I think possibly one of my favorite things about fleabag season 2 (and there are a lot of things I love in it) is how she tells us what kind of story this is from the beginning. She says "this is a love story" and we all assume it's her and the Priest, and it is, but beyond that the season is a love story between her and Claire and her and herself. This season is about her processing all of her grief and starting to move on, cause that's the beauty of life, bad things happen and we find some way to move on. And part of the way she gets there is rebuilding the destroyed relationships from season 1, namely with Claire. We see her and Claire close in a way we've never seen before and Claire tells us she would do the romcom ending in the airport for Fleabag. This is their love story. But as she moves on she has to find some way to make new connections, and she does with the Priest, and it doesn't last (and she knows and we know it can't although we all want it to) but through that failed relationship we see her pick herself back up. We see her learn to love herself. We see it through the fourth wall breaks to, the Priest is the first one in the show to see them, which surprises us, but as he sees them they change. To me, they become less frequent, shorter, a little kinder. She pushes the camera away for the first time (giving her privacy), both showcasing how intimate she's being with the Priest and how special that relationship is, but also how she's finally coping, she's finally found a way to be vulnerable with someone who's real. We've been her confidant, her diary, her comfort blanket and for the first time she pushes us away, she is no longer performing for us. And by the end she's ready to say goodbye. The end, where she looks at us, shakes her head, smiles, walks away, turns back looking slightly confused but also amused and waves bye, is perfect. It leaves us to cope with "I love you." "It'll pass." As she copes with it, but also shows how much she's grown. She's stopped waiting for a bus that's not going to magically appear, she's seizing her future, she's starting to let go, and she doesn't need us anymore. She looks a little confused because she doesn't need us, she is shedding the comfort blanket, so we don't need to wait for her anymore. She's learned to love herself just a little more, and to cope on her own and, by leaving us is challenging us to do the same. She's not lonely, nor is she alone, she has Claire and those people she can meet at Chatty Wednesdays. As much as the ending is tragic, it's perfect because it lets her move forward (in the same way someone finally reaching out in season 1 did) and forces us to do the same. It takes someone strong to be a romantic and we've just both shown just how strong Fleabag and we, as the audience, are. The season was romantic and we made it and it left us with hope, because it takes a hell of a lot of hope to be a romantic. So it is a love story and it always was. It was always heading there.

Did I daydream this, or was there a website for writers with like. A ridiculous quantity of descriptive aid. Like I remember clicking on " inside a cinema " or something like that. Then, BAM. Here's a list of smell and sounds. I can't remember it for the life of me, but if someone else can, help a bitch out <3

i love it actually when nonnative speakers make mistakes that reveal how their native languages work.
lots of koreans online say they "eat" drinks which would assume they only have one word which covers the concept of consumption.
arabic immigrants in sweden (my mother included) have a hard time differentiating between "i think/i believe/my opinion is" which suggests that in arabic these different modalities of speaker agency is treated as one or at least interchangeable.
swedish speakers in english will use should/shall/have to/must with much higher nuance precision than native english speakers, to the point where they sound well awkward, because the distinction between these commands in swedish is much clearer than in english. i make mistakes between is/am/are and has/have constantly because swedish only has one pronoun covering all grammatical persons.
i've heard speakers of languages without gendered pronouns (finnish, the chinese dialects, and a tonne more) make he/she mistakes because it's hard(!!) to learn two or more gendered pronouns and when to use them correctly.
how neat is that?! it add a charm to international english usage in particular and make our appreciation of both our native languages and our learnt ones stronger...!!

The thing about Stede Bonnet and Ed Teach is that they're both so terminally cringefail that they work together. Compatible cringefail alignments. Insufferable silly cringefail x insane feral cringefail supremacy

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.
most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.
it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies fĆ©ileacĆ”n is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Ī ĪĪ¼Ļ€Ļ„Ī· are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.
and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).
i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.
grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.

Every single time something has fallen apart in my life, Iā€™ve looked back with gratitude eventually.
I might spend a whole year crying and sleeping and working a part-time job and thatā€™s okay if itā€™s what I need.
Your body will force you to take a break if you donā€™t listen to it asking for one. I saw this coming 2 years ago and ignored it. Now Iā€™m 2 years older and realize I just prolonged it.
Itā€™s okay. Really.

Some loveable etymology
The Latin verb amāre means ā€˜to loveā€™, and is where we get the words amateur (someone who loves a hobby), amorous, and enamor.
It also led to the Latin word amÄ«cus ā€˜friendā€™, which gave us amicable in English and amigo in Spanish.
Finally amÄ«cus was used in the Latin word inimÄ«cus (in + amÄ«cus, literally ā€˜not friendā€™), which eventually gave us enemy and inimical.
