I'm not kidding when I say to just start by googling it. Literally just google every main character, look at their info, and then join a Vat7k community on tumblr. I suggest checking out fics on ao3, wattpad, or fan fiction.net. Simple, easy. Read the basic stories first, seven or eight chapter with not other spin offs and go from there. Anyways it isn't too hard to get into the fandom. Here are the characters:

Varian (18): you know him, you love him, our little alchemist. In Vat7k he goes out on an adventure to prove himself and find who he is when he finds his mothers old journal.

Nuru (16): the star princess who's kingdom is being destroyed by meteor showers. She joins Yong and Varian to try and find a cure for these terrifying events from the Eternal Library. Master of swordsmanship and astronomy, she is very smart, cunning, and loyal. Albeit kinda crazy and has no idea what's beyond her broken kingdom

Yong (12-13): a young Asian boy who also embarks with Varian to find himself and prove himself to his family. He grew up as the middle child in a large family who specializes in fireworks and pyrotechnics. He is silly, annoying sometimes, and overall generous.

Hugo (19-20): grew up as an orphan in Ingvarr on the streets. He became an excellent thief and pickpocket before he was arrested and sent to an orphanage. Donella adopted him and trained him in hand to hand combat and mechanics. (In my au he has a robotic arm, shoulder and side because he got run over by a chariot) has a small robotic mouse named Olivia. At first he joined Team Radical to spy for Donnie and turn against them in the end.

Donella (38?): I don't know much about this character or Ulla and Cyrus, but I'll try. Her and Ulla were great friends and travel buddies, always going on adventures before Ulla settled down with Quirin. She runs a Mafia and has a whole gang of thieves trying to find the Library, including Hugo.

Ulla (38-42?): Ulla is Varian's mother. She was friends with Donella before settling down with Quirin. She had Varian and then tried to reconnect with Donella to find the Library but it ended up in a huge fight where she gave Donella some scars and got trapped in the Library. It is still uncertain and up for opinion whether she or Donella is the bad guy, or if they're both in the wrong.

Cyrus (25-27): He is Hugo's fellow conman on most jobs and Donella's right hand man. (Also called big emo babysitter, of Hugo of course.)

Amber (16-17): from the earth kingdom area. Helps Team Radical on their journey and let's them stay on her family's farm for a few days. They meet multiple times during the journey and her and Nuru become friends with more feelings.
