News: Melys release uplifting new 'Sgleinio' single
Welsh Legends 'Melys' to Release New Uplifting Indie Pop Anthem "Sgleinio"
Ahead of their Record Store Day UK album release, Melys launch their new single "Sgleinio" (Shine) on Friday, March 28th.
The synth-infused indie pop track is the next single from their upcoming album "Second Wind," arriving on April 12th.
In the glare of the modern online world, "Sgleinio" (Shine) explores the pressures of online life and social media and the need for self-acceptance. In true Melys style, Sgleinio begins with stripped back verses that feature the old art of finger clicks and claps before its chorus bursts into life with lush layered vocals, crashing guitars and analogue synths.
“Sgleinio' came from seeing the difficulties of comparing ourselves with others online. We all have some experience of this, either personally or seeing someone close to us struggle. We put too much pressure on ourselves to project the perfect image, and I wanted to create a song that reminds us that we're enough just as we are.” Andrea --------------------------------
Melys i Rhyddhau Anthem Bop Indie "Sgleinio"
Cyn eu rhyddhad albwm Record Store Day UK, bydd Melys yn lansio eu sengl newydd "Sgleinio" (Shine) ar ddydd Gwener, Mawrth 28ain. Mae’r trac indie pop wedi’i ymbelydru â synthiau yn sengl nesaf o’u albwm newydd "Second Wind," sy’n cyrraedd ar Ebrill 12fed.
O dan yr archwiliad y byd modern ar-lein, mae "Sgleinio" (Shine) yn edrych ar phwysau bywyd ar-lein a chyfryngau cymdeithasol, a’r angen am hunan-gymeradwyaeth. Yn wir i steil Melys, mae "Sgleinio" yn dechrau gyda phenillion syml sy’n cynnwys yr hen grefft o gliciau bysedd a chlapiau, cyn i’w chytgan fyrstio i fywyd gyda lleisiau haenog lliwgar, gitars ymosodol a synthiau analog.
"Daeth 'Sgleinio' o weld y anawsterau o gymharu ein hunain ag eraill ar-lein. Mae gan bob un ohonom rywfaint o brofiad o hyn, naill ai’n bersonol neu’n gweld rhywun agos atom yn ei frwydro. Rydym yn rhoi gormod o bwysau arnom ein hunain i weithredu'r ddelwedd berffaith, a roeddwn i eisiau creu cân sy'n ein hatgoffa ein bod ni'n ddigon fel ydym ni." Andrea

Dewin yn rhyddhau sengl gynta: 'Syched Cas' (Fflach Cymunedol)
Ma rhywbeth sbesial iawn ynglyn a Dewin, mae'r sengl gynta erioed yddynt rhyddhau 'Syched Cas' yn denu dylanwad or llefydd cywir, ei bod yn ddatganiad o fwriad, ser gyda dyfodol disglair ni'n siwr.
Dau gerddor amryddawn o fryniau hudol y Preseli yw Dewin. Wedi tyfu lan yn gwrando ar jazz, corawl, cerddoriaeth glasurol a chanu Mamgu, mae Jencyn Corp a Lefi Dafydd yn barod i ddod â’u chwarae technegol i fyd pop.
Yn diffinio eu cerddoriaeth fel ‘wizard-pop’ mae’r band yn dilyn traddodiad Gorllewin Cymru o wneud pethau eu ffordd eu hunain. Ar ôl ennill Gwobr Goffa Richard a Wyn mae’r band wedi ennill lle yn rhai o wyliau Gorllewin Cymru, ac yn mynd i fod yn gigio trwy’r haf cyn mynd i’r stiwdio i recordio’u halbwm cyntaf.
Dyma sengl gyntaf y label ar ei newydd wedd, Fflach Cymunedol. Gyda gogwydd cryf ar ddarganfod a datblygu talent leol, mae Dewin yn adlewyrchiad perffaith o ethos y cwmni, ac yn nod i’r hiwmor sydd wedi bod mor ganolog at lwyddiant Fflach yn y gorffennol. Dyma’r cyntaf o gyfres o senglau gyda bandiau ac artistiaid newydd, gwaith o’r gymuned, ac enwau mwy cyfarwydd.
Mae sengl gyntaf y band gyda’r cynhyrchydd Reuben Wilsdon-Amos yn bodoli rhywle rhwng Pink Floyd, Wings a Pys Melyn, ac yn dwyn i’r meddwl sŵn y band arall ‘na o Sir Benfro, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci. Yn cynnwys deuawd chwythbren, organ, theramin, güiro, a haenau o leisiau, ar ben rhythm section sy’n gyrru’r gân ymlaen, mae sengl gyntaf y band o Sir Benfro yn wledd i’r glust ac yn goglais yr ymennydd.
