"I earned my chair, Nick. Julie lost hers after she didn't sing for a year."
So, I've been thinking about this and how in Stand Tall she stands from her chair to clap to Julie so please hear my thoughts:
Sure, Carrie is not the biggest fan of Julie and she definitely doesn't like the "hologram show" she puts since people seem to like it better than her efforts to sing and dance at the same time with killer choreography. Now we don't know what happened between them, we don't know if it happened before or after Julie's mom died but if she did, she probably hyped Julie with her singing just like Flynn does.
My thoughts is that when she saw her on that stage, she knew something happened, she even says "been here before" when Julie has trouble starting. She's actually expecting Julie to fail, run, hide because she's alone. But she doesn't. And you see Carrie into it even before the guys showed up. I think Carrie knew Julie was going to be alone against her wishes and even though she thought Julie has not grown musically Julie still stand there, tall and proud and decisive to sing a whole song by herself even when she promised a band.
I think something changed in Carrie (or not bc we probably still need a mean girl, hope we don't) when she say Julie alone fighting for her chair (metaphorically speaking) in front of more people which is why she stood up and clapped.

You know what I like about Flying Solo episode? When Julie says "They're ghosts" and starts explaining everything to Flynn, FLYNN KNOWS she is not lying, but now she's worried because she is seeing ghosts and what the hell is that? And still, she gives her a change to explain.
I think that's a powerful friendship right there

Can we please talk about the fact that the whole reason why Carlos was on his ghost hunt in the first place was bc Julie literally ran screaming bloody murder that she saw ghosts??? And even though he at first teased her about, once Ray mentioned the ‘orbs’ he immediately went on the ghost bandwagon, even after Julie shrugged it off this time and said the he spent too much time on the internet. His entire arc was literally the ghost hunt, and even though I think he just likes things like that anyways, I think that after Julie screamed about ghosts, he started searching videos about them to help his sister. He even says things along the line like “don’t worry i’ll protect you from the ghosts’. It all stemmed from him wanting to protect his sister. And he mentioned that maybe one of the ghosts was his mom like three times. (i.e when Julie first screamed about them, when Ray brought up the orbs, and when Reggie was doing the blinds). The kid was going through his own grief too, I feel like those little mentions are little reminders of that.
My point? Carlos is an amazing little brother who’s whole ghost hunt started bc his sister was freaking out about ghosts and wanted to help her. Also, even though he’s not the main character, he’s still a kid going through is own grief and I want them to bring that up more.
Oh and one last thing: The Molina family is a wonderful, supportive family and I love them very much,

Reggie Is definitely more intelligent and empathetic that the show gives him credit for. Sure, maybe his intelligence doesn't show up in the same ways it does for the others, just being able to play an instrument already requires one type of intelligence that not everyone has, and didn't he said he "shreds on the banjo"?
Remember when Alex had the issue with Willie and he felt broken hearted? Yeah sure, Luke talked first but he looked over TO REGGIE! And Reggie was the first one between the two of them in giving encouraging words such as "I'm sure they'll be others." And then Luke comes in talking about Willie not getting in between his passion for music and Reggie changed the subject bc Alex still looked hurt and (in my opinion) uncomfortable, and it honestly looked forced but looking at that scene for who knows how many times now, Reggie probably was quick to change the subject because sure, they are there for him, and they will be there for him when he wants to talk about it which is not now. And yes, he talks about fire on the stage but then gives Alex a more comfortable subject "hey, let's mess with Luke and his crush on Julie" and after that they are all more calmed, and were able to continue their rehearsal and that was because of Reggie
JATP HEADCANON
Okay, I know that many have that headcanon that Alex came out to Luke first, but I kinda like the idea that Alex and Luke (as pan) came out to Reggie first. Cause Reggie has so much love to give and they would both be so concerned about getting rejected that they can only think of Reggie to talk to. It would also result in one of Reggies glorious bi-panic moments, when he realizes that he kinda likes boys, too. I also think Reggie is way more intelligent and empathic than the show pictured him in season one.

When I was a child and I was depressed and had a sucky therapist I would have given ANYTHING to hear someone say to me, even if it was on a show "wake up, wake up, if it's all you do" and pretty much EVERYTHING that says on that song.
As a 19-year old who is still struggling with depression big time and have had lost hopes on her own dreams you don't know how relieving was hearing say someone "relight that spark, time to come out of the dark"
So yeah, wake up it's a powerful song that needs more credits
i don’t think as a fandom that we talk enough about how comforting the lyrics “wake up, wake up, if it’s all you do” are

