Starting over, though, is easier said than done. Theyโre gone. Itโs still hard to believe, and yetโฆ not all that difficult just the same. The possibility had always been there, and Remus had always been well aware of it. He just hadnโt expected it to happen so quickly.ย
True, the war is overย now, but at what cost ? Celebration is the furthest thing from Remusโ mind right now.ย

Iโd like to credit @holmesdepotโ for the idea of magic types, as it was their science of magic meta that inspired me to categorize magic types in terms of my own lore and worldbuilding development.
While all of Wizardkind possess similar magical abilities, there are three different types of ability. These abilities are often passed down genetically, though individuals may have different types than either of their parents. However, itโs common that a child of two parents with the same type will inherit that type.
The reason for the different types is not fully known in the Wizarding World, but it has roots in the differing ancestry of the earliest wizards (as discussed in my multiverse headcanon). The instructive type comes from Atani ancestry, while the instinctive and constructive types come from elven ancestry. This is part of the reason that instinctive and constructive magic types are much more rare than instructive, as there were far fewer early wizards with elven ancestry.
Each type of magic has its strengths and weaknesses, its advantages and its disadvantages. While no skills (unless they are inborn skills such as being a metamorphmagus or seer) are by default impossible to learn for any type, the different types will have advantages in certain areas and disadvantages in others, though a skilled wizard can overcome their disadvantages.
TYPE ONE: INSTRUCTIVE
The most common type of magic user is an instructive magic user. These wizards excel at using magic with certainty. As long as an instructive magic user uses the correct wand movement and incantation, their spell will most likely go off without a hitch, provided the wand itself doesnโt reject it.
Key Concept: Accuracy
Strengths: Charmwork, Transfiguration, Apparition
Weaknesses: Wandless and Nonverbal magic
Advantages: Accurate casting will almost without fail give the desired result. Relatively unaffected by emotion. Least affected by intent.
Disadvantages: Even slight mistakes in wand movement or incantation can cause spells to fail, though not always.
TYPE TWO: INTUITIVE
Intent is key for an intuitive magic user. Their strengths lie in swift reflexes and an innate connection to magic. Intuitive wizards show the greatest amount of accidental magic as children (and it often continues into adulthood), and are able to control it as well. Intuitive magic users probably use magic the most of all wizards, unconsciously in everyday life. They are most likely to become successful wandless and nonverbal magic users, as most do not even need to learn those abilities; they already have them. However, subjects in which slight variations in intent can cause spells to go awry often prove tricky for intuitive wizards.
Key Concept: Intent
Strengths: Duelling, Wandless and Nonverbal magic, Flying
Weaknesses: Transfiguration, Apparition
Advantages: Natural aptitude for reactive magic. Best at improvising, especially on short notice. Able to bend magic to their will on a whim.
Disadvantages: Most easily affected by their emotions. While intent can make the range of their abilities almost unlimited, distraction can be disastrous. Emotions can occasionally trigger an uncontrolled magical response.
TYPE THREE: CONSTRUCTIVE
The great innovators and spell-creators of wizarding history, ancient and modern, tended to be constructive magic-users. While there are plenty of similarities between these wizards and intuitive ones, constructive wizards are far less spontaneous. Instead of having an innate knowledge of how to use magic, constructive wizards know how to bend it. To use magic effectively, these wizards must combine intent and accuracy equally and control their magic. They are almost a blend between the other two typesโ while intuitive wizards excel at spontaneity, itโs not always easy to replicate their results. Constructive wizards can create new uses for magic that they can then replicate, either to improve a spell or create an entirely new one.
Key Concept: Control
Strengths: Potions, Transfiguration, Spell Creation
Weaknesses: Duelling, Flying
Advantages: Greatest control of their magic. Very balanced. They arenโt particularly compromised by emotion, but they donโt rely on extreme accuracy either.
Disadvantages: Weakest in terms of spontaneity. Must have a proper balance of accuracy and intent to cast correctly.