O’i ddechreuad mympwyol, mae’r trac yn tyfu trwy ei linell gytgan ailadroddus, “i lan, i lan, i lan…” gan greu teimlad breuddwydiol, os anesmwyth, o ddianc. Mae themâu’r gân o gariad a chwant yn wyneb y byd modern – ei thrychineb hinsawdd rhagweladwy, a’r dyfodol rhagdybus sy’n wynebu’r prif gymeriadau ifanc – yn cyrraedd crescendo gyda’r ddelwedd o gariadon yn gorwedd o dan dderwen, ei hun yn symbol o hirhoedledd, ac yn ein cysylltu â chyfriniaeth hynafol.
Wrth i’r gân gael ei rhoi i orffwys gyda’i allro organ angladdol, cawn ein gadael yn teimlo ein bod ni ar yr un llaw wedi cyrraedd diwedd rhyw syniad mawreddog, ac ar y llaw arall wedi dod o hyd i ddechrau rhywbeth gwych. Gath y fideo ei hariannu gan PYST a GronfaFideos Lŵp.
DEWIN'S DEBUT SINGLE: 'SYCHED CAS'
Dewin are two versatile musicians from the magical hills of the Preseli. Having grown up listening to jazz, choral, classical music and Mamgu's singing, Jencyn Corp and Lefi Dafydd are ready to bring their technical playing to the pop world.
Defining their music as 'wizard-pop', the band follows that West Walian tradition of doing things their own way. After winning the Richard and Wyn Memorial Award, the band ha won a place at some of West Wales’ music festivals, and will be gigging throughout the summer before going into the studio to record their first album.
This is the debut single of the new-look label, Fflach Cymunedol. With a strong bias towards local talent and development, Dewin is a reflection of the company's ethos, and a nod to the humour that has been central to Fflach’s success in the past. This is the first of many singles with new bands and artists, creative work from the community, and more established names.
Translating literally as ‘Nasty Thirst’ the band’s first single under the guidance of producer Reuben Wilsdon-Amos lives somewhere between Pink Floyd, Wings and Pys Melyn, with a bit of that other fantastical Pembrokeshire band, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci thrown in. Containing a woodwind duo, organ, theramin, güiro, layered vocals, on top of a driving rhythm section, the Pembrokeshire band's first single is a feast for the ears and a tickle for the brain.
From its whimsical start, the track grows through its repetitive chorus line, “i lan, i lan, i lan…” (“upwards, upwards, upwards”), creating a dreamy, if uneasy, feeling of escape. The song’s themes of love and lust in the face of the modern world — its foreboding climate disaster, and the foretold future facing the young protagonists — reach a crescendo with the image of lovers laying beneath an oak tree, itself a symbol of longevity, and linking us to an ancient mysticism.
As the song is laid to rest with its wake-like organ outro, we are left feeling we’ve both reached the ending of some grand idea, and found the beginning of something great. The Music Video was funded by PYST x Lŵp Music Video Fund.
Manylion am y Fideo ar Gan.
Fideo Swyddogol y gân 'Syched Cas' gan Dewin, sengl cyntaf y band, ac yn ddi-os nid yr un olaf. Y Fideo Cyfarwyddo a golygu: Lleucu Elisa Gyda diolch arbennig i: Aled Victor a Twm Ebbworth Yn ymddangos yn y fideo: Jencyn Corp, Lefi Dafydd, Teilo Corp, Bronwen Corp ac Anna Dafydd Ffilmiwyd yn Stiwdio Recordio Fflach Cymunedol, Aberteifi.
Llais, allweddell, organ, ffliwt, broga: Jencyn Corp Allweddell, clarinet, llais cefndirol: Lefi Dafydd Drymiau, llais cefndirol: Dylan Sanders Swales Gitâr drydanol, llais cefndirol: Mefin Hughes Gitâr fâs a chynhyrchydd: Reuben Wilsdon-Amos.

One's To Watch: Kikker - 'Destroy' (Official Music Video)
South Wales Punks 'Kikker' unveil a brand new single 'Destroy' which is out now via all streaming platforms. The band have been working closely with Swansea Videographer and Director Jamie Panton, who's insight and vision has allowed the band to create a rousing depiction of the monotony and difficulty of navigating a modern world that is purposefully designed for failure.
Recent press comparisons to The Fall and Fontaines D.C clearly mean that Kikker have a lot more to give and are certainly a band to keep checking up on.
MOONFUZZ Verdict: Ones to watch
Hailing from the overcast concrete metropolis of Swansea, 'Kikker' emerge from a refreshingly mature, vibrant and ever expanding DIY scene, thats been boiling and bubbling now for about a decade. New venues such as Tangled Parrot and The Elysium Gallery in the City center instigate catalyst, and play part in the recent insurge of Punk-core, with MONET, BABY SCHILLACHI and more.
