the lords of gondolin in some fancy attire. i didn’t include tuor but my other drawing of him is here!

this took about two weeks, and 90% of the project was outfit design practice for myself as i struggle with it the most. it also laid the groundwork for the gondothlim in my mind for any future projects. every outfit is inspired by different cultures ranging from asia and africa to europe and the americas, and i am happy to go into more detail on each if interested.

i try not to treat every character i draw as static, meaning they change in appearance and personality depending on where they are in the story. i do this not only to push myself design-wise but also to force myself to think about the characters on a deeper level than just their face value. clothing is traditionally a key aspect of self-expression, so i wanted to (hopefully) represent that in each outfit and character here. that’s all, thank you for reading :)

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.

My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

bingewatching will never come close to bingereading. there is nothing like blocking out the entire Earth for ten hours to read a book in one sitting no food no water no shower no bra and emerging at the end with no idea what time it is or where you are, a dried-up prune that's sensitive to light and loud noises because you've been in your room in the dark reading by the glow of a single LED. it's like coming back after a three-month vacation in another dimension and now you have to go downstairs and make dinner. absolutely transcendental
