows that. He knows lots of things, and it’s extremely likely that he doesn’t like it.
Another reason why I feel Bill will play with Mabel’s mind too is because she is childlike and innocent. She may be smart, but when it comes to emotional situations, it is noted that she shuts herself off from everyone. Not just the source of her problem. Everyone. There is proof of this in the Summerween episode and the episode where Stanley loses Waddles. She literally cuts everyone off. And if a situation like this happens, she will isolate herself. It is a pure fact that our minds are weakened when we are down and depressed. Us humans seek comfort, and we will from anyone who seems sweet and persuasive. And I think Bill can portray himself that way if he wants to. He has a very good power of reason as seen in Sock Opera. Until Mabel thinks properly, Cipher had literally persuaded her to hand over the journal to prevent her play from being ruined. If he can find an opportunity to weaken his enemies physically, mentally or psychologically, I think he would snatch the opportunity to do it. Don’t get me wrong, he could easily do the same to Dipper as he is more paranoid and likes loyalty and justice, as Bill easily makes a deal with him when he persuades Dipper over him making tons of sacrifices for his sister. However, both twins are equally in the same danger, just in a different manner.
“A darkness is approaching, a time where everything you care about will change.” Both Mabel and Dipper heard that, and maybe Mabel could have been thinking about that, as she was responsible for stopping Bill from getting the code. Who does Mabel care about the most, more than anything? Dipper. She fears that their relationship will change and they will fight. However, Mabel might tug at the relationship to keep it together. The more she’ll tug at it, the more it’ll kick away and cause more painful problems for the both of them. From this explanation, I believe that both twins are just as vulnerable to Bill’s mind tricks as each other.
That’s all for now. I’m British and it’s 2:42am. I might make a video about this soon too. Have a good night and take my thoughts into consideration!

Okay, so, recap.
Stanley spent his entire life being considered the ‘dumber half’ of his and Stanford’s duo, and because of an accident after being confronted with the likelihood of a life of failure and the possibility of losing his brother his father kicks him out and his brother abandons him. So he spends years scamming people in hopes of getting a big break that would enable him to reunite with his family. He ends up in prison three times and evidently gets into a lot of shady business and owes dangerous people money, and he looks to have lived in his car when things got tough and was so desperate for money at one point that he resorted to scratch’n’wins. After over ten years of living like this, he is brought to gravity falls by his brother, who immediately tries to send him away with what he views as a mere book. They get into a fight, which ends with Stanford being thrown into the portal and Stanley begging for him to come back. Then he spends the next several decades trying to get his brother back. When he does, his brother still hates him. And the icing on the cake? Stanley probably never even managed to repair his relationship with his parents before they died.
This summer with Dipper and Mabel is probably the happiest he’s been in decades.

The twins just stared at one another, sharing the same sheepish well-that-just-happened expression for a few moments before busting into laughter.
Dipper held his stomach and wiped his soaked bangs out of his face.  “You sh-ppf!--should've seen your face!” he cackled.
“Me?”  Mabel grabbed her pelt to wring it out.  Her grin grew incrementally wider, and Dipper knew that expression.
He gave her a look.  “Mabel, no.”
“You--”
“No.”
“--looked like--”
“Stop.”
“--a deer in the headlights!”  She threw her arms out and gave her best jazz hands.  “Wha-hey!”
A lone, unpopped balloon by Dipper’s feet was picked up and chucked directly at his sister’s face.  “That wasn’t funny when dad used it and it’s not funny when you use it.”
Mabel just laughed harder while she peeled the teal plastic off her face.  “Aw, Dip!  Don be so stag-nant!”
Dipper sighed, ears flat, and shook his head, heading into the forest in the direction Cabur had gone.  “I’m not listening,” he said, Mabel following close.
“It just doesn’t... behoove you!”
“You are awful.   Your jokes are awful.  You are an awful person.”
“Are you saying I should up the ante-ler?”
“Mabel.”
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry!”  Mabel reached over and messed with her brother’s soaked cap.  “Lighten up, Bambi.”
“Hmph.”
The twins walked the woods for a minute or so, keeping their senses sharp for any sign of Cabur.  He’d been smart enough to go downwind (or lucky enough,) and he was apparently either holding still or being stealthy enough to evade Dipper’s skillful ears.
Mabel tugged on her brother’s sleeve.  “Hey, Dip.”
“Hm?  What, did you smell him?”  He cocked his water gun that he’d forgotten was empty.
”...Be a deer and forgive me for earlier?”
Dipper stopped, turned, then smirked.  “If you don’t stop that I’m gonna... seal you in the attic!”
Mabel gave him a frown and a thumbs down.  “Boo.  Pun game be weak.”
“Well at least I haven’t already used it like a million times.”
“Hey, there’s only so many deer puns--!”
SNAP
The sound of a breaking twig rang out through the forest, and the twins were off like a shot after it, pun battle momentarily forgotten.  They were on Cabur’s tail in moments.
“There he is!”
“I see ‘im!”
They raised and fired their weapons, only to be reminded that they were empty.  Still, a chase was a chase, and why not turn the water-war into a game of tag while they were at it?  Cabur could only run so long.
Cabur couldn’t resist chuckling a little as he emptied his water gun onto the already soaked twins. Nobody ever looked up in his experience, no matter what species they happened to be. While they were still dumbfounded, he slipped out of his tree and began to sneak off to see if he could set some water traps of his own.
Only as he was making his way through the brush, he stepped on (you guessed it) a dry branch that broke with a very audible crack, alerting pretty much anything nearby to his presence. Aw, kriff.