Matt from the band explains:
"Destroy is existentially nihilistic in its nature. It’s about cycles of overwhelm, repeatedly passing the mental threshold where everything becomes too much to handle; inevitable breakdown. It questions how we deal with emotional struggle that is both repetitive and consistent. The modern world is a difficult and complex place to navigate, its systems and structures unnecessarily (but intentionally) causing detriment to psyche and wellbeing. God is a fraud, so what can we turn to to help us navigate through showers of shit?"
LYRICS
I wanna destroy everything that I own
And I wanna kill everyone that I know
Down to the end with it my friend
What makes me sick will come again
Out in the sun, medication
Calms me down, at least for now
I wanna see the sky, I wanna see the trees
These are the things that make me happy
I’m calmer now, much calmer now
I won’t say nowt, ‘cause I’m calmer now
I ain’t ever seen god, he ain’t ever seen me
He couldn’t care less about who’s happy
I need to get a car, I need to learn to drive
But I don’t care that much so I guess I’ll die

Mali Haf - H.W.F.M - Hen Wlad Fy Mamau (Land of My Mothers)
Mali Haf turns the tables in this truly excellent re-imagination of the Welsh National Anthem, a statement towards out-of-date thinking and a cry of hope, inclusion, equality and diversity.
Moonfuzz Verdict: Out Of This World x
Mali Explains:
“I wrote this song out of frustration - seeing women still unsafe inside and outside their homes, hearing the same stories about abusive behaviour on the news, and remembering my own experiences.
These are highly painful personal experiences where the hurt will last a long time but now is not the time to mention details, states Mali. She continues “Wales may be small, but why can’t we lead the way?
This song really isn’t just about women; it’s about creating a Wales where everyone, all genders and LGBTQ can feel emotionally and physically safe to be themselves. It’s cheeky and playful, with an unapologetic attitude and grit, but mainly Hopeful. I love Wales, our anthem, and our traditions, but it doesn’t help to sugarcoat things. So parts of the anthem, Land of my Fathers are name checked in the song. If we call ourselves a land of poets, singers, and creatives, are we really listening to all the voices?
Let’s ride the wave, the wave of change where diversity is welcomed and room is made for all, and make sure we are doing what “officially” we say we’re doing. It should be obvious to all that respecting diversity and women’s rights are under real threat right now in most countries on this planet – not just the obvious example of the USA. Change starts somewhere - why not here in this country that we are so proud of”.
Unapologetically fierce, bold, and poetic, Mali Hâf brings a new anthem for Wales with Hen Wlad Fy Mamau (Land of My Mothers). Known for blending Welsh language storytelling with Mali Hâf.
Reclaims the Welsh Anthem with Fierce New Single; H.W.F.M (Hen Wlad Fy Mamau) raw, modern sounds, Mali’s latest track rewrites the narrative, turning the traditional Welsh anthem into a powerful, urgent call for change. The original Welsh national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land of My Fathers), has long been a symbol of Welsh identity, pride, and resilience.
But in 'Hen Wlad Fy Mamau', Mali Hâf reimagines this legacy, shifting the perspective to honor the voices of Welsh women and marginalised communities. This isn’t just a song - it’s a statement. A rallying cry for Wales to become a place where all women, those who identify, and men exploring their softer side feel safe and welcome. A space of compassion, strength, and unity for every gender. Let’s lead the way, Cymru!

Sister Envy - Swallowed By The Ground single out now
Immediate and hazy guitar effects make 'Sister Envy''s brand new single 'Swallowed By The Ground' captivate and intrigue. The youung band met at college in North Wales, and are a excellent fast-emerging Alternative Psychedelic rock quartet and have spent time honing their sound on stage and in the studio, which certainly can be heard on their latest material.
‘Swallowed By The Ground’ is an awe-inspiring rocketship of soaring space rock, replete with nimble chiming guitars, underpinned by nagging basslines and cycling drums, leading the charge is an unmissable vocal from frontman Kameron Jolliffe, introspective lyrics uncover a relationship falling apart, exploding into an unforgettable chorus, combining elements of the epic gaze sound of early Verve or My Vitriol with echoes of the sound of bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana, Sister Envy are carving their own distinct place in our hearts.
It’s Sister Envy’s third single and the follow-up to ‘Tide’ and debut release ‘Mourning Sickness’ both have been very well received, gaining the attention of publications like Louder than War, So Young Magazine, and God Is In The TV and many more, winning airplay and the approval of John Kennedy on Radio X after an acclaimed debut set at Focus Wales festival last year and playlisted on BBC Radio Wales Welsh Mix.
Kameron Jolliffe says: “I had the main riff lying around for a while, and didn't really touch it, though I really liked it. We started jamming it in a rehearsal and the song pretty much wrote itself, it quickly became one of our favourite songs to play together.”
Sister Envy hail from the North Wales coast, a place of mystery, harshness, and beauty, a place where opportunity is blocked for younger people yet dreams can break through. It’s here that Sister Envy met at college, this fast-emerging Alternative Psychedelic rock quartet and have spent time honing their sound on stage and in the studio.