Since thereโs no official canon explanation for where magic comes from on Earth in HP, Iโm gonna go ahead and make my own explanation. Because I love my random worldbuilding headcanons that donโt exactly have any real bearing on anything but just exist to exist.
ANYHOW, Magic on earth obviously comes from Eรค. I talked more about the multiverse and the passageways between in this post so go ahead and take a look at that for further explanation, but a brief run-down is that the passages on Earth exist at prominent intersections of ley lines. In the Harry Potter universe, some of the earliest known wizards are Ancient Egyptians, Indians, and Greeks, which would line up with some of these intersections (One in Southeast Asia, one MAJOR one in Egypt, which was also at one point part of the Greek Empire). There are also other major intersections in North America, and alsoโฆ guess whereโฆ Scotland, pretty close to most speculations of the location of Hogwarts.
Magic on Earth comes from the fragments of the Music of the Ainur that seeped into Earthโs reality, traveling and connecting the passageways along the ley lines. As it travels across Earth, this mystical energy is warped a bit by Earthโs energy, creating some differences between the way magic works in either universe. ย
This inundation of Earth with fragments of the Music of the Ainur is what caused the introduction of plants with magical properties, and gave rise to many sorts of Magical Creatures that are similar to nonmagical creatures. Others (creatures and plants that exist in both worlds, for example), appeared as a result of seeds, and of the creatures themselves, crossing through the passageways.
T H E ย O R I G I N ย O F ย W I Z A R D K I N D
As for the origins of wizardkind, and why some humans are wizards and others are not, this is due to interbreeding between people from Eรค, who are fundamentally created by the Music, and who it flows through, and humans from Earth. This would create children who were capable of tapping into the residual energy of the Music that laced across and throughout Earth. This ability did not die out, and thus wizardkind as we know it continues to exist.
Important to note that most of this interbreeding was between early Men of Arda and humans. While Men do not have much innate magical ability in Middle Earth, they are still intrinsically connected to the Music, and it is possible for Men to become sorcerers. Thus, Men, or Atani/Edain, are slightly different species than the Humans of Earth, though in many measures there was little difference between them, and they did not often note any.
Because these mixed families tended to settle and live together not too far from the passageways and travel was limited in the ancient world, the distinction between wizardkind and non-magical people became more and more prevalent. Once many of the passageways became inaccessible, the humans of earth and the Atani of Eรค no longer interbred, and the worlds were largely separated. Thus, the evolution of both beings and creatures on earth and Magic itself, differed from that of Eรค, and the two worlds became much different.
D I F F E R E N T ย M A G I C S
Time as a whole moves much more slowly in Eรค, which contributes to the rapid development, evolution, and innovation on Earth. This shift in the motions of time-space is also how the traces of Music that cause Magic on Earth became warped to become more external, while mystic powers in Eรค remain much more innate, even to the race of Men, well into the Third Age.
The major difference is that Magic, over time, went from extremely innate to becoming a force that must be manipulated. Magic inundated many ancient cultures, not only within people, but in the surrounding lands. Mystical phenomena were far more common-place and everyday. Wands were almost completely unheard of, with ancient wizards able to use and control magic easily without them.
Because of the discrepancy in the motion of time, many of the passageways became narrowed, or choked off, allowing less of a flow. This evolution caused magic to be much less innate, and far less predictable when it was so. Now, most wizards use wands, because the connection of the wand materials to Magic itself causes magical ability to be more easily-controlled, and wandless magic can be learned later. This isnโt always the case, thoughโit is possible to be taught wandless magic from childhood.
Magic on earth is much more chaotic and unstable than the Music is within Eรค. This is because most of the passageways were formed in places where Melkorโs powers were most at use. This is why most uses of โmagicโ within Eรค, aside from the power of the Ainur, are rather passive, unless they are dark forms of magic. Magic on earth has a disproportionate amount of the chaotic, unstable power of Melkorโs influence. This is also why the Dark Arts often seem more powerful. This instability of Magic can also have a mutating effectโthis is why there are so many more fantastic beasts on Earth than within Eรค, and why conditions such as lycanthropy and blood malediction, as well as metamorphmagi, exist on Earth, but not within Eรค. This evolution also had a neutralizing effect, magic on earth shifting from darker to more neutral as time went on.
T R A V E L L E R S ย B E T W E E N ย W O R L D S
Though most humans, whether Muggle or Wizard, would die shortly after entering Middle Earth due to the locations and surroundings of passageways, it is still possible to survive. If one does survive, a Muggle will feel little effectโthey wonโt be able to perform magic, because they have little to no connection to it. However, it is likely that a Squib could gain some magical ability, though not much. A wizard, however, will gain much power, in particular the ability to effortlessly perform wandless spells. Wands could still be used in Eรค, but they are likely to be overloaded, and could potentially shatter. Most spells will likely function differently, so a wizard should be careful while using magic in Middle Earth until theyโve adapted to the different flow. It is also unwise to apparate within Middle Earth, as that will almost certainly result in splinching.
For those that travel from Eรค to Earth, Atani will feel little additional effects. Elves and Maiar, however, will become significantly weaker, because they are intrinsically tied to the Music, and the fact that the Music is fainter and functions differently on Earth can cause problems.
The reason for these differences is that, in Eรค, the Music flows through and around everything in a rather aimless patternโthe entire world is basically composed of Magic. On Earth, magic travels along ley lines in a fixed pattern. Thus, magic in Eรค is of an amorphous structure, while magic on Earth is of a crystalline structure. This is what causes particular problems with apparitionโwizards on earth apparate along these lines of magic. In Eรค, there are no lines, and apparition of a physical body almost always results in fatal splinching.
Travelling between worlds for anyone causes a physical adjustment, a sort of magical jet lag. This could have symptoms similar to motion sickness and jet lag, and can cause emotional upset as well as magical upset. ย
Wizards who travel to and from Middle Earth may end up getting a sort of high from the sheer amount of magic within Middle Earth, which can cause symptoms sort of like a withdrawal if they remain on earth, thus, it is wise to be very careful about these travels.

Remus takes his potion in time, and doesnโt attack the others on Hogwarts grounds. Despite having some trepidation after transforming in front of some of his students, Remus doesnโt resign-- he hadnโt been dangerous-- and returns to teaching the following year.ย
This takes place in a universe where the DADA position isnโt cursed.

By the time he reaches his early teens, the burden he is on his parents is too obvious for him to ignore. One day, while his parents are out, he leaves home, heading alone into the world with only a limited knowledge of magic and the world itself.

James and Lily are dead, but Remus and Sirius are still around, and theyโre going to make sure that Harry Potter grows up with all of the love and support he needs. They might not make the best parents, considering theyโre still just a couple of kids fresh out of school, but theyโre going to figure it out somehow.
Itโs important to note that in this verse, Remus knew that Sirius was not the secret-keeper, and Sirius was not convicted of the crime.ย

After surviving not one, but two wars, Remus finally has a chance to start anew. This time, though, he wonโt be alone. Though his old friends might be gone, heโs made new ones among the members of the Order of the Phoenix, and looks forward to a brighter, less-lonely world in the future.
All threads where Remus survives the second war take place in this verse. He may or may not have married Tonks, it just depends on the thread. By default, shipping will be left open.
