there was no denying sulpicia shared a similar flare for dramatics, the same desire to make an entrance, with her king. while her late arrival at her mate's side was intentional, it was also purposeful. preparations had to be made for her extended . . . vacation away from paris, lest she wanted her own empire to crumble in her leave. while forks left much to be desired in the eyes of the vampiress, sulpicia had missed aro's presence. six months was merely a blink in the eye of immortals like them, but absence ( however short ) had ways of making the heart grow fonder. "my beloved," sulpicia's voice echoed in greeting. as they turned to face her, their full attention settling on her form, she removed the designer sunglasses obscuring her ruby irises. "paris is still standing. for the time being." she pocketed the shades, gliding forward to close the distance between them at a teasing pace. "this place is . . ." she bit back the complaint; aro would hear her displeased thoughts soon enough. searching for a politer word, she finished. "quaint. i do hope you've made your own fun in our time apart."

aro   was   not   surprised   his   queen   was   late.   if   anything   aro   excepted   her   to   be   late.   but   she   was   always   fashionably   late.   if   they   did   not   have   two   thousand   years   between   them   he   knew   he   wouldn't   have   been   able   to   hear   her   silent   footsteps   but   her   presence   was   something   that   always   caused   their   body   to   react.   they   turned,   it   was   the   wind   and   the   snap   of   a   twig.   "my   darling,"   aro   greeted,   turning   to   face   her.   "how   is   paris?"

nimble fingers fiddled with the buttons of her camera, subtle adjustments that come with familiarity, with practice, with repetition. she wished this assuredness could somehow be transferred to other parts of herself. angela lifted her camera, and dark eyes peered through the small square of the viewfinder to focus on the exposure. "right there," angela quietly murmured to herself. she was moments away from pressing the shutter closed when a person suddenly materialized into the frame. "wait—" before she could think twice, there was a soft click and the blinding light of a flash.

in this moment, angela regretted so readily volunteering herself to shoot b-roll footage of the fourth of july celebrations. surrounded by so many people, sounds, and smells, the rookie journalist quickly became overstimulated. it didn't help that the sudden influx of unfamiliar faces around forks had them feeling a little more self-conscious than usual with the camera in their hands. dark eyes searched for a quiet spot to take a minute to themself, and a soft, relieved breath pushed past angela's lips when her eyes landed on a familiar figure. weaving her way through a crowds of folks, careful not to lose the grip on the precious camera in her hands, she found momentary refuge at her friend's table. "hey, bella! wow, this looks amazing. did you make all these yourself?" after tucking her work camera away, angela shouldered her equipment bag to curiously peer at the treats scattered across the table. maybe she should snag something for isaac. while joshua was somewhere milling about the event with her dad, her other younger brother was sick, stuck at home with their mom. he was devastated about missing the fireworks, and angela couldn't help the pity that welled up inside at remembering his cries. "have anything without peanuts?"

bella   was   not   one   for   loud   events,   the   booms   of   the   fireworks   getting   to   her   nerves   but   it   was   good   for   her   business   and   that   was   how   bella   put   one   foot   in   front   of   the   other   towards   the   table   already   filled   with   her   desserts.   it   looked   good   and   bella   was   happy   to   give   back   to   the   community.   she   smiled   as   someone   came   up   to   her   booth.   "hi!"   she   greeted.   "grab   anything   you   like,   its   all   free   for   the   celebration."