Their new single was recorded in Liverpool at the famous Motor Museum Studio with Ben Harper. Mixed in France by Welsh legend Owain Ginsberg and mastered in Austin Texas by American producer Erik Wofford (The Black Angels). Over the course of 2025, Sister Envy will invite you into their fascinating world over a series of releases and shows. Gradually revealing the different faces of their tapestry of sound and fledgling experience.

Video: Hachiku - 'Don't Put Your Head Under Water'
'Beautifully lo-fi and soulful'. 'Dont Put your head under water' is the stunning new single by Hachiku, taken from forthcominh new album 'The Joys of Being Pure at Heart' which is out now.
Today, Melbourne-via-Germany-via-Detroit indie-rock/alt-pop outfit HACHIKU - the music project from Anika Ostendorf (she/her) - unveils her new album The Joys of Being Pure at Heart on which she lets her guard down and traces her journey to openness, embracing deep human connection, radical honesty and vulnerability with herself and others for the first time. Featuring the singles ‘Time Wasted Worrying’, ‘Tell Your Friends You Love Them’, ‘Keep on Swimming’, ‘Fun For Everyone’ and focus track ‘Don’t Put Your Head Under Water’, the album arrives on the eve of Hachiku’s world tour which kicks off in the US this weekend, and then onwards to Europe and the UK through April & May (full details below). The Joys of Being Pure at Heart is out everywhere now via Marathon Artists order / listen HERE. On the album opener and focus track ‘Don’t Put Your Head Under Water’, Ostendorf creates a multi-layered guitar soundscape that stares straight down the barrel as she negotiates with a whisper her tendencies to run; the theme of water running throughout signifying that sometimes you can only stay afloat by letting yourself move with the waves of uncertainty, rather than fight to resist them. Featuring harp by renowned California-based harpist Mary Lattimore (Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore), the song builds to a celebratory, groovy bass-driven outro - a canon of soaring vocal harmonies accompanied by a Moog portamento synth solo overdubbed with bassoon by Lyndon Watts - former principal bassoonist of German symphony orchestra Münchner Philharmoniker. This merging of classical leanings with indie & electronic pop echoes throughout The Joys of Being Pure at Heart – together with Watts and Lattimore, it also features Melbourne-based classical music group The Newmarket Collective – that when paired with Ostendorf's shimmering arpeggiated synths and syncopated guitar, beautifully anchored by her band's, rhythmic backdrop of swaying percussion and lush harmonies, has created novel pieces of contemporary music that defy genre boundaries. Author Tim Krieder once said, “if we want the rewards of being loved we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known” – this idea is the lifeblood of The Joys of Being Pure at Heart (a title which riffs off the name of a beloved indie band). The songs are what are referred to in Ostendorf’s native German as Mutmachers – uplifting “blobs of encouragement” to guide listeners through their everyday lives. Themes of resilience, growth and connection whirl through lush and vivid dreamscapes, as she sings of sitting with anxieties (‘Don’t Put Your Head Under Water’, ‘Time Wasted Worrying’), missing her family in Germany (‘Wild Eyed and Free’, ‘Keep on Swimming’), the desire for deeper connection, devotion, and care (‘Do You Like What You See in Me’, ‘Victims of Our Own Demise’, ‘Room For Everybody (Never Let Go of The Joy)’), loving and being loved (‘Tell Your Friends You Love Them’, ‘What Rhymes with Serendipity’), and an ode to raw crushes and figuring out your sexuality (‘Fun For Everyone’). Vulnerability, hope, love, honesty, humour, community – they’re all here, tied together with a sense of wonder and joy. Ostendorf shares: “I never quite understood why a pure heart could cause you pain, but I wanted myself to stay that way among the challenges of the world that could leave you jaded, scared and bitter. It’s not about being naive or shielding oneself from the realities of human existence but there’s something beautiful and joyous in maintaining an openness to the world. If I can be compassionate and gentle with myself, I can show compassion to others. Remain understanding, believe in the best in all, have hope.” By placing trust in those around her, Ostendorf promises to stay open, kind and loving, embracing life’s uncertainties and difficulties regardless of the darkness we all experience sometimes.