Can we talk about the fact that Wake Up and Unsaid Emily are like reversals of each other? When Julie sings Wake Up, it’s a song that her dead mother wrote her to help her with her grief and to keep going with her music. It’s the moment where she feels connected to her mom again for the first since she probably died. And toward the end, Luke is there, witnessing the beautiful moment. Then with Unsaid Emily it switches where Luke (the child) is the one who’s dead who wrote a song to his mom. Julie is the one to give her the song and Luke and Emily are able to feel connected/get closure after all of these years. It’s such a beautiful symmetry between Julie’s and Luke’s stories and helps show the point how these two connect in such an emotional, spiritual way through their love of music. Julie even says after that, “You made me feel closer to my mom. I wanted to help you feel the same.” Because Luke appeared into her life, Julie finally had the courage to play music again, which was hard because it was so connected to her relationship with her mom. And she was able to connect to her mom again through the song that she wrote her right before she died. And because of that, she was able to meet Luke’s mom, who didn’t like him being in a band before he died, and not only gave her the song that he wrote her but helped her get the closure of finally knowing that he “died doing thing that he was was meant to do.” Their stories are so connected and symmetrical with each other and these two songs really showcase that.

I need someone to tell me
Am I the only one that looks Julie struggle in Wake Up?
This girl hasn't sing in a year and she starts to sing pouring her heart and she cries throughout the song but there are time that I think I see her, forcing herself to let the next words get out of her mouth, to not choke up, to finish the song.
I think it shows just how important that is for her: she sings a song that her mother wrote to her, and she wrote it so her daughter could have it and Julie probably at the beginning of her grief read and re-read the song because a) it's one of her mom's (maybe) last memories with her, b) it's her handwriting, her spirit, her love all poured out in four pieces of paper. I'd like to think (because I love torture) that she once tries touching the piano and sing Wake Up but she just broke down and THAT was why she stopped singing and playing altogether.
So yes, she knows the song but it is not until three dead dudes enter her live that she sings it. When Luke tells her "what I just felt in there made me feel alive again" she takes a deep breath trying to show restraint so she (maybe this is pure theory) doesn't cry and when he says "that's a gift no musician would ever turned down" it's when she realizes that he is in fact right, she, a musician turned down music in her life and it just brought her to a dark place where she tried hard not to think of her mother.
Is the moment she realizes how to turn her mother's memory from a sad one to a peaceful, nostalgic, maybe even happy one, doing the thing she loves most so she can reconnect with the one she loves most.
Honestly, Madison Reyes has so much potential as an actress like singer and a bright future ahead and I already want a Season 2 so I can see more new aspects of her acting and can analyze every bit of it

Honestly Madison Reyes is so cute, watching this show with my mom made me realize that she actually looks like one of my cousins and I can NEVER GET OVER JUST HOW TALENTED THAT GIRL IS.
I seriously think this show has changed me forever.
I just, I want all this to be over so I can tattoo myself with "wake up, if it's all you do"
Julie Molina as a character truly blows my mind

Okay but in Finally Free you can actually see Luke when he sings "And you're a part of me" that he FEELS something.
In Bright, Alex has a smile in him, like he KNOWS something is blossoming, Luke was definitely not used to share the spotlight but none of them can deny the chemistry the shared on that presentation.
In Finally Free, something changes for Luke. Julie closes up the microphone and he leans in to sing, sure because that's their dinamic but the looks he is giving her? Are way different. In every single way. He looks soft when he sings "I got a spark in me" he smiles and then when he sings "And you're a part of me" he doesn't smile, he is serious but he is still soft and doesn't stop looking at her eyes because it clicks for him there that something changes. This next thing, I don't know if it is the angle or what but when she sings the word "been so long and now I'm finally free" it looks like for only a second, he drops his gaze to her lips. Also, Reggie and Alex now know bc they know their bro too well.
In Edge of Great, now we KNOW he must know something. He went to the school just to talk to her, look at her and we got the you make me a better writer scene followed by a (very cute, as my personal opinion) scene in which Luke gets jealous of Nick because Julie won't ditch school with him cause she has to dance with him. So, all this emotions are floating out of him in this song and we only see it because she is not giving him attention and he looks bummed about it, she is purposely avoiding him and we get that AMAZING solo in which he finally makes her look at him and they smile and then his energy completely changes and he is giving his best in all his parts. Of course he didn't get enough because he sits in the piano with her to sing again and this time he definitely is looking at her lips.
In Stand Tall, there is not much to say. They are clear of their situation and instead of saying a sad goodbye or being bitter because they have to go. Julie is full of relieved because her friends, her band, her family is there with her as she performs in the greatest night of her (and then afterwards their) life, and the moment Luke sings she jumps, she gives it her all and in their duet as always, she leans in so they can sing together and be with each other and their eyes are just gleaming with happiness in that duet because it's not perfect, true, but it sure does seem like a very happy ending and then the music stops and it's time to great the public and they have to part eyes.
you are the most watchable dueters I’ve ever seen