About The Joys of Being Pure at Heart LP The Joys of Being Pure at Heart brings collaboration to the forefront of Hachiku unlike ever before, which was inspired by co-producing and playing on Jen Cloher’s ARIA, AMP, AIR and Music Victoria-nominated fifth album I Am The River, The River Is Me (2023) and being a part of queer-run, community-minded Naarm/Melbourne label Milk! Records. “It’s so fun and inspiring welcoming other people in and making music in ways I would never come to think of myself. I used to be a lot more protective about needing things 100% done my way, but wanted to welcome a new challenge for this record,” Ostendorf shares. The Joys of Being Pure at Heart features renowned harpist Mary Lattimore (Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore) and classical music group The Newmarket Collective, and was primarily recorded by Ostendorf across various home studios and mobile setups; her band - Jessie Warren (she/her; bass, BVs), Georgia Smith (they/she; guitar, BVs) and Simon Reynolds (he/him - drums) recorded at Nick Huggins’ (Jess Ribeiro, The Dirty Three, Jen Cloher, Alice Skye) studio on Wadawurrung County in Point Lonsdale, with Alex O’Gorman (Angie McMahon, Hannah McKittrick, Garage Sale) recording additional drums at his studio on Boon Wurrung Country in Pakenham. HACHIKU is the brainchild of German-Australian producer Anika Ostendorf, who writes and produces worldly indie rock with an alt-pop appeal alongside her band. Through the release of their self-recorded and self-mixed EPs Hachiku (2017) and 99 Dreams (2020) and critically acclaimed debut LP I’ll Probably Be Asleep (2020), Hachiku has steadily built a loyal global fan base hinged on catchy melodies, shimmering walls of sound, and their praised live performances. They have seen consistent support and acclaim from PASTE, NPR’s All Songs Considered, Bandcamp, DIY Magazine, Clash Magazine and NME among others, and are continuously invited to support household names around the UK, Europe, U.S. and so-called-Australia including Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, The Breeders, José González and Snail Mail, including festival slots at Iceland Airwaves and SXSW. Hachiku’s music has been featured on Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls and Audi’s mysterious 13-minute ‘Led Balloon’ film commercial.

PANIK FLOWER SPOTLIGHT DIGITAL DEPENDENCE ON “OCD”
NYC dreamgaze band PANIK FLOWER today releases their new single and video “ocd.” The single is the second track from rearview, their sophomore EP that arrives on April 30. “ocd” rolls off of vocalist Sage Leopold’s tongue as the pointed, yet syrupy, “obsessive consumption diet.” With a guitar riff floating in outer space, the song remains shackled to earth by a formidable rhythm section. Haunting and anxiety-ridden, “ocd” is an unending loop of cyclical bingeing — Stream “ocd” / Pre-save rearview.
“The song explores the obsessive and addictive relationship we have with media consumption in today’s world and how that shapes us as individuals,” shares Leopold. “It has a complete chokehold on our daily functions living in the modern world even when you’re aware of how toxic it is. The chorus really drives this point home with the repetition of the lines ‘you catch yourself but you can’t catch a break, you catch yourself but you can’t look away.’”
Today’s single arrives with an erratic official video directed by Aji Bass. Filmed primarily at Porter Studio in Brooklyn, with additional footage shot in upstate NY, the video is a visual juxtaposition between stability and disorder — Watch.
Bass shared that, “For the ‘ocd’ music video, we wanted to lean into a grungy ‘90s aesthetic and let the themes of the song guide the edit. The more composed wide shots of the band represent ‘reality;’ a typical PANIK FLOWER rehearsal or performance. The video quickly devolves into an implied destabilized mental state by the first chorus. Intrusive thoughts make their way into the video in the form of quick, frenetic cuts and teasing a mysterious silhouetted figure who continuously appears and disappears. The structure of the song lends to this juxtaposition, between chaos and stabilization then back to chaos, until we end where we started: wide on the band, back to their reality, maybe just a little more disheveled than before but still standing.”
Guitarist Jordan Buzzell continues, “Visually, we were inspired by classic 90’s grunge videos like Sonic Youth’s ‘Bull In the Heather’ and Garage’s ‘Stupid Girl.’ We wanted the ‘ocd’ video to exist across time periods and serve as an homage to the early days of rock music video making.”
At the beginning of the year, PANIK FLOWER announced rearview with the release of their first single “alkaline.” Through a lush soundscape that careens into driving hooks, the song is filled with a sense of desire and longing. The track received nods from New Noise, Atwood Magazine, Vanyaland and more.
Formed in 2022, PANIK FLOWER has another EP under their belt titled Dark Blue. While their previous project was primarily focused on the complexity of romance and relationships, their upcoming EP, rearview, is rooted in internal matters. It explores identity, namely the double-sided nature of uncertainty and self-acceptance. It transcribes this self-exploration into a plush and emotive soundscape. The new EP was produced, mixed, and recorded by James Duncan (Taraneh, Nara’s Room, Dead Tooth, Raavi) and mastered by Carl Saff (Drops Nineteens, Dr. Dog, Sonic Youth). rearview will be available everywhere on April 30.
Bringing their all-consuming, elevated and raw style to the main stage, PANIK FLOWER are set to perform at New York City’s New Colossus Fest on March 7th at Arlene's Grocery and March 8th at Berlin.
ABOUT PANIK FLOWER:
Through a chain of chance introductions and long-time friendships, PANIK FLOWER materialized within the New York music scene. Mirroring the push and pull of their city’s intensity, the band instinctively began pairing atmospheric dream-pop with a restrained use of well-timed punchiness. Their soundscape of soft harmonies, hard-hitting instrumentals and cutting lyricism evoke the hazy nostalgia of distant memories — ones of love, loss and identity that have captivated audiences from NYC, to the Southeast, and onward.
The majority of the band’s members are native New Yorkers, and PANIK FLOWER’s sound is inherently reflective of the ever-changing city; one that shifts and melds, yet stays rooted in its identity. PANIK FLOWER is made up of co-collaborators Sage Leopold (vocals), Mila Stieglitz-Courtney (guitar/vocals), Jordan Buzzell (guitar), Max Baird (bass) and Marco Starger (drums). The knot of circumstances that binds PANIK FLOWER together isn’t something that can neatly be untangled. It’s a gnarled, kinked path, but one that was always fated to play out. With their second EP rearview arriving on April 30, the band’s strongest work to date sees them marrying a shoegaze sensibility with post-punk undertones, grounded in their ethereal, DIY roots.

Video: Breichiau Hir - New Single 'Paid Trio' Out Now
Cardiff-based Welsh language alternative rock six-piece, Breichiau Hir, are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Paid Trio’ (Don’t Try) which is out now on all good digital service providers, alongside an official music video which premiered with S4C’s new Welsh music and contemporary culture show Lŵp.
Another cut of bruising modern rock from the sextet providing centre stage for the Welsh language, the song is about reinvention—realising a change in yourself, and either embracing it, or actively tearing it all down to start again.
The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming second album Y Dwylo Uwchben (The Hands Above), set for release on 11th April 2025 via Halen Records, and follows on from lead single ‘Cuddio Tu Ôl Y Llen’ released earlier this year.
A special album launch show is planned for 17th April 2025 at legendary local venue Clwb Ifor Bach in the band’s hometown of Cardiff, and the group are also delighted to announce they will support fellow Welsh crew Goldie Lookin Chain on their Autumn 2025 UK tour dates (see below for listings).
Commenting on the track, front man Steffan Dafydd says: “I struggled to write lyrics for the album; it’s something that usually just flows out of me. While the rest of the band were in the studio recording their parts, I was trying to push as much meaning onto the disjointed scraps of writing I had to get something to make sense.” “I stumbled on an article about Charles Bukowski’s writing process and advice for artists. Simply put, his advice was ‘Don’t Try’. Which is the opposite of what I’d been doing—’You don’t try. That’s very important: not to try, either for Cadillacs, creation or immortality. You wait, and if nothing happens, you wait some more.’”
“He also has ‘Don’t Try’ written on his gravestone, along with an image of a boxer, which is where the visuals for the music video came from. As soon as I stopped trying, the rest flowed out of me.”
Bukowksi is also referenced elsewhere by the band on the forthcoming new album’s penultimate track, ‘Tyllau Llygad’ (Eyeholes), in a double entendre: “Dwi’ moyn bod fel Charles Bukowski, darn o waith oedd o flaen ei hoes hi”, meaning “I want to be like Charles Bukowski, a piece of work that was ahead of its time.”
The first half is a lyric lifted word for word from a song by Welsh songwriter Rheinallt H Rowlands, released in 1996. “The album is called Charles Bukowski, and it’s one of my favourite records,” enthuses Dafydd. “I’m basically saying that I want to create something as good as Rheinallt H Rowlands’ timeless album.”
Combining the visceral and the vulnerable, Breichiau Hir have distinguished themselves within Cardiff’s vibrant music scene with their distinctive take on Welsh-language rock music. Their intense live shows invite catharsis through introspection and unbridled energy. Their ability to switch from explosive walls of sound to gossamer ostinato allow the band to resonate from the most intimate of venues to the festival stage.
2025 will see the release of a sophomore album that this time seeks to look to the future by contemplating predestination and individual agency—a series of orchestrations that question the script that has been written for you. Y Dwylo Uwchben promises to build upon Breichiau Hir’s reputation for authentic and personal songwriting, whilst delivering gritty hooks and expansive soundscapes.
The new album will be the first batch of new material from the sextet in 4 years, since the release of their Welsh Music Prize-nominated 2021 debut album Hir Oes I’r Cof, which delivered the resonant lyrics of a band reflecting on adulthood and its inherent antithesis to idealism. As if being forced forward by the currents of the river Taf, the album’s narrative reflects on the escapist power of nostalgia and the weight of expectation.
Launching their debut EP Mae’r Angerdd Yma Yn Troi In Gas in 2015, the band went on to release a string of standalone singles including ‘Mewn Darnau / Halen’ (2018), ‘Portread O Ddyn Yn Bwyta Ei Hun’ (2018), ‘Penblwydd Hapus Iawn’ (2019), ‘Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri’ (2019), ‘Preseb O Ias’ (2020), and their cover of Bryn Fôn classic ‘Y Bardd O Montreal’ (2020).
This slow-drip of material bore fruit for the boys from Wales, with a wave of support both at home and beyond from Huw Stephens at BBC 6music, Daniel P Carter and Alyx Holcombe at BBC R1, KEXP, Adam Walton at BBC Radio Wales, NME, Rock Sound Magazine, Bandcamp Daily, BUZZ Magazine, God Is In The TV Zine, Planet Mosh, Punktastic, For The Rabbits, Circuit Sweet and more.
On the live side, they’ve kept busy building notoriety on the Welsh festival circuit with appearances at Green Man, Sŵn, FOCUS Wales, HUB Festival, The Swansea Fringe, supported The Joy Formidable, Modern Color, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Single Mothers, and their track ‘Yn Dawel Bach’ was even used by FA Wales in their Euro 2020 hype videos.

Worldcub return with new fuzzed out stomper ‘Exploding!’
North Wales Psychedelic Masters 'Worldcub' return with brand new single 'Exploding' which is released 14th of March. This fantastic fuzz-laden stomp addresses the toxic doom-scrolling culture and is directly influenced by the way people are eventually immune to the ingested despair of constantly having negative media in our pockets.
'Exploding!' is powered by a stomping rhythm, its fuzzy guitars, proggy synth splashes, snappy melodies and ticking cowbells make it a refreshing response to the rising tide of negative news and doom scrolling. Dion from the group commented: "The track was inspired by a rehearsal we had, Cynyr explored a few riffs with a more fuzzy sound.
The lyrics flowed from what was on the news that night, on the TV and on social media especially, the relentless tension that comes from having all of that in your pocket all the time and how some people can eventually become desensitised to it, which inspired the paradoxical nature of the track."
Previous single releases from their 2024 ‘Back To The Beginning’ album which was warmly received, enjoying a steady presence on BBC 6 Music with continuous plays by presenter Deb Grant and positive praise from Shindig Magazine.
..'Back To The Beginning' is a fun and trippy affair, which merges North Walian psychedelia with Afrobeat and a Brian Wilson-esque understanding of layering and harmony..." SHINDIG! Magazine
Taking influence from 70s/80s Paul McCartney and DIY ‘Fantastic Man’ William Onyeabor, Worldcub produce material from their home studio on the hills of Eryri, splicing together elements of surf music, kraut-rock grooves and hypnotic psych-tinged Cymru vocal harmonies.
Brothers Cynyr and Dion Hamer founded the band under the name 'CaStLeS' before releasing their debut album, ‘Fforesteering’, which gained coverage on major platforms such as The Guardian and UNCUT Magazine.
With help from Calvin Thomas on bass and Jasmine Roberts on guitar, the band released their follow-up album, 'Back To The Beginning' in 2024, its singles 'Grog', 'One Small Mistake' and title track 'Back To The Beginning' kept a steady presence on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Wales.
Worldcub also gained momentum live, with notable performances on stages such as the BBC Introducing stage at Reading & Leeds Festival, Liverpool Sound City, Liverpool Psych Fest, BreakOut West in Canada and main support to Public Service Broadcasting at FOCUS Wales . http://www.twitter.com/worldcubworld

Introducing: PARCS with their brand new single 'Pull / Push'
Introducing Newport Indie/Synth-pop Newcomers 'PARCS' with their delightful new single ‘Pull/Push’ which is out now on all streaming platforms. With angelic vocals, heavenly synths and commanding bass lines PARCS engineer an uplifting sound thats satisfying.
A yearning midnight epic that swells and swirls with waves of synth, ‘Pull/Push’ plays ever further with PARCS’ vision of nu-disco, centering a driving, four-on-the-floor beat that’s absolutely begging for a dance floor to fill with immediate effect.
The band's sound is characterised by shimmering synths, hooky guitar riffs, driving bass lines, and four to the floor drums, with bittersweet, melancholic choruses that you can't help but move your feet to—it’s music with both groove and heart.
Commenting on the single, the band say: “‘Pull/Push’ captures the tension of indecision—the feeling of being stuck between choices. Born from a dense synth texture, the song evolved into a hazy, warbled atmosphere balanced by a punchy drum beat. Joe expanded the initial idea’s structure, creating dynamic shifts between the dreamy, layered sound and the warm, natural vibe of the verses. It’s a track that thrives on contrast, reflecting the push and pull of uncertainty.”
The track follows on from previously-released single ‘Fever’, and is the latest look at the forthcoming new body of work, which explores themes of depression, anxiety, and the feelings of hopelessness often found in a life of chronic pain whilst still encapsulating their signature hopeful, nu-disco-driven sound.
Headlining the Settlement Stage at Greenman Festival 2024, as well as a stage at BBC 6 Music Festival Fringe in Cardiff, the quartet have become regulars at Focus Wales Festival. In 2024 they were awarded BBC Horizons funding which helped fund the new release.
They have received radio support from Deb Grant at BBC 6music, Adam Walton, Bethan Elfyn, and Molly Palmer at BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru, and recorded a live session for Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio Wales show earlier this year.
Live Dates:
23rd - 25th May 2025 - In It Together Festival - Margam
PARCS are:
Elly Sinnett - Vocals

Papa Jupe's T.C. - 'Jupe In The Flesh' EP Review
Papa Jupe’s T.C. fuse post-punk with a gritty surf-rock edge, blending sharp, surreal lyrics that dissect masculinity, politics, and power. The Cardiff-based six-piece was founded by frontman and lyricist Harry Willicombe, guitarist Sam Butcher, and bassist Alex Miller, with Ash Smith’s thunderous drumming, Tom Emlyn’s evocative synths, and Nashville-import Gemini Anderson’s vibrant vocals cementing their unique sound.
Known as the ‘Taurus Club,’ the band has earned acclaim and a hint of infamy in the Cardiff music scene for their riotous live performances. Their second EP, Jupe in the Flesh, is released today, Thursday, 23rd January, with lead singles “High Value Male” and “Milgi” already earning radio play across Europe and the US and a world premiere from Amy Lamé on BBC Radio 6 Music, who said, “I loved everything about this band”. The singles were featured in DIY Magazine’s coveted “Neu Playlist” and landed print press features in Radar Magazine and Cardiff Life. The EP pays tribute to their enigmatic spiritual leader, Papa Jupe, a bull-headed figure of mythic proportions. Jupe in the Flesh is a masterful creation and a definitive statement, skillfully produced by Alex Miller, who also serves as the band’s bassist.
Papa Jupe’s T.C. craft a masterful blend of social commentary and gritty, wryly confrontational lyrics, woven into a sonic tapestry of sleazy, uplifting post-punk and hypnotic surf guitar. The EP kicks off with a bang in High Value Male, a razor-sharp critique of toxic masculinity and the right-wing manosphere, targeting figures like Andrew Tate with biting wit. The track’s driving drums, infectious synth lines, and witty lyricism set the tone, while Gemini Anderson’s vibrant backing vocals inject an unexpected pop flair, adding a touch of fun to the song’s biting edge.
Milgi (Welsh for "Greyhound") is another standout, with an irresistibly catchy chorus and breezy yet commanding rhythm, blending jangly guitar riffs with a buoyant energy that makes it an instant earworm. Following on is Course We're Goin' Out, a rowdy anthem that has become a live favorite. The track ironically revels in the chaos of a messy Cardiff night out, perfectly capturing the debauchery of drinking culture with a cheeky wink. The accompanying music video takes this further—arguably the best music video of 2024—following the band on a wild night through Cardiff, seamlessly pulling locals into the fun.
Snake takes a darker turn as the grittiest and most intense track on the EP, with snarling riffs, heavy basslines, and a raw vocal delivery that cuts deep. This song is a personal favorite, striking a perfect balance between menace and catharsis, making it impossible not to feel its visceral power.
The EP closes with Join the Taurus, a triumphant and uplifting call to arms that offers hope and salvation amidst the chaos. Packed with soaring guitar lines, anthemic drums, vibrant synths, and an undeniable energy, it feels like a unifying rallying cry for listeners. The track builds to an electrifying finish with the powerful, repeated lyrics, “Join the Taurus,” leaving you invigorated, as if you've just been inducted into something greater than yourself.
This EP isn’t just a collection of songs—it’s a sonic odyssey that follows the band as they navigate themes of depravity, toxic masculinity, and modern chaos, delivering each track with raw emotion and exhilarating energy. The EP is set to drop on limited edition pink vinyl and will be celebrated with a sold-out release show at Cardiff’s iconic City Arms pub.
'Jupe in the Flesh' is an observation of the dystopian cultural wilderness of 21st-century Britain, a world without the forceful yet benevolent guiding hand of Papa Jupe himself. The Taurus Club have surveyed this landscape and found it lacking in spiritual guidance, presenting the righteous path of dedication to the light of Jupe as the one true answer and call. Bereft of our true calling, we are lost in the tainted gloom of the evils of late capitalism, like a blinded bull in a pitch-black china shop. It is up to you, listener, to answer their call - but you must remember that redemption comes to those who wait. The answer is here - you simply need to Join the Taurus. Praise be.
Papa Jupe’s T.C. have built a fierce reputation for electrifying live performances, getting audiences fully involved with their high-energy shows—think dancing, punching the air, and roaring along to tracks like Of Course We're Goin' Out. Their string of sold-out headline shows has left fans buzzing for more. In 2023, the band hit the road with Mercury Prize winners English Teacher on their UK Tour and took center stage as headliners at Rebel Fest.
After dropping a series of explosive standalone singles, the band unleashed their critically acclaimed debut EP, Wetmarket, in June 2023, cementing their place as one of the most exciting acts on the scene.
